Stow-on-Side

*Tick Tock*

*Tick Tock*

"Almost time!"

Gym Leader Bea screams in her head, as she watches the nearby clock on the Gym wall reach the next hour. With the day just about to reach the evening time, the stadium here at Stow-on-Side is about to switch over from Bea's Fighting Gym, to Allister's Ghost Gym. From the outside, the stadium doesn't look any different while this happens. But inside, the color scheme changes from light and orange, to dark and purple. This mutual agreement between the two Gym Leaders is helpful, as Allister is more comfortable at night, and allows challengers to pick whichever Gym Leader they prefer.

Bea's been looking forward to this time, as she does every day. Normally, one might think that Bea, being a student in school, would prefer to be the Gym Leader in the evening, and be in school during the day. But she has opted to have her classes in the evening. One reason, again being Allister, but the other, has to deal with the reason why she's so eager for her shift to be over.

One word - Sweets!

Bea loves her sweets. Few know this secret. The only store in Stow-on-side that sells the sweets she so desperately craves is only open after she starts working, staying open through the day, and closes soon after she gets done being the Gym Leader. The Street Market nearby is pretty unreliable as well. And Bea would feel like she would abandoning her job every time she ran off to get a snack. Instead, she keeps busy during the day training. But what she's going to purchase later on, would always on the back of her mind. Bea also likes to have those treats since the sugar helps her stay alert for school.

So it would be an awful shame if something were to ruin her plans. Like, say-

A Gym Trainer then runs up to Bea, snapping her out of her thoughts of desserts. "Sorry Bea, a last second challenger has shown up!"

Bea's pupils dilate, as she begins to panic in her head, "No,no,no,no,no!" But then she tries to remain poised. Clearing her throat, and trying not to look upset, she then asks Allister, who's nearby watching, "Sorry Allister, can you take this one? It is just about time for you to start anyway..."

With shallow, creepy breathing, the boy shook his head, "Darkness hasn't approached yet..." Bea stares at him. He must be the type where you have to get to know him first in order to understand him.

Seeing as Allister wasn't budging though, Bea feels like complaining. Defeated, Bea tries to maintain her composure. Tightening the bow on her gym uniform, she replies, "F-fine. Let's get this over with." Inside her head though, "Maybe I can crush this challenger quickly..."

Quickly couldn't come quick enough. The challenger, a boy named Victor, had trouble navigating the maze en route to Bea. If only the gym could have been more straightforward, then maybe he wouldn't have taken so long. Oddly enough, Victor felt as if someone was glaring at him the whole time, making him nervous, and mistake prone.

Minute after agonizing minute passed before finally Victor stood in front of Bea. He then laughs, "Ha ha! Those cups were something else!" Victor then flinches, seeing the death-glare Bea has for him.

Bea tried to welcome Victor normally, but he could feel like something was off. This became even more apparent during their battle. It was like she was distracted, not giving her all in the battle. And Bea recognized that she had allowed this too. So partway through the battle, Bea apologized, determined to do her best for the rest of the contest.

Her new plan? "Let's just destroy everything!"

But it would be too little, too late. Victor gets the victory, while Bea feels disappointed that she let her sweet tooth get the best of her. The two then meet in the center of the arena, and shake hands, Bea awarding Victor with his very own Fighting Badge. She mutters to herself quietly, "That loss makes me want to run off in my bare feet..." She composes herself, tightening the bow on her uniform, and bows. "If you'll excuse me..." Pivoting, she takes off, bare-footed!

Victor blinks, watching Bea vanish. He then mutters, "What a strange girl..."

- A few minutes later -

Bea's set the world record for changing clothes. She's no longer dressed in her gym uniform, but instead her white top and black skirt casual school clothes. She can now be seen racing to a certain sweets store. "Almost there, I think I made it just in time!" She's practically drooling, having a hard time deciding what she's going to sink her teeth into first.

Having reached her destination, Bea smiles wide... and walks into the store.

No, literally.

*Thud!*

The front door's locked. Rubbing her forehead, Bea laughs uncomfortably, "Ha ha, that's weird. Let's try that again."

Again, no luck.

*Rattle rattle*

"Eh?"

