My Hero Academia: Rise Of The Kaiju
Episode 10: Regroup
By Remy Corona
The day begins to end as the sun goes down and the moon takes its place. The calm ocean and light breeze offer a peaceful setting to the night. Stars shine through the many clouds in the sky while Rodan makes his way through the air. His wings beat every ten seconds as he examines his surroundings, looking for any sign of life. Rodan's eyes focus on certain parts of the sea, trying to find any aquatic members of the earth defenders. While searching, he asks himself if he should've just stayed with Kong and waited for the others to show up. Rodan does know that Kong is strong and can handle himself, but he questions if Kong can take on more than one mutant if they do end up finding him. If Megaguirus was here, then the others aren't far behind. Rodan knows that he has to act fast and find more earth defenders if he wants Kong to survive. Clearing his mind and slamming his wings together, Rodan rockets through the clouds at an incredibly high speed. He flies by the clouds so fast that he doesn't notice the bioluminescence following him. Rodan peers to the side and notices a light blue color shining through some of the clouds that were right beside him. Rodan stops himself and takes a moment to take in the sight. Shortly, the clouds are pushed aside as two large, bioluminescent wings appear. Rodan's jaw drops from both awe and excitement. After searching for hours on end, he has finally found another earth defender. The queen of all kaiju, Mothra, has arrived.
Rodan roars in joy and Mothra releases a small chirp back at her comrade. The two winged kaiju fly around each other in circles as they engage in communication. Rodan roars at Mothra, unable to contain his excitement which is a first as him and Mothra barely spoke to each other. But due to the circumstances they're at now, Rodan will accept finding anyone. Mothra begins to chirp at Rodan as she asks him many questions. Unable to comprehend what she's saying as Mothra quickly switches from one question to the next. Rodan roars at her as a way to calm her down. He then tells her that the only earth defenders he's come across so far are both her and Kong. Mothra grows surprised by Rodan's response as she didn't expect him and Kong to be the first ones to find each other. Mothra then asks if they've come in contact with any mutants. Rodan tells her about his and Kong's battle with Megaguirus. He then proceeds to tell her about the humans Kong is watching on the island that he left from. Rodan begins to act somewhat nervous as he feels that he's been gone for too long. Mothra quickly reassures him as she states she will return to Kong's location and stay there in case he is in need of assistance. Rodan calms down and tells Mothra the directions to get to Kong. Once he finishes, Rodan flaps his wings and swiftly enters the clouds as he soars off, continuing his search. Mothra begins to beat her wings together and heads back to the island.
Meanwhile, out in the countryside, King Caesar and Behemoth walk through the many fields and prairies. King Caesar keeps an open eye out for any other kaiju while his friend trudges along. Behemoth, limps with every step he takes as his right arm has been badly damaged. Before King Caesar found him, he was attacked by one of the mutants. He didn't expect the attack and was unprepared for his opponent. Behemoth barely even remembers the fight as the mutant attacked quickly and without hesitation. After each blow it threw at Behemoth, it immediately attacked once again. He tried his best to defend himself. He swayed his head back and forth, swinging his mighty tusks as a way to counter the multitude of hits. But sadly he realized his efforts were vain and he lost the battle. The mutant closed in on him, preparing for the final blow. Thankfully, Behemoth roared and King Caesar was close enough to hear his distress call. Caesar came to his aid and saved Behemoth from the mutant. The mammalian kaiju now has cuts all over his body and a large gash on his right arm. King Caesar assisted Behemoth most of the way as he lifted Behemoth's right arm over his shoulder and helped him keep his balance. Luckily Behemoth regained some of his strength back and was now able to walk on his own, despite his arm being in such poor condition. Now King Caesar keeps a close eye on his ally and repeatedly looks behind his shoulder just in case Behemoth needs any help.
The two travel a few more miles before King Caesar's ears quickly go upwards. He hears something and it's getting closer by the minute. Behemoth notices King Caesar freeze in place and bellows at him. Caesar turns around to face Behemoth and motions for him to stay silent. The two of them then rest themselves on the side of a nearby mountain so as to not be spotted by whatever is approaching them. King Caesar prepares himself for the incoming attacker. He digs his claws into the mountain, taking out a piece of it to use as a weapon. His ears perk up once more as whatever creature is approaching, is right next to the mountain. King Caesar glances at Behemoth and sees the condition he's in. Caesar realizes that he probably won't make it out of this fight, but he has to try. No matter what happens, he must not let the mutant kill Behemoth. King Caesar has a lot in his life and today won't be the day he loses one of his comrades. King Caesar roars in anger and takes out the piece of the mountain and throws it at the kaiju. Before it makes contact, the piece is blasted back at King Caesar. He ducks, completely evading the attack. Caesar rears his head back up. He snarls and growls at the attacker but quickly ceases his aggression as he sees that it's just Zilla and Kumonga. Caesar catches his breath from so much adrenaline. He quickly gets back on his feet and begs for forgiveness from Zilla and Kumonga. The two of them look at each other as they're puzzled by his mannerisms. Zilla pats King Caesar on the shoulder and urges him to stop. Caesar puts down his hands and becomes embarrassed by his action. Behemoth walks out from behind the mountain and sees Zilla and Kumonga. Behemoth releases a low roar and walks up to his newly found allies. Kumonga raises one of his legs and points at Behemoth's arm. Zilla sniffs the wound and grows worried. Behemoth reassures her that he's fine, just a flesh wound. King Caesar joins in the conversation as he questions where Zilla and Kumonga have been. Zilla answers by explaining that she and Kumonga found each other quite easily.
