Elizabeth loved her family. Her older brother, Steven was her best friend (with the expectation of Jessica of course but Jessica was her twin sister). One day her cell phone rang at dinner.

"It's my volunteer job," Elizabeth said, "I have to get it."

"Okay honey," Alice said.

Elizabeth picked up the phone.

"Hello? Oh yes… of course. So I would need to go through a… uh-huh. Well, how would they get it? Absolutely," Elizabeth said, "I'll see you tomorrow at 8 AM."

She hung up.

"What was that all about," Jessica asked.

"I'll tell you later," Elizabeth said.

Later that night when Jessica and Elizabeth were in bed Jessica asked her again about that call.

"That was the hospital," Elizabeth explained, "I'm a match to Trisha. My bone marrow matches hers. So I'm going to donate my bone marrow to her tomorrow."

"Wow," Jessica said, "That's amazing. You know you have to tell Mom and Dad right? Steve too."

"Jess-"

"You have to, Elizabeth," Jessica said firmly.

"Fine," Elizabeth replied.

She found her parents and brother in the den. They were watching TV but shut it off when Elizabeth entered the room.

"What's on your mind honey," Ned asked.

"Do you remember how I got a phone call at dinner?" Elizabeth asked.

"Of course," Alice replied, "It was from your volunteer job."

"Actually," Elizabeth said, "It was from the hospital. When I found out Trish was sick, I got my bone marrow tested. My bone marrow is a full match to Trisha's so I'm donating my bone marrow to her tomorrow after school."

Steven looked up with tears in his eyes.

"Liz," he said, "This is so generous of you."

"It really is," Ned remarked, "But are you sure about this?"

"I know that it's going to hurt to make this donation," Elizabeth remarked, "But it would hurt Steven if his girlfriend died. I can't let that happen if I can prevent it."

"That's incredible," Alice stated, "I raised one amazing young lady."

"You raised TWO amazing young ladies and one amazing young man," Ned corrected with a smile.

"Steven is the best big brother ever," Elizabeth said, "Now it's my turn to play "big sister" to him."

"You aren't going to school tomorrow," Alice said.

"It's not like I'm sick," Elizabeth pointed out.

"I agree with your mom," Ned said gently.

"Okay," Elizabeth sighed

"Can I stay home from school tomorrow too," Jessica asked coming into the den.

"That depends," Ned said with a gentle teasing smile, "Are you donating your bone marrow to Steve's boyfriend"

Jessica laughed.

"I get the point," she said.

"Besides don't you have a class trip tomorrow," Alice asked.

"Oh yeah," Jessica brightened.

The next day at six PM Elizabeth went to the hospital.

"We're going to put you out," Dr. Marite explained, "But it's going to hurt for awhile."

Elizabeth shrugged.

"That's fine," she said.

Steven kissed her forehead.

"I love you Liz," he said.

"I love you too," Elizabeth replied.
