Sunagakure: More Trouble Before the War

I let out a sigh at the quite precarious situation Sunagakure is in. Turning around from the window that looked out into the village, I sat down in my newly acquired Kazekage chair. It has been one week since the assassination of the third Kazekage, one of our strongest puppet users, Sasori, has defected, our scrolls are still not found and the Anbu sent have been unsuccessful in finding Katomi, and the war will be starting at any moment. I sighed once more, rubbing my spiky red hair in frustration. "Damn it," I growled out in anger. My wife, Karura, has been pestering me to call off our engagement in the war, our village has been weakened far too much to participate, along some of our secret techniques are still not found. Pulling out of this war seems more and more like a better option, we can concentrate our focus on developing our shinobi further in the meantime, however, avoiding this war would mean a blow to our trade relationship with Amegakure. This means leaving Ame to fight alone with the likelihood of being turned into a battleground by Iwagakure, Kumogakure, Kirigakure, and Konohagakure.

If only to add to the problem, our jinchuuriki, Bunpoku, is growing older and older by the minute, which means he is not as fit to be on the battlefield as before, he probably has only another 4 years before I need to force him into retirement and groom another jinchuuriki, however, there currently aren't any suitable candidates. To be a jinchuuriki of the demon raccoon means to be exceptionally strong in mind and spirit. Bunpoku, unfortunately, doesn't have any children and no civilian-born child will work. Pakura is far too high profile and has already matured into an adult and a capable jonin, mature chakra coils are not good for a prospective jinchuuriki. Her spirit is strong, but she's a better fit for training the next generation. Perhaps we could seal Shukaku into another vase, if only temporarily. At this point, with all of these problems, it's best to remain out of this, let's see if I could broker an agreement with one of the other villages at the very least.

"You have improved greatly over the last two months, Katomi," Ariana said, as I finished reviewing my progress. That wasn't the only thing to improve. More importantly, I've come to peace with my feelings toward Akito and we have become close friends. We both clearly still wish to be more intimate, but we are taking our time, mainly because of me trying to come to terms with the mental age difference. I stood up straight and stretched inside of my home, getting some movement into my body after sitting and planning my next actions. I smiled softly, remembering the first time in this life that I was able to let out some of my emotions to someone I could trust. It was also the first, but not the last time, that I was embraced with such warmth and non-judgment. My feelings only grew stronger for my dinner plate-kun after that day. To be a civilian, who already is at a disadvantage when it comes to understanding some of the basics of being a warrior, let alone a kid at the exact physical age that I am, and to not judge me or look at me with fear for admitting the killing of my father. That alone cemented Akito as someone that I will be spending the rest of my life with, no matter what happens.

No matter how far I may be in the elemental nations, which is already a guarantee once I mobilize in the upcoming war, I will still find a way to be back to him. Even if it may be early, for him at least, to consider marriage, I, however, will wait patiently until we are both physically older and more mature. I decided that I would eventually tell him about my gamer abilities, but when it comes to my previous life, I'm taking that to my grave. My past life is my past life, I am no longer Arjuna, at least not fully. I am Katomi, and what matters is the now, not the before. Finishing my stretches, I walk over to my scroll of the map of the elemental nations, going over my next move. The first move will be to assist the Uzumaki clan to the best of my abilities. It was never clear when the Uzumaki were attacked, however, it was without a doubt, during the beginning of the war. Kumo, Iwa, and Kiri will be sending out some of their troops on ships, creating a large naval fleet of the combined villages. To my knowledge, they are likely to meet up and form together at or close to the Land of Waves.

I'll make my way towards the east and get to the Land of Waves as soon as possible. Once there, I'll patrol the shores and see if I'm able to spot the naval fleet, if so and they are still gathering their forces, then I'll try to sabotage the vessels as much as possible. After that, I'll disengage and remain on standby for when they finally take off. After they started their mission, I, along with my newly dubbed, 'Nightstalker Unit', which consisted of Karasu, Saki, along with 13 other of our crow and raven comrades, will then engage the fleet once we were at least a kilometer from the shores of Wave Country, to minimize any collateral damage. Fortunately, most ninjas of this world are built to deal with ground-based attacks and not quick and explosive aerial-based attacks. No one is expecting an enemy or enemies who can fly, especially when dealing with the Uzumaki is their current objective. Once we do enough damage to the fleet, I, along with my comrades will disengage once more and retreat.

