AN: This scene includes talks of assault and very paternal Elliot
"Shut the fuck up! You have no idea what that shit can do! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" Olivia put her pen down and ran towards the source of the screaming. She slammed open the door to the break room and saw Sophia, the newest member of the SVU squad crouched down and covering herself pitifully. The poor kid was surrounded by some cops who had come in to help them with a very severe case at the local high school, at first Olivia thought that they were helping Sophia but she soon quickly realised that wasn't the case.
"Suck it up rookie, grow up. You're pathetic! You should just..." The older Detective didn't get a chance to finish his sentence before Olivia grabbed him by the back of his shirt, her protective instincts going into overdrive. The poor kid didn't need this; it had only been 4 months since she'd lost her mother and she'd been struggling so much since it had happened. Olivia was getting angrier and angrier, especially when she could hear Sophia's loud sobs.
"Back off... now!" Olivia snarled, pushing the man away from Sophia and standing between the two. She heard the door open and was relieved to see Elliot who had clearly heard all the commotion and screaming. Seeing the look on his face and Sophia's, she lowered her voice and spoke softly and gently so as not to frighten her youngest Detective.
"El... we're fine. Can you get Sophia out of here and take her to my office? Make her a drink and get her something with sugar in please!" She watched fondly as Elliot scooped Sophia up off of the floor and allowed her to bury into his chest. It was funny, Olivia had become the squad 'mom' and Elliot had become the squad 'dad' the two of them were very protective of their little work family.
"Come on rookie, it's alright..." Elliot had soothed affectionately, picking her up into his arms and allowing her to sob on his shoulder. Olivia had waited until the two had left the room before turning back to the five other Detectives, all of whom had been much bigger than Sophia.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Olivia snarled, glancing around at the ring leader who had been in the poor kid's face. How dare he upset her cub?! How dare he upset one of her own! Olivia tapped her foot impatiently and waited for a response, she waited for a while before speaking again.
"How dare you speak to her in that way, bullying a 25 year old rookie! I bet you feel brave don't you! Well, let's see you try that shit again! Now, tell me what the hell is going on!" She looked around again, her eyes locking on one of the Detectives who looked slightly uncomfortable.
"Well... Detective Sanchez started acting funny, when we got to the school and interviewed the victim! It mainly started when we found out that the victim had been tied to the pole on the football field... she got very tearful and had to leave the room!" He began, wilting a little under Olivia's glare.
"So let me get this straight, you all knew that something was wrong with my Detective and not one of you thought to tell me or help her in anyway?" She glared as they tried to justify themselves, blatantly lying to her face.
"Well clearly you didn't help otherwise I wouldn't have walked in on her crouched down and in tears on the floor! Get out of my precinct! I'll be speaking to your commanding officer!" Olivia glared, she was so angry! These were Detectives in their 40's and 50's and not one of them thought to help a distressed younger officer. She watched as the 5 men left and followed behind them, making sure they actually left her precinct. Now all she needed to do was help her rookie.
An hour or so later, Olivia walked into her office and grinned slightly at the exchange between Sophia and Elliot. She had her head on Elliot's shoulder, a cup of hot cocoa in one hand and her other hand was gripping the back of his shirt.
"It's ok... it's ok you're safe! Mama and daddy.. uh I mean Olivia and I are going to help you through this ok? You have nothing to be embarrassed about, do you understand?" Elliot cooed, using his paternal voice that he would normally reserve for his own children. He pulled her in close and kissed the top of her head, helping her to drink the hot, sweet drink. Elliot looked up and smiled slightly, very gently dislodging himself from Sophia's vice grip.
"Hey, Liv's here now. You're going to be alright now!" He gently kissed her forehead again before standing up and sharing a knowing look with his best friend; it was always them who were the parents of the squad! Olivia bent down in front of her and tilted her chin up.
"What was all that about Sophia... I didn't think you even knew how to curse!" She joked and gently brushed her knuckles over the younger woman's cheek. Sophia cracked a small smile and dried her tears with some tissues that Olivia had quickly handed to her.
"Olivia... I'm so sorry that I caused a scene like that I'm mortified..." She began and Olivia gently sat down beside her, wrapping a motherly arm around her tiny frame. She frowned slightly; Sophia had lost weight in the last few months and she didn't have the weight to lose in the first place. She felt Sophia rest her head on her chest and grip her shirt like she had done to Elliot only moments before.
