From high atop the cliff that overlooked Port Royal, the sound of drums filled the air. Glorious day or not, there was to be a hanging. Standing in front of a noose, keeping his appointment with the hangman, stood Jack Sparrow with his hands tied infront of him, grimly awaiting his fate. Below him in the courtyard of Fort Charles were several Royal Officers, Marines, and the townspeople of Port Royal, here to witness the hanging. Devon, Sora, Donald, Goofy, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, Stormfly, Fishlegs, Meatlug, Snotlout, Hookfang, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Barf and Belch were in attendance for the hanging as well. Up on the gallows, the Town Clerk unfurls a scroll and glumly announced the death sentence and the numerous crimes committed by the notorious pirate.
"Jack Sparrow..." The Town Clerk announces
Jack sighed and rolled his eyes as he heard himself being referred without his title.
"Captain. Captain Jack Sparrow." Jack mutters quietly
"Be it known that you have been charged, tried and convicted for your willful commission of crime against the Crown, said crimes being numerous in quantity and sinister in nature, the most egregious of these to be cited herewith: piracy, smuggling, falsification of Letters of Marque and Reprisal..." The Town Clerk announces
As everyone stood around in the courtyard, one man moved his way through the crowd of townspeople. It was Will Turner, who had been granted clemency even after engaging in piracy. He was wearing a brown hat folded in on the left-side with a gray ostrich feather on the same side, a red cape, a brown vest over a white shirt with bishop sleeves, dark gray pants, light gray knee-high socks and brown buckled shoes. Will Turner gazed up at Jack as he stood up on the gallows, then glances back over his left-shoulder towards the back of the courtyard.
Decked out in their finest, Commodore Norrington, Governor Swann and Elizabeth Swann stood on a platform a few steps above the crowd. Since their return to Port Royal, Elizabeth had gone through the motions of being the Commodore's fiancée. But that did not mean she agreed with his actions. For better or worse, Jack Sparrow had helped her and the man she truly loved. To see him die at the end of a noose seemed an affront.
"This is wrong." Elizabeth says
"Commodore Norrington is bound by the law. As are we all." Weatherby says
Everyone continued to listen to the Town Clerk as he continues with the list of Jack Sparrow's crimes.
"...impersonating an officer of the Spanish Royal Navy, impersonating a cleric of the Church of England..." The Town Clerk announces
Jack couldn't help but smile as he remembers some of the crimes mentioned. He looks over at the executioner, who stood alongside him, and his smile fades.
"...sailing under false colors, arson, kidnapping, looting, poaching, brigandage, pilfering, depravity, depredation and general lawlessness." The Town Clerk announces
During the hanging, a familiar blue and gold macaw parrot flew into the courtyard and landed on a flagpole, held by Mullroy as he and Murtogg stood guard. Will Turner noticed the feathered creature as it cawed loudly and recognized it as Cotton's parrot. Turning around to his left, he made his way through the crowd to the back of the courtyard just as the town clerk finished reading Jack's penalty.
"And for these crimes, you have been sentenced to be, on this day, hung by the neck until dead. May God have mercy on your soul." The Town Clerk announces
Will Turner approached Weatherby Swann, Commodore Norrington, and Elizabeth as they stood together and greeted them in turn.
"Governor Swann. Commodore. Elizabeth." Will says
The young man kept his gaze on the woman he loved as he spoke to her.
"I should have told you every day from the moment I met you. I love you." Will says
Governor Swann and Commodore Norrington glanced over at Elizabeth on their left, surprised by what they heard from the young blacksmith. Elizabeth herself stood, shocked. She felt her heart begin to race. But before she could respond, Will turns around to his right and disappears into the crowd. At the same time, the drum roll began as the noose was placed around Jack's neck. Luna, Toothless, and Stormfly glanced over to their right, as did Devon, Sora, Hiccup, Astrid, and Elizabeth, and they saw a familiar parrot fly away from a flagpole. With a knowing look, Elizabeth waited for what was to come. Norrington realized what Will Turner was about to do and prepared to call his men.
