Chapter 5
"Break Time #1"
"I-I don't know what you are insinuating, Ashido, but I can tell you that Midoriya and myself are nothing more than classmates and acquaintances." Momo sighed heavily before she took a bite out of the very rich and thick burger from the buffet of food and snacks provided by their 'host as she and the other girls were sitting down at a table a reasonable distance away from the boys of their class, who were all talking animatedly with one another about what had happened so far in the movie.
"Cooommmme on, Yaomomo! You saw what I saw!" The pink-skinned girl slammed the table, nearly spilling her bubble tea as she squinted her eyes at the heiress, "Midori literally swooped in and saved your other self like a knight in shining armor!"
"I think you mean 'as' a knight in shining armor, kero." Tsu said as she happily munched some of the mochi she had traded Ochako for a few of her own treats. But they just met in the story, Mina; it doesn't mean that she's going to fall head over heels for Izuku instantly."
"Yeah, that would be really bad storytelling." Jiro said, a French fry between her lips before she brought it into her mouth, "If it is, it sounds like a bad setup for one of those really awful harem stories."
"Maybe there will be a time skip?" Toru suggested as she brought the soft and sweet strawberry shortcake to her lips and squealed in delight from the taste.
"Could be, but again, kinda doubt it." Jiro shrugged as she shipped on her soda straw, "At least we can establish that the main romantic interest will be Yaomomo."
Momo gasped at the implication, a little shocked that her best friend would be adding fuel to Mina's shipping obsession. " I sincerely doubt that! P-Plus Tokage was there, too!"
"Oh sure…" the punk rocker said as she took another sip, her eyes staring down at the table. She continued to speak in a nonchalant manner she was known for, "But it wasn't her heartbeat that was beside me that seemed to speed up after being saved…"
"KYOKA!" the heiress shrieked, a look of betrayal on her face. The loudly named rocker snickered while Mina and Toru squealed in delight. As the girls continued to tease Momo, Tsuyu slowly looked over to Ochako, who had been silent the entire time, nibbling on a mochi while looking down a darkened hallway.
"Ochako? Kero, are you alright?"
"Hmm?" The gravity girl turned back to her best friend, who was staring blankly back at her. "O-Oh, sorry. Did you say something, Tsuyu?"
"I asked if you're alright, kero." She took a sip of her green tea, and the frog-like girl continued, "But clearly, you're worried about Midoriya."
"I-I…" Ochako began to sputter, her cheeks blushing more than usual before she gently sighed, "...Maybe… B-but w-who wouldn't be… a-after what we found out." Quickly stuffing her mouth with the rest of the mochi she had been eating slowly, what she had said was noticed by the other girls, which quickly soured the mood.
Thankfully, Momo was a little relieved to be taken out of the crosshairs of the class gossip.
"I want to say I can't believe that Bakugo would say something so stupid… but, given how he normally is and how he was at the beginning of the year." Mina grumbled as she crossed her arms over her chest, her usual cheer disposition gone as she huffed, "And I'm so stupid for not seeing the asshole for what he is, a dumb ass bully."
"We all knew he had a terrible personality, Ashido…" Momo sighed gently, "But we, too, are at fault for not really doing anything about it."
"Do you think they will toss his ass out of UA?" Kyoka asked those around the table, twirling an ear jack around her finger, "I mean, with just how unpleasant the guy is already, this would surely be enough to kick him to the curb."
Ochako sighed gently, getting the girl's attention back on her. "De-Midoriya wouldn't want that, though. He'd try to convince the staff to keep him in UA."
"Considering how many times he threatened to "kill" us at the beginning of the year and yet nothing's been done but Aizawa from just slapping him on the wrist with just telling him to 'grow up', I can see Midori doing that too." Toru grumbled, gently now resting her head on the table after having finished her snack.
"And I don't want to be devil's advocate, but, kero, what Bakugo said in the past can't be held against him. Plus, he was already targeted by villains in an attempt to recruit him, thinking he was similar to them." Tsuyu spoke up, her finger on her chin, and looking up at the ceiling, ignoring the mutter coming from Mina that Bakugo does act like a villain, "At best, they would put him into General Studies, make him earn his way back into the Hero Course."
"Still too good for him if you ask me." Kyoka snarled, "You can't say shit like that and still get away with it."
"With everything coming to light, we can only wait and see, sadly, but with the staff knowing more about Midoriya's and Bakugo's personal history, I have a feeling at least the Principal will do what is necessary." Momo said with an affirmative nod before finishing her burger, "All we can do is support Midoriya the best we can."