"Shhh... don't apologise. I can see that something or someone has clearly upset you! Now, what's going on?" Olivia cooed, using her most maternal voice and allowing Sophia to crawl onto her lap and began to hold her close. She stroked her hair and tucked the younger woman's head under her chin, just keeping her safe and calm until she was ready to talk.
"I... I.. can't 'livia!" Sophia burst into tears and Olivia hugged her even tighter, cradling her like a small child against her chest. She was healing that inner little girl who didn't always have a mom, who'd had to go through life without feeling safe and who'd been hurt so many times.
"Yes you can, my love! You can do this... you've had to be brave for so long, but not anymore! I'm here... I've got you and I'm not leaving you, never ever!" She nuzzled her nose against the younger Detective's and wiped her tears with her thumb, her poor baby.
"When I was... when I was in high school, I didn't have an easy time of it. I was very severely bullied; I was overweight, I wore glasses... I hadn't discovered hair products! I was an easy target!" Sophia laughed bitterly and Olivia frowned, clearly not finding humour in what Sophia was saying.
"Not to mention, my mom was drunk or high most of the time and my dad... well! I barely knew where he was... at least with my mom I knew where I stood but dad would show up and make all these promises and then he'd leave me again!" Sophia's voice cracked and she leaned all her weight against Olivia and Olivia rocked her back and forth.
"It's ok shh... shh.." Olivia whispered softly, a knot forming in her stomach. She knew that they'd not even scratched the surface here, god she wanted to go and find every single one of the bastards who hurt her baby.
"Now then, kiddo! What is it about this case? We've had so many high school cases with bullying... different assaults... what is it about this case?" She pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose, Sophia leaned her head in so that it rested against her boss's.
"It was April 3rd 2013 when it happened... this boy that I liked asked me to meet him on the field after school. His name was James and he was captain of the basketball team, I should've known better! I should've known that it was a trap..." Sophia began to tremble in Olivia's arms and Olivia hugged her tighter, whispering sweet nothings in her ear.
"I walked down to the field and he was there... he was there alright. Along with the whole high school... his friends grabbed me and tied me to a pole, they ripped my shirt off and..." She let out a small wail and clung to Olivia's shirt. Olivia tucked the younger woman's head under her chin and just rocked her back and forth, giving her the courage to continue.
"They all stood there and laughed at me, James he took off my trousers and he... he... raped me in front of the whole school and no one did a damn thing to help me! They all watched and laughed... for hours and hours... I was there for hours by the time I got free. I walked home with no clothes on because he ripped them all off and the worst part was... mom had been drinking and didn't know I was gone!" Sophia sobbed pitifully and Olivia hugged her tight, just allowing her to scream and cry.
"When I was at my old high school for this case, it just bought all the memories back! All the pain, the embarrassment, the fear... they filmed it Liv! It went viral and I never got away from it... never!" Sophia wept anxiously and Olivia picked her up and walked around the room with her.
"I am so sorry that this happened to you... I am so sorry, sweet girl. I've got you... I'm here! You're safe now... you have so many people who love you. You've got me, Elliot, Nick, Fin, Carisi, Alex, Casey and Rafael... you have a family who love you and care about you!" Olivia let the kid cry for everything that had been taken from her on that horrific day.
"It hurts... it hurts so bad! I just wanted my mom and dad! I just wanted my mom and dad!" Sophia cried out like she was still that 15 year old girl and it tore on Olivia's heart strings. She so wished that she could go back in time and protect her from this, then she got an idea.
"Come on, love. Let's go home! Come on!" She soothed and wrapped a motherly arm around her shoulders and walked out of her office with her. All the other Detectives had gone home apart from Elliot, clearly he had been just as worried about her.
"She ok?" He mouthed, his body shaking with anger when Olivia had shook her head and had mouthed the gist of what had happened to the rookie who had stolen a piece of his heart. He had stood up and gathered his things, not wanting to leave his best friend and the rookie who'd wormed her way into his heart.
"Come on, I'll drive!" Elliot spoke softly and Olivia smiled, she could always count on his support through everything. Sophia was so upset and traumatised that she didn't even register his presence, Olivia spoke to her soothingly.
