Naruto was very nervous, Minato could tell.
They were at the apartment packing Naruto's belongings when he sensed the boy's nervous energy.
"Hey, there's nothing to be nervous or scared about." He said, voice gentle. "Like I said, Mikoto and Fugaku are good friends of mine."
He crouched down in front of Naruto. "They'll take very good care of you."
Naruto nodded, taking a deep breath. Some of his nerves went away, but some still remained.
Of course he trusted his dad, and he didn't doubt his words. But there was a small part of him that was still terrified of being near other villagers.
Naruto only felt safe in his dad's presence.
He didn't want him to leave.
He kept those thoughts to himself though, and tried to stay strong in front of Minato.
"Okay."
It was very clear that Naruto felt down. Minato hated seeing his son sad, he preferred that adorable grin that could brighten the entire room.
He thought for a moment of what he could say to cheer the kid up.
"You know what?" He smirked, making Naruto look up at him curiously. "When I come back, we will start your training."
Naruto gasped, eyes wide. "Really?!"
"Yes, really." He said and laughed when he saw the boy jump up and down, grinning widely.
"Let's go already then!"
"That's the kind of energy I like seeing." Minato grinned, ruffling his hair fondly. "Alright, did you pack everything you need?"
"Yeah!" He had an orange backpack full of spare clothes and his nightwear.
He was ready.
They felt stares on them, as they walked in the Uchiha district.
Naruto gulped, seeing some even glare at them. "Why are they so angry." the boy whispered, leaning closer to his dad.
Minato narrowed his eyes warningly at the people glaring, making them look away.
"Ignore them." The previous Hokage said. Though, he couldn't shake the weird feeling in his chest.
They were mostly glaring at Minato, not Naruto.
Never had he seen an Uchiha glare at one of the village leaders.
He shook his head. Minato didn't care what they thought of him, as long as they left Naruto out of it.
A small smile appeared on his lips when he saw Fugaku's home. "Look Naruto, that's their home over there." He pointed at a beautiful, traditional house.
"That's where Sasuke lives?" Naruto's eyes widened in awe. "Woah, is his clan important?"
"The Uchiha are one of the most feared and respected clans in the entire Shinobi world."
"Really? Is that why Sasuke's such a good Shinobi?"
The older man nodded. "The Uchiha are full of prodigies, I wouldn't be surprised if Sasuke was also one."
Another question popped in Naruto's mind. "What clan are you from?" His dad was really powerful. He must be from the best clan in the whole world!
"None." The Fourth Hokage said simply, shocking the small boy. He was about to ask more questions, many coming to mind, when they stopped in front of the front door of the house.
Minato walked to it and knocked.
Naruto felt his palms get sweaty. But he quickly reminded himself that there was nothing to be scared about.
They were his mom and dad's friends.
They were good people.
Still, he watched nervously as the door opened, revealing an older teenager who looked a lot like Sasuke.
Itachi's eyes fell on Naruto for a moment, before they went up to the Hokage.
He bowed out of respect, making Minato chuckle.
"Hello, Itachi." Minato's eyes crinkled in a friendly smile. "You sure have grown since I last saw you."
"Lord Fourth." Itachi smiled politely. "It is very good to see you." he said, meaning every word.
"Please Itachi, call me Minato." He said, tilting his head slightly. "Are your parents inside?"
Itachi nodded, before peeking back inside and shouting, "Naruto is here!"
Mikoto walked out first, an excited grin on her lips. "Minato! Naruto!"
Fugaku appeared behind her. A small, friendly smile on his tired face.
"Mikoto, Fugaku." Minato smiled, grabbing the shy Naruto who was hiding behind his cloak. "Here's my dear son."
"Oh my..." Mikoto let out a loud gasp, when she saw him. His big blue eyes peeked at her shyly, behind his yellow locks.
"He's so cute!"
She hadn't seen the boy in years. She heard everything about him, but distanced herself from the kid.
She felt really guilty but the Third Hokage had ordered them to not get close to Naruto, for safety reasons.
Oh Kushina, your son is so damn adorable. She blinked her tears away, not wanting to cause a scene.