After the massive beam of light blinded them all, Zilla found herself in a wide open space. There was no other kaiju near her. No Mutants or earth defenders, just her. Zilla sniffed the air to see if she could catch the scent of anyone else. Unfortunately she had no such luck and decided to move on. She did however notice something else about the atmosphere. It seemed completely different from how Earth usually smelled. The atmosphere here contained a sort of new fragrance. One that smelled more clean and almost sweet. Puzzled by this, Zilla decided that she wasn't going to get anything done by just standing here so she moved on. While walking, she wondered what exactly happened to her team and the enemy. All that she could recall was their battle and that bright beam of light appearing out of thin air. Once the beam passed over her, she found herself here. Zilla almost questioned if that beam transported her to this land and away from the others. Although if that was the case, wouldn't she still be on Earth? While she did know that this was Earth, it seemed completely different to her. The scent of the atmosphere was one thing but another was there being no sign of any other kaiju. Sure the earth defenders couldn't be found but there were more than just those two groups of kaiju. Everywhere you looked, there were numbers of them, walking around and minding their own business. But here, there wasn't a single one present. While deep in thought, Zilla heard a familiar screech and quickly ran over to where it was produced. As she ran, Zilla started to become lost and listened carefully for the screech again. Another one sounded off and she had an idea of where it was coming from. She zipped past and ran across miles of land until she finally found the source of the screech. Zilla's excitement quickly dwindled as she saw Kumonga, wrapped around in his own webbing. The large spider saw Zilla and waved at her. Zilla, annoyed but still happy to find another kaiju, helped Kumonga free himself. Once freed, Kumonga thanked Zilla but she returned with a simple eye roll. Kumonga then examined the nearby area and just like Zilla, saw that they weren't on their own Earth anymore. Kumonga then began to stress out as he ran in circles. Zilla only stood by and watched him. She then stopped him and explained to him that panicking wasn't their best option at this point. If they were ever going to find the others, they had to move on from this land and go out further into this new Earth.
After explaining her story, both Behemoth and King Caesar realize that neither of their groups have found anyone else. The four earth defenders then hear a strange sound coming from right above them. All four look up and see a red streak going through the clouds. Immediately they know who it is and start to emit roars and cries, trying to get the attention of Rodan. The fire demon hears these sounds and bursts his head through the clouds and sees them. He quickly slams his wings together and dive bombs towards them. King Caesar urges them to move out of the way as Rodan lands in front of them, causing a small shockwave to occur. Rodan roars in pure excitement. The other four return the joy back at him. King Caesar immediately gets to the point and asks Rodan if he has found any other earth defenders. They all expect him to say no as well but to their shock, Rodan tells them about Mothra and Kong. Zilla asks where he spotted them which Rodan tells of the battle with Megaguirus, Kong staying on the island with a group of humans and his encounter with Mothra. He then proceeds to tell them the directions on how to get to the island as he quickly flies, proceeding to continue his search. Kumonga scratches his head by Rodan's sudden farewell as Zilla and King Caesar nod at each other. Both of them talk to the others as they begin their journey to regroup with Kong and Mothra. They quickly go into the sea but Kumonga stays behind. King Caesar questions him but he remembers that Kumonga can't swim. King Caesar then places Kumonga on his back and the four of them head to the island.
Back on the island, the heroes have almost finished fixing the Thunderbird while Kong continues to rest. While the others are fixing the wing, Izuku goes over to the bay and splashes water in the face in order to keep himself awake. As he gets up from crouching, he sees Uraraka walking up to him.
Izuku: Oh hey Uraraka. I didn't see you there.
Uraraka: Yeah, thought I might take a break from fixing the wing. We're almost done with it actually.
Izuku: Great! Here I thought we were going to be stuck on this island for even longer.
Uraraka chuckles and wipes away some of the dirt on her face. Izuku looks over at her and starts to think about what he told her before.
Izuku: Hey Uraraka, remember when I said that maybe some of the monsters could be our allies?
Uraraka: Of course I remember, that's the whole reason why I made friends with that one monster with the horn. If it weren't for what you said, I might've just thought that all of these monsters were evil. But from your speech, I saw that not all of them are as bad as people are making them out to be.
Izuku processes her words and realizes that she could be right. Despite their appearances, most of these monsters have been benevolent and non aggressive to him and his classmates. Maybe what he told Uraraka wasn't just a lucky guess, but the truth.
Uraraka: Deku are you ok? You look like you're staring off into space.
Izuku: Yeah I'm fine. I was just thinking about a few things. So now that you're friends with that one monster, are you gonna take him home? He could be your new dog.
Uraraka lightly punches Izuku on the shoulder as she chuckles at his statement. The two of them then fall silent as they stare out at the calm sea. Uraraka looks over at Izuku, who does the same to her. Uraraka produces a light smile which Izuku does the same. She then moves her eyes to the side and her expression changes. Izuku becomes puzzled by this sudden change in her posture.
Uraraka: Deku...
Izuku: Yes?
Uraraka: What's that?!
She points past Izuku's shoulder and he turns his head around to see a chilling sight. Just beside a small mountain, two large yellow eyes glare at Izuku and Uraraka. The eyes then move up as the creature that possesses them, stands up and is lit by the moon. Krystalak cackles in a disturbing matter as his eyes set on the two young heroes. Izuku and Uraraka move back a few inches before she stops him from moving back.
Izuku: Uraraka, why did you stop?
He turns around and sees another one of the monsters. However this one is new to him. This new creature has lava dripping from its rock-like body. Unlike the other monster, this one has eyes but instead a large mouth that is filled with magma. Uraraka and Izuku are surrounded by the two mutants. Krystalak raises his hand up and slashes right at them.
