Author's Notes: This chapter was quite enjoyable for me to write. I hope you guys enjoy it, too. We've only got three chapters left for the first arc to be done, then it's onto the next arc.
Chapter 10: Dinosaur Trouble!
[Fighter Lab, Kalundborg Outskirts]
(Daniel's POV)
I was together with Christian and Jake, as well as my Dad and Sarah inside the Fighter lab, watching the dinosaurs getting along, with Tyrunt playing with Giganto, Salta and Utah. Now that we had gotten two new friends in our group, everything had been more filled with life in the lab. It sure felt strange, with four dinosaurs and see them getting along.
Meanwhile, Ankylo the Ankylosaurus was sleeping in a nearby corner, curled up in a ball.
But, that was fine with me. I enjoy seeing them play on the floor, chasing each other like they usually do.
"Slow down, you four. Tyrunt, please don't try to bite Salta!" Jake said with his ever worried voice, afraid of knowing the consequence of having three predators chase one of the only herbivores in the lab.
"You don't have to be concerned, Jake," comforted Sarah. "Tyrunt has more senses with his behavior, and he will be careful with Salta."
I could see the softened look in Jake's eyes after she told him that. "Besides, Tyrunt's smarter than that," I added. "He wouldn't harm a single herbivore in our possession. Right, buddy?"
As if on cue, Tyrunt bit onto Salta's tail, causing the herbivore to scream in pain.
"Tyrunt!" I scolded.
Tyrunt let go of Salta. "Sorry…it just sort of got into me to bite him. I didn't hear you, partner."
I sighed, rubbing my forehead in disappointment while Jake went to Salta and checked on where Tyrunt had bitten him.
"Getting bitten is not fun, huh, Salta?" Jake spoke.
"No…" Salta grumbled, looking at his tail. "And having three carnivores chasing me did not help in the slightest of that comfort, Sarah."
As usual, Sarah was busy typing on her machine, checking on our Dino Gauntlets and the stones in them.
"Don't worry, Salta," Dad said. "I'm sure we can find a way for you to be protected by other carnivores."
"Hopefully…" Salta grunted. "I hate being unable to defend myself against them."
"But your spiky back can defend you," Giganto pointed out.
"True, but it's only against offensive direct attacks from above," Salta told her. "If we take a brief on how Chomp was able to strike me underneath, then I would be more comfortable."
"He did something that was rather good to know, though," Christian said.
"But now let's not talk more about that, you guys," said Sarah.
"Why?" I wondered, looking at her.
"Because your Dino Gauntlets are finished." She held my Dino Gauntlet up. "Yours was the first one to be completed with a new upgrade, Daniel."
"Oh, that's sweet!" I cheered, taking my Gauntlet from her and put it onto my arm.
"If you press the button, then some mechanism will open and you can pull more Move Cards from it," she explained.
I pressed the button near the edge of the device, and it opened as she told me. "Wow! This is very useful. Thanks, Sarah!"
"Now we can fight with an advantage against the Alpha Gang," Tyrunt stated.
"Indeed," I agreed.
Suddenly, the screen turned on by Dad as a beeping sound was heard.
"Looks like another dinosaur has appeared," Dad spoke.
"Where is it?" Christian asked.
"It looks to be…Subashi Formation, in China," Sarah said.
"In China?" I blinked. "Well then, let's get going!"
"Right!" My friends all nodded.
"Wait, take me with you!" Dad cried out, stopping us. "I would love to see the Subashi Formation with my own eyes! Please!"
"Sorry, Dad," I apologized, already on the teleporter with Tyrunt, Christian and Utah, Jake and Salta. "But you cannot go unless you have a Dino Gauntlet. I can take a souvenir with me home, if you'd like."
"That would sound all the better!"
And then, we pressed the teleportation button and was warped away.
[Subashi Formation, China]
After the teleportation stopped, we were finally in the Flaming Mountains, China near the Subashi Formation. The red mountains were enormous. I could barely take my breath away from seeing the formation of the mountains. My guess was that they must have been formed in the Late Cretaceous period.
"So, where do you think the dinosaur could be?" I asked my friends, finally taking my eyes off the mountains to look at them.
"Could be anywhere," Jake answered. He glanced around. "I just hope we don't run into any trouble while we're here at the Subashi Formation."
"After what we've been through these past couple of weeks," Utah started, "it wouldn't surprise me if we were to run into it anyway."
"You're right, Utah," Christian stated in agreement. "Do you remember the Great Wall, Daniel?"
"Oh yeah," I realized. "You guys weren't there when it happened, but from my experience it was a good thing the D-Team was with me."