"You're safe honey... I'm here, so is Elliot and we're right here by your side!" Olivia cooed, the pair of them protecting Sophia from prying eyes and walking to Elliot's car. Olivia placed Sophia in the backseat and sat in the back with her when Sophia clung to her shirt. Elliot got into the drivers seat and began to drive, they were going to show her just how her parents should've reacted when she came home on that dreadful night.
Once they had gotten out of the car at Olivia's apartment, they had both helped get Sophia into the warmth. She was shaking like a leaf and clinging onto Olivia for dear life. She had smiled adoringly at the younger woman and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead.
"Would you like to take a hot shower honey? Elliot and I will make a nice hot cocoa with marshmallows. Does that sound good? I'll get you some pyjamas sorted..." Olivia ushered Sophia into the bedroom and into the en-suite, grabbing her a fresh towel and some pyjamas that she then placed on the bed.
"If you need me, then just shout and I'll come running ok?" Olivia said softly, brushing a stray hair behind Sophia's ear. Olivia grew angry when she heard the poor kid's next words.
"I still smell him on me... all the time! I feel dirty... I can't!" Sophia clung to Olivia tightly and she soothed the young woman, rocking her back and forth and kissing her head.
"You are not dirty! You are not in the wrong here ok? He is... I'll find him and I'll kill him for this!" Olivia said softly, staying with her until she was calmer and ready to be left alone. Once Sophia was in the shower, Olivia came out into the kitchen and got out some cups, banging them hard on the counter when she thought about everything that had been taken from her baby. Elliot grasped her hand and soothed her, gently heating up some milk and pouring it over the cocoa powder.
"Calm down Liv, it's ok. We are going to be there for her now! We couldn't fix it back then but, we can now!" Elliot pressed a platonic kiss to her head and spoke soothingly, trying to reign his best friend in; he didn't want to scare the poor kid after she had trusted them.
"It just makes me so angry El... no one had that kid's back, no one fought for her! They filmed her assault El... they tied her to a damn pole for goodness sake and left her there for hours!" Olivia's throat burned and Elliot's eyes filled with tears which he quickly blinked away. He made the drinks and Olivia made a quick macaroni and cheese; they all needed their strength over the next few days.
By the time Olivia had made the meal and portioned it out, Sophia was out of the shower and dressed. Her pyjamas were hanging off her thin frame and made her look even younger, which in turn made the two older adults more protective of her. Olivia dolloped a huge amount of the cheesy pasta onto Sophia's plate and carried it into the lounge where they were going to eat.
"There we go... eat up!" Olivia gave her the once over and Elliot grinned; she was so motherly and protective that no wonder the whole squad felt safe with her. They all ate in a comfortable silence, it was nice. This felt nice and Sophia felt safe, which in turn led to her finishing the meal and crawling onto Olivia's lap, stretching herself across Elliot's too.
"Good girl!" Olivia praised, seeing the way Sophia had eaten the dinner and drank the hot cocoa. This was a start. Olivia began to rock her back and forth, pressing soothing kisses to her forehead and cheek.
"I was scared..." Sophia admitted pitifully and Elliot's heart clenched; it made him think of his own children and how he'd feel if this happened to one of them. He reached behind him and tucked her up so that she was snuggled in between them which only made Sophia grow tearful.
"I just needed mama and daddy!!" Sophia sobbed pitifully, turning into that 15 year old child again. Olivia looked at Elliot and bit her lip slightly, wandering if she was doing the right thing.
"Mama and daddy are here, honey! Mama and daddy aren't going anywhere!" She cooed and Sophia glanced up, a small smile on her face and she began to speak making both Olivia and Elliot well up with tears.
"Could I call you that please? Can I call you mama and daddy? It's just...no one else has made me feel so safe and well..." she blushed and the two put all her doubts to rest.
"We would be honoured, sweetheart!" Olivia said softly and kissed her cheek, gently brushing her tears away with her thumb and Elliot nodded, soothingly stroking her hair.
"I'd be honoured to be your dad!" He choked out and the two older adults squashed her into a hug, from that moment on, Olivia and Elliot were Sophia's 'mama' and 'daddy'.
