Part 10-
Author's note: Still unbetaed. English is not my first language, I'm sorry for any errors.
Also warning, it's a Dagur/Hiccup fic. If that's not your cup of tea, close this story and go to read other ones!
When Hiccup woke in his bed Toothless was by his side, his dark scales lit by the fiery rays of the blooming sunset.
The dragon rider was comfortably tucked in warm blankets; it was difficult not to smile when he could still feel lingering the warmth and care his friends had provided him after the fight.
Toothless gurgled a greeting to his human when he noticed him awake and proceeded to yawn and stretch his dark spine. "Hi bud" Hiccup greeted tiredly, He slowly reached out to pat the dragon's head when he noted the figure deeply asleep in the chair not far from the bed. His head tilted to the side as he realized that the Berserker was sleeping so deeply he was drooling onto his own shoulder.
Hiccup chuckled lightly at that sight. The young viking moved the blanked away from him but halted with a quiet hiss when the leg burned at the first movement out of the bed. The fatigue was slowly melting away from his body but the new wound was still fresh and now that he was conscious it burned a lot.
He looked at the dressing; it was perfectly wrapped around his leg and there was not any doubt in his mind that Fishleg had been the one to wrap it up.
Toothless scratched his head against the prosthetic leg, calling for his attention; Hiccup smiled and, grateful for that support, rewarded his friend with a nice and long rub on his scaly neck.
A grunt from the sleeping figure made rider and Night Fury turn to look at the redhead but the latter seemed to be still deeply asleep, softly snoring from time to time.
Hiccup nodded to the dragon, signaling that was time for them to move. As much as he feared the pain, he needed to walk for a bit of fresh air.
Quietly they both got out of the hut through the broken door, one leaning to the other for support. The hooligan's heir made a mental note to rebuilt the mechanism once he was in better shape and could move around freely; right now he had to rest and recover as fast as he could. Viggo was probably scheming some kind of revenge for the loss of the Lens, they couldn't afford not to be prepared this time.
As he exited the sky filled his vision with warm colors; just a few clouds were scattered over their heads, probably as consequence of their last fight with the dragon hunters.
It was a soothing vision, the gentle wind chiseling the clouds in constantly moving shapes. Hiccup relaxed his posture and put his full weight on Toothless as he breathed in the chill air of the twilight.
A rushing sound and fast steps on the grass behind them told him that the sleeping beauty was up.
"Look who's finally awake" the young viking exclaimed turning back but still gripping at Toothless for support.
The redhead had finally noticed his absence and was silently approaching him "You shouldn't be out of bed yet"
Hiccup smiled at the hidden concern in the other's voice and followed the newcomer's movements as he got to his side. "It's not that bad as long as I don't put too much weight on the wound".
Dagur immediately snorted loudly at that reply and Hiccup knew, he just knew, that the Berserker was restraining himself to make some kind of comment about his scrawny figure.
"Yeah well" the redhead grunted instead, discomfort blatantly present in his words " try not to overexert yourself as usual. Your friends were worried, they stayed for, like, EVER while you were sleeping"
"Oh so you were not worried"
"I...I didn't say that" Dagur began fidgeting, all the fingers of his hands twitching on his sides.
No of course not, Hiccup thought. He just told him involuntarily that the redheaded had stayed probably more than everybody else in his hut watching over him.
"So?" Hiccup insisted, slyly after a few seconds of stubborn silence "Were you?"
"OF COURSE I WAS!" he bursted out yelling, his green eyes looking ferociously at the younger ones'. Seeing the other completely unfazed by his righteous rage, he snorted again and turned to look at the horizon with a scowl on his rough face.
"These incidents keeps on repeating... you might as well think about uh, I don't know, expand your hut or something"
"I hope it doesn't come to that solution, I'd prefer to stay out of arrows and any sharp objects from now on, thank you" he joked lightly, trying to get any other kind of reaction from him. It was nice to be back to talking point with the redhead.
Dagur's face contorted in a scary expression, but he still refused to look at him and remained stoically facing the darkening sky.
They were quiet for a few more seconds, a gentle yet cold breeze whispering promises about the imminent night as both began to see the new birth of twinkling lights in the dark sky.
"I'm sorry"
Hiccup turned to look back to the taller viking, not sure he heard those exact words. "What?"
The redhead, with the same scary expression on his face, closed the distance and Hiccup could finally read a few of those raw emotions. He saw fear, rage, and...was that regret? He couldn't decipher what was seeing over that scarred face because he felt himself be wrapped in tight arms and all rational thoughts flew away.
A little yelp exited both his dragon's and his mouth when had to surrender to that new form of support that tear him away from his Night Fury. Toothless grunted in dragonese his discontent for that abrupt action, but quietly remained to their side, waiting.
Hiccup stood frozen as he felt the Berserker tighten his grip "Dagur" he began uncertain, a light blush on his cheeks. The warmth emanating from the muscular form was alluring and comforting at the same time, and the warrior's scent slowly permeated his every senses.
"You risked your life for me" Dagur shook his head, still unable to get out of his mind the moment of the battle that had nearly scared him to death.
Hiccup finally relaxed, smiled and used his own arm to envelope the warrior "I did. And I'm very glad you are safe Dagur"
The Berserker's face turned to look at the younger viking "You are the crazy one, brother" he said but in his tone there was admiration and, Hiccup hoped, something more.
Hiccup kept on smiling but sighed "I'm not your brother Dagur, and I don't want to be" he reached out to caress a rough cheek "but if that's all you feel then-"
"NO" Dagur exclaimed with so much heat that at the same time he let go of his grip on the other. Luckily Toothless was expecting something like that to happen and promptly helped the younger viking to regain his posture with another unimpressed sound.
"Ouch! Dagur can you please stop-?"
"Sorry sorry that wasn't my intention, sorry!" he waved his arms wildly, as to release all the thoughts and feeling that were overwhelming his all being."But you are throwing THINGS on my way! Uh feelings, I...I am not used to think about feelings. I just...fight" he ended but the shock wave was still ongoing in all his body.
"It's ok" Hiccup braced himself as he left the dragon's support to balance himself on his prosthetic leg alone and reach out to catch the giant hand of the older male. The Berserker face turned a lovely shade of red at that new closeness " I just wanted to show you what I was thinking instead of explaining. I'm sorry if I scared you"
"Scare me? Uh! I'm not scared"
"Really?" a single brow raised in mistrust at those words.
"I'm a Berserker, I am never scared!"
"Right" Hiccup eyed him suspiciously, then a corner of his lips turned slightly upward "So if I try to kiss you right now..." the tone of his voice lowered in a very sensual note while Hiccup, very slowly, tried to get closer to the warrior's face.
He needed to give him time to react, to see if that's what also the other wanted.
Hiccup didn't have to wait long because the Berserker used the leverage of his captive hand, pulled carefully the younger viking in his arms and sealed the deal.
Toothless at that moment rolled his eyes at those humans and quietly left them alone, blending perfectly in the dark but sparkling night.
