A/n: I had friends over today so I got a little busy and had to write this a little later, so by the time I post, it'll probably be the next day but technically I did write it on the same day as the prompt so I'm not behind. Also, my writing recently hasn't been flowing right (idk and idk why or how or even really what but it's different than normal) but I hope you still enjoy!

Jason peeked around the corner of the building, breathing hard but relaxing when he saw that they'd lost their pursuers. A hiss of pain from behind him reminded him of Dick's existence. They may have lost the people after them, but that's didn't mean they were safe.

He walked over to where his older brother lay, slumped against the wall cradling his bloody, twisted arm.

"Okay, I called for backup but I don't know if it went through," Jason said quietly, checking over his shoulder when he heard footsteps in case they'd been found. The sounds soon faded, but he remained on edge. They could be found any second and Dick was in no condition to fight. He himself was tired and one of the men had managed to get a hard blow to his side - in short, they couldn't afford another fight.

He took off his helmet, and crouched down next to Dick, assessing his injuries.

"D- Nightwing, I need you to look at me."

It took too long for his brother to manage that, and while his eyes were covered by the mask, Jason had no doubt that they were pain-filled and unfocused. His brother needed medical attention and soon, but they were in an abandoned part of town and something was jamming his communicator. They couldn't rely on backup.

"Dick, I'm gonna have to set your arm, but I need you to be quiet," he said, tentatively touching his brother's injured limb and receiving winces for his actions.

"Might be a bit hard," Dick managed to get out, blowing out a slow, pained breath. It was obvious how close to unconsciousness his brother was.

"I know, I'm sorry, but they can't find us. You can't fight, and I'd be outnumbered."

"Never stopped you," Dick smirked, before he winced.

"Ha, yeah, I guess it didn't," Jason breathed out a soft laugh as he got out his med-kit. "But back then I didn't care about taking care of someone else."

"You saying you care for me, Jaybird?"

He scoffed, protesting but they both knew it was fake. It'd taken time but he eventually had come to be part of the family again, and instead of trying to kill them, he was ready to kill for them if need be. That didn't mean he had to show it all the time. But for now, it was keeping Dick talking, even if it was difficult for the other man to even breathe.

When his supplies were ready, he grabbed a stick from a few feet away, brushing it off and giving it to Dick.

"Bite down on this," he ordered, holding Dick's bloody arm. His brother steeled himself, stick between his teeth, head leaned back with his eyes closed. "Ready?" Dick nodded, and Jason got ready. "Three… two…".

The stick snapped at the same time the bone did, but Dick didn't make a sound. In fact, apart from jerking and a wince, he didn't move at all. Jason froze.

"Dick?" He asked tentatively, checking to make sure his brother hadn't passed out because if he had, then that wouldn't be good.

"Names," Dick groaned, spitting out the stick, eyes opening slowly. Jason rolled his eyes, but sighed in relief.

"Right, sorry. See if you can find some painkillers in the kit while I bandage it up?"

Dick nodded and reached over with his good arm to root through the bag Jason had. He could have easily found and given Dick the pills, but it was an easy task to keep Dick awake. He'd still lost a lot of blood from his other injuries but Jason wasn't going to let him pass out on him until help arrived.

Once both of them were patched up the best the could be, they managed to slowly and painfully make their way into the nearest empty building - easier to defend and better sheltered just in case they still had people after them. Then they were left to just sit there and wait for help or something worse, whichever found them first.

Dick didn't get much better, getting paler by the minute but after taking some pills - while he was still in pain - he was able to stay awake. Jason's side had started hurting, becoming stiffer, but there wasn't much he could do about it. To keep each other awake and alert, they sat and just talked. They caught up on each others' lives and it was kind of nice. It would have been a lot nicer if it hadn't been in such a bad situation with both of them injured and a real risk of being caught and killed at any second but Jason still really liked it. He only wished they did it more often just as a casual thing.

They'd been talking about some of the funniest ends to their cases when Jason froze, hearing footsteps and voices outside. Dick was quick to pick up on it and stopped talking too, eyes darting around. For a few seconds, the footsteps stopped too, just outside the door and one of two things could happen next. Either they'd be safe, or doomed.

As it was, they were vigilantes and vigilante luck was such that the latter happened instead.

The door was kicked in three burly men entered, guns and flashlights held up in front of them. It didn't take long for the two to be noticed.

"Shit," Jason hissed, reaching for his guns. Dick tried to get up next to him, staggering as he leaned against the wall.

The three men just grinned, enjoying the vigilantes' predicaments too much to do anything just yet but bask in the moment.

"Well, well, well," one of the men started, grinning. "What do we have here?"

"These guys are real original, huh?" Jason muttered, and despite everything, Dick snickered quietly next to him. If their situation wasn't so dire, Jason would have sent his brother a look, but he chalked it up to the painkillers and blood loss for now. He could easily shoot them all, but it was one gunman versus three, and even he wasn't quick enough to shoot them all before even one of them hit either Dick or himself.

He glanced over at his brother again and confirmed that as strong and resilient as his brother could be, he was absolutely in no position to fight or even dodge bullets. As much as he hated to admit it, Dick was a liability in this fight, but an unavoidable one. His tactical mind raced, trying to find a way out of this where they'd both make it out alive. Even making it out okay was a big ask.

It seemed the decision didn't have to be his though, and for once, their luck held out. Two figures, two all too familiar figures appeared behind the three men. Jason and Dick both instantly relaxed, and it was their turn to grin. The three men stood, oblivious. Jason almost pitied them. Not for long.

He took care of one of them with a gun - shooting a nonfatal spot - while Batman and Robin took care of the other two. The fight was over in seconds.

Even seconds seemed too long for Dick though, and Jason barely caught him before his brother's head could hit the floor as he collapsed.

"You sure took your sweet time," he said as Robin came over to help support Dick, having a whispered conversation with the oldest brother.

"There was traffic," Batman answered, looking his two oldest sons over.

"In an abandoned town? Nice try," Jason scoffed, before he smiled with relief. "Still, you made it, I suppose. Too much to ask you to help carry Dickface over here? He's not the lightest."

An offended noise came from the half-conscious man he was holding up, but Bruce took over from Damian, who frowned but reluctantly stepped away. The little guy meant well for once, but for as fierce as he was, he was still just that. A little guy.

"Robin, tell Alfred to prep the medbay," Batman ordered, and Damian obeyed after a look at and a nod from Dick.

"We're coming home."

A/n: It was longer than maybe it should have been but I couldn't find a satisfying way to end it just after the actual prompt bit was fulfilled so I hope it's still okay. Anyway, I love the Jason and Dick dynamic, even if I couldn't/didn't show it much here but they are fun to write. It's the way Dick is so everything and Jason loves him but tries to act like he's doesn't. Idk, but they're fun.

Stay safe and see ya soon.
