I felt we didn't get enough of the characters actually mourning Pentious' "death", so I wrote this fic in like, four hours.
Charlie didn't want to get out of bed. Last night was the first in over a month where she actually got a good night's rest. For most of that time she was too worried about the extermination, and for the past week everyone was focused on rebuilding the hotel. So now all Charlie wanted to do was lie in bed with Vaggie. But she knew she still had work to do, so she quietly got out of bed without Vaggie, at least one of them deserved a bit more rest.
She made sure to make her exit from the building quiet, since it seemed like everyone else was still asleep. She figured she'd go check up on the rest of Pentagram City, sure the attack was focused around the Hotel, but Charlie was doubtful none of the exorcists strayed from the intended target. It was still early in the morning, so she figured she would be able to get a good look around before coming back for breakfast.
Then she noticed a small egg sitting outside the Hotel. Frank was sitting on the ground, staring at the memorial for Sir Pentious and the other Egg Bois. Charlie suddenly felt guilty, she had been so busy with the repairs that she hadn't even talked to Frank about extermination day.
"Hey Frank" Charlie sheepishly said, "How have you been holding up?"
"Oh, I'm fine" Frank replied, not taking his eye off the portrait of his late boss and brothers. There wasn't a tear in his eyes.
Now Charlie was concerned, "Hey Frank, if you need to talk to someone, I'm here." Frank still didn't reply, so after another 20 seconds of silence she decided to head on out, but she was interrupted.
"Do you think they're in Heaven?" Frank asked.
Charlie had no idea how to respond to that. "Frank, I don't…"
"I know it's dumb" Frank interrupted, "but I like to think boss and the others are in a better place, one where everyone sees how awesome he is."
Charlie smiled, "I'm sure they're somewhere even better than Heaven".
This seemed to satisfy Frank, as he gave Charlie a smile before going back inside. But Charlie didn't move, she just stood there and stared at the portrait.
"Pentious, what the fuck is this"
The snake demon smirked at Vaggie's question. "Why is it not obvious Vagatha, this is the future of hell technology!" he said, proudly showing off a large canon to her and Charlie
Vaggie scowled "One, that is not my name, two, I told you no more weapons!"
"Oh, but it is NOT a weapon" Pentious said with a smug grin, "it is a state of the art defense system that will peacefully ensnare trespassers with a net, made of angelic steel to nullify demonic powers!"
"That's… actually not a bad design" Vaggie reluctantly admitted.
Charlie on the other hand was a lot more impressed, but still had one question she needed to ask "Sir Pentious, this was so sweet of you, but where exactly do you plan on putting this? Because wouldn't having a cannon out front might scare the people we're trying to help?"
"Oh, uh, I didn't really think that far"
"Typical, just put it in the basement we'll take it out if we actually need it" Vaggie ordered.
"Right, you heard the ladies" Pentious ordered his Egg Bois, who started to move the cannon.
"They're going the wrong direction, I better guide them" Vaggie said before chasing after them.
Charlie chuckled before turning back to Pentious, "It's nice to see how comfortable you've gotten here"
"Well, I wouldn't be staying here if it weren't for the excellent staff, and management"
"Charlie?"
Charlie snapped back to reality. Vaggie had arrived next to her. How long had she been standing here?
"Is everything alright?" her girlfriend asked with concern. Charlie only now noticed she had been crying.
"Yeah no I'm fine, I just, I…" Charlie let out a sigh and wiped her tears before sitting down on the ground. She turned and looked at the statue of Dazzle erected in the front of the hotel, and the tears came back.
"Hey Charlie, it's alright" Vaggie sat down next to Charlie and gave her a hug. Charlie returned the hug and continued to cry. "It's going to be alright"
This was my first attempt at publishing fanfiction, so polite constructive criticism is welcome.