I will be going in without any use of a disguise, my main goal for this is to garner allies, especially powerful allies. Not only that but perhaps I could sway the Uzumaki away from Konoha so they can be on friendly terms with me and my village for a longer time. They could also provide useful seals and help with our infrastructure. We will eventually provide them with improved military technology, along with discounted prices for our goods. I've come to peace with the fact that the game of politics has no room for honesty or morality. In my last life, and in this world, when it comes to money, power, or influence in general, humans would throw away any sense of morals to obtain it. While I don't intend to completely forget about what and who I fight for, the people of my village, I am a warrior, and I will do what is necessary for the people of this village. Whether that means to lie, assassinate, or manipulate, if I want this experiment to be a success, this is what's necessary for the end. The children of this village can be children, the needs of the needy will be taken care of, and those who are often forgotten or caught in the crossfire of this world of shinobi will be able to finally fight for themselves.

Come to think of it, the Land of Waves may likely be an ally, but, we will see once it is confirmed by their Daimyo. I sighed, before rolling up the scroll and placing it into one of the pockets of my cargo pants. I decided to do away with wearing one of my beautiful, and quite expensive kimonos for this long journey. I chose to wear tight-fitting cargo pants, to minimize drag, along with my gladiator combat sandals, my black cloak, and a black crop top with tight-fitting mesh armour underneath. After putting away the scroll, I grabbed my Wakazashi blades and took them out of the scabbard, looking them over to make sure that they were still sharp. "So it begins," Ariana spoke, earning a head nod from me, before placing the blades back into the scabbard, and fixing the scabbard to my back, securing the straps around my shoulders. I then grabbed the rest of my equipment, fitting my folded battle fans onto my hips and the small case of poisoned sinbon. Placing the case of needles into one of my other pockets, I grabbed my fingerless gloves and made my way out of my home. Once stepping onto my porch, I smiled at my comrades, who were already ready to take flight. "Hello everyone," I said gently before continuing, "I have something to do first, wait for me at the Eastpoint of the village, I'll only be a minute," I said as they nodded and took off eastward as I also beckoned my wings to form and took off towards a special place.

Firefly Village: Before I Forget

Landing behind a nearby building, I allowed my wings to disappear as I raised my hood over my head, covering my face and identity, and made my way to Akito's house. Since I've been to his house numerous times over the last couple of months, I knew exactly where his room was. Since it was also the middle of the night, everyone was asleep by now, however, Akito usually had his window opened slightly since it was now getting closer to fall, allowing some of the cool night breeze to come into his room. However, it seems this time, more than just a breeze will be getting into his room tonight. As I made it to his second-floor window, I paused, realizing how that thought sounded and immediately quelled the heat flowing to my cheeks. "How classy," I thought, as I slowly lifted his window and sat on the frame. I took off my sandals and carried them, before allowing my bare feet to touch the floor. I looked down at my toes for a moment, inwardly appreciating the work I did to paint them in a beautiful scarlet red color, before turning my attention to the sleeping form of Akito.

My smile brightened even more as I made my way to his bedside, removing the hood from my head and sitting down beside him. I put down my sandals, making sure they were sideways so the soles were not directly touching the floor. I reached over to shake Akito awake, "Akito-kun," I spoke softly as he groaned quietly and turned his head to look into my eyes. He jumped, slightly startled before I reached over and handed over his glasses. "Katomi-chan?" He spoke questioningly while sitting up straight, as I smiled and giggled. "I just wanted to say that I will be gone for a while, probably a month or more," I said in a saddened tone. At my words, he, predictably, went pale, and right as he was about to splutter out words, I quickly reached and shushed him with my finger. "I'll tell you later, but don't worry, I'll even send letters when I can," I spoke in a whisper, earning a defeated sigh from him. It was at this moment, that I decided to ditch any sense of logic, I didn't wish to see him hurt, especially after what I accidentally did to him when he asked me that question about my father.

My finger, which was currently on his lip, slowly moved down to his chin as I then gently cupped it with my fingertips. He looked back at me with confusion but wasn't able to react when I leaned in and captured his lips in a kiss. "This is my promise...from me...to you...my sunshine," I said gently as I pulled back, seeing that he was turning bright red. "I-I-I-I-," he stuttered, but I cut him off with another soft kiss on the lips. After another moment, I pulled back once again, just in time as his eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fainted back onto his pillow, his face resembling the red color of my finger and toenails, and plastered with a large smile. I let out a soft giggle as I lifted his blanket over him, before leaning down and placing another kiss on his forehead. "I love you," I said, taking his glasses off and placing them on his nightstand.