Naruto looked up and waved nervously, before looking back away, his cheeks reddening. By now everyone had come outside, including Sasuke, and were looking at him like a creature who had come from another planet.
Itachi was smiling at him kindly. He had a soft spot for kids, and Naruto was especially adorable.
Sasuke was gazing at Naruto, bored.
Why were they fussing so much over the loser?
Fugaku stepped up to Minato. "There's so many urgent matters that I need to discuss with you." A smile tugged at his lips. "But, I suppose it can wait, considering the severity of your mission."
The Fourth Hokage had told Fugaku everything about the masked man and his mission.
Minato felt like he deserved to know about it, considering it was a rogue Uchiha.
"I appreciate it Fugaku, we will talk about everything when I get back." He promised the Uchiha leader, before turning around to face Naruto.
"Hey." he kneeled in front of the nervous boy and kissed him on the forehead.
He could see Naruto's lips tremble and frowned. "It's okay, you're in safe hands."
A worried Mikoto pushed past Fugaku and walked a little closer to the two blondes.
"Naruto, everything will be okay." She reassured him, a warm smile on her face. "Me and your mom were best friends, you know? Nothing bad will happen."
Naruto nodded, feeling stupid. Her smile along with the fact that she was his mom's best friend made all his worries seem so insignificant now.
"Okay... I'm sorry."
"Nothing to be sorry about, honey." Mikoto said, before turning around to look at Sasuke.
"Sasuke, why don't you show Naruto around the house, while we say goodbye to Minato."
Sasuke rolled his eyes, puffing out his cheeks. "Do I have to?"
Itachi kicked him on his shin, making him squeak. "Ow!"
"Fine. Come on loser-"
"Sasuke, watch your mouth!" Fugaku yelled, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.
The youngest family member held back the urge to roll his eyes again and sighed. "Follow me, Naruto."
Naruto nodded, he looked back at his dad one last time. "Please be safe." he said, trying his best to mask the fear in his voice.
"I will." Minato shot him a confident grin. "Go enjoy your time with Sasuke, I'll be back before you know it."
With a final look and a reluctant nod, Naruto walked inside, following the Uchiha.
They adults said their last goodbyes, and the family were about to walk back inside when Minato's voice stopped them.
"Mikoto, Fugaku. May I have a word with Itachi real quick, before I go?"
The Uchiha teen looked up, surprised. What did the Fourth Hokage want with him?
"Yes, of course." Mikoto said, smiling and grabbing Fugaku's hand. She led him inside, giving the two privacy.
"Itachi." Minato began, eyes intense, making Itachi a little nervous. "I heard you've become a very strong Shinobi during the years I was away."
Itachi shrugged, trying to hide the blush on his cheeks. "I'm okay."
Minato smiled at him, seeing through his modesty. "Well, I have a favor to ask from you. You think you can help me?"
Itachi immediately nodded, how could he deny the opportunity to work for the legendary Shinobi.
"I want you to look after Naruto, make sure no one tries anything while I'm gone."
Itachi's eyes widened. "People are after the boy?"
Minato pursed his lips. "I can't say for sure, but I've got a weird gut feeling."
The Uchiha nodded resolutely, bowing. "Nothing will happen to your son while you're gone, you have my word!"
"Great!" Minato shot him a thankful grin. "I'm counting on you, Itachi."
"What's up with that look on your face, loser?" Sasuke asked, after he was done showing Naruto around.
They were now in his room, waiting for dinner.
Naruto sat down on Sasuke's big bed, admiring the softness and just the overall quality of it for a moment.
"I'm worried about my dad." He admitted, looking down at his hands. "I'm scared something bad will happen to him in his mission."
"He's the Fourth Hokage, I'm sure he'll be fine." Sasuke replied, sitting down on a chair that he had pulled up. "Did he say what the mission was?"
"No." Naruto shook his head. "That's why I'm worried."
Sasuke's lips curled. "My Dad and Itachi never tell me anything about their missions, either."
The yellow-haired boy looked at the Uchiha, an eyebrow raised. "I didn't know you had a brother, until now."
"Hn."
"Does he train you? Is that why you're so strong?"