"Marines." Norrington calls
Before Norrington could send his men to stop Will, Elizabeth breathed quickly and pretended to faint.
"I can't breathe!" Elizabeth says
Elizabeth falls to the ground, distracting Norrington and Governor Swann as they turn their attention toward her.
"Elizabeth!" Weatherby exclaims
Devon, Sora, and the others looked over on their right at Commodore Norrington and Governor Swann as they tended to Elizabeth, then looked over at Will Turner as he continued towards the gallows.
"Come on!" Devon says
Eager to help save Jack Sparrow from his fate, the two Keyblade Wielders and their companions head down to lend their aid to Will Turner. As he continued pushing his way to the front, Will pulls back his cape, revealing two swords that hung on either side of his belt. This caused the townspeople to panic and scream. On the gallows, the executioner walks over to a lever and grabs hold of it with his right-hand as he prepared to execute Jack Sparrow.
"Move!" Will shouts
Eventually, Will Turner passes the last of the townspeople and reaches the gallows. At the same time, Weatherby Swann was fanning his daughter with his hat when she sat back up to see what was happening. The executioner pulls back on the lever and Jack Sparrow falls through a hole in the wooden floor. And just as Jack began to fall, Will throws the sword in his right-hand straight at the folded panel, imbedding it deep into the wood below the gallow's hole. Jack was now standing on the flat side of the blade, stopping the noose from tightening around his neck. Governor Swann stared at Elizabeth as her ruse was revealed and could only sigh in disbelief, while Norrington and his men charged to stop the rescue attempt.
Leaping up the stairs of the gallows, Will Turner pulls out his other sword and clashes with the executioner, who fought with a mighty, two-handed axe. Eventually, after exchanging blows back and forth, Will's sword was knocked out of his hand by the executioner's brute strength, leaving him unarmed. But before the executioner could hit Will with his axe, Luna leaps up onto the gallows and catches the weapon with her teeth, biting down on the long wooden handle. The large man wrestles with the female Night Fury as he pulled to free his axe from her strong grip.
Down in the courtyard, Sora, Donald, and Goofy fought with their weapons, and Spyro, Cynder, Toothless and the other dragons fought with headbutts, wing slaps, and tail swipes as they all worked together to keep the Royal Marines away from the gallows. Even Hiccup, Astrid, and the gang helped as they punched, kicked, shoved, and wrestled the redcoats. While everyone else kept the British soldiers at bay, Devon summons his Keyblade: Soul Calibur, leaps up onto the gallows and swings the crystal blade into the rope that hung Jack Sparrow by his neck, cutting him free.
After a while of struggling against the executioner, Luna manages to wrestle the axe out of his hands and throws the weapon away to the left, then slams her tail into his stomach, causing him to lurch forward. Devon and Will Turner grab the executioner by each side of his arms and throws him off the gallows and into the crowd, to Norrington and his men in particular. Beneath the gallows, Jack quickly ran his ropes over the sword still stuck in the wood, freeing his hands, and took off across the courtyard. As Devon and Will somersaulted down from the gallows, Jack took the other end of the rope he been hanging from moments ago and threw it to Will, while the Keyblade Wielder and his Night Fury dragoness went to help their friends.
Together, the pair headed for the parapet side of Fort Charles, using the rope as a weapon as they went. Six marines ran toward the two heroes, but fell as the odd pair ducked and weaved, knocking the redcoats down and over with their long rope pulled taut. Two more marines ran from the parapet to engage them, but Will and Jack pulled the soldiers in and knocked them out against the stone pillar that lined the fort. The duo somersaulted out onto the ledge that lined the cliff and they soon found themselves surrounded by more than a dozen marines, cutlasses drawn, and muskets aimed at them. Spinning around, Will Turner and Jack Sparrow looked for a way out, but it was too late. And as Jack blew Will's hat feather out of his face, Commodore Norrington approached with his sword drawn.
