I don't understand if you really care
His mother decided on a tea party. Elegant and tasteful, his mother saw to it all under the ever-watching and learning eye of Kagome, who was enjoying it. She sat next to his mother and watched the women interact. His mother made each of them pour tea, and Kagome took note of how they now bowed to her.
Kagome smiled warmly to each woman, though his mother wished she wouldn't.
While his mother seemed pleased, and Kagome seemed happy, he was bored more than normal.
Kagome sipped her tea, and her eyes moved to him, and then their eyes met again for the third time in an hour.
Kagome leaned. "Shouldn't one of them pour him tea?"
His mother snorted,
"Should I?"
"If you must,"
Kagome bowed her head and grabbed a free tea pot and made her way to him. He sat a few feet back and one step up, as he were watching over them, which he was. Kagome bowed, following what she saw the other women do.
"Tea?"
He didnt deny her, so she poured it.
He eyed it before looking back at the group of women. "Come here," He told her. She sat the teapot down and moved to sit next to him.
He picked up the tea and handed it to her.
"It's not poisoned,"
"Poison would not kill me; I am immune; I simply do not wish to drink,"
"Then why have a tea party?"
He looked at her.
"As much as I enjoy your dark gazes, wouldn't it be better if you were looking at them?"
He looked away. "Which do you prefer?"
Kagome cocked her head to the side. "Im not mating them,"
"Yet you are the Lady of the West; which of these women can take the place of you?"
Before she could stop herself, with the teacup halfway to her mouth, she said, "None of them,"
He looked at her and coughed. "That's not what I mean," She blushed. "I mean, of course, I'll bow out when you choose one of them; it's just, ugh, the way you said it,"
She sat the cup down. "Im going to go back now,"
He watched her in her pink Kimono that she seemed to favor as she went back to sit with his mother.
"You are flustered; why,"
"I have homework to do,"
His mother raised an eyebrow and then looked back at her son, who smirked.
Kagome spent the rest of the time concentrating on the small things and when it was over his mother was staring a hole through her.
"Miko!" She finally snapped,
"Hu, what?"
"What did my son say that caused your sudden shift?"
"Oh, it was nothing,"
She crossed her arms,
"He wants to know which one I would choose to take my place,"
"And?"
"I realized I had not really been paying attention,"
His mother raised an eyebrow,
"Im supposed to be helping him replace me,"
"You are not replaceable,"
Kagome smiled. "Aw, do you maybe like me a little more now?"
"Off subject Miko, you are not replaceable; your position is and is temporary,"
"I know that,"
Kagome looked at her nails,
"Have you come to like your title, little Miko?" His mother smiled, making Kagome snap her head up. "I-
"I am pleased you care about it now, Miko; it means you will guard it well. Whatever you said to today apparently pleased him as well,"
"I hight doubt that,"
His mother raised another eyebrow,
"I made it sound like I was the only woman for the job," Kagome cringed,
Later that night, Kagome took in the fresh night air. It was late, and all the women were long put to bed. She went over the day in her head and laughed a little. if only Inuyasha could see her now, he would probably say she looks stupid.
"It is late,"
Kagome turned, surprised by him.
"Sesshomaru," She let it slip.
"Miko," So did he.
They stared at each other in silence till she looked away.
"My sword and threats do not make you look away, yet my gaze does,"
"Your intense,"
"As I've always been,"
"Do you realize I am taking this more seriously than you are,"
"Woman, you spent most of the day in bliss; it was I who took it seriously,"
"You spent half the time glaring at me; I mean, do you care at all, or are you just wasting time? You dont have to mate Sesshomaru, who cares about-
"I care, Miko," He said harshly. "I thought perhaps you had started to,"
"I do care. Didn't you hear what I just said? You spent more time looking at me than them!"
He drew close, looking down at her. "I watched every woman there. Do not flatter yourself."
"Ok, then, what did you learn, mister?" She put her hands on her hips, waiting.
He took her whole stance in, "You should know me well by now, Miko," He then turned and left her.
He was angry not with her but with himself because the only thing he learned today was that no matter how much he looked at them, his eyes always drew back to her.