"Shall we look for the dinosaur, or do you guys keep wanting to talk?" Tyrunt called impatiently a few centimeters away.
"Wait up!" I called to him, running to catch up with my dinosaur pal, with Jake and Christian, as well as Utah and Salta behind me.
We began to search for the dinosaur that had been detected in the area. The blazing sun was giving us not a great time while we looked for our target. I was beginning to sweat as we walked along the mountain walls - when finally, we stopped as I glanced around the corner…only to quickly hide behind the wall again.
Thankfully, the dinosaur hadn't spotted me, as I heard it continued snoring loudly nearby. I peeked around once more to look at the dinosaur. It looked like a Tarbosaurus, one I had fought against the Beta Group who had one of them in their possession.
"We need to be careful," I whispered to my friends, who were curious about my reaction. "The Tarbosaurus is asleep."
"Well, that is great, isn't it?" asked Jake. "What would happen if we took it with us at its current condition?"
"If we did that, it would wake up, enraged at our interruption of its nap," Tyrunt pointed out. "From what I've noticed, back when I was not turned into a card, I saw one of them being angry at the intruder who got into its territory. We should approach it with caution," he added.
"Gotcha," I winked.
"Well, well. Look who we have here." A familiar voice arrived just then.
We looked over to find the four people, whom I recognized as the Beta Group. "Ugh. Not you guys again," I groaned.
"So you remember us," the girl smiled. "That is good."
"Can't you see we're a little busy right now?" I asked. "We don't have time for you."
"Oh, but we have unfinished business with you, Daniel Clausen," said the leader, pointing at me.
"Do I know your names?" I questioned. "Because I don't recall you introduce yourselves."
"Fine," he sighed. "My name is Volt. I am the leader of the Beta Group, as you may have known."
"And my name is Chan," the girl introduced with a bow.
"And as for me, I am Frank," the middle man of the group said.
"Finally, my name is Claus," the last of the group finished.
"Oh, great." Utah rolled his eyes. "More clowns we need to beat in order to be free."
Chan pointed at him accusingly. "You'd better watch out, raptor. You don't like it when a girl's angry."
"Gee, I'm soo scared!" Utah mocked her by giving her the face.
Chan's eyes twitched.
Christian knelt down to Utah's height, whispering: "Be careful. You don't want her to lash out at you for mocking her."
"So?" Utah looked at his partner. "She seems to be the easiest of the four in the group to take out."
"Are you absolutely sure about that?" Chan spoke.
"If you wanna fight, bring it on!" Utah said excitedly.
Both Tyrunt and I could only facepalm at his cockiness. It would lead him to his downfall if this keeps up.
"Well then," Chan said with a challenging grin. "Shall we start?"
"Sure!" Christian replied.
"Uh, guys?" We heard Jake's gulp of fear. "Should we take this another time?"
"Why?" Utah asked, turning his gaze over.
"Because you just woke it up!" Jake shouted, before we all saw the Tarbosaurus fully awake and angry, as it roared loudly.
"Perfect!" Volt said with a smile. "Another Tarbosaurus to my collection. Let's grab it!"
"You got it, sir!" Frank and Claus said together.
"BETA SLASH!"
I noticed them going to attack the Tarbosaurus with their dinosaurs, who appeared in full size in front of the Tarbosaurus, which turned its attention from us to them.
The Sinoceratops roared and charged forward to the Tarbosaurus, while the other Tarbosaurus in Claus's possession charged as well.
The wild Tarbosaurus roared angrily, slapping its tail at the other Tarbosaurus two times before it was hit by the Sinoceratops's horns and sent across the earth.
"We've gotta help it!" I said determinedly. "Let's do this, Tyrunt!"
"You got it!" He nodded, before I turned him into his card and swiped it in my Dino Gauntlet. Afterward, Tyrunt reappeared in full size, as the Battlefield changed the environment to a prehistoric rocky terrain.
Me and my friends were looking around, seeing a volcano in the distance.
"Whoa!" Jake gasped in worry. "This doesn't look good…"
"You just have to hold your ground, Jake!" Salta told him.
"BETA SLASH!" Chan shouted. "Velociraptor, turn the scene around!"
Her Velociraptor came forth in its full size. It snarled at Utah, as it tried to mock him.
Utah growled angrily. "I don't want to stand here!" he decided. "Let me fight, Christian!"
"Okay!" He nodded. "Let's do this, Utah! DINO SLASH! Wind's up, Utahraptor!"
Utah reappeared in his full size in front of the Velociratpor.
I looked over to them, noticing them about to start their own fight.
"Have you forgotten not to look away from your opponents, kid?!" Claus yelled to me. "You will regret it!"
