"Hah! Hah! Hah!"
Settled comfortably and in a heated exchange in the cockpit of a spaceship, two boys fought as they exchanged jabs, parries, and blows, before they disengaged, studying each other's movements, before they once more engaged.
Once more, they engaged. One of the onyx haired boys attempted an armlock around the other's outstretched fist to pummel him in the face, only for his foe to block, and felt his stomach turn inward painfully an elbow collided with his chest, sending him back. "Oof!"
The first boy smirked as he crossed his arms in a cocky gesture with his assured win. "First blow! That means I win!"
The other boy scowled, running a hand through his messy locks of hair that was somewhat reminiscent of a porcupine. "Ugh, again! Come on, Vegeta! Let's go again!"
The boy shrugged, "First blow, that was the rules, Goku!" He turned to the female occupant watching. "Right, Grandma Pan?"
Both turned to the sole female occupant, her grey hair and face aligned with heavy wrinkles on her face, despite her short stature, she carried a wisdom that both knew surpassed them.
She nodded in agreement to his inquiry. "Those were them rules, Vegeta!" She turned to her lineage and blood, her grandson. "You gotta stop fighting relaxed, Goku!"
The other boy, Goku, sighed, nodding. "I know, Grandma! I'm still not used to the Turtle School martial arts yet!"
It had been frustrating after his Grandma Pan suggested both boys, having little to no practical experience, enroll in Master Roshi's Turtle School following their fight in the tournament, with Vegeta winning.
While Vegeta had picked it up quickly, being a prodigy as his mother, Bulma Leigh, had said, Goku still wasn't quite used to it, despite the immense potential as Pan had known her young grandson had as his great grandfather and her own father and uncle had, Goku was still, as Master Roshi had said it, greener than the small amounts of grass on his island. He had the same problem that his own great grandpa had, and that was his relaxed stance and posture. While it made him more free flowing and "to go with the flow", it had made him far too open.
Vegeta did not share this, being like his own namesake, a prodigy that studied and constantly thought out patterns and fighting tactics or martial arts.
Despite his mood turning slightly down, he was immediately proud as she spoke once more. "But ya are getting the hang of Master Roshi's style. Yer grandpa and Krillin didn't have it much easy either and had to do workloads for their bodies before he taught them anything! If this memory o mine serves me right, you're doing much better than yer great grandpa was when he began!"
A voice chortled from within, as he stumbled into the main cockpit, belching as he took a swig. "Your grandma Pan is right, youngin! Eat well, rest well, train well, and learn well!" The venerable Master Roshi, donning a loose sleeved shirt and his beard and mustache, smirked behind it, giving a thumbs up. "Remember! Keep it in moderation! Ya may think yer ready, but ya not until yer on the battlefield! There will always be someone stronger than you!"
Both boys nodded as they stood up, remembering the words. While both, especially Vegeta Jr, had moments of cockiness and self assured confidence, they would not let themselves have a bloated head to think they were invincible.
Pan clapped her hands. "Master Roshi is right! Enough for today, ya both get some chow and rest!"
Eager to fill their bellies and appetite, both boys nodded in agreement, until Pan called out. "Ah! Goku! Wait here for a moment! Vegeta, go ahead with Roshi!"
Vegeta glanced at Goku and nodded, smirking. "Better hurry, Goku, else I'll eat everything!" He followed Master Roshi to where the dining area of their ship was.
Goku returned it, before he turned back to his grandmother. "Grandma Pan, what is it?"
She smiled, "I suppose now is the time. Wait here, kiddo!" Taking a path out of the training vicinity, she turned back to her room. Goku could make out the sounds of shuffling before she finally returned. "Here ya go, kiddo!"
Goku took it. It was something tall wrapped in a piece of cloth, with a rope attached that held the blanket in place. He glanced curiously back and forth between his grandma and what she gave him. "What is this, grandma?"
"Open it, and you'll see."
Goku did as she told him, pulling the strings and blanket away to reveal what was underneath. His eyes widened in shock and joy. "This… this can't be-! Grandma!" His eyes turned up to her, tears of happiness on his face. He reached out to hug her.
"Happy birthday, kiddo." She returned it.
Held in his hands was the crimson ruby familiar color of his great grandfather's Power Pole. "I can't believe it!" He proudly examined the staff in his hands once more, as if he couldn't believe he was given a token and legacy of his great grandfather's past and bloodline, yet also held it as if it was made of glass and fragile. "Great Grandpa Goku's Power Pole! I… You're… It's mine now?!"
She chuckled, running a hand through his messy locks. "Forget it was your birthday? I promised you that I would give you something for your birthday!"
Goku grinned widely, "Ah! Yeah! Ever since we left Earth, I just didn't keep track! It feels like years since we were stuck in here even though it's only been a few months! It's really my birthday?!"
