CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO
Happy Teller Tuesday; even if it is Wednesday where I live. Only mini-drama in this chapter…but the storm is brewing.
I barely wake up when Jax's alarm goes off, only stirring to turn mine off when he throws the blankets off his legs and stands up.
The bed dips as he leans down to kiss my forehead "Love you babe. I'll tell you what's going on when I get back."
I nod, barely awake enough to hear the sound of a quiet knock at the door and Hap's voice whispering "AK's are ready bro, vests are in the truck."
6 hours after they left Donna is pacing while a couple of the out of town old ladies are looking after the kids, the group of them playing with Doj and on the swings while I try and keep Donna from wearing a hole in the floor.
"D! Enough! Ope will shit a brick if he realises how stressed you are right now. It's not good for you."
Donna falls into the seat beside me as Gemma's gaze turns curious and she walks towards us. "Uh oh. Incoming Gem-warfare."
Donna shrugs once, dropping her head onto her arms "I wanted Ope here but nows as good a time as any to tell her."
"Tell who what?" Gemma asks quietly, pulling the seat out on the other side of Donna and waving off the offer of coffee "I swear if one more person offers me coffee in the next 5 minutes I'm going to shoot someone."
Donna groans "Coffee. Oh how I miss it." Sitting up she glances at me and winks "And I'll have to continue missing it for another 8 months or so."
Gemma turns slowly, her eyes calculating as she examines Donna eventually tilting her head slightly "Am I going to have another grandbaby?"
Donna nods "We found out while we were in New York."
"And I'm only just being told now. You've been back for weeks. And known for longer." Gemma folds her arms and starts tapping her foot.
Donna swallows "Well, Ope and I wanted to tell you all at the same time, but with everything that's been going on there just hasn't been a spare second. The only patches that know are those that were with us and Piney."
Gemma smiles widely and I instantly feel sorry for Donna who looks oblivious "So I get to throw a baby shower." It's not a question and I tap Donna's foot when she starts to answer, her head nodding instead.
"One condition though Gem. It has to be at the new house, and not till next year. Much closer to my due date."
"Which is?"
Donna shrugs "First week of May. No going overboard Gem." Turning to look at me she grins "You either."
Gemma nods, leaning into Donna's side "I love you sweetheart." Giving her a tight hug.
Donna nods against Gemma's shoulder "I know Gem. Love you too."
Gemma sits up again, swiping her hand at her eye and shaking her head "Damn allergies." Laughing softly she looks between Donna and I "Love the man…"
"Love the club." Donna and I both reply. Donna grabs Gemma's hand and squeezes it once "Already do Gem. S told me often enough your words of wisdom, and she's right. The old ladies, we're the glue that holds this club together, we're all one huge family."
"Dysfunctional, insane, melodramatic, emotional, violent, overprotective, committed, passionate, loyal family." I say with a giggle as they both nod.
The door opens and the Reno prospect sticks his head in looking around the room till his eyes land on one of the only patches left. Hurrying to Chibs' side they have a whispered conversation before Chibs gets to his feet and all but runs out of the room, pulling a large black bag with him when he comes back through, a frown on his face.
Stopping by our table he holds out a hand as the prospect comes past holding two more identical bags "Keys."
Gemma opens her mouth to say something but I point towards the bar "Hanging on the bottle opener." The pair of them are gone with a flurry of movement and the other prospect that had been outside on the picnic table moves into through the door, dropping his behind into the seat right inside the door as the group of women and children that were outside file through the door.
Gemma makes a movement like she's going to stand up but both Donna and I reach over and grab her hand "Gem. Don't."
Gemma narrows her eyes and then sighs, leaning back into her chair "But those are his medical bags. He doesn't take them unless something happened."
Donna looks over at me, that information obviously not having reached her brain "Gem, Chibs wouldn't have told you what happened, I doubt the poor prospect on guard duty knows what happened. We'll find out when Chibs comes back."
The next three hours pass excruciatingly slowly, for all of us. The plate of sandwiches and fruit that's put in the middle of the table by the same croweater who kept offering Gemma coffee is ignored, until Gemma growls at Donna to eat something, for the sake of her future grandchild, Donna ends up picking at a cheese sandwich while I nibble slowly on an apple slice, Kenny and Ellie at the next table over with the other few kids that have fallen under the Sons protection all colouring in.
It's almost a relief to me at 4 when Abel starts fussing and I leave the room with him, placing him in the cot and curling into a ball on the bed I allow my own worries to come to the forefront of my brain. The concern that someone is seriously injured, or worse, makes my blood freeze in my veins, but knowing that the guys all have each other's backs and Chibs has his (though limited) medical training helps me relax enough to fall into a light sleep.
Its dark when I wake up again, Abel stirs a little in his sleep as the light from the hall floods into the room "Baby, you awake?"
Sitting up slowly I rub my eyes "Yeah Gem. What's wrong?"
"Al needs you."
Jumping to my feet I snatch the baby monitor from the table and head towards the door, shoving my feet in the shoes just by the door "What happened?"
"Juice got shot."
