"What's it like? Living forever?"
"... At first... it was everything... but you soon realize those who want this are idiots. Because a life without loss is one without love. If you turn your back on death, you'll only see the shadow that it casts. The longer you hide from it, the longer the shadow grows, until all you can see is darkness."
"Is this why you hate mother? Why you hate the current gods."
"Yes, for they're cowards with power. When your time comes, look at death in the eye and embrace it as a friend. Only then can you emerge from that darkness."
"But not you. You can no longer escape it... can you?"
"..."
(Itta)
"Franci? You ready for your walk?" I said in my monotone voice as I knocked softly on her door. Hearing no response, I enter. There, I saw the fourth princess of the Lescatie sleeping in her bed. Her soft breath and my footsteps were the only sound in her room. Shaking her softly, she began to stir.
Opening her eyes, Francisca sees Itta and smiles. "Mrs. Itta." Her voice was soft, and if you listened closely, you could also hear how her sickness affected her voice. Not like anyone here in this blasted castle cares to.
"It's the afternoon, Francisca, and since you are still in bed, you obviously missed your morning medication," I said sternly. Francisca looks down, grimacing, but apologizes. "Don't apologize, Franci; it's you who is sick, not me."
"I know, but I feel terrible that you go out of your way to care for me, and I miss my medication that you buy with your own money." Looking up to look into my eyes. Smiling, I placed my hand on her cheek and caressed it.
"You are very kind, Franci, despite life being cruel to you. But I'm doing this because your family chose to abandon you, and I hate it when a family abandons a member of their own. Especially if they don't deserve it." Francisca leans into the hand and smiles at me.
"I should be the one saying you're kind, Mrs. Itta. Out of everyone, you go out of your way to care for me. You didn't do this for monetary gain or power. But simply because you wanted to. Even after long days of caring for the castle as headmaid, you still come to spend time with me. And I can never thank you enough." I was touched by this and wrapped my arms around her, which she returned gladly.
"Come on, let's get you something to eat and have you take your medication." Nodding, she shakily got up from her bed, and I began helping her dress and combing her hair. After a bit, I began walking her to the table, where she ate and drank her medication. Once done, we went for our walk.
(Later)
"My husband tends to be an idiot sometimes and always gets stuck in the dumbest situations. For instance, he once traumatized a whole hotel
by getting stuck at the registration table."
Francisca laughs at this but then gets a curious look. "How did he traumatize them?"
"You don't wanna know. But it's something my husband will be able to do. Which is why I have to take care of him so much. He's an idiot, but he's my idiot." and very depressed.
"You really love your husband, Mrs Itta, despite all his flaws."
"Of course, who else would take care of him. Plus, if I died, he wouldn't be too far to join me."
"How so? Will he get into very serious trouble?"
"My husband is loyal and protective of me despite my hardiness and strength. You should know you've seen me do the impossible. But no he wouldn't get into trouble he would instead die of a broken heart."
Francisca nods at this and remembers a certain event. 'How could she lift a whole wagon filled with building materials?' "I'm surprised that with your strength, you aren't a hero, Mrs. Itta."
"I could never, I'm a pacifist. I could hold someone down and wait for someone to do the job, but I could never kill." She hummed as we eventually made it to the castle garden and sat down. As we sat I began telling Francisca stories she never tires of hearing. I must've been so into telling the story that I didn't notice the sun going down. "Oh, Night already? Huh." Turning to face the princess, I saw her staring at the stars.
"Do you ever wonder what it's like being up in the stars?" She said, still looking at the stars.
"Once, but then I stopped." At this, she turned to face me, curious by my answer.
"Why?"
"Because I found out what it was like." The princess looked surprised before quickly changing into an excited one.
"What was it like!"
"Beautiful and quiet. So quiet. Did you know that sound can't be heard in the void up there?"
"Really?"
"Yes, which can be terrifying. Because if you are ever in danger, no one won't be able to hear you." Francisca shivered at this before pouting at me.