I grit my teeth, turning back to my own battle, watching as Tyrunt ran towards the Sinoceratops before he slammed his tail in its side a few times. He was hit by the Sinoceratops's horns and was sent away yards away across the rocky terrain. "You can do it, Tyrunt! Go for it!"
Tyrunt roared loudly, charging once more towards the Sinoceratops.
Claus laughed. "Your same move won't work twice, kid."
The Sinoceratops jumped to the side, avoiding the jaws of Tyrunt.
Beside our fight, Utah was battling the Velociraptor in a contest of speed by running across the prehistoric terrain. Utah was shown to be able to hold his own against the Velociraptor.
"Tornado Wind!" Christian shouted, swiping his Move Card in his Dino Gauntlet.
"Nuh-uh! I won't let you do that!" Chan spoke. "Claw Attack!"
The raptor sped its way toward Utah and clawed him in the face, interrupting his tornado attack.
"Go, Tyrunt!" I called out. "Tail Smash!" I swiped the Move Card in my Gauntlet, as Tyrunt glowed red for a moment before he charged forward at the Sinoceratops, slamming his tail at it two times before a third attack sent it across the terrain.
"Tch," growled Volt. "Frank, we need your assistance!"
"You got it, boss!" Frank nodded. "BETA SLASH! Brontosaurus, stomp 'em to the ground!" A large Brontosaurus appeared on the battlefield with a roar of its announcement.
"Three against two, huh?" I smirked. "We can even that up. Jake, we need Salta!" I turned, noticing he was hiding behind some boulder with Salta, covering for the battle. I sweat dropped. "Oh, great…"
"Daniel, we need to take care of one of them in turn," Tyrunt told me, stepping beside me while the wild Tarbosaurus was fighting the tamed Tarbosaurus with Claus. "If this keeps up, who knows what will happen on the Battlefield."
"I know!" I said. "Let me just think of something before we charge in head-to-head."
Tyrunt glanced at me with an eye. "I never took you for a strategist, partner."
"Hey, are you two done talking?" Frank called over from the across the field. "'Cause we're just getting warmed up!"
"What he said!" Volt added in agreement with his lackey. "Sinoceratops, Thunder Storm!" He swiped his Move Card in his own Gauntlet.
Black clouds appeared above us as a thunderstorm began to come down from the clouds. Both me and Tyrunt moved aside to avoid getting hit by the thunder.
"Head Charge!" I swiped the second Move Card in my card slot, when Tyrunt glowed red again and ran across the field towards the Sinoceratops — only for the Brontosaurus to intercept in the attack and block his path.
"Jake!" I called behind me. "We need Salta right now! We can't take on them alone!"
"But…" the scared voice of Jake replied. "I've never been on this kind of battlefield before. It's frightening me."
"And I am not used to fighting multiple opponents at once," added Salta.
I shook my head in disappointment. "Looks like we'll have to defeat them ourselves, Christian —" I soon realized he was nowhere nearby as he and Chan took their fight someplace else. "Oh, great. We're alone, Tyrunt."
"Oh, how perfect," he growled, slamming his tail against the Brontosaurus, only for it to rear back with its long neck. "Let me hit you, longneck!"
"I won't let you do that, Tyrannosaurus," Frank grinned, as if he was having the time of his life.
The wild Tarbosaurus was also having his own hard time nearby, as Claus's dinosaur was beating it up with its tail.
"Let's help it!" I decided, pointing to the Tarbosaurus, with Tyrunt nodding.
"You got it!" he complied my wish and ran away from the Brontosaurus and Sinoceratops.
"Hey, get back here!" Volt yelled. "After him, Sinoceratops!"
His dinosaur roared angrily, running after Tyrunt. "I got no time for you!" he yelled, slamming his tail hard in the Sinoceratops's face, sending it on the ground at its side, before continuing to run toward the two Tarbosaurus.
"Go for it!" I cheered him on, when he finally arrived to assist the wild Tarbosaurus. "Tail Smash!" I declared, swiping the Move Card in the Dino Gauntlet.
Tyrunt glowed red once more, then he charged for Claus's Tarbosaurus and slammed his tail three times in its face until the wild dinosaur joined in the attack and slammed its tail at the dinosaur, with it turning into its card at last.
"No!" Claus screamed in disbelief.
"What a disappointment, Claus," Volt said, turning to him. "Let's do this, Frank."
"You know it, boss!" Frank said.
"Fusion Move!" They both shouted. "Thunder Vortex Storm!"
"Whoa, what?!" I cried out in panic. "Let's get this over with, shall we, Tyrunt? Volcanic Fire!" I swiped the third Move Card in the card slot.
