Hanging On The Edge Ch 35

The next few months flew by and soon Penelope was 38 weeks pregnant and ohhhhhh so ready to give birth, she loved being pregnant but she was ready to meet her son or daughter and the sooner the better. Well she was about to get her wish, it was a rainy afternoon and she was tired, she had been on maternity leave for a little over a week and bored to tears so Reid brought JJ and Henry over to casa Morgan for a visit to try to cheer her up.

Penelope was talking to JJ when she suddenly grabbed her stomach, JJ said, "you alright Garcie?", Penelope said, "yeah, yeah it's nothing, Reid walked closer and said, "you're 38 weeks pregnant, you could be going into labor". Penelope waved that thought away and said, "nahhhhh, that's not it, surely that's not it", she was then hit with the urge to go to the bathroom so she stood up and took one step away from the table when it happened.

She grabbed the table and said, "ohhhh nooooo", JJ and Reid were at her side in seconds, Reid said, "what's wrong?", Penelope looked down at the puddle of bloody liquid at her feet and said, "my water just broke". Reid said, "okayyyy, Jayje, I need for you to get the kit out of the closet for me, the one we packed and got ready just in case she went into labor at home".

JJ walked over to the closet and pulled out the kit, she then handed it to her husband, Penelope said, "Derek, we need to call Derek", JJ said, "on it" as she grabbed her cell from her pocket and headed through the house to check on her sleeping son. Derek was doing his last day at rescue and was only a few miles away at the station, he was laughing with his buddies when his cell started ringing.

He said, "Morgan", JJ said, "Derek, you need to get home", Derek stood up and said, "why, what's wrong?", JJ said, "Penelope's water broke", Derek said, "are you taking her to the hospital?", JJ walked back into the living room and said, "Spence do we have time to get her to the ER?", he shook his head and said, "nope, she's fully dilated and I can see the head, we're not going anywhere".

Derek said, "I'm on my way", after the call ended he looked at his friends and said, "sorry boys, gotta go baby girl is in labor", the men smiled at him and said, "be careful man and congratulations", the happy man smiled as he ran from the station and hopped into his truck and raced toward home.

Penelope was on the couch, JJ was behind her for support and Reid was in front of her helping her, JJ said, "the medics and Derek are on the way so they should be here soon". Penelope nodded her head and then was hit with a sharp contraction, she grabbed JJ's hand and squeezed it as she pushed, she didn't stop pushing until Reid said, "good and rest Garcia, rest".

She relaxed against her friend and said, "what if I'm not a good mom, what if I can't do this?", Reid said, "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard you say Garcia, of course you're going to be a great mother and yes you can do this". Penelope smiled at Reid and said, "I love you boy wonderrrrrrrrr" as another contraction hit, she pushed and pushed until Reid told her to rest, she collapsed against JJ and said, "thank you for being here with me today Jayje".

JJ said, "of course, you're my sister and there is no other place that I'd rather be", when JJ had gone to call Derek she had sent a text to the rest of the family letting them know what was going on. Everybody arrived at the house around the same time that Derek did and ran inside to see Reid, Penelope and JJ busy working on bringing the next generation of Morgans into the world.

Derek dropped down beside her on the floor and said, "I'm here baby girl, I'm here", she looked up at him and said, "I love you", he said, "and I love you", she collapsed at the contraction ended. Reid said, "alright Garcia, on the next contraction you're going to deliver the rest of the baby", she nodded her head and said, "ohhhhh I'm so ready, I'm soooooo ready".

Fran was a nurse and had been one for years and she was there helping Reid, she had everything ready for when the baby was delivered, she had the scissors, blanket to wrap him in and something to clean him or her off with. Finally the contraction hit and she squeezed Derek's hand and pushedddddd until she heard the cry of her child fill the room, she then collapsed tiredly against her best friend and allowed the tears to fall.

Reid cut the cord and handed the baby to Fran to clean up a little, she then held the baby up and said, "congratulations mommy and daddy it's a boy", Derek looked at Penelope and said, "did you hear that sweetness, it's a boy, it's a boy". Penelope grinned and said, "I heard, I heard", Fran said, "here you go mommy, hold your little angel" as she laid the crying newborn into his mommy's arms for the first time.

Derek looked down at his wife and son and couldn't help but smile, everybody gathered around the newest member and smiled, he was an adorable little boy who was a shade lighter than Derek and a shade darker then Penelope so he was the perfect combination of them both.

As the family stood there together they could hear the ambulance siren in the distance, Penelope smiled as she looked up at her husband and said, "look what we did", Derek kissed first her and then their son on the top of the head and said, "he's perfect, purely perfect", everybody nodded their heads yes in agreement as they all then stepped back to allow EMS to do their jobs and get mother and son ready for transport to the hospital.