Trying again and again, Bea is repeatedly denied access to the store. With growing frustration, she is on the verge of screaming, "Let me in!" But Bea wouldn't want to cause a scene. It takes a few moments, but she then calms down long enough to see a note on the door's window. Trembling, Bea shakily reaches out to read it:

Unfortunately, we are closing early today, due to running out of our stock.

Thank you all for your business!

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The worst timeline has happened. Where will Bea get her sweet fix now? And speaking of her, some kind of wailing scream can be heard coming from around her area:

"Noooo!"

- A little while later -

Victor's happily humming as he walks through the streets of Stow-on-Side. After admiring his shiny new badge, he snaps it into place in his badge ring. "Four down, four to go!" He is soon interrupted though, by a certain sound.

*Bang...*

*Bang...*

*Bang...*

*Bang...*

Investigating, Victor soon finds the source of the steady, dull thud noise: Bea. She's standing in front of the town's only sweets store, banging her head on the front door of the store.

Throwing caution into the wind, Victor calls out, "Oi, are you o-"

Bea snaps back at him, "I am not okay!"

"Well, obviously."

Bea groans, hanging her head. Sugar withdrawal can be tough. She really needed a pick-me-up after the tough loss, and then a little something extra to help her with the exam-cramming that she needs to prepare for.

Victor joins her, noticing the note on the front door. Reading it, he then laughs, "Oh, maybe this is about me!"

Bea shakes visibly, "...WHAT?"

Not reading the situation properly, Victor continues, "Yeah, I came here before going to your Gym. I bought up a bunch of their stuff, since I didn't know if I'd be able to make it back here in time afterwards!" Victor likes to celebrate after each Gym victory by having a cookout with his Pokémon, as thanks for all their hard work.

His next mistake was to keep laughing about it, as if it was hilarious. Realizing that many of her problems today have been caused by Victor, Bea first confirms something. With a dark shadow over her face, she asks, "So this was your doing?"

"Yup!"

That's all she needed to hear.

Victor's now surprised to see Bea advancing on him, affected by the lack of sugar in her diet lately. Shuffling slowly to Victor, arms reaching for him, Victor then laughs, "I don't get what's wrong, or why you're acting like Allister, but you sure are a strange one!"

Someone call the coppers, there's going to be blood spilled this day!

- A few moments later -

Victor was saved by Bea's stomach unexpectedly growling. Hearing that, he then offered to treat Bea to a meal. There aren't any parks in Stow-on-Side for them to relax at, so they go to the nearby Glimwood Tangle to get away and relax, without too many prying eyes. Soon, Victor was set up, and now scurrying around to prepare different treats. Bea watched him, impressed by how he handled the food, and his professionalism. While she wouldn't consider herself to be a gourmet by any means, she did have standards, not just any snack will do. But judging by the heavenly scent, and the wild Pokémon that have now gathered around, everything would probably have to taste good. Still...

Noticing the look on Bea's face, Victor smiled, "Don't worry, I take pride in my cooking abilities."

"Be that as it may be," Bea said, talking with her eyes closed, "I think you may be a bit young to think that you're skills can rival some of places I've-"

*Mphp!*

Bea wasn't looking, and so she didn't see Victor coming at her with a spoonful sample of what he was cooking. He popped it right into Bea's mouth, cutting off her comments.

*Gulp!*

"..."

"Well?"

All of the Pokémon around the pair watched on with bated breath as well, eager to hear her reaction.

The look of unbridled pure joy that spread out over Bea's face told Victor more than any words she could muster, but she did let out a indescribable, audible sigh of approval. With sheer glee on her face, Bea could only grip her face with her hands, and stare off into space, with sparkles in her eyes. "What is this slice of heaven?!"

Victor chuckled, then turned back to finishing his cooking, "I'm glad you enjoyed it."

When it came time to eat, all of the nearby Pokémon found that Bea can be a force to reckon with, as she insisted on having first dibs on everything Victor was putting out.

Finally satiated, Bea had one thing to say to Victor:

"Be my personal chef!"

"Eh?!"

There we go, fun pair to write about!

I might continue this, as I have a few ideas.

Let me know what you think of this!