I finally stood up, grabbed my sandals, and walked to the window, before once again sitting on the frame and putting on my sandals. I moved my legs out of the window, placing the hood back onto my head before taking another glance at Akito, climbing out of the window, using my chakra to stick to the wall and close his window to its previous position. I then looked around to be sure I had not been spotted. Seeing that it was clear, I beckoned my wings to form once more and took flight eastward, face now set in stone, betraying my resolve for the future. "Comrades, I'm on the way, remain on standby, we will go for an hour before taking a short rest and continuing, we must make haste so we can make it in time," I commanded in thought. "Roger that madam, finally, we get to stretch our wings again," Karasu's deep voice responded telepathically. I smiled at the comment and sped up towards the rendevous point.

Land of Fire, 9 Kilometers South of the Fire Temple: Mission Day 1

"Whew, damn boss, you're just built different, or maybe I'm just getting old?" Karasu spoke telepathically as we all landed near the entrance of a cave, deep in the forests. "Aw shut up, you're only 4 years old, that's like...middle-aged in human years," Saki spoke, earning a chuckle from everyone. Karasu grunted indignantly before landing on the ground of the cave, which had a decent amount of moss covering the ground. I laid down beside everyone else and stretched, slightly stuffed from the feast of a wild boar that we caught earlier before coming into the cave to settle down for the day. "Hm, we you should be sure those old bones still work for our next push tonight," I said out loud, turning to my side and started petting the wings of Yoru, one of our comrades. "If I may ask, what do you plan to do after this?" Ariana asked. I flipped to my back before answering, "The hunt for Zetsu or Madara, whichever comes first. We'll head to the valley of the end and scout out any possible evidence," I answered in thought.

"I wanted to get much of this over as soon as possible, take out the major issues now or at least take out much of their power or influence, then get back to dealing with a set of other challenges; that being the building of my village," I finished. "I don't believe that all of this can be done in a month, perhaps you'll be able to get some evidence of Zetsu or Madara, but if you are also aiming for Nagato, by the time you get to the Village of Rain, it'll already be a battleground," Ariana responded, earning a sigh from me. "You're likely right on that," I answered back before she asked another query, "And are you sure about killing a child, who currently is innocent?" I lay frozen for a second, pondering the words, was it the best decision? Was there any other option? Questions flowed through my mind as I looked up to the ceiling of the cave, lost for words. "There's no other option that I could think of, at the very least, the rinnegan needs to be destroyed. I don't want to kill Nagato if it's not necessary, but those eyes are far too powerful and important to the awakening of Kaguya in the end," I answered tiredly.

"Why not replace your eyes with them, your gamer's body ability should be able to heal it?" She asked once more, "No, then I would become a target by the Otsutsuki, and it would bring avoidable attention. To prevent or at least mitigate the possibility of those aliens coming here, those eyes need to go," I answered back firmly before adding, "And when it comes to virtually blinding a kid, that is if I didn't kill him, there's not much of a workaround to that either. Either I kill Nagato outright and destroy those eyes, or I suppress him long enough to take out the eyes and destroy them, rendering him blind for the rest of his life. If I try finding another set of eyes, I would most likely have to get eyes from another child roughly his age since the eyes of a fully grown adult would not fit inside of his sockets. To add to that, I don't know medical jutsu, or anyone who's capable of using it. Sure, I could probably try using senjutsu chakra, but using senjutsu chakra to power my jutsu and using it to create an entire organ, is an entirely different thing that I am nowhere near being able to do. Either way, Nagato is screwed, and really, this makes me want Madara's fucking blood even more for forcing this shit onto a random child," I finished angrily.

"I see, that's quite unfortunate," Ariana answered back grimly. I let out a sigh in frustration, the weight of hurting an innocent child weighed heavy on my conscience, I really wanted to avoid doing this in this world, already having enough of this from my past life. Alast, it seems that I cannot escape that reality in this world either. Thank God or Kami that Madara should still be weak and old around this time, facing him at his peak would've been...tough to say the least. I looked over towards my bird comrades, seeing that they were starting to settle in for some rest before we moved out later. I decided to turn back to the ceiling and ponder my plans for Madara.

Land of Fire, 5 Kilometers North of the Fire Capital: Mission Day 2

We dashed and flew between the dense foliage as the high moon settled in the dark sky. We kept low for this part of the journey due to being able to conceal ourselves better in the trees instead of being easily spotted in the sky. That presented another problem, while we wouldn't be spotted in the sky, we could be spotted by ground troops of Konoha shinobi, which is exactly the problem facing us right about now. "Sweet joy, Konoha troops at our twelve, heading south, presumably towards the Fire capital," I said in thought as I sat, along with my comrades a few kilometers from the position of the Konoha troop's camp. Obviously, I was channeling senjutsu chakra so I wasn't spotted with my chakra being camouflaged to reflect the natural energy around us. However, my red eyes were still easy to spot if you looked in the right spot. If we moved, we could likely be heard, but if we stayed, we risk jeopardizing the mission time limit and the survival of the Uzumaki.