"I thought we might have to endure some manner of ill-conceived escape attempt. But not from you." Norrington says
Devon, Sora, Donald, Goofy, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, Stormfly, Fishlegs, Meatlug, Snotlout, Hookfang, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Barf and Belch, and Elizabeth make their way past the Royal Marines to the parapet just as Governor Swann joins Norrington's side, disappointed by Will Turner's actions.
"On our return to Port Royal, I granted you clemency. And this is how you thank me? By throwing in your lot with him? He's a pirate!" Weatherby says
"And a good man." Will says
Will Turner throws his sword down onto the stone balcony, while Jack Sparrow nodded and pointed a finger at himself, as if to emphasize the point.
"If all I have achieved here is that the hangman will earn two pairs of boots instead of one, so be it. At least my conscience will be clear." Will says
"You forget your place, Turner." Norrington says stepping closer with a menacing glare
"It's right here, between you and Jack." Will says
And to Commodore Norrington and the Governor's surprise and shock, Elizabeth Swann walks over and stands alongside Will Turner, taking her place beside him with her left-hand resting on his arm.
"As is mine." Elizabeth says
Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann looked at each other lovingly for a moment, then turn back to face Commodore Norrington, Governor Swann, and the Royal Marines.
"Elizabeth." Weatherby gasps
Then, one-by-one, the world-travelers step forward and take their place alongside Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann, beginning with Devon first as he walks up and moves infront of them, sliding Norrington's sword away with Soul Calibur.
"And mine." Devon says
Sora steps up next and stands next to his best friend on his right, joined by Donald and Goofy.
"And mine." Sora says
"Hmm!" Donald and Goofy grunt in unison, nodding their heads in agreement.
Luna walks over and takes her place by her beloved rider, sitting down on her haunches and curling her tail around him.
"And mine." Luna says
Spyro and Cynder walk forward and make their stand infront of Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
"Same for us." Spyro says
"Yeah." Cynder says nodding her head in agreement
Finally, Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, Tuffnut and Ruffnut step forward with their dragons and take their place alongside the group.
"And us too." Hiccup says crossing his arms
Toothless sat down on his haunches beside the left of his rider and let out a snort through his throat and smoke his nostrils. Governor Swann looked over the group as they all stood together, defending Jack Sparrow. Sighing in defeat by the opposition, he ordered the soldiers to stand down.
"Lower your weapons. For goodness' sake, put them down!" Weatherby says
Obeying the Governor's authority, all of the marines stood down, sheathing their swords and lifting their muskets away from the group.
"So, this is where your heart truly lies, then?" Norrington asks
"It is." Elizabeth says
In that moment, a flash of color drew Jack's attention away from the unfolding drama. Looking up, he noticed Cotton's parrot as it was perched on top of a cannon until it flew away from the fort. Sensing time was of the essence, Jack tiptoed around the right side of the group.
"Well, I'm actually feeling rather good about this." Jack says
The pirate made his way over to Governor Swann and got all up in his space.
"I think we've all arrived at a very special place, eh? Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically." Jack says
Sliding over to the left, Jack spoke to Norrington next.
"I want you to know that I was rooting for you, mate. Know that." Jack says pointing to the Commodore with his left and right index finger
After saying that, Jack Sparrow turns around to his left and walks past the group toward the back of the parapet. Before going up the steps, he turns to Elizabeth Swann.
"Elizabeth." Jack says
Elizabeth turns around to face Jack as he spoke to her.
"It would never have worked out between us, darling. I'm sorry." Jack says
The young woman stared at the pirate, slightly shocked and surprised by his words. Jack turns and takes three steps up the parapet before turning back to the group again.
"Will." Jack says
Will and Elizabeth both turn around to face Jack. The pirate captain stares at the duo for a couple seconds before commenting on Will Turner's apparel.
"Nice hat." Jack says
Finally, Jack turns to Devon and Sora.
"Devon, Sora." Jack says
The two young teens and their companions gaze up at pirate captain, eager to hear what he had to say about them.