She smiled, "Regardless, it's all yours now!"
Goku hugged her once more. "This is the best birthday ever! Thank you so much, Grandma! I promise I'll never let you or my great grandpa down!" Releasing it, he examined the staff as if a relic of the past, and one of the few only connections to one of the greatest heroes of Earth, never mind his blood. "I can't believe it! I'll cherish it forever! I'll never leave it out of my sight!"
Pan chuckled once more. "Well kiddo. Go on and eat with Vegeta. I'll check on Buck to see if he needs anything to eat or rest!"
"Ah right!" Goku scrambled eagerly out of the room, Pan chuckling as she followed the way out.
Before Goku could leave for supper, he decided to enter his room first. A reminder flashed through his head.
Opening his door hatch, he went up to the podium, where laid the orange hued Four Star Dragon Ball, the four red stars proudly shimmering off the surface.
Bowing in front of it, he clasped his hands together in a form of a prayer, and spoke to it, gazing intently at the Dragon Ball. "Grandpa, I fought a match with Vegeta. He won again! And it's just as Grandma Pan told me, Master Roshi's training is really really tough and hard! I'm still having a bit of trouble with ki control and his Turtle School martial arts! I'll get there though!"
He paused, as if to let the Dragon Ball register his words, then spoke once more. "Grandma Pan gave me something really awesome!" Holding it up, he spoke. "It's your Power Pole! Grandma says it's my birthday today, and I forgot since it's been a long time since we traveled!"
"Oi, Goku! Hurry your furry butt here or else I'll eat all the shrimp dumplings!" Vegeta's voice called out from the cockpit, and Goku could already imagine them being devoured by his best friend and rival.
Ah, no! Not them! Goku placed the Power Pole under his bed for safekeeping, then turned back to the Dragon Ball. "Grandpa, I'm gonna go eat now! I'll talk to you later!"
He scrambled out of his room and to where the others were waiting.
After a hearty and satisfying meal, Goku watched outside the cockpit window, seeing the many stars and constellations and various planets as they passed by in the training room.
"Couldn't sleep, Goku?"
Goku turned to see his pudgy friend and navigator of their ship, aptly named The Grand Tour. "Buck! What are you doing up?"
Buck smiled, grinning. "Same reason you can't sleep, I guess?" He wrinkled his nose slightly. "Ah the fresh smell of sweat that permeates through this room!"
Goku laughed, as he looked out the window, recounting the events from his grandmother's past. "Grandma Pan used to tell me she, my great uncle Trunks, and my great grandpa Goku used to travel out here a long time ago seeing many different planets and many people! It's just so daunting that we're doing the same!"
Buck nodded, recalling everything he was told by Goku's grandmother. "If I ever had to guess you and Vegeta were a miniscule of alien in your blood, I would have to think the entire world was ending!"
Goku laughed as he lightly shoved Buck. "You're kidding!"
The two childhood friends shared a laugh, before Buck glanced at him. "Well, in all honesty, I'm really glad I got to meet you Goku! My parents wouldn't believe an ounce of this! I'm glad we somehow managed to convince them that I'm traveling with you and your grandmother to Egypt for a few years! Definitely think a phone doesn't work in outer space so…" He held up his mobile phone.
The two friends watched the stars and constellations pass, before Buck spoke up. "Let's go to bed, huh? A new adventure and journey still awaits us!"
"Yeah!"
Both departed for their own rooms, to where they would, unbeknownst to them, arrive in a new world.
A new and exciting world for them to discover, with friends and enemies to make!
Some notes before future and following chapters:
-Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr, along with Buck, and an elderly Pan and Master Roshi, will be the main characters. Very loose references of prior Z Fighters, characters, and events.
-I give Goku Jr the Power Pole, because he is the legacy of Goku. Honestly, I felt like it was a miss in Hero's Legacy as much as I love the OVA, and that Goku should've left it behind knowing Goku Jr is the last of him.
-Only the first base SSJ transformation and multiplier will be applied, so no transformation beyond the base SSJ. However, only some DBS lore will be referenced or used in the crossover. However, no Beerus or Whis. This story will be based largely on DBGT's lore with only a few additions from DBS.
-To add to this, I'm taking heavy creative liberties, because its fanfiction, Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr will not access SSJ at will, unfortunately, ignoring GT's final episode where both seemingly mastered and can access it at will. In this AU story, they both fought in base forms only following the World Martial Arts Tournament, and Goku Jr immediately forgets about his SSJ transformation after defeating Lord Yao, only instinctively activating it out of rage.
-Story takes place after GT's final episode and the OVA A Hero's Legacy, following Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr's fight in the World Martial Arts Tournament and the former meeting Goku.