"Hm, that's strange, if Konoha shinobi were this close to the capital in canon, why were they not able to know the mobilization of the troops off the coast of Fire Country? Surely, if they had some stationed at their country's border, they would've been able to see the ships heading toward one of their most powerful allies. They might not have been able to spare that many jonin-ranked shinobi due to how much land the Fire Country's border represents, but they should at least be able to spare some lower-ranked shinobi. Even so, crossing into the borders to and from the Land of Rivers, proved to me that Konoha or the Fire Daimyo are not too concerned with their borders away from the immediate threats." I pondered in thought. Honestly, with how many enemies were able to invade Konoha or missing-nin or a certain disgruntled Uchiha genin being able to leave the village without much struggle in canon; this adds up pretty well.

"Well, who are you to complain?" Ariana chirped. I smiled slightly before shrugging, "I guess you're right on that," I responded. I looked back towards the shinobi group, without a doubt, one of them was at least a jonin. "Honestly, I am glad, I was reincarnated into this world years before Minato became a jonin, he would've been chasing my ass from here to Kumo. I may easily have him in terms of air superiority or even ground speed in a densely populated area, but in terms of raw speed, well, that fucker can straight-up teleport," I said in thought, slightly excited at the possible fight I may have with him in the future. "Um, Katomi, you can also teleport," Ariana said, probably trying to make me feel better about myself. I scoffed before replying, "My teleportation abilities are only second best compared to the flying raijin," I answered back before thinking of a strategy to evade the shinobi in front of us.

I let out a quiet sigh before coming to a quick decision, "Comrades, prepare yourselves, we're going for a Hail Mary and booking it past them at our fastest speeds, and head eastward." I commanded telepathically, getting a slightly confused look from them. "What's a Hail Mary?" The de facto Lieutenant of the Nightstalker division, Karasu replied. I giggled, remembering that they had no idea about the sport improperly called, 'American Football'. "It's a long story, but basically, imagine that we are an acorn being held by the buffest squirrel in existence, the said squirrel wants to throw us into the hole of a tree from a great distance away, avoiding the grasp of the opponents in front of him. We are that acorn, and we fly like Yami's on our collective asses past these chumps and make it to our tree hole, or as far east of this location as fast as possible."

I finished explaining as he turned back to face our enemies, "You have a very strange way with words, Captain, and beyond that, we aren't nearly as fast as you are," Lieutenant Old Squawker responded. I turned to him amused, "Would you like for me to carry you?" I asked as he scoffed, "Maybe in a few years when you finally come with some built-in cushioning, you know, for these old bones," he responded as I felt both of my eyebrows twitch, "Pervert," I responded before adding, "I'll fly low to distract them, while, the rest of you spread out and go around them, on my go we move," I responded before beckoning my wings to form and crouching into a ready position. "Roger that, Captain," he responded.

"Here goes," I spoke out loud before flexing my wings and taking off, heading towards the Konoha unit. Dodging around some of the trees and reaching the camp in a matter of a few seconds, I targeted one of the men sitting on the log before reaching one of my arms out. They all stiffened slightly, likely noticing the sound of my movements, however, my target didn't have time to react to the hard slap to his face. "ARGH, THE HELL!?" He shouted as he fell off the log, unfortunately, I moved far too fast and quickly made my way back into the trees. I used my senses to sense where my comrades were, seeing that they were already past the men, I sped up and burned a path eastward with them, leaving the shinobi behind without much trouble, even as one of them tried to keep up. Obviously, with my airspeed, that didn't last long.

Land of Fire, Nearing the Coast: Mission Day 3

We finally made it to where we were now only a few kilometers from the Land of Waves, since the unit that we came across several hours ago, we have been in the clear. "Karasu, take the unit ahead and spread out around the Land of Waves, keep me updated on any movements. Once the targets arrive, stay behind and wait for me to come back, I don't want any of you to get hurt," I commanded. "Yes ma'am, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside for your concern," Karasu responded, earning a giggle from Saki and a few of the others as they flew off. I continued my journey forward, flying at a moderately fast speed, roughly half of my top speed while flying parallel to the ground. That mattered not, for my enhanced perception could see much of the forest around without much issue.

