Chapter 2: The Terrible Truth

Date: Saturday 22nd June 2013

Time: 10:22pm

Location: White's Residence, Carlin Street, Chamberlain, Maine

The police car slowly pulled up, with its emergency lights flashing brightly, parking outside the White's Residence, on Carlin Street, where 2 police officers got out of the car, one who had his name: King on his name badge of his uniform, the other with the name: Pierce on her name on her name badge of her uniform too, who had been at the school, tending to the incident, which had claimed the life of Carrie White, and now had been sent by Sheriff Otis Doyle, with the sad job of telling her mother of her daughter's death, as they walked up the small stairs, towards the front door, and knocked on the door… but as they knocked on the door, the door slowly creaked open by itself…

"Hello? Mrs. White? Anyone home?" Officer King called out, but strangely, no reply.

As the 2 officers entered the house peacefully but cautiously, they suddenly noticed a strange closet door beneath the stairs… but the door had been ripped open, with blood stains on where the wood had been torn open… this shocked the officers… They looked through the ripped door, to see that it was a prayer closet, but they also noticed the wielded lock on the door…

"Dispatch, could you send backup to the White's residence on Carlin Street? There's some suspicious activity going on…" Officer King radioed the police station, asking cautiously for backup.

"Copy that, backup should be with you in 5 minutes." A woman's voice replied over the radio.

"Thanks." Officer King radioed back.

Before King & Pierce could inspect the closet door any further, they heard a thump coming from upstairs. Believing it was Margaret, as well as the eerie atmosphere they were in, they readied themselves with their Tasers, before slowly and cautiously making their was up the stair way…

"Mrs. White? Hello?" Officer Pierce called, as she and King slowly and cautiously continued up the stairs.

As the police officers got up the stairs, they inspected the bedrooms… but when they inspected Carrie's bedroom, the room gave them another eerie feeling, not just about the rooms, but the entire house in general, and the Fact that Margaret wasn't showing up, made the officers very suspicious of this woman… Not to mention, they hadn't forgotten the incident when the state battled Margaret when she tried to home-school Carrie while she was very young, and lost the battle…

Suddenly, another sound was heard behind the officers, as they almost instantly sprung up, and armed themselves with their to see Margaret standing in the doorway, staring blankly at them…

"Mrs. White? Margaret?" Officer King asked, pointing his taser at Margaret, but she showed no fear, just a blank stare…

"Where is my daughter?" Margaret asked blankly.

"We're very sorry to tell you this, Margaret… But your daughter, Carrie, had sadly been killed in an incident at her prom…" Officer Pierce nervously, but straight fully told Margaret the bad news…

The shock from the worlds that came from Pierce, suddenly fired through Margaret like a bullet, as Margaret was lost for words in shock, before a metal clank be heard, as the officers saw a large kitchen knife fall and hit the floor, from Margaret's right hand, landing next to her foot, before she collapsed to her knees, crying hysterically… from seeing this, the officers knew something wasn't right mentally with this woman… and the suspension, that she may have had intent on harming or killing her daughter… or worse, this could have been going on for god knows how long…Pierce kept her taser armed, while king quickly kicked the knife away, before arresting her…

"Margaret White, you are under arrest on suspicion of intent to cause child abuse, you have right to remain silent, anything you do say will held against you in a court of law, and you have the right to an attorney, and if you can't afford one, one will be provided for you by the choose to answer without an attorney, you will have the right to stop answering at any time…" Officer King said the Miranda Rights, but was almost drowned out by the hysterical crying of Margaret, as he managed to get her arms behind her back in cuffs, before he and Pierce got the crazy woman on her feet, took her downstairs, and out of the house, to where their back up had arrived…

Among the officer's backup was Sheriff Doyle, who needed to know what had been going on. As King & Pierce came out, with the hysterical and crazy Margaret, before they placed into one of the cars…

"I take it Mrs. White didn't take the news of her daughter's death well…" Doyle said with concern.

"We have belief and concern that Margaret White is Mentally I'll, and has had intent to harm or kill her late daughter for a very long time, the house doesn't look suitable to raise a child, there's a prayer closet under the stairs, with a wielded door lock on the outside, and ripped door with blood stains… she also dropped a large kitchen knife, as soon as we told her the sad news of her daughter's death…" Officer Pierce explained…

Sheriff Doyle gave a horrified look, as looked at the officers in shock, then towards Margaret, who was still crying hysterically, before he told two other officers to investigate the house immediately, while ordering some other officers to cordon off the house, and tell any residence in the area to get back indoors, before he & another officer got into the car containing Margaret, and took her down to the station for questioning… While driving to the station, Sheriff Doyle radioed the station, to provide a separate area and cell for Margaret, seeing as he how believed she was mentally I'll and possibly very dangerous, not to mention with all the prom arrests of Carrie's classmates/bullies…

(Meanwhile…)

Sue, Tommy, Miss Desjardin & Principal Morton, were at Sue's house, with 2 other officers, who drove them all there, to bring Sue home, as well as inform her family of Carrie's death, as well as the evidence that had been handed in or collected regarding the incident. Once upon hearing what had happened, Sue's & Tommy's families were devastated to learn of Carrie's death, but were also very angry, not with Sue & Tommy, despite Sue being involved with Chris's recording of Carrie's gym class incident, but with Chris and her friends, for causing such a horrid act…

"I can't honestly believe Chris would do such a cruel & horrible thing!" Eleanor Snell said sternly, as she comforted her grieving elder daughter, along with husband: Edward, & her youngest daughter: Sierra, while Tommy was also grieving still, as he was being comforted by his mother: Penelope Ross, his father: William, and his younger brother: Timothy.

