A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Jo looked over at Leo sleeping in the bassinet next to her. They thought it would be better for Luna to see Jo first. It was the longest she had been away from her baby girl and she knew Luna missed her. Alex told them to come in and Link smiled as he walked in with Lina in his arms. Luna smiled the second she saw Jo and started jumping up and down in Link's arms as he struggled to contain her. Jo smiled widely as Link finally just let her go as she ran over to Jo.
'Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama!' Luna signed as he ran up to the bed that was as tall as she was and tried to pull herself up before signing. 'Help, help, help!'
Luna made her demand to see Jo more insistent as Alex got up. He went around to her and picked her up before setting her on the bed, but Luna quickly wiggled out of his arms. She crawled over to Jo and wrapped her arms around her neck.
'I'm happy to see you too, Little Moon,' Jo signed to her as she held her first baby and kissed her forehead. Luna hugged her close and laid her head on Jo's shoulder. Jo sighed as she held her for a while. Luna was content in her arms and didn't let go.
'Mama, you gone a long time,' Luna signed to her, her big blue eyes looking up at her with worry.
'Mama, won't go away for that long ever again,' Jo promised her as she hugged Luna close.
'Daddy, will make sure of it, too,' Alex signed, trying to manage a smile for her, but his eyes still held a bit of sadness. She knew he had missed her most of all.
"She missed you and asked for you every day," Link said as he smiled and came over to her. "We both did."
Link managed a smile but got choked up as he sat down next to her. Tears instantly appeared in her eyes as well and she reached out for him. Link let out a shaky breath as he came around and hugged her and Luna together.
"I'm so glad you're okay," Link said quietly crying as he kissed her head.
"Me too," Jo said, feeling her emotions overtake her and her eyes water as she hugged her best friend and her daughter.
They held onto each other for a few moments longer before Link pulled back. He let out a sigh and wiped his eyes as he settled back on the bed, sitting at her hip. Although Luna wiggled around and wanted to sit in her lap. Jo's eyes went wide and sucked in a breath as Luna sat on her c-section scar. Alex was quick on his feet to carefully move Luna to the side, although Luna protested and tried to climb back into Jo's lap. Alex grabbed a stuffed animal and put it in Jo's lap as Jo held the stuffed animal and sat next to her quietly.
'You have to sit next to Mama so you can hold your baby brother, Luna,' Alex signed with a smile as he got up and picked up Leo from the bassinet.
Alex held Leo as he smiled down at him for a second, before coming down and sitting on the side of the bed. Jo moved the stuffed animal and reached out for Leo as Alex placed him in her other arm. Luna leaned forward to stare at the baby in Jo's arms.
'Luna, this is your baby brother, Leo,' Jo signed as she pulled the blanket back to reveal Leo's sleeping face. However, Luna wasn't too focused on the baby and instead just turned around and hugged Jo as she snuggled her face in the crook of her neck.
"That's okay, she'll love him soon enough," Alex said with a smile as he watched them.
"Link, this is your godson, Leo," Jo said as she offered to let Link hold him.
"I know," Link said, staring down at Leo. "I'm sorry Jo, but we've already met in the nursery."
"You did?" Jo asked as she paused.
She didn't realize that everybody had already met Leo. Even though Alex said they didn't hold him, it wasn't the same. Link reached out and grasped one of Leo's little hands as his hands wrapped around Link's large finger.
Link looked over and caught her eyes as he quickly apologized. "I'm sorry Jo, I just wanted to make sure he was okay. I didn't hold him though, and I'd like the chance to hold my godson."
"It's okay, Jo said, taking it in as she looked down at Leo.
Then she nodded at Link and he came forward to gently hold him as Jo moved the baby into his arms. She smiled as she watched her best friend hold her son. Link looked down at Leo and cooed at him as he reached out and held Leo's hand again.
"I've never had a godson before," Link said with a large smile as he looked up at her before staring down at Leo again.
"We didn't want to name anyone else," Jo said with a smile as she watched them.
Leo reached up and stretched as he opened his eyes, but the second he saw Link, he let out a squawk of protest and started to cry. Jo leaned forward to take him back before Link could even offer. She just felt the need to have her baby back the second he cried. Link completely understood and quickly handed him over. Jo quickly shushed him as she held him against her heart and pressed her lips to his forehead. Leo relaxed in her arms and opened his eyes as he sighed in contentment. She ran her fingers across his forehead, leaning down to kiss him. As she held him, Luna turned around in her lap and stared at Leo.
'Baby,' Luna signed, pointing at Leo and nearly poking his cheek.
'Yeah Luna, this is the baby that was in Mama's tummy and now your baby brother is here,' Jo explained to her before she wrapped her arm around Luna's shoulders.
'Baby brother,' Luna signed, although she messed up the sign for brother before as she pointed at Leo again.
'Yeah baby brother, Jo signed the correct sign as Luna watched her and repeated it as Jo smiled at her two babies.
'My baby,' Luna said, leaning down to gently hug him as she kissed his head.
Everybody in the room melted at how cute it was. Alex smiled very proud of his little girl. "She's going to be the best big sister."
Jo looked down at her two kids. Luna and Leo, her one boy and her one girl. If this was all she got, she was happy with them. She pulled Luna in and hugged her close as she kissed Luna's forehead, then she leaned down and kissed Leo too, giving both of her kids a squeeze. She thought about how she almost didn't get to watch Luna and Leo grow up and it brought tears to her eyes. She mourned the loss of not having another baby, but she loved her son, and her daughter, and she loved her husband. Alex could see her get choked up as she closed her eyes and he instantly came over to her.
"Are you okay Jo," Alex and Link asked at the same time, ever attentive to her. Alex sat on the bed next to her, reaching up to hold her cheek and brush away the tears that had started falling again.
"I'm fine," Jo said with a nod as she truly smiled at him. "I was just thinking about how grateful I am to be able to watch Luna grow up and to get to know this little one."
Alex moved to sit next to her and wrapped his arms around her. He didn't allow her to move, knowing that it was painful for her, and instead parched on the side of the bed. Yet, he still relaxed comfortably next to her. Jo leaned into him and he wrapped one arm around her, as her husband held her, she felt so loved.
"Why don't I take a family picture," Link said, standing up and taking a step back as he pulled out his phone.
They all smiled and Link used his little trick with Luna to get her to smile as well as he made a silly face at her. Luna giggled before he quickly snapped a few photos. He quickly texted them to Alex, who pulled out his phone. Jo looked at the photos and smiled. She still looked tired and Alex looked weary, but they both had happy smiles. Leo was sleeping peacefully and Luna's giggle could almost be heard from the photo.
Alex had the photo framed a few days later and it sat on the shelf in Leo's nursery. Whenever Luna or Leo talked about their family, they always wanted to show people that photo. Jo loved the photo as well because it was their first photo as a family of four and it was perfect.
The end.
