Renata twisted her fingers together nervously while she waited for everyone in the kitchen to finish talking. She still couldn't believe what had happened! What had started out as a great night quickly snowballed into one of the most horrible nights of her life. She had been on cloud nine when she had arrived at work. She had finished Angela's video and it was one of the best she had never done. She was extremely proud of it and couldn't wait until she could call and tell Tony that it was ready. But as soon as she got to work she was told that her first table was ready to order. She put on her apron and got out her notepad and pencil and walked out into the dining room and inwardly groaned when she saw who it was.
Of all the people to start her shift with, it had to be these three. Joanne Parker, Diane Willimgton, and Pam Harper. Pam Harper was actually okay by herself but when she was paired with the other two…well let's just say it was never a pleasant experience. But, she had a job to do and they were customers just like any other person who came into the Country Club. So she plastered a smile on her face and walked over to their table.
"Good Evening Ladies! May I start you out with something to drink? Some coffee? Lemonade? Iced Tea?"
"Oh no no iced tea!" Joanne said, shivering still remembering the coldness and stickiness from the iced tea Mona had poured over her.
Pam and Diane exchanged amused glances but kept their mouths shut. They all ordered coffee and Renata said she would get their drinks while they looked over the menu.
"Okay so how are we going to play this?" Pam asked, taking a sip of her water.
"Yeah, should we just come right out and ask her why she is having an affair with Tony?" Diane wanted to know.
"No. No. I think it would be more fun if we tortured her a little." Joanne said her face lighting up like the Cheshire cat.
"Okay, then how do we start?" Pam asked.
"Just leave it to me." Joanne smirked.
"Here you are ladies" Renata said and placed a cup of coffee down in front of each of them. She set the coffee pot on a tray in the middle of the table with a small bowl of cream and packets of sugar.
"Are we ready to order?" she smiled.
"Yes, I believe I will have the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes." Pam started.
"And I will have the vegetable soup with an order of cornbread." Diane said.
"And I will have the perch with a side order of fries." Joanne said.
Renata wrote their orders down. "Okay I will put these in for you."
"Thank you Renata." Pam smiled at her.
Renata smiled back and collected their menus. She walked away and when she was out of earshot they started brainstorming on how they were going to get her to confess her affair with Tony.
"You know she does look a little tired. Maybe we should ask her if she has been getting enough sleep?" Diane asked.
"Yeah, that's a good idea." Pam agreed.
"Okay, when she comes with our meals that's when we'll ask her." Joanne told them.
While they waited for their meals to arrive they chatted about various other things. After about ten minutes they saw Renata coming their way with a tray of food. She placed the tray on an empty table and set their individual dinner in front of them.
"Here you are ladies. May I get you anything else?"
"Oh no. I think we're good." Pam said.
"Well actually there is something….." Joanne started and looked at Renata.
"Yes? What may I get you?" She picked up the coffee pot intending to get them some fresh hot coffee. She could tell by touching it it was lukewarm.
"The thing is we all noticed how tired you look. Are you okay?" Joanne asked her tone a contradiction to her words.
"What? Oh yes I am a little tired." Renata informed them. She wouldn't and couldn't tell them why though. She had been sworn to secrecy.
"Oh really? And why is that?" Pam asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, I've just been working on a project."
"A project? Is that what they're calling it these days?" Diane asked, rolling her eyes.
"I'm sorry?" Renata turned towards her with a confused look on her face.
""Oh give it up Renata! Stop playing little miss innocent!" Joanne snapped.
"What? I'm sorry I don't know what you're talking about."
Pam folded her arms. "I just want to know. Well we want to know how you could stoop so low?!"
"Yeah don't you have any pride?" Joanne berated her.
"What? Of course I have pride" Renata was truly at a loss
"We thought that Angela was your friend and you sneak around her back like this?!" Diane growled. "I mean for crying out loud if Tony was going to step out on Angela you would think he would do it with someone more appropriate." she pouted.
"Wait a minute! Tony is… no Tony wouldn't do that!" Renata exclaimed.
"Oh yes he would and is. And you are the little tramp he is getting his jollies with!" Diane snapped.
"What?!" Renata was so shocked that she lost her grip on the coffee pot and it went all over Joanne.
Joanne jumped up out of her chair and screamed bloody murder. "You stupid idiot!"
"Oh my gosh Mrs. Parker. I am so sorry!" Renata was in tears.
"You better be sorry. " Joanne snapped and grabbed the napkins that were on the table.
"Well, well well what have we got here? The three bitches of Fairfield!" Mona said coming to their table Claire trailing behind her.
Joanne groaned. "Oh God not you!"
"Yes, me. And now what the hell are the three of you doing harassing this poor girl?"
"Harassing? We are only doing our sisterly duty!" Pam said.
Mona rolled her eyes. "Oh please!" She turned towards Joanne. "Joanne, didn't I tell you to keep your mouth shut? And now you've gone and blabbed to these two."
"Excuse me Mona, but you are not the boss of me! If I want to tell my friends something I will go ahead and do just that!"
"Joanne, I told you that you were wrong. But obviously you have a thick skull and then you come here and harass poor Renata who hasn't done anything wrong."
"Excuse me ladies. What seems to be the trouble here?" The manager came over to their table.
"This stupid waitress of yours spilled coffee all over me!" Joanne informed him. "I'm just lucky it is lukewarm otherwise I would be burned all over!"
The manager turned towards Renata. "Renata, is this true?"
"It was an accident Mr. Simpson."
"Yeah right!" Joanne rolled her eyes.
"She's telling the truth." Another patron came over to their table. "In fact these three-she gestured at them with her hand- were harassing Renata about something so ridiculous I really couldn't believe what I was hearing. "
And Mona couldn't believe who she was seeing and who had come over to defend Renata.
"Kathleen?!"