"Keep up the good fight." Jack says smiling
Sora smiles with a chuckle, while Devon nods his head with confidence. Jack Sparrow continues up the parapet and jumps up onto the rim of the fort's wall before turning to face everyone.
"Friends! This is the day that you will always remember as the day that y-" Jack says holding up his hands
Jack's dramatic speech was interrupted as he trips and falls backwards over the cliff. Everyone ran up to the ledge and looked down, watching the pirate as he plummeted head over feet into the waters of the harbor, landing with a splash.
"Idiot. He's nowhere to go but back to the noose." Gillette says smiling
Despite the fall, Jack Sparrow sputters to the surface, gasping for air. Back up at the fort, a Royal Marine spots something approaching from the sea.
"Sail ho!" Marine #1 shouts pointing out with his left index finger
Everyone shifts their gaze toward the horizon, and they saw a familiar ship sailing into the bay from around the tall green mountain of Port Royal. It was the Black Pearl. Her sails were no longer tattered, and her sides gleamed in the light of the sun. Grinning with a smile, Jack Sparrow began swimming toward his ship. Back atop the cliff, while looking out at the pirate ship, Gillette urgently spoke to his Commodore.
"What's your plan of action?" Gillette asks
Norrington stood silent, contemplating this sudden turn of events.
"Sir?" Gillette asks
Governor Swann looked over at Commodore Norrington and offered him some piece of advice.
"Perhaps, on the rare occasion pursuing the right course of action demands an act of piracy. Piracy itself can be the right course?" Weatherby says
For a moment, Norrington smiled at the Governor's words, then he called for Will Turner.
"Mr. Turner." Norrington says
Will turned to face the Royal Marines, but Elizabeth grabbed his right-hand, worried for him. He looked back at her and insisted that he had to take responsibility for his act of piracy.
"I will accept the consequences of my actions." Will says
And so, Will Turner dragged his attention away from Elizabeth and took a step down as he faced Commodore Norrington and his men, ready to accept his punishment. Devon, Sora and their friends stared at Will, then looked over at Norrington, worried of what might happen next. The Commodore calmly draws his sword, the same blade that had been given to him at his coronation ceremony several days prior and holds it up vertically straight.
"This is a beautiful sword. I would expect the man who made it to show the same care and devotion in every aspect of his life." Norrington says
Will smiled. This was the first time he was shown any recognition for his work. Devon, Sora, and their friends smiled as well, relieved that Will Turner was forgiven.
"Thank you." Will says
Norrington and his men turned to leave when Gillette called out to him.
"Commodore! What about Sparrow?" Gillette asks
Norrington's eyes glanced down for a moment before he looked up at his lieutenant, giving him his response.
"Oh, I think we can afford to give him one day's head start." Norrington says smiling
And having said that, Commodore Norrington turned and left with his soldiers. The group watched as the Royal Marines went on their way, then they all turned to Elizabeth and Will as they gazed into each other's eyes. Governor Swann saw how happy his daughter was and sighed. It wasn't the life he had wanted for her, but he realized that she was headstrong and beyond his control.
"So, this is the path you've chosen, is it? After all, he is a blacksmith." Weatherby says
"No." Elizabeth says
Elizabeth gently eases off Will's hat with her right-hand, keeping her gaze on him.
"He's a pirate." Elizabeth says with a proud smile
Leaning forward, Will Turner pulled Elizabeth Swann closer and there, high above the crystal blue waters, the two lovers finally shared a long, lingering kiss. Devon, Sora, Donald, Goofy, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, the Viking Teens and their dragons watched the romantic scene with happy smiles on their faces, while Governor Swann stepped down and took his leave with a smile of his own.
"Good for them." Sora says casually putting his hands behind his head
"Uh-huh." Goofy says nodding his head
As they watched Will and Elizabeth share their passionate kiss, Goofy turns to Sora on his right and notices something going on with Sora's face.
