Chapter 1
Colonel Jack O'Neill found it odd that Major Samantha Carter was spending much time with Master Sergeant Walter Harriman. He walked into the commissary and eyed the pair sitting at the table in some kind of cahoots. He gathered his lunch and soon made his way to the table were the pair sat in some kind of secret meeting.
"Campers!" Jack greeted and then took a seat. He noticed Sam had closed the notebook the two were looking at just moments prior.
"Sir." Sam gave a warm and yet annoyed smile.
Walter stated, "Sir!"
"What ya doing?" he pointed towards the book.
Sam and Walter traded glances.
Jack grew alarmed. "What are you two up too?"
She let out a sigh and then opened the top secret note book. Sam explained, "Walter and I brought a chopper to fly at air shows. We are restoring it."
Jack looked at the pair surprised. "You two bought a chopper together?" He then looked down at the notebook and the sketches of the high tech aircraft. "Airwolf?" he asked as he cocked his head. "Hey! I saw that thing flying back when I was a Captain on patrol."
Sam grew excited. "You saw it flying back in the 80's? It was a top secret attack helicopter the CIA contracted. It's the only chopper to this day that had a jet engine. It could reach mach one."
Jack asked, "What are you two going to do with it?"
"We are going to restore it and fly it at air shows." she repeated. "I'm going to be the pilot and Walter is the engineer."
Jack asked, "Why?"
She stated, "For the fun of it."
Walter added, "We're also gonna sell t-shirts and make it into a little side business."
"Why?" he asked again.
Sam smirked, "You got your cabin and your fishless pond and me and Walter got Airwolf for our down time."
Walter added, "I got a hold of Caitlin O'Shannessy from the original crew. She lives in Texas and says she would love to help us get Airwolf in the air again. She told me that the inventor died, Stringfellow Hawke. He died in a bad car accident. She also told me that the original engineer, Dominic Santini was murdered when a bomb was planted in another chopper. The first crew flew missions for the CIA. She's also willing to help us too."
"I would love to meet her in person." Sam agreed. "She could really give us some insights since we got so little records on the chopper."
Walter stated, "She's willing to fly to Colorado Springs and help us."
"That would be great." Sam exclaimed excited.
Jack felt a bit left out. "I can help you two out on your little project too. I know how to fly choppers."
She asked, "With a jet engine?"
"I can figure it out." he insisted.
Walter stated, "Caitlin did say that not everyone could fly Airwolf. The transition from blade to jet is a bit tricky. She couldn't do it and she flew choppers for the police department. Stringfellow Hawke could fly it and so could his brother, Saint John."
Sam wondered, "Is the brother still alive?"
Walter nodded, "He is! Saint John Hawke. He flew the chopper for one year before it was decommissioned. He's also suspicious of his brother's death. He doesn't think it was an accident either. I brought up records for both Saint John and Stringfellow. Both were in Vietnam. Saint John was a POW. Both had Special Forces training and both were chopper pilots."
Sam asked, "Have you talked to the brother yet?"
"I'm going to call him today." Walter reported.
"See if he would be willing to come out here too." she suggested.
"I will ask." he assured.
Jack sat and puckered, "Soo…where is this chopper you two are hiding from us?"
Walter stated, "It's in an old hangar we rented."
"Can I see it?" Jack asked.
Walter looked to Sam as the pair debated.
Sam stated, "It's okay with me if it's okay with you, Walter."
Jack reminded her. "You out rank him."
"He owns half." she rebutted. "Walter and I are equal partners in Airwolf."
Walter stated, "The Colonel can see it."
"Thank you." Jack replied.
Hangar
Jack grabbed Teal'c and headed out to see Sam's newest project located in an old hangar outside of town. Sporting civilian clothing the men disembarked from the large black pickup truck. Jack noticed a number of cars parked near the hangar. He looked to Teal'c, "Looks like a party."
The Jaffa cocked an eyebrow, "Indeed."
They entered the hangar and soon found Sam with Walter and an audience. In the middle of the hangar sat the body of an old chopper. It was slick and painted black with a gray underbody. The jet engines were concealed near the top of the fuselage. He noticed guns and a small missile launcher were also exposed.
"Carter!" Jack called as he walked closer. "Harriman."
Sporting blue jeans and a leather jacket over a gray sweat shirt, Sam grinned as Jack entered with Teal'c in tow. She introduced the group. "Sir! I would like you to meet Airwolf's old crew. Saint John Hawke, Jo Santini and Caitlin O'Shannessy. Everyone, meet Colonel O'Neill and our friend Teal'c."