"Oh, I'm sure someone will be 'supporting' him well." Mina wiggled her eyebrows, earning a returned frown and glare at the alien girl, which only made Mina giggle.
"There is also something I've been meaning to ask, Ochako." Toru said as she placed her utensils on her now empty plate, "But how come you stopped calling Midori by his hero name?"
"Yes, I have been curious about that myself," Momo said as she leaned a little onto the table, "Normally, you would call him 'Deku' instead of always trying to say his last name, but now that you're making an effort to do so, it's been very noticeable."
Ochako shifted in her seat, the five sets of eyes staring at her and eager to hear her reason for such a drastic change. While she looked about to see if she could distract them, after a few moments, the gravity girl sighed and turned her gaze downward. "I-it was during the first part we watched… when he was about to…"
All the women around her suddenly perked up, the realization of what Ochako was referring to. And while the still somewhat upset girl was fidgeting in her chair, trying to express her feelings as to why she suddenly stopped calling him by the nickname she had been going by since the beginning of the school year, Ochako jolted when she felt several arms and bodies were pressed against her own, looking up to see the practically all of the girls hugging her, causing her cheeks to redden harshly and stammering to try and ask what they were doing.
"It's okay, Kero. We get it." Tsuyu spoke up, ending Ochako's stammer as her best friend looked at the frog girl's blank stare. "When he was about to jump and called himself a 'Deku' beforehand… I can understand why you don't want to call him that anymore."
"But it means something different now, doesn't it? At least with our Midori." Mina stated, pulling herself away a little from the hug to smile gently at her friend, "He even made it his hero name, so why not just ask him if you can keep calling him 'Deku' when he gets back? I'm sure he even noticed you were not calling him by it anymore."
"M-Maybe…" Ochako squirmed in the hug, still blushing.
"Plus, you seemed fairly pleased when he chose it as his hero name, if I recall." The shockingly smug-sounding tone came from Momo, who wasn't part of the hugging pile and had sipped on some of her tea.
While Ochako's blush deepened, she squeaked, which was a sort of 'confirmation' for Toru and Mina as the two started to badger her about it. All the while, Kyoka looked towards Momo with some shock on her face, utterly surprised to see her closest friend of the group just toss Ochako to the wolves.
Izuku sighed as he was making his way towards the area where the rest of his friends were, the talk with the teaching staff having gone… well… about as he expected. Admittedly, talking about his past before meeting All Might was challenging, to say the least, even more so when he had to try and convince the former number one to not go after any of his former teachers.
What had been productive was finally revealing the nature of his quirk to Mr. Aizawa, something that, honestly, he should have done much sooner. Granted, he had to try to hold his homeroom teacher back from beating up his mentor about being kept in the dark about his quirk for so long. Once Aizawa had calmed down enough, Izuku was the first one to apologize to his teacher for all the cloak and dagger, but then something happened that Izuku would swear to his grave to never tell a soul.
Aizawa bowed and apologized to him as well.
Not just for the lack of actually teaching Midoriya and helping him learn his quirk correctly outside of just telling him to 'do better', but also not realizing there was more to his and Bakugo's history than just a mere 'rivalry' that he thought it was.
While there was much more to discuss, the three UA staff members only had so much time. They still needed to speak with the aforementioned blonde bomber before the next set of viewings, and admittedly, Izuku was getting a little hungry.
Didn't help that his stomach had growled loudly to give himself away.
Just as he turned the corner and while he could hear some of his classmates chattering loudly down the hall, something else caught his attention and curiosity within the viewing room. Slowly making his way closer to the slightly ajar door, Izuku's eyes widened at what he was currently seeing.
"Totally! You were a little off about my current limits for my acid viscosity, but you nearly got everything else right!" Mina smiled at him, moving closer and holding the book between them. Izuku froze as he could feel her body press up against his own, doing his best not to faint from the sudden contact or do anything that would be seen as 'untoward'.
As Mina held the book between them, she did take stock of just how built he was underneath his shirt, confirming what Kirishima had told her the previous night, but she was too focused on just how intelligent Izuku was! A mere two days since they started school, and he already figured out her quirk?! That was insane!
Admittedly, she was a little put off initially, but that quickly washed away the more she read. And this wasn't even a completed entry?
