Chapter 3: Viridian Forest

After staying in Viridian City and stocking up on supplies, Gilbert is now traveling into the Viridian Forest. Joined by Bulbasaur and Spinarak, Gilbert has high hopes of meeting new Pokémon and further bonding with them. "I wonder what kind of Pokémon we'll meet out here. What do you guys think?" Gilbert asked. "Bulba." Bulbasaur said. "Spinarak." Spinarak said. Just then, there was a buzzing noise. "Uh oh. I know that sound." Gilbert said with worry. The 3 looked behind them, and saw a really angry Beedrill flying towards them! It raised the stinger on its tail, preparing to sting them. "Bulbasaur, quick! Use Sweet Scent!" Gilbert called. Bulbasaur released its Sweet Scent from its bulb, spreading all over Beedrill. Beedrill slowed down as it became effected by the sweetness of the smell. "PokéBall go!" Gilbert tossed a PokéBall at Beedrill. The ball hit the Poison Bee Pokémon and sucked it inside. The PokéBall landed and started shaking for a few minutes. And finally, it dinged. Gilbert picked up the PokéBall and stared at it in disbelief. "Wow. I actually caught a Beedrill." He said.

Gilbert released Beedrill from the PokéBall and rested it against a rock. "Take it easy, Beedrill. Are you okay?" He asked. "Spee. Spee." Beedrill answered, shaking its head. "What's wrong?" Gilbert asked. "Spee." Beedrill showed them why it was so angry. There was a burn mark on its side. "A burn? Where did that come from? Was that what was making you so mad?" Gilbert asked. He then reached into his bag and pulled out a Burn Heal. He sprayed it on Beedrill's burn and applied a bandage. "There we go. Now all you need now is some rest." He said. "Bulba." Bulbasaur agreed. "Spin." Spinarak agreed. "Spee." Beedrill blushed. "But how did you get that burn to begin with? Fire-type Pokémon don't normally live in this forest. Could someone had done that in attempt to catch you?" Gilbert asked, thinking about who would use a Fire-type to try and catch Beedrill.

"HEY!" A voice shouted. Gilbert turned to see a thuggish looking guy coming out from the trees with a Blaziken beside him. "What're you doing catching my Beedrill?!" The guy asked rudely. "Spee!" Beedrill whimpered as it hid behind Gilbert. "Your Beedrill? So, you're the one who attacked Beedrill. Your Blaziken inflicted Beedrill with a burn." Gilbert deduced. "Wow. What do you know? Smarter than you look." The guy said. Gilbert felt insulted by this. "Anyway, the name's Jimbo and I'm looking to become the greatest trainer in all of the world. And to do this, I'm going to catch the toughest Pokémon I can find. I was going for that Beedrill, but Blaziken's burn scared it off. Thus, our little meeting." Jimbo explained. "But since you managed to catch this Beedrill first, I see it was a waste of my time. I'm off to find a better Beedrill. Get in my way again and I won't be so charming." Jimbo walked away. Blaziken just stared at Gilbert for a few more seconds. "Blaziken! Let's go!" Jimbo shouted. "Blaze." Blaziken walked off to follow its trainer. "Spee." Beedrill sighed with relief. "What a jerk. But don't let him get to you, Beedrill. Let's all set up camp for tonight and have a nice dinner." Gilbert said. "Bulba!" "Spinarak!" Bulbasaur and Spinarak cheered. "Spee?" Beedrill was confused.

Gilbert and his team set up camp for the night and Gilbert started making dinner. He had given his Pokémon their food. Bulbasaur and Spinarak happily ate, but Beedrill was hesitant. Gilbert noticed this. "You okay, Beedrill?" He asked. "Spee?" Beedrill asked. "There's no need to look so shy. We're all friends here." Gilbert assured. Beedrill looked at Gilbert, then at its food. It picked up a piece and ate it. It enjoyed the taste and happily began eating the rest. "That's it. I'm so happy you're enjoying it, Beedrill." Gilbert said. Then he remembered his Pokédex. He took it out and scanned Beedrill.

Beedrill, the Poison Bee Pokémon. The evolved form of Kakuna. A Bug and Poison-type. Beedrill live in huge swarms, using their poison filled needles to capture prey. Approach with extreme caution when dealing with a Beedrill swarm.

"Wow. I must say, Beedrill, from what I've noticed after catching you and meeting Jimbo, you seemed rather timid." Gilbert said. "Spee." Beedrill sighed sadly. "But that's okay. I understand that you feel that way. But I promise, we'll work through that together if you want to come with us." Gilbert said. "Bulba." "Spin." Bulbasaur and Spinarak agreed. "Spee." Beedrill look at them with interest.

Just then, a Hoothoot flew down to their camp, catching the scent of Gilbert's cooking. It then started sniffing the food. Gilbert scanned Hoothoot with his Pokédex.

Hoothoot, the Owl Pokémon. A Normal and Flying-type. It stands on one foot at a time to track prey, using their eyes to find things throughout the darkness of night.

"You hungry there, Hoothoot?" Gilbert asked. "Hoot?" Hoothoot asked. Gilbert brought out an extra bowl and poured in some food for Hoothoot. "Go on. Eat." He said, setting the bowl down. Hoothoot started eating, loving the taste. After a minute, Hoothoot had finished and lay on its back, sighing, fully stuffed. "Better? Feeling full?" Gilbert asked. "Hoot! Hoot! Hoothoot!" Hoothoot hooted. "Great. Say, how'd you like to come with us on our journey?" Gilbert asked. "Hoot. Hoothoot." Hoothoot hooted and nodded. Gilbert held out a PokéBall and Hoothoot tapped the button with its beak, letting itself into the ball. The PokéBall shook for a minute and dinged. "Alright! We got Hoothoot!" Gilbert cheered. "Bulba!" "Spin!" Bulbasaur and Spinarak cheered. "Spee." Beedrill watched with impression.

As morning hit the forest, Gilbert and his team were on the road once again. Hoothoot was nestled on Gilbert's shoulder napping, being a nocturnal type of Pokémon. Beedrill flew beside Gilbert with Bulbasaur and Spinarak below. "So, Beedrill, have you considered my offer from last night?" Gilbert asked. "Spee." Beedrill nodded. "Like I promised, we'll all get stronger by working together and understanding each other." Gilbert said. "Spee!" Beedrill said, happily tackling Gilbert to the ground and hugging him. Bulbasaur, Spinarak and Hoothoot joined in as they all laughed happily.
