Disclaimer: I don't own The Worst Witch.

A/N: This is the first thing i have written in ages. And it's not angst — which for me is highly irregular. So please enjoy some rare fluff.

One Single Thread

If the students of Cackle's Academy could see her now, she knew they would never have believed it. Truthfully, Hecate Hardbroom didn't quite believe it herself. But the reality was quickly reinforced as the elastic she had been holding suddenly snapped, sending her beads scattering to the floor for what must have been the umpteenth time that afternoon.

Relaxing, Pippa had told her; it was meant to be relaxing. As her long nails once again struggled to grasp the tiny spheres of plastic that were soon to be lost in the pile of the carpet, Hecate surmised that they clearly had very different ideas surrounding the definition of "relaxing".

Stealing a glance at her girlfriend who was happily weaving ever intricate patterns of varying colours and designs as she quietly sang along to the music playing in the background, Hecate Hardbroom also surmised that there was no one else in the entire world she would be willing to do this for.

No one.

With a sigh, she measured a fresh piece of elastic and started again.

The witch knew that if she had used magic, she could have made at least one hundred by now — possibly more if she was to really concentrate. As things currently stood though, she had made one. Sort of. And she wasn't sure who its incredibly small size was even meant to fit!

Morgana, possibly?

Not that Morgana would thank her for such a present. In fact, the haughty cat would probably see it more as some form of torture.

Much like her mistress was finding this "relaxing" Sunday afternoon activity to be. But Pippa had told her that it was a seemingly essential part of planning for the sold-out concert they were to be attending in a few months' time, and the Hardbroom never had been able to refuse Pippa Pentangle and her frankly ridiculous requests. Not when they were children, and somehow even less so now.

Hecate had always known she was in love with her childhood best friend, but never had she imagined that the feelings could be mutual. It had taken decades of heartache, years of estrangement, and a lot of talking, but finally fate had brought them together.

Fate had given them a first date.

An anniversary.

A place to call their own.

Yet she still worried she would lose it all in the blink of an eye …

'Tah-dah!'

Pippa's angelic voice broke through the horrific imaginary scenarios that gleefully ran through her mind like water. The blonde smiled proudly as she held out her hand to show off her latest handiwork.

The words "Hiccup"'and "Pipsqueak" had been carefully intertwined through two separate strands of elastic. The black and pink beads complemented each other perfectly as they were offset by various charms displaying moments of their very own story.

'Not strictly relevant for the concert, I know. Although it's still technically a 'Love Story,' Pippa joked, winking cheekily. 'May I?'

Whilst the pun may have gone clear over Hecate's head, the gesture certainly did not. Slowly, she extended her wrist.

'It fits!' Pippa clapped her hands as she practically squealed with excitement. 'Now, I don't know about you, darling, but this is proving rather hungry work! So I'm going to go make us a little snack, okay?' Dropping a gentle kiss on her girlfriend's lips, she left the room. But not before first swearing that she would absolutely not mess up their tidy kitchen. Again.

As she waited, hoping her girlfriend was not in there ruining her best cooking pot, Hecate looked from her wrist to the table, and then back again. She smiled tearily, before her eyes hardened in a steely determination.

When Pippa and the food returned, a simple beaded bracelet was waiting for her.

The elastic had been stretched and weakened so much it was now more like invisible string than anything else. But she barely noticed.

For there, lovingly arranged and joined together by a single thread of faint gold, were the words "you" and "me".

A/N: I started making my friendship bracelets for The Eras Tour over the weekend there. I have made six thus far. So I've a while to go yet haha. Anyway, that has inspired this little ficlet in the early hours of the morning. Also, Hecate is absolutely a folklore/evermore girlie, and I will die on that hill.