The Brontosaurus roared alongside the Sinoceratops, as the Sinoceratops charged while the black thunder clouds appeared above it and charged it with electricity before the Brontosaurus launched its Aqua Vortex around the Sinoceratops as it ran toward Tyrunt, who was roared until he opened his mouth and fired his flames.
The wild Tarbosaurus charged into the flames and let itself be engulfed inside the fire and clashed with the Sinoceratops, creating a shockwave across the Battlefield.
I almost lost my foot on the ground with the collision. I watched when the Tarbosaurs broke through the Thunder Vortex Storm and turned the Sinoceratops into its card and collided with the Brontosaurs's body, carding it as well.
"Yes!" I cheered loudly, with Tyrunt and the Tarbosaurus roaring in victory.
"I can't believe it…" Volt gasped in disbelief.
"We lost…" Frank collapsed on the ground.
I walked to stand beside Tyrunt, staring at the trio. "That's what you get for ganging up on someone," I told them. "If you don't play fair, you'll be the ones who get beaten up."
"Tch," was Volt's response. "We need to pull out. Chan!"
"I'm a little busy right now!"
"Are you still fighting that raptor?" Volt demanded. "Get back to us. We're pulling out!"
"On my way!" Chan's voice called from the Gauntlet that Volt had.
"Running away?" I mocked. "Are you cowards or chickens?"
Volt pointed at me. "When we get back, you will be the one who will be a coward. We're going to get much stronger. Just you wait and see, kid!" When Chan appeared beside him with her Velociraptor in its card, they teleported away.
"Get back here!" Christian and Utah shouted in unison, but they were too late when they reached us.
"Damn it!" Utah cursed. "I was so close, too!"
The Battlefield was still in its prehistoric state, while the wild Tarbosaurus was someone I forgot completely that we needed to defeat.
Tyrunt cried out in surprise when he was hit by its tail. "Hey! We just beat them together! Have you forgotten that?"
The Tarbosaurus roared in response.
"I think we need to prove ourselves that we can use his powers," I realized.
"Good!" Tyrunt said. "We're g oing to defeat you, and take you with us!"
The Tarbosaurus growled in challenge before it ran toward him and slammed its tail at Tyrunt's head.
Tyrunt grunted, shaking his head for a moment until he stood back up.
"Tail Smash!" I declared, swiping the Move Card in the card slot.
Tyrunt roared, glowing red for a moment once again, and then he charged at the Tarbosaurus before attacking it three times before headbutting its side, which sent it across the field.
Soon, the volcano was getting active as fire was coming up from its peak. The earth shook when flaming rocks were flying out of the volcano.
"Shit!" I cursed. "We need to end this now, Tyrunt!"
"I know!" Tyrunt replied. "Let's do this!"
"Let me help you!" Utah added, running up beside him.
"Fusion Move, Christian!" I told my friend.
"Good idea!" Christian nodded.
"Volcano Wind Tornado!" We shouted in unison.
Flames lit up in Tyrunt's mouth while Utah's body was covered in a tornado before he was engulfed by the flames when he charged toward the Tarbosaurus and collided with its body. The Tarbosaurus moaned in pain before turning into its card.
We cheered in victory, just as the environment returned back to normal.
As soon as the area was itself again, I went over to grab the Tarbosaurus card and its Move Card. "A Tarbosaurus card and a Fireball Move Card," I said with a smile.
Jake and Salta looked in astonishment. "So…the environment only happened because of the fight?" Jake asked.
"Looks like it," said Salta.
Tyrunt looked up at me. "Let us return back to the lab. I'm sure your father and Sarah are wondering when we will be back."
"Oh, right!" I realized.
[Fighter Lab, Kalundborg]
Finally, after we teleported back to the Figher lab, I let Turbo the Tarbosaurus out to let him look around in the new area he's never been to.
"There you are, kids!" Dad said. "How was the trip? I see you managed to get yourselves a Tarbosaurus."
"The trip went well, Dad," I told him. "It was a tough battle we had to do in order to win against the Beta Group, though."
"The Beta Group?" Dad echoed.
"The ones I fought at the Great Wall of China?" I raised a brow.
"Oh, now I recall who you are talking about," Dad sweat dropped.
"So, this place is where you call home?" Turbo asked Ankylo.
"For the time being," Ankylo replied, having uncurled himself from his ball form. "We need to stay on low profile before we are allowed to be in the public eye."
"I see," Turbo hummed.
"I heard you gave Tyrunt some trouble?" Ankylo spoke again.
"I didn't give him trouble, it was those Beta goons."
Ankylo seemed satisfied, although I knew he wasn't exactly that.
As the day turned into nighttime, it was about time me and Dad went home to Mom, with Tyrunt tagging along.