"Hey, Sora, how come your face is all red?" Goofy asks pointing at Sora with his right finger
"What? It is not red!" Sora says embarrassingly waving his right-hand infront of him and covering his face with his left-hand
"Aww... I know who you're thinking about." Donald says smiling
Sora continued to cover his face, while everyone else chuckled and laughed with humor. Even the dragons were laughing at the funny moment, like Toothless, who chuckled with his dragon voice.
Out at sea, Jack Sparrow swam up to the Black Pearl, approaching her starboard side, and Cotton, the mute pirate who was up on the rat line, throws out a rope to him.
"Heave!" A sailor shouts
Five crew members pull the rope over their shoulders with some slight help from Marty the Dwarf, though he was lifted off his feet due to his diminutive size, and they haul their captain out of the water. Jack holds onto the rope with both hands as he is lifted up several feet from the sea and was soon set down onto the quarterdeck, where he is greeted by his first mate, Joshamee Gibbs.
"Weren't you supposed to keep to the Code?" Jack asks
"We figured they were more actual... guidelines." Gibbs says smiling
Gibbs extends his right-hand down to his pirate comrade, who gladly took hold of it, and pulls him up to his feet. Then, Cotton steps forward with Jack's tricorne hat in his hands as an offering to him.
"Thank you." Jack says
The Pirate Captain takes his hat from the mute pirate and places it back on his head.
"Captain Sparrow." A female voice calls
Jack looks over to his left at Anamaria as she leaned her left-side against the helm. The dark-skinned smuggler walks over to him and gives him his coat, placing it around his shoulders.
"The Black Pearl is yours." Anamaria says
Jack walks over to the ship's helm and runs his right-hand along the wheel, feeling good and right in his hands. He smiled, enjoying the moment until he noticed the crew watching him, then shifted to 'Captain' mode.
"On deck, you scabrous dogs! Hands to braces! Let go and haul to run free!" Jack commands
The Motley Crew scattered down to the main deck and went on to carry out their tasks. Now alone at the wheel, Captain Jack Sparrow pulled out his compass and holds it up in his right-hand.
"Now... bring me that horizon." Jack says
Suddenly, the compass emits a brief flash of light, catching Jack Sparrow by surprise.
"Huh?" Jack says
The sudden flash also caught the attention of Gibbs and the crew as they looked over in surprise, pausing from their tasks onboard the ship. Next, the compass begins to glow with light, and it slowly floats upwards from Jack's hand into the air, while everyone watches in awe and stunned amazement.
At the same time, up on the parapet of Fort Charles, the Celestial Ring on Devon's finger starts to glow brighter with its blue light, drawing everyone's attention. Then, Soul Calibur appears in his right-hand, also glowing brightly in reaction to the light given off by Jack's compass. Devon glances down at his glowing crystal Keyblade as it appears in his hand, then he and his friends gaze out at the Pearl, seeing the light of Jack's compass on the ship. He turns to his friends and stares at them for a moment, then nods his head with a calm, determined expression before facing forward and taking hold of his crystal Keyblade with both hands.
A ball of light forms on the tip of Soul Calibur, followed by a crown of light, which appears directly beneath his feet. Light from the crown gusts upward, whipping up Devon's clothes, and the environment of Fort Charles changes, transporting Devon, Sora, their friends, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner into a corridor of light. Jack's compass shoots up a golden beam of light into the sky and the Keyhole appears with a golden outline and torrents of light flowing inside. Devon performs a small leap backwards and spins Soul Calibur around his body four times with his right-hand before aiming at the Keyhole. A blue halo ring forms at the tip of the crystal Keyblade and a beam of light shoots out toward the Keyhole, striking it. The Keyhole shines brightly with a blinding light, and everyone is transported back to the parapet of Fort Charles. The group stares up at the blue sky in wonder until Sora looks over at Donald on his right.
"You know, for a minute there, I was afraid we were gonna lose Donald to the curse of the treasure." Sora says
"Yup, me too." Goofy says pointing to himself with his left finger
"What?!" Donald exclaims angrily throwing his arms down and leaning towards Sora and Goofy
Everyone laughs at the joke.