After several minutes, I finally landed in the tree canopy overlooking the Land of Waves and the village below, which clearly lacked a bridge. "Shit, it seems like they have taken over the southern coast," I cursed, noticing a large number of ships with the flags of a few of the hidden villages docked at the southern port of Wave Country. "Seriously, how did Konoha not react in time, they didn't even send a few shinobi to at least try to help out?" I asked in thought while planning my next actions. "Karasu, status report," I commanded mentally. "Roger, I am currently located in the southern part, in a tree overlooking the ships. It seems as if there are a total of about 12 ships, all have shinobi ranging from jonin to chunin, roughly 30 targets per ship," He answered. "Damn, Saki, what's it looking like in her neck of the woods?" I asked.

"Yes ma'am, I'm located on the far east part of the island, looking into the direction of Kirigakure. I currently see a few ships making their way here, they seem to also have about 30 men on the ships," she answered. Damn, the Uzumaki are nothing to scoff at if they need this many shinobi to attack them. Without a doubt, I need to disengage slightly before coming to one of the whirlpools that surround the island, I need to avoid the detection of the Uzumaki above all costs, or at least make it clear that I'm on their side unless I risk one of them spawning the damn Shinigami out of nowhere and sealing me into themselves. What an overpowered clan, to be able to just bring a literal God into this dimension.

"Yoru, what you got for me?" I asked. "Captain, I've been scouting around in the village and it seems as if the Daimyo has been either bribed or held captive. There are plenty of troops from Kumo, Iwa, and Kiri seemingly walking around the village like they have no care in the world, collecting some of the food and materials from the village merchants," he finished. I sat and pondered more on the situation, "What could this mean? Logically, due to the geography, the Land of Waves must either be close allies to Uzushiogakure or a competitive enemy trying to control the economics of the water around here. This brings up my question from earlier, if they are allied with Uzu, why are they not, at least slightly, being guarded by Konoha shinobi or at least some samurai? The friend of a friend is, at least, someone you mutually respect; similar to the enemy of an enemy is someone you could also respect to some degree." I thought as I decided to sit down on the tree I was on, crossing my legs and getting comfortable, allowing my wings to dissipate once more.

"This must mean that the Daimyo of this country is at best, neutral, or at worst, a competitor for trade. This makes no real strategic sense considering that to the south is the Land of Noodles, to the east is Fire Country, and to the north and northeast respectively, is the Land of Hot Water and Uzushiogakure. Wouldn't they want to at least be allies to these countries and benefit greatly economically? Or perhaps, they are also allies of Kiri, who are far to the east, making them de facto enemies of Fire Country and its allies, at least during this war. Either way, the Daimyo seems to be friendly with the amassing of shinobi in the territory of his country. If he was allied with Fire Country, there would've already been Konoha, along with Uzu shinobi here. This must mean that with the attack and attempt to bring down Uzushiogakure, they would benefit due to now being in control of the waters, making it to where, whatever comes to Fire Country, would have to come through them first. There are ports down in the Land of Tea, but they may not be as useful when the winter season comes around, thus positioning the Land of Waves as a strategic powerhouse of the eastern part of this continent." I summarized in thought.

"Then that brings to mind, what can I do?" I mused silently, instinctively reaching up and stroking my loose hair that flown wild and free. I smiled deviously as an idea came to me, "Karasu, Saki, Yoru, locate me the food stockpiles or the stores they are going to, I have a plan," I said before standing up and making my way down the tree, aiming to sneak into the village. Getting in shouldn't be too hard, considering that the shinobi were more focused on getting supplies and making their way to the docks. This was a moderately large civilian village, so I wouldn't look too suspicious considering my childish stature. "Right away captain," Saki said as I reached the bottom of the tree and transformed into a raven, flying my way into the village and aiming for an inconspicuous area near some random person's house on the western section of the island.

1 Hour Later

"You know, they really should guard their food better," I said as I finished setting up a backup plan. It wasn't much of a plan, more of a, "fuck you, have a good day". "Poisoning their food with laxatives? How mature," Ariana responded as I made my way back to the trees outside of the village in preparation to engage. "Hm, war is never a place for fair play, only making it to see the next battle, alive and mostly intact," I responded as I settled back down in my previous spot and waited for them to start mobilizing. Once I disengage, there isn't much that can be done, and it'll all be left to the Uzumaki, however, just in case they decide to retreat, they will have a quite...unpleasant surprise while going back to their shitholes, literally. I decided not to use my poisons due to the amount I would need to use, and the fact that it would take too much time. Besides, is not like most people really need laxatives right now.