As if on cue and unbeknown to the pair of teenagers, Inko had walked in while looking through her purse, her voice calling out, "Izuku, I'm home! Sorry I couldn't be here when you got home, but Mitsuki had asked for help with a … rec… i…pe…"
Inko's eyes were emotionless, seeing her baby boy with a rather attractive young woman cuddling close to one another while looking at one of his notebooks. While the girl had looked up with her exotic eyes in slight surprise, Izuku's were wide open, and his irises were pinpricks, like a deer caught in headlights, with his face growing paler as he looked at his mother.
"...don't mind me, kids, you two keep having fun, and I'll be back later!"
"MOM!"
Grim chuckled as he continued to work on a tablet, clearly just listening to what was being shown on screen. Sighing gently to himself, he grumbled, "I really hate the sports festival…"
"How come-" "GAH!"
Grim suddenly shouted, tossing the tablet into the air as the movie on the screen paused, the robbed figure quickly spinning out of his chair and looking at the just as startled teenager behind him with his widened emerald eyes, "Geezus, kiddo… don't sneak up on people like that!"
"I-I-I'm sorry!" Izuku began to apologize and bowed a few times, much to Grim's sighing.
"It's fine, Izuku… geezus, now I know what it's like when I sneak up on people by accident." The man sighed heavily as he noticed Izuku staring up at the screen before him, a smug smirk underneath the darkness of the robe forming as he leaned in. "Curious about this one?"
"W-Wha?" Izuku suddenly shook his head as he came out of his thoughts, blushing a little, "U-Um… sure, if you don't mind? A-And why is Ashido in my apartment?"
"No problemo, this story is one where you inherit the mystical powers of the universe's most powerful man." Grim said with a hand raised towards the screen and rotating it like one would a knob on a machine, began to 'rewind' the screen to show another version of himself, holding a sword high into the air, "To use these powers, you have to hold up the magic sword you are seeing and say the magic words!"
Izuku's eyes began to sparkle in amazement. He quickly pulled out the notebook from before and began to jot down on another page, "What's the title of this one called?"
"Heh, it's called "Magic Swords and Embarrassment Don't Mix." Grim chuckled as he looked at the boy's confusion. "You'll see why in a second."
Unbeknownst to the pair, a set of golden eyes were watching from the slightly ajar door of the theater, her pink hand gently grasping onto the edge of the door as she watched both Grim and Midorii speak to one another.
Mina had excused herself to the bathroom to wash up from their little snack break and usual grilling/teasing of Uraraka and had just been on her way back to the main eating area where the rest of her class was when she heard the surprised shout coming from the theater, only to see the robed figure and Izuku were talking about something that she could barely hear.
The pink-skinned teenager watched what transpired on the giant screen and between the pair, and as she did so, her pink cheeks soon started to blush a deep violet the more she watched and heard.
"BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!"
The voice of the other Midoriya on screen had shouted out as Izuku watched with amazement as a bolt of lightning struck the sword. Only for the teenager to begin to sputter and blush hard when he saw his counterpart's outfit, "W-What the heck is that?!"
"Hmm? Oh, I guess you could call it his 'inner hero' outfit?" Grim shrugged, ignoring the horrified look on Izuku's face, "To be fair, the chest piece and gauntlets further enhance his strength, which he honestly doesn't need, considering that even though he could throw moon-sized objects with ease… but aesthetics, you know?"
The silence coming from the younger person beside him made Grim sigh heavily, shaking his head as he could see that by giving away even the slightest tidbit of how strong those 'secret fabulous powers' were to the hero nerd, the boy's mind was racing with the possibilities. Grim moved his hand back up and twisted his wrist towards the scene where, once again, back to the still image of a slightly older Izuku and Mina, being very close to one another and looking through one of his hero journals. This had knocked the teenager out of his mutterings, and he blushed heavily once more, but only until the grunt of Grim clearing his throat was heard and brought his attention back to him, "Now, you were also asking about why Miss Ashido was in your apartment?"
The silent but gentle nod from the boy was all the answer Grim had gotten, given the fact the boy didn't trust his voice at the moment, "Well, some context, you were on your way home from being held back to redo the assessment test on the second day when you got the subway terminal, you found Miss Ashido waiting for a train as well, mind you this was a few hours after classes."