"Devon, Sora, everyone, thank you for all you've done for us." Will says
"Yes. We're truly grateful." Elizabeth says nodding her head
Devon smiles and nods his head.
"Happy we could help. Now, we have our own adventure to go on." Devon says glancing back at his friends over his right-side
"Yeah. We still have to find Riku and Kairi." Sora says
"And the King!" Donald says
"Plus, we have some unfinished business with Organization XIII." Luna says
"Well, good luck on your adventure." Will says
"Hope to see you again soon." Elizabeth says
Devon gives Will and Elizabeth a thumbs up with his right-hand
"You can count on it." Devon says
After saying that, the Keyblade Wielder turns around to his left and walks over to his faithful Night Fury dragoness. Throwing his right-leg over, he mounts onto her saddle. The Viking Teens mount their dragons as well, along with Sora, Donald, and Goofy as they ride with Hiccup, Astrid, and Fishlegs on Toothless, Stormfly, and Meatlug. Before taking off, Devon glances over at Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann once more, seeing the smiles on their faces. As he stared at them, something inside told him that there would be plenty of adventures for them in the future. Devon gives the duo one last smile and a nod before turning back towards the sea.
Ready to continue their adventure, Devon, Sora, Donald, Goofy, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, Stormfly, Fishlegs, Meatlug, Snotlout, Hookfang, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, and Barf and Belch take off from the stone balcony and into the air. During their flight, they all gaze down at the Black Pearl floating in the bay of Port Royal, knowing that Captain Jack Sparrow was onboard with his crew. And just like with Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, Devon felt that their paths would cross again for another adventure. Soon, the group of heroes fly off and vanish into the horizon with Luna and Toothless both letting out a happy roar.
Onboard the Black Pearl, Jack Sparrow watched the world-travelers as they flew out into the distance, then looked down at his compass, humming the pirate shanty.
"And really bad eggs..." Jack hums
As he gazed down at his compass, the pirate noticed that the arrow was pointing toward the southeast, the same direction that Devon, Sora, and their friends went. Jack turned his gaze toward the sea and smiled.
"Drink up, me hearties, yo-ho!" Jack hums
Setting a new course, Captain Jack Sparrow closes his compass and spins the helm to the left, sailing his ship across the turquoise waves of the Caribbean for new adventures on the high seas.
While everyone was off on their adventures, back on Isla de Muerta, a sour green apple floated in the waters of the Treasure Cave. Nearby, the dead body of Captain Hector Barbossa still rested against the pile of treasure, untouched from his spot. Jack the Monkey swims into the large cave and heads for the ancient stone chest that contained the 882 Aztec gold coins. Eventually, he leaps out of the water and climbs up onto the chest. Reaching inside with his monkey paws, Jack takes out a piece of the cursed treasure, and his skin sloughs off as the curse takes hold, transforming the small furry creature into an undead monkey once more. Then, Jack the Monkey turns around to his left, as if to face someone or something watching him, and pounces forward, screeching loudly as the story ends.
Author's Note: And cue He's a Pirate theme! That, me hearties, concludes our tale of Devon and Sora's adventure in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. And with that out of the way, it's time to expand our horizons and venture forward into more worlds. In our next story, we journey into a world where dinosaurs are brought back from extinction through prehistoric DNA thanks to the genetic engineering of science. A world where these historical creatures are featured in an amazing theme park of adventure for entertainment in the era of modern man. That's right! I'm talking about Devon's adventure in the epic world of Jurassic Park, where life finds a way. This will take place in Paths of Destiny during Devon's journey through the sleeping worlds. It will be an interesting challenge, but I'm sure that everyone's excited about this as I am! So, be on the lookout for Kingdom Hearts: Jurassic Safari, where our Keyblade Master's skills of survival are put to the ultimate test against prehistoric predators. Let me know what you guys think.