Saint John "Sinjin" Hawke stepped forward. He was about the same height as Jack, had dark brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a leather flight jacket with jeans and a button down blue shirt. He offered a hand. "Please to meet you, Colonel."
"Pleasure is mine. You got by Saint John or John or…?" he wondered.
"Sinjin." he told him.
"Interesting name." he noted.
"I had interesting parents." he informed. "This is my wife, Jo." he mentioned.
Jo Santini was a woman about Sam's height and weight. She had blonde hair and blue eyes and wore a leather jacket with jeans. She offered a handshake. "Pleasure to meet you, Colonel."
"Nice to meet you too." he stated. He then looked at Caitlin. She too was nearly Sam's highest and weight and had blonde hair, blue eyes and dressed in a leather flight jacket with blue jeans. "You must be Caitlin."
"I am!" he held out a hand as well, "Caitlin O'Shannessy."
Jack took note. "You thee could pass as sisters." He looked to Teal'c.
The Jaffa had to agree. "Indeed."
Sam reminded him. "I dye my hair."
Jo confessed, "So do I."
Caitlin confessed, "Mine was more red when I was younger. I started getting more gray so I dye it nowadays." She looked at Sam and Jo, "But we could pass off as sisters. Hey! I got an idea. Us three girls should fly Airwolf in shows."
Sam was all for it. "That sounds like fun."
Sinjin asked, "You three girls fly Airwolf while me and Walter man to sales booth?"
Sam cheered, "Sounds good to me."
He shook his head.
Jack asked, "You three are going to help Carter and Harriman in the shows?"
Sam stated, "They want in on the project. We're going to incorporate Airwolf, make her a living museum and go around to do air shows."
Jack asked, "Can I help?" he just wanted to fly the chopper.
Sam confirmed, "You and Teal'c can both help. But Walter is your boss of the shows. He's the primary owner. He put the most money in the project and has done all the legal work."
Jack looked at the lowly airman. "You're the boss?"
"That's right, sir." he agreed.
"Does Hammond know about this little shin dig you got going?" he asked.
Walter stated, "He knows. He wants to help too."
"He wants to fly the chopper." Jack figured.
"He does." Walter confirmed.
Sam added, "So does my dad." She then confessed, "Only one who could care less is Daniel."
Jack remarked, "Daniel is not pilot. Why would he care?"
"Airwolf has an interesting history and I thought Daniel might be interested in that aspect." she confessed. "Every time I try to tell him about it he kind of just blows it off." she reported a bit down.
Jack defended, "Unless the chopper can speak 28 languages and is from Ancient Egypt, he's not gonna care."
Sinjin Hawke stated, "Sounds like someone my brother would gotten along with."
"I wish I could have met him." Sam confessed. "He built Airwolf. This is genius level work."
"My brother was a genius." he insisted. "I wish I could find to honor him. He kept Airwolf from the FIRM to force them to look for me. I owe him that."
Caitlin soothed, "After losing Dom and that injury, he just wasn't the same."
"That was no accident." he shook his head.
"We can't prove it was sabotage." Caitlin countered. "I miss him too and I would do anything to get String and Dom back. Just we can't go to past and fix things though I know everyone wishes they could. All we can do is go forward."
"I know." he agreed. He looked upon the old defunct bird, "We can make Airwolf a living memorial to Dom and String."
"I like that idea." Jo agreed. "My uncle called her 'The Lady'. I think Dom would like that."
Walter agreed, "I can have their names painted in the rear of the fuselage in memory."
Sinjin became grateful. "Thank you so much for doing that, Walter."
"It's my honor." he agreed. "I know there are people we would save if we could too." he glanced at Sam, Jack and Teal'c.
"I would save my mother." Sam confessed.
Teal'c admitted, "I would save my father."
Jack didn't say a word. He just closed his eyes for a moment for a parent's grief is just too much to bear at times. He gave a nod and then walked over to the chopper. "So, let's check this old bird out."
Sam sucked in a deep breath. "Right!" She walked over to show Jack the helicopter.
All eyes fell on Walter.
"The Colonel lost his son." he explained. "He was only eight."
Sinjin closed his eyes for just a moment, "Damn."
Caitlin sniffed back a tear. "There is no grief like that of a parent who lost a child."
"I cannot imagine going through that." Jo agreed.
Walter softly stated. "Let's get to work."