"Don't worry Mrs. Snell, Chris Hargensen and all those who were likely involved are down at the station being questioned and detained until all the evidence we've collected from your daughter, as well as what we confiscated from the girls during their arrests…" One of the officers said reassuringly…

"I dread to think how Margaret is gonna take it, when she learns of Carrie's death…" Penelope said with concern and sorrow.

Both Sue's & Tommy's families had never liked Margaret White, and had even had uneasy feelings about her, and even when they were near her… even before Margaret's husband & Carrie's father: Ralph White, had died in a grizzly construction accident in 1995, not long before Carrie was even born, she seemed rather strange among everyone on Chamberlain…

Soon, the second officer, who had been out in the car listening on the radio, came walking in, to inform his colleague and the grieving families of what had happened with Margaret White, as he came in and sat down…

"We've just received word from Sheriff Doyle regarding Margaret White: Sheriff Doyle and several officers have arrested Margaret…" The officer said.

"Arrested?! Why? Did she not take the news about Carrie well?" Principal Morton asked in shock.

"I'm afraid from what I've heard, it's worse than that… When officers King and Pierce arrived at the White's residence on Carlin Street, they found the door unlocked… when they entered the property, they found a Prayer closet under the stairs, with a wooden door with a bolt lock on the outside, that had been ripped open by hand, with blood stains on where it was ripped open… they then went upstairs after heading movement noises, but when investigating the bedrooms, they found Margaret… but when they broke the news to her about her daughter's death, she dropped a large kitchen knife that was secretly holding, while crying like an asylum patient, that's when they arrested her… But judging by what the officers found within the house, as well as having ongoing investigations, they have a very strong feeling… That Margaret may have been abusing Carrie… how long, it's hard to tell… but it feels like it may have been going on for a very long time…" The officer explained, whose words made everyone in the room feel more and more mortified with each word…

Sue, Tommy, Miss Desjardin & Principal Morton, couldn't believe what they had all just been told, as well as how much they never realized the truth about Margaret White… but it made sense now… The ways Carrie was always shy, and an easy target of bullying… The ways Margaret always acted and spoke in very fanatically about her Catholic religion… everyone could hardly believe nor understand they never even thought of it… But worst of all, it was now it was too late to save Carrie from her psychotic mother, all thanks to Chris & her friends, and even they had no idea of what Margaret was really like behind closed doors… Everyone now looked down in shame upon themselves, shedding tears, knowing nothing could be done to save Carrie, nor change all that happened right under their noses… all that could be done now, was to hopefully give Carrie a peaceful send off, as Principal Morton had called the local church, to decide & prepare for Carrie's funeral…

(Meanwhile, down at the police station…)

Chris Hargensen, Billy Nolan, Tina Blake, Jackie Talbot, Kenny Garson, Nicki & Lizzy Watson, Heather Shyres, Rachel Spies, Anissa Chen, Jessica Upshaw, and all those who were arrested at the prom, were all sitting apart, in different seats, looking down in silence & shame… all except Chris, who had an angry look on her face of betrayal… Carrie's death wasn't part of the prank, nor was Sue telling the police everything that was planned and all who was involved, resulting in them all getting arrested… during when each of them were questioned and interviewed to determine what exactly happened, leading up to Carrie's unfortunate death, most of them all about what Chris had done during gym class, as well as what she, Billy, Jackie and Kenny had done as preparation of the prank, even Tina confessed she had the video Chris had recorded on her phone regarding Carrie's Gym Class Meltdown on her laptop, which was found and was being analyzed… All their families had been contacted of what had happened at the Prom, as well as all their children's possible involvements, in which some of them were devastated, and disappointed with them, while others, including Chris's dad: John Hargensen, were furious with them… Some of the families were being allowed to take their children home, while others were still being detained for the highest beliefs of their involvement, regarding all information and evidence that was being obtained…

"How could you be so foolish Chris, I didn't bring you up just so you could go and commit crime, and always believe you were untouchable!" John said sternly.

"Maybe if you showed more concern for me, instead of your stupid job and reputation, I wouldn't be like this!" Chris spewed back angrily.

"Don't you even think that this is all my fault, you weren't even supposed to be at the Prom!" John growled in anger.

"Yeah, because again, you never did or gave enough for us, no wonder Mom isn't with us anymore!" Chris spat back again like a spoiled child having a tantrum.

Before John could really give his spoiled daughter so real lessons in manners, his attention was interrupted and diverted by the arrival of Sheriff Doyle and another officer, bringing in Margaret White, this made all arrested at the prom and their families very confused and very uneasy… when Margaret noticed Chris, and gave her menacingly blank look…

"You killed my daughter… you Godless Devil Spawn…" Margaret whispered blankly, knowing Chris was Carrie's main killer, before being carried on towards the interview room for questioning…
