Xion didn't really know what to do as she looked at the sign. She somewhat knew what a "day off" meant. So, she didn't have anything to do today.
She told Roxas she was gonna go practice with her Keyblade. It wasn't a lie at first. She did go train for an hour or so. The problem was that it got boring after a while, and it felt like a waste to spend what could be her only day off training like always.
She tried to stop by the Moogle that hung around the meeting room to restock, but it seemed even he was taking the day off.
So she thought of where to go and what to do. She could head to Twilight Town and get her usual Ice Cream, but it was too early for that.
Then a single thought entered her mind.
I wonder if Wonka's chocolate is as good as Charlie says?
Her mind made up, she summoned up a dark portal and left for The Chocolate Factory.
It had taken, frankly, far too long to find a candy store in the world. It seemed that even though she had the day off, Heartless were still sprouting everywhere. She also had to keep a low profile. Organization members were supposed to be unseen unless it was absolutely necessary, and Xion had been spotted multiple times already in this one world.
Fittingly, she almost immediately ran into Charlie Bucket.
Charlie seemed to perk up after seeing her.
"Nice to see you again, Miss Exterminator!" Charlie said with a grin. Xion had to smile at that.
"Nice to see you again, Charlie," Xion responded. Screw Saix and his dumb rules, Xion thought. Today was her day off. She was gonna talk to Charlie. "So, how have you been?"
"Alright", Charlie said. "I see you bought some of Wonka's".
"I wanted to see if they were as good as they said," Xion said. "And I got some for my friends back home. Want to share one?" Charlie looked bashful for a moment, and nodded his head. Xion split one of her bars in half, and gave the other half to Charlie.
As she bit into her half, she immediately understood why Charlie loved the chocolate so much.
It was really the best candy she had ever tasted. Charlie smiled at her reaction.
"I knew you'd love it!" He exclaimed. Xion gave him a beaming smile.
They chatted for a few hours. Charlie told her about his family and showed her new ideas that he was thinking up in what he called his "inventing notebook". Xion told about some of the stranger events that had happened to her and Roxas while "exterminating", while keeping the really sensitive details out. Charlie looked at her Keyblade.
"So is that a kind of sword?" Charlie asked. Xion nodded. It was true enough. Charlie looked inquisitive for a moment, and then turned towards her.
"Can I draw you?" He asked, taking Xion by surprise. "It's just, I need to practice my drawing skills for my inventions and you're really pretty and SUPER cool and —" Xion cut him off, smiling.
"Of course," Xion responded. It was weird sitting perfectly still as he drew. She had never thought of herself as particularly pretty, she didn't think she was that cool, at least not compared to Roxas. And there was that nagging feeling, that she didn't deserve any praise, as if she was just an imposter, a fake…
"Done!" Charlie exclaimed, snapping Xion out of her dark thoughts. She looked at the drawing.
"It really is amazing!" Xion exclaimed. It was really good, and Xion had to admit it did make her look pretty.
A clock rang throughout the distance.
"Time for me to head home then," Charlie sighed. Xion smiled sadly.
"Stay safe," She told him. Charlie nodded, and ran off.
It was probably time for Xion to head to Twilight Town and share the chocolate she had bought with Roxas and Axel. But just before she got up to leave, she heard a voice ring out.
"Thank you." It was the mysterious tramp. To be frank, Xion was pretty sure already that he was Wonka, but felt it best to keep that to herself for now. The tramp looked towards her. How long had he been there?
"Too many dismiss him and his cleverness," he said. "Thank you for at least showing interest in what he's doing." He sat next to her. "Not very busy today, I guess?"
"Had a day off," Xion responded. His face became clouded with an unreadable expression.
"How many have you had?" He asked. Xion shook her head.
"This was my first one." His face remained unreadable, but she definitely could tell he was concerned about something.
"How old are you?" He asked. Xion was taken aback. She didn't know how old she was. She didn't remember anything about life before the organization. She heard him suck in a worried breath, and realized she had voiced her thoughts out loud.
"Please be careful Xion. Please." He whispered and with that, he was gone.
Xion wasn't quite sure what had happened, but she was left with some puzzling questions as she left the world.
He watched as she left through what seemed to be a dark portal, and he was left with some troubling thoughts.
Xion couldn't have been older than 15 at the most. Same with her friend, though he had not seen him enough to gather an opinion of him. But still, children.
This "organization" (he frankly was convinced that it was a cult) was using children for their dirty work. And yes, the threat of the Heartless was real, but that made things worse. The other members he had seen in that same dark coat had mostly been adults. And they had not fought the Heartless to the same extent Xion and her friend had.
And add to the fact Xion didn't remember life before working for them or even how old she was horrified him.
This entire situation truly and utterly broke Willy Wonka's heart.