"No!" Sasuke spat out. "He never trains me, he's always too busy doing something whenever I ask!"
Naruto tilted his head, scratching his head. "Then how did you get so strong?"
"I'm an Uchiha." he said, like it explained everything.
Naruto thought back to his conversation with his dad, and nodded.
"How are you still so bad?" Sasuke shot back, lips twitching into a smirk.
"I'm not bad!" Naruto spluttered. "I'll surpass you soon, you'll see!" he exclaimed, pointing a finger aggressively at the other boy.
"That's never going to happen, dead last." Sasuke rolled his eyes, small arms crossed over his chest.
"It is going to happen! I'm also gonna become the Hokage when I'm older!" Naruto continued, before he smirked. "And you'll be working under me, I'll make you my chore boy!"
Sasuke's eyes widened in outrage. "Shut up! That would never happen, not even in your wildest dreams!"
"It will happen!"
"It won't!"
"It will!"
"Naruto, Sasuke! Dinner is ready!" Mikoto's lovely voice rang out, putting a stop to their bickering.
Sasuke whirled around with a huff and walked away.
Naruto followed after him, grinning triumphantly. He definitely won that.
"Everybody here?" Minato's voice boomed, grabbing the assasination squad's attention.
They were gathered outside the Konoha village, getting ready to battle the masked man.
Minato wore his old Shinobi headband and the same exact outfit he wore on the day of the Nine tails attack, except for the Hokage cloak.
The team of masked Anbu nodded in confirmation.
Kakashi nodded as well, a little slower. If he was being honest, he was a little on edge.
The guy they were up against was no joke.
He was way above all the opponents Kakashi had faced. But, he pushed his nerves down. After all, he had Minato with him.
"What do you want us to do exactly, when we get there?" One of the Anbu asked, her voice timid.
She was there on the day the village got attacked by the Nine tails. She was mostly out of harm's way, but she could never forget the bone-chilling aura around the village.
She was only a child then, but she remembered it so vividly.
They were dealing with someone, way out of their league.
Minato shot her a calm smile, trying to ease her nerves. "As soon as I teleport us there, I want you guys to stand close behind me and let me deal with him. You stay as back up, in case I need you."
"Stay alert at all times. He might try to attack some of you to throw me off." He ordered.
The Fourth Hokage looked at the white-haired Jonin next. "Kakashi. Uncover your sharingan immediately, be prepared to go all out."
Kakashi's eye widened but he nodded. "Yes, sensei."
"We can't afford to make any mistakes." Minato clarified. "If he sucks any of you in his dimension, It's over. I can't get you back from there. So be very careful."
He took in a deep breath. "Are you guys ready?" Minato asked them, his eyes darkening.
Their muscles tensed and some gulped, but they were as ready as they ever would be.
"Everyone! Hold on to me!"
"Let's get this bastard." was the last words Minato said, before they disappeared in a yellow flash.
"Hmm, something weird is going on." A deep, rich voice stated.
"Is everything okay, Madara?" The Zetsu next to the masked man, wondered.
They were currently in one of the Akatsuki bases. The other members were looking for the tailed beasts locations and gathering intel, leaving Madara alone.
White Zetsu was keeping him company.
Madara was about to respond when suddenly, a yellow flash lit up the dark room.
Opening his eyes, he saw his dead Sensei standing in front of him, looking enraged.
His eyes widened impossibly wide, behind the orange mask he wore.
"How..." he breathed out, his voice shaking a little.
Minato noticed the weird white creature trying to escape. He disappeared, before appearing above it, in an instant.
"You're not going anywhere."
The Zetsu screeched as Minato stabbed It's skull, ending his life then and there.
Obito was sweating bullets at this point. Not only was his sensei back, but he was pissed.
Shaking his head, he gathered his composure and let out a dark chuckle. "So, you're back from the dead?"
Minato didn't bother responding to that. Instead he started slowly, and menacingly, walking toward Obito.
"Kakashi, stay sharp! Don't allow him to sneak up on you." The Yellow Flash commanded, not even taking his eyes off the masked man.
"I will deal with him."
I'm sorry for ending it on a cliffhanger, but honestly, I need more time to write the fight between Minato and Obito.