Izuku turned his back towards the screen, now more curious than anything, while Grim continued to explain, "Turns out, the trains were delayed due to a villain attack knocking out the tracks, so no trains were coming that way to Chiba for a good amount of time. Initially, the other you was going to wait with her at the station until her father came to pick her up, but considering that this is also early spring and he wasn't going to be there for another few hours, and with your apartment close by…" Grim let his words hang in the air for Izuku to work out, the blush returning only slightly to the boy's cheeks.
"Look, if the same situation happened to you, would you seriously just wait out at that station? Or would you take her someplace you know was a little more safe and warm? Oh sure, you two could have simply gone to a coffee shop close by, but then her father would have to deal with the traffic to get there, unlike a small, mostly quiet street to an apartment complex." Grim crossed his arms over his chest, his head tilted to the side gently, "Plus the other you would make sure that everything was kosher with her if she wouldn't mind waiting at your apartment because, let's face it, kid, you with ulterior motives is like Bakugo and quiet, they just don't happen."
While the jab at the blonde had made Izuku furrow his brow at the robed man from the doorway, Mina had to bite her tongue from snickering at the little insult towards her classmate.
"Plus, it helps set up the relationship between you two, and in all honesty, allowing you both to grow into something… well, more than 'friends,' let's just say. Though unlike in 'Bearer of the Light', it's just you and her that end up together."
Both students started to blush at that, with Mina being more curious about what the robed figure had meant about who Midori ended up with in the story they were watching, considering obviously it would be Midori and Yoamomo, given the context already in the story. But what had Grim meant about her and the still-blushing green-haired boy beside him?
Izuku, on the other hand, was turning redder than ever, his mind working overtime as to the implications as he slowly looked up to Grim, stuttering out, "P-Please don't make me turn out to be like Mineta…"
The sudden laughter caught both students' attention, with Grim almost falling over from the sheer audacity of the request, "Oh, far from it, kiddo. You're not getting a harem if that's what you're worried about. But, I'll leave what will happen as a surprise since it will be explained better when the topic shows up in the story." Grim began to calm down as he spoke, a finger moving into the darkness of the hood to wipe away a tear from his unseen eyes. Once the robed man collected himself, clearing his throat once again and standing straight, "Plus, we don't have much time left until we start showing the next chapter of the story, and you need to explain a certain something to your classmates, do you not?"
The realization suddenly made Izuku go wide-eyed. He instantly turned on his heel and legged it outside of the theater doors, missing Mina, who had moved away from the door and pressed herself against the wall to avoid being caught eavesdropping. The pink-skinned student sighed gently as she could hear Grim begin to talk to himself, moving close to the still slightly ajar door, peeking in once again to listen and watch the man 'work'.
"Now, that should give me about another twenty or so minutes to go over the next few chapters, plus I still need to bring one more guest here… though... Hmm…" The hooded figure brought his hand up to his chin, holding it there for a few moments before then raising his hands up towards the screen, twisting the 'invisible knobs' to a particular scene that made Mina's eyes go wide as the scenes moved forward, "I should probably make sure the explanation for how the relationship works is made perfectly clear… rather not have the kid worry, or the others misinterpret anything."
As the scene started again, Mina gasped gently as she watched what was playing, committing to memory what a certain frog girl was explaining to both her other self and the punk rocker of their class, all within the dorm's laundry room.
From that point on, a 'seed' planted itself firmly into Mina Ashido's mind, which would continue to grow throughout this experience.
"Now, while I'd love to hear the full story regarding your past with Midoriya from your point of view, Mr. Bakugo, sadly, we are short on time, and honestly, this place isn't the best to discuss such matters without some way to look at evidence and record depositions." Nezu had begun to speak, his little paws in front of him as his beady eyes were staring at the blonde student, who was leaning back in the chair he was in with his arms crossed over his chest, looking away and with his usual 'angered' expression on his face.
Aizawa and Toshinori were standing at either side of their student, curious as to what Bakugo would say, but given their interactions with the boy during their class time, as well as the sessions Toshi would have with him when trying to figure out the best ways to improve his successor's control over his quirk, they would admit that Bakugo wasn't the most co-operative most of the time, outside of the hero training classes, but even then, it was mainly just the blonde barking out orders and everything being strongarmed into following him, for good or ill, outside of Todoroki and Yaoyorozu, or at least most of the time when considering the heiress.
"That being said if you would kinda explain-"
"I fucking did it."
Nezu and everyone paused to look at the blonde teenager, who was now looking away and grumbling something inaudible, "I fucking told the nerd to jump off the roof, alright? No point in trying to hide it. And no, I don't know why I did. Hell, I don't think I even meant it."
