"Eddie Diaz?" Tim Bradford looks at the 118 firefighters. Eddie turns around.
"Sargent Bradford? How are you?" Eddie goes up and greets the man. Tim smiles. The last time he saw Eddie was his last tour in Afghanistan. Eddie's scanning him for any injuries.
"I'm not hurt. I'm here to arrest your victim," He says, and Eddie nods.
"Diaz, I need you to help Buckley with the evacts," Captain Nash calls out. Eddie presses the radio.
"Copy that, Cap. It's good seeing you, Sir," Eddie nods to help Buckley. Tim smiles.
"Sir?" Nolan's question makes Tim sigh.
"I was one of his commanding officers in Afghanistan. Great medic," Tim says. Nolan looks to see how young Eddie looks.
"He's young," Nolan says, making Tim nod. Nolan is a great officer but a better father. He's very fatherly when he wants to be.
"He's in his late twenties, early thirties," Tim says. Nolan has that gentle, soft, fatherly look on him.
"He must've been in his late teens to join," He says. Tim thinks about that. Eddie was very mature when they first met, but for him to be in his late teens. That's rough.
"He's a good man," Tim says. Nolan smiles.
A month later, Tim sees Eddie again; this time, Eddie's with Buckley, and Tim's with Lopez.
"Fancy seeing you here, Diaz," Tim says, and Eddie smiles.
"How are you doing, Sir," Eddie says, making Buck nudge him. Lopez looks at Tim.
"Tim, Eddie. Not in the Army anymore," Tim says, and Eddie sighs.
"Sorry," Eddie says, making Tim laugh.
"It's okay. How are you? When did you come back?" Tim asks. Eddie flinches a little, making the three notices.
"Eds?" Buckley asks softly.
"A year ago," Eddie says. Tim inhales.
"I'm sorry. Here's my number. Don't be afraid to use it," Tim orders. Lopez smiles at the younger man. Eddie smiles and nods.
"Thank you," Eddie says and feels Buckley beside him.
A year later, it was Buckley who called Tim. The man drove to the house with Nolan. Both men were on duty. They see the door open, but the house is destroyed. Tim sees a hurt Eddie and smiles softly.
"Eddie?" Tim asks gently. Eddie sobs into him, and Nolan goes to comfort him. Tim lets Nolan comfort Eddie while Tim sees Eddie's phone. Mills, Nowhale, their chief, and Bender are all dead. No one told him. Buckley comes in and sees the two officers.
"What happened?" Buckley asks them.
"Some of his teammates died, and no one told him," Tim says to Eddie's partner. After that day on, Tim, Nolan, and Lopez would check in with Eddie. Buckley stays with him. It was hard, but Eddie got better. Lopez and Eddie did MMA together, Nolan got Eddie to help with his house, and Tim is a person that Eddie talks to. Buckley is his partner.
