Chapter 1: The Drawing Challenge
One cold second Saturday of January 2024, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri along with some of my other best friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett, as well as Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson at the 61C Cafe in Squirrel Hill for our drawing challenge. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We listened to Kate Bush, Lizzo, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees as well as a song or two from the SiriusXM radio station Pop2K while working together. "It is amazing how long we have been friends," I stated. "We met at our parents' wedding at Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church," Sarah stated. "We had our honors banquet there, too," James agreed. "I got to eat pasta and salad for the very first time," Henri happily stated. "I made a wish on a star Tuesday night in the South Hills to have our good memories of 2023 and long-lasting friendship continue into the new year of 2024," I told everyone. "A year ago, we went stargazing in Upper St. Clair and I made this same wish. I also made a wish to have more delightful weather in 2024 due to the strong El Nino in the Pacific!" "I enjoyed meeting you for the first time, too, Angel," Carly happily stated. "Did you still have a passion for art like you do now?" Spencer asked. "She still loved to draw pictures and make crafts," Mr. Benson stated. "That reminds me," I stated. "Do you guys want to draw a picture?" "Sure," Sarah replied. Sarah got the blue crayon, Carly got the red crayon, and Alex got the yellow crayon. "You know, I like art too, but a different kind of art," Alex stated. "We all know how much I love music!" "I loved performing at a football game where Angel got to see us for the first time," Justin happily stated. "Same here," Max stated. "Similar to my other fundraisers for band, I am making my own fundraiser for my birthday on Tuesday!" Sarah drew and colored in a blue square, Carly drew and colored in a red triangle, and Alex drew and colored in a yellow circle. Then, Sarah colored her blue crayon over Carly's red triangle to make purple, Carly colored her red crayon over Alex's yellow circle to make orange, and Alex colored her yellow crayon over Sarah's blue square to make green. "I wonder what the boys like to draw, if anything," I stated. "I am just going to hang these secondary color shapes on our refrigerator." Pretty soon, it was time for all of us to leave. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