"Then why say it at all, Young Bakugo?" Toshinori asked, still reeling from the fact that one of their top hero students would do such a horrendous thing.
"Spur of the moment? Plus, I know Deku wouldn't fucking do it."
"How can you be so sure of that?" Aizawa soon spoke, his eyes glaring hard at one of his current students. We just witnessed a version of Midoriya who was about to attempt to end his own life, only to be literally stopped by a divine being."
Bakugo was quiet then, not looking at anyone in particular as if he was silently contemplating something. However, the heavy sigh coming from Nezu caught everyone's attention.
"Well, as much as I would like to discuss this further in greater detail, I think we have what we need for now, Mr. Bakugo." The principal said with a cold gaze leveled on the boy, who flinched slightly from the look he was being given, "While it is obvious we cannot punish you for past actions previous to your attendance to UA, we have no way of verifying outside of both of your and Mr. Midoriya's admittance. However, given your actions and general attitude while you have been within my school's walls…"
Nezu slowly stood up from his chair, his arms behind his back and looking down upon the teenager, "Katsuki Bakugo, as of right now, your place in the UA hero course is null and void, whether or not you have a place at UA at all won't be decided until we go back. You are dismissed."
The blonde student was shocked, to say the least, his mouth agape before he snarled and pushed himself out of the chair, beginning to head towards the door in a furious rage.
"Mr. Bakugo."
The principal's voice caught the boy's attention once more, the temperature of the room now ice cold as Bakugo could feel an overwhelming sense of dread coming from the small animal, "You have no one to blame but yourself for all this, had you actually taken the time to reflect on your actions and realize how 'unheroic' your past actions have been since attending my school."
The door slamming was the only answer Nezu got before he sat himself back down, sighing gently while the two teachers seemed to deflate slightly. "Well, that could have gone better."
"Indeed, but like I said, we cannot punish him for something he did prior to coming to UA, let alone all the paperwork and investigating we will need to do when we get back, considering how his previous schools fabricated his student record." Nezu leaned back into the chair, his paws resting on his stomach, "And we cannot at least attempt to try and help the boy be a better person while he is under our care; we also need to consider Midoriya's feelings in all this and be cautious as we move forward."
It was Aizawa's turn to sigh and for Toshinori to gently nod; considering how often Izuku would blame himself for things well beyond his control, or even if he had no fault in it, all three teachers knew the boy's own self-worth was in shambles as is, and despite the fact that Midoriya had asked to keep Bakugo in UA, because Izuku thought that the blonde teenager could still be a great hero, despite his shortcomings.
A knock on the door to the room could be heard, and snapping the three out of their thoughts, Grim opened the door and peered in, "I take it everything is fine for now?"
"For now." Nezu said as he got off his chair, "I trust everything is prepared for the next showing?"
"Pretty much, and I also have a small section for the pomeranian because I doubt the rest of the students will want to do anything with him." Grim crossed his arms over his chest, "With that said, you three should head back while I go get the students and make sure Midoriya had enough time to at least explain the basics of One for All."
As the trio of pro heroes began to move out of the private room they were in, the robed being watched on in silence, smirking to himself from within the shadows covering his face that the latest guest would enjoy the show as well.
It was a good thing that Grim had brought her only after the second episode so she could catch up.
Himiko groaned as she walked along the hallways to the new viewing room she was going to be watching from. While the reason given when Himiko questioned the robed man was vague, apparently they had decided that the young woman would have a viewing partner so that she wouldn't get too bored and lonely.
Himiko only hoped the person she was going to be viewing this story with was nice.
Still, it sucked that she had to basically grab everything she needed from the room she had been in. From the cooler full of her 'supply' to the unique tablet with the lovely story of her having met the green-haired boy much earlier than what she had anticipated. Thinking about the metal pipe sticking out of Midoriya and making him all bloody, which had made the young woman grin at the images that formed in her mind of what that would look like.
Finally finding room five oh eight, Toga gently knocked on the door, only to hear the gentle, if slightly stuttering feminine voice coming from within, "C-Come in!"
Opening the door, Himiko blinked in astonishment as she came face to face with one of the people she would have expected. The shorter, slightly rounder woman had moved off of her chair, gently bowing towards the young bloodsucker, as forest green eyes met golden ones when the slightly older woman gave Himiko a gentle smile.
"H-Hello there. M-My name is Inko Midoriya. It's a pleasure to meet you. What's your name, dear?"
