95- Nothing is Impossible

Summary: While fighting the military, Mike makes a sacrifice.

The ground was shaking.

It wasn't another earthquake, fortunately, but something possibly much worse.

4 helicopters swirled around them, propellers whooshing. The Party is scattered all around the field, looking up at the metal monsters. Mike and El were in the middle, right where the helicopters were circling. None of the others were close enough.

They had planned to split up, seeing if they could find the last gate to the Upside Down to close it. They all got split up into groups.

Eddie, Dustin, Johnathan, and Will.

Lucas, Robin, and Erica.

Max, Nancy, and Steve.

And finally, Mike and El.

Joyce and Hopper were visiting Murray, seeing if he knew anything.

So, there they were, hiking through the large field, armed with weapons, looking for the orange gate. Everyone had improved their weapons of choice, making sure they were reliable and durable.

Though, they couldn't do anything about helicopters.

Nancy had raised her gun, pointing at the pilot of one of them, but that's when the voice spoke, "You shoot, we shoot."

It was General Sullivan. He'd tracked El down, and he wanted to make sure they got her this time. So, he quadrupled the security.

Nancy reluctantly lowered her gun, watching as the helicopters circled her little brother. Everyone was too far away to run to them, and if they moved, there was a possibility they could get shot. She saw Eddie cover Dustin, the same with Johnathan and Will. Robin stood in front of Lucas who was covering Erica. And Steve moved to cover Max, but he knew too well not to cover Nancy.

The helicopters kept circling. Mike and El gripped each others hands, not sure what to do. Sullivan seemed to have the answer, "Surrender! Or there will be consequences!"

El glanced at Mike, having a quick short, silent conversation. Suddenly, one of the helicopters were thrown back, impacting with the ground. The second one followed it, so did the third. There was only one left, and El couldn't focus, she couldn't drive it to the ground.

Everything happened at once.

The helicopter's guns got into position, pointing at the two, and Nancy raised her gun.

Shots.

Shots filled the air, most coming out of the helicopter, shooting towards Mike and El. El felt a warm body tightly hug her, before it went limp.

Mike.

The helicopter dived down, exploding when it met the ground. Nancy had taken them out.

But it was too late.

Mike crumpled to the ground, making a sickening thud as he did. El stood there for a moment, shocked and unable to move. "MIKE!" she cried, falling to her knees as tears dripped down her face. She shook Mike over and over, begging him to wake up, to talk to her.

He never did.

The Party ran up in packs, first Lucas, Erica and Robin. Lucas looked lost, their leader was dead. Erica and Robin put their hands on each of his shoulders and glanced at each other. The other Party members had similar reactions, Dustin diving into Eddie for a hug, Will doing the same with Johnathan. By the time Max, Steve and Nancy get there, El is sitting back, simply looking at the body of her boyfriend.

Nancy gasps and chokes out a sob. She quietly kneels down next to El and hugs her. She begins to whisper comforts and assurances to her, all while staring at Mike's bloody body.

The battlefield is quiet somehow. Even with the sobbing and the fire crackling from the destroyed helicopters, it's quiet. Their leader is dead. Mike Wheeler had lead them all in a way, either in a DND game or against the Upside-Down.

It didn't seem right for him to die.

It was totally unfair, they all had too many losses over the years, they were supposed to be done. They understood there was still a chance with the government chasing them and not all of the gates completely closed.

But Mike?

No.

That wasn't possible.

But, as the Party stared at the dead body of Mike Wheeler, they knew one thing.

Nothing was impossible any more.

AN: *singing in a really creepy voice* I'm back! So, turns out my brain wanted a 3 month hiatus because it had no motivation to write a single sentence much less than a whole prompt. But it's back! For now. I'm going to try to knock some the prompts out while I still can. I hope you all had nice holidays and anything else that I missed. Requests are still closed, I'm going try to comb through some old ones that I hadn't gotten to.
