"Grandpa, can I go see Grandma?"
Tony was so surprised to see them together that he didn't hear Nicky. Instead he felt like he was frozen in place. What were they doing here? From what he could tell things seemed to be okay. They were just sitting and talking but it just seemed strange seeing them together.
"Grandpa!" Nicky tugged at his hand.
"Oh sorry buddy. What did you say?"
"Can I go see Grandma?"
"UMMM sure. Go ahead." He let go of his hand and Nicky took off running.
"Hi Grandma!" Nicky yelled running up to Angela and Teresa.
"Nicky! Hi honey!" Angela exclaimed, holding her arms out. Nicky ran into them and threw his arms around her neck. He pulled back and sat down next to Angela. He turned to Teresa.
"Hi!" he smiled.
"Hi Nicky!" she smiled back.
Tony walked over observing the three of them together. Nicky looked so happy sitting next to Angela that it warmed his heart. He could tell that he didn't feel that comfortable with Teresa but it was understandable. He just needed some time and eventually he would- at least he hoped so.
"Hello Ladies!" Tony greeted them.
"Hi Tony." Angela smiled.
"Hi honey!" Teresa got up and went over and kissed him on the cheek.
"So how was brunch?" Tony asked nervously, his eyes darting back and forth between the two women.
"It was good."
"Yea, the food was delicious."
"What did you have, Grandma?"
"My favorite; Belgian waffles!"
Nicky's face lit up. "Grandpa and I had that too! And I had whipped cream on them just like you do!"
"Oh they're so good with whipped cream aren't they?"
Nicky nodded. "But, Grandpa made me eat a banana first."
Angela laughed. "That's because your Grandpa wants you to grow up to be a big strong boy."
"That I do buddy boy!" Tony said.
"So, I take it the two of you came here to play a little baseball?" Teresa asked, gesturing to the bat and ball in Tony's hands.
"Yeah, we are. We're just waiting for Mona, Jonathan, and Claire to get here."
As if on cue they spotted the three of them walking towards them.
"Isn't this cozy? The love triangle is together." Mona smirked and rolled her eyes.
"Mona! Behave." Claire whispered.
"I promise I will be on my best behavior."
Claire and Jonathan exchanged glances.
"That doesn't reassure us Grandma."
"Okay fine! I will try. Happy?"
"I guess so." Claire grumbled. "And tell me how am I supposed to explain to Angela why I am here when I'm supposed to be working?!"
Mona rolled her eyes again. "Oh calm down! I'll handle the Boss lady."
"Hey everyone!" Mona greeted them.
Angela, Tony, and Teresa returned her greeting.
"Ummm Angela I know I'm supposed to be working but…"
Mona cut her off. "Look Angela. Nicky wanted her to come and it's a nice day out so let's not make a big deal here okay?"
Angela smiled. "Claire, it's okay. Mother is right. It is a nice day out. And I know how hard it is to say no to Nicky."
"Speaking of which. How about we go play some ball now?" Tony asked.
"YAY!" Nicky yelled. He got up and grabbed Jonathan's hand. "Come on Uncle Jonathan!" He pulled him to the baseball field with Tony and Teresa following behind them. Mona and Claire sat down next to Angela.
"So how did brunch go with the *other woman*?"
""Mona! You said you were going to behave!"
"I said I would try. Besides, it's just the three of us here. So Angela, how did brunch go?"
"It was okay. The food was great!"
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The food is always good. But how did things go between the two of you?!"
"Well it was a little awkward." Angela admitted.
"A little awkward? Angela, come on! Things are more than a little awkward!"
"Okay fine! They were very awkward. Especially when she asked me why I left Tony in Iowa."
"Wow! She really asked you that?" Claire asked.
"And what did you tell her?"
"I told her the truth. About how excited Tony was when Dr Graham offered him the new contract. And that I knew that I couldn't stay there any longer and be a housewife, I also knew that I couldn't ask Tony to give up his dream job. I didn't want him to end up resenting me if I begged him to refuse the contract and come home with me. I loved- love him much too much to do that to him. He is doing what he is meant to be doing. Iowa is where he belongs now."
"Bull shit!" Mona snapped.
"Mother!"
"Don't Mother me Blondie! Look Angela I love you but sometimes you are too noble for your own good. The two of you took forever to admit that you loved each other and you let him go? Worse yet he let you?! "
"Mother, it's not that easy. It wasn't that easy."
"Oh yes it is and was. He could have refused to sign and come home with you which is what the two of you had agreed on before he moved out there. He broke his promise. I was right. He is just like Michael."
"Just like… Mother, what in the world are you talking about? Tony is nothing like him."
"Normally, I would agree. But just like Michael he chose his career over you. Face it he could have come home and looked for jobs here."
"I have to agree with Mona." Claire said gently. "I mean there had to have been teaching jobs here in Connecticut."
"Look, I know the two of you are just trying to help and I appreciate it. But, Tony was so happy there. I was living there with him and I saw how happy he was."
"Maybe he was happy because you were with him." Claire pointed out.
"She's right. You being there with him made him happy. Oh, sure teaching those kids made him happy too but it was you- you Angela that made it all worthwhile. Which is why I still can't and don't understand to this day why he chose that job and place over you?!"
"I told him that he is doing what he is meant to do."
"He is meant to be with you."
"Well that is never going to happen. He is with Teresa and they are getting married."
"Oh please! Teresa is just another Kathleen!"
"Kathleen?! Why are you bringing her into this?!" Even after all these years hearing her name sent a shiver through her and made her stomach clench up.
"Because, just like Kathleen, Tony is hiding behind Teresa because he can't or won't admit that he loves you. "
Angela shook her head. "Mother, Tony asked Teresa to marry him. Does that sound like he is hiding?"
"Yeah, it does. Because he is still hurt over the fact that you left him. And I'm not saying he doesn't have the right to feel that way. But, the two of you need to talk about this. And I mean seriously talk. "
"We have talked. And we're not at that place anymore. We haven't been in years. Tony has moved on." She took a deep breath. And it's time I do the same."
Mona opened her mouth to protest but caught Claire shaking her head. Instead she took Angela's hand in hers and the three of them turned their attention to the baseball field.

"Good job Nicky!" Tony cheered as Nicky ran around the bases.
"So, tell me the truth. How did brunch go?" he asked Teresa.
"It really did go okay. I mean yeah, it was awkward. But, after Angela told me why she left you things got a little better."
"Angela, told you why she left me?"
"Yeah, I asked her."
"Why did you do that? That was between the two of us!"
Teresa was taken aback from his response. "Because I was curious. And as your fiance I thought I had the right to know what caused your break up."
Tony shook his head. "Look, I understand you being curious but you should have let it alone. My past with Angela is just that- my past. Whatever happened between the two of us is our business. "
"Tony, look I'm sorry if you think I overstepped but…'
"Why Tony Micelli! It's good to see you!"