"You always find a way to make things scary, Mrs. Itta."
"Lots of things are dangerous, and without having that healthy amount of fear, you would have a quick or painful death." But Francisca still maintained her pout.
"Still." At this, I chuckled before I began to guide her inside.
(Kell)
"What happened to Illva?" As I was staring at her stuck on the wall in some type of yellow foam.
"Olivia got revenge on her for spiking her by Han Soloing her with some hardening quick foam that Gylda taught her to make," Yondu said, also staring at the outline of Illva. Which he took a photo of. I gotta tell him to send that to me later on.
"Huh, she learns quick."
"Yep. Hell, she's been enjoying learning the science we know. She has already managed to pass us in advanced science. But still sucks at the higher parts of math, but know her, she'll figure it out quickly."
"All that in two months."
"Yep... We should probably start getting Illva out of that soon."
"Eh, a couple more days won't harm her."
"... Yeah, you're right. Either way we got a job involving some soldier beetles picked up by the beacon we planted." Nodding, we began making our way to the location.
(Later)
"Wow, they are big," I said, looking at one of two soldier beetles fighting each other.
"Remember, we gotta capture one, so leave it to me, and I'll be able to get one via blood magic." I nodded at him and began moving to a more suited area. But I was stopped by Yondu before I did. "You did bring the explosives, right? We may be strong as fuck, but we are limited, and armor is still armor." I nodded and took out the grenade launcher I brought. Nodding, he let me go on.
While circling between the two dueling soldier battles, I saw a man on the floor who looked to be knocked out. Maybe by accident, since I doubt these two would have done it. But seeing he was far enough for him not to be harmed by the grenade launcher, I aimed it. One of the beetles had a shield on them, while the other had a giant scissor spear thingy. I don't know what it is. Seeing that the shield may cause more of a problem, I fired it at her.

[Soldier Beetle]
It is always interesting how bug-type mamano either have a lobster-like texture or crab. The soldier beetles have a crab-like texture, and their flesh tastes like beef. I found that it is better if you cut the upper half of the body and confuse it however you like. But for the lower half, get a big pot and heat that baby up for humongous beef-tasting crab. P.S. The legs are amazing.
[Stomach]
Due to them being herbivores and favoring sweets, their stomachs tend to have a small hint of sweetness. Best cooked over an open fire.
[Heart]
It contains tons of vitamins and healthy stuff that I'm too lazy to list. But I recommend eating this in curry, stew, or sticks.
[Tounge]
It is very tender and tastes amazing. Eat this however you want. There is no wrong answer for these.
[Breasts]
Depending on which beetle you kill, they might not be as big as others. But I got lucky a few times. They are very juicy and easy to swallow; I recommend this to those with problems swallowing. Eat this however you like.
[Others]
They would either have too many vitamins that they'll be lethal to consume or too tough to eat.
Once we returned to the cave, the soldier beetle that was following us collapsed and began to weep softly. We decided to take the shield-wielding beetle with us since she would be useful once we properly equipped her with our stuff. But what Yondu did to bring her under his control was tear her heart out. Doing so, he bound her to him. Plus, she gains some benefits as well. Her stamina has increased by 5 times more than usual, as well as her strength. So she will be a force to be reckoned with. Still, though, she kept crying as she lay on the floor. Apparently, the other beetle was her sister, and they were dueling to see who would get the first dip on the man. But that ended soon after we struck. Of all the things we always hate, separate families are one of them.
Which is why we brought her body with us to be revived later on. The beetle doesn't know, but her sister is being kept in a coma, so we can replace her heart with an artificial one. So, right now, we are letting her believe her sister is dead.
"You're back!" And there's Gylda. "Wow, look at her. She's amazing! I can't wait to get samples of her chitin."
Devlin the bandit: Glad you liked it decided to be a bit funny that chapter. Plus for the weed i thought I be an interesting feat to show how different mamano may react to certain thing not native to their world. For the sabbath I may have to read a bit about it in the wiki so I could eventually write a sistuation for them.
