Hi! i've been busy lately, an exam and some projects kept me from writing this chapter for a while.

Anyway i'm back, i hope you enjoy this chapter!

follow your heart

Kat, that was the name Syd had given her, and it made her very happy!

the feeling reminded her of when she finally got the pipe house to look exactly how she wanted it to, now it didn't matter who she was, this belonged to her, both her home and her new name.

Well nickname, her boss had been very clear on telling her that she should still go by Alua whenever she introduced herself to anyone since that was her real name, at least in the eyes of the law.

She said that only her friends should call her Kat which at this time meant that only Syd and maybe Mr Takeo would be using that name, her boss had refused to do so, she said something along the lines of being unable to do so because she was her boss and it would be unprofessional of her to use a nickname on her employee.

She wanted to argue that she felt more comfortable with her new nickname that her actual name but she got a feeling that doing so would only get her in trouble and she simply didn't want that, her mind was already busy trying to reach a decision.

"To become a hero or not" she said while looking to the beach in front of her home, Dusty at her side, if he heard her he gave no indication of doing so.

She understood why her boss thought it was a good idea, she had already told her that she would only be allowed to work at the restaurant if she also focused on her studies, she still wasn't sure why her boss was so fixated on her education but now with the possiblity of going to a UA, not only a hero school but one of the best schools she could possiblity go to her boss would probably want her to go there so she could hold her end of the deal.

Maybe she could get in trouble for having an employee without studies?

She had also given her good reasons she would have to get into UA, the heroes there could help her, not only with learning to control her quirk, they might also be able to help her find her home.

a real home, with a family and friends beside her!

Ms Nakamura told her that if she made it into UA she could use the "sports festival" as a way to make herself known, since apparently it was a very important event her friends or family could recognize her should she appear in it and finally learn who she really was.

It all sounded great if she was being honest but that's also were the problems started.

Apparently hundreds of students from all across the country took the exam to become a part of the heroics department in UA but only about 40 of them were accepted each year, those being the best, not only in theorical knowledge but also those who were the most efficient with their quirks.

Oh she remembered how she felt when she saved that kid the day she woke up in that playground, she was scared, but saving that kid's life was something she would never regret, if being a hero meant helping more people then she could safely say that she would actually enjoy becoming one, but the problem remained, so far the tests she had done for her boss had not been good, and while working on the pipe house had helped her control her powers a bit more she wasn't sure if her control of her quirk was that great yet.

As for the theorical knowledge, well that was another can of worms in itself, she's been getting better at it, but that was going slowly, and with only 3 months left before the UA entrance exam not only did she have to make that choice soon, but she would also have to get better at... pretty much everything before that day came.

Training to use her quirk would probably be the easy part, she could use her quirk to float the trash around her house everyday until her quirk became stronger, but she would have to be carefull.

it seemed like someone else had decided to clean the beach, it was not obvious at first but after living there for a month she started to notice how some things that were on the beach before would dissapear one day.

She didn't know who was doing that, she had never seen them, some things would just be there when she left for work and be gone when she retuned home.

Not that she cared that much really, if anything it made her home look better

Whoever it was had completely ignored her home, either because of the curtains that covered the entrance or they simply didn't want to enter her home, nevertheless she'd still have to be careful, if whoever was cleaning the area saw her using her quirk they could report it to the police, or even worse if she was not careful she could accidentaly hit them with a flying object by accident and she would be in real trouble then.

Last time the police were kind enough to let her go with only a warning but if she hurts anyone she would probably end up in real trouble.

"What do you think Dusty? should i try to become a hero?"

"Meow" said the cat giving her an expession that told her that he wasn't really interested in this conversation.

"You know what? forget i asked" she said as she got up from the floor and closed the curtains that served as a door to her home before making her way to her bed, Dusty following behind her.

"Well whatever the case we need to sleep"

"Meow"

"Good night Dusty" said Kat while she placed her head on a pillow and closed her eyes.

"Purrrrrrrr" said Dusty laying right by her side.

They both fell asleep quickly.

But she didn't rest well, she had a nightmare.

one that had been present in her mind for the last couple of days.

She was falling across the sky, Dusty was not with her, and the only other thing in that sky... a giant pillar... stretching as far as the eye could see.

"Hurry up Dusty, or we're gonna be late!!!" Said Kat while running as fast as she could, her nightmares kept waking her up at night and when she finally managed to stay asleep she had overdone it and ended up waking up at 2:38 pm, she was going to be late if she didn't run all the way to the restaurant.

"Mreow" Said Dusty clearly annoyed at the situation.

"I know, i'm sorry, we'll get an alarm clock now, i promise!" The girl didn't stop, she kept running until suddenly and out of nowhere someone pulled her back when she was about to cross a street.

"Stay back, it's dangerous here!" said whoever it was pulling her back.

she took a second to see what was going on around her and she saw the reason for this commotion.

a villain was causing a ruckus, there were some heroes there too, she recognized some of them there was Kamui Woods and Mt Lady and some others she didn't recognize but they seemed to be unable to do much for the moment, the villain seemed to have a quirk that turned his body into water, and holding her back was a police officer, she had shiny green hair and eyes.

"Please stay back here until the heroes handle the situation" said the officer in a loud but kind voice making sure she could be heard loud and clear while placing herself in front of kat, her eyes set on the villain.

however this seemed to have a negative effect, the villain heard her voice and turned towards them, his body quickly turned into a sort of wave that passed trough the heroes and made it's way to them, submerging the officer Dusty and her in a second.

Everything was spining around her, trough the water she could hear a voice, it sounded angry but the water kept her form understanding any word, she caught glimpses of both Dusty and the officer from before, she had not been ready for being pulled into the water so she didn't have much air left in her.

what do i do? was the question repeating itself on her mind over and over again.

And on that moment she made her choice.

if Dusty and i use our power we'll be able to fly out of here! we can even grab that police officer from before, and let the heroes do their job without us in the middle! yes!!!

She quickly called on Dusty's power and she caught a glimpse of his body vanishing into a black smoke like form, her body soon starting to gain a bright red glow.

however what happened was not exactly what she expected, the moment her quirk activated the water around her was... pushed a bubble of air forming around her, the officer was there too, she was floating, and after a second she started to cough some water.

"Are you alright?" asked Kat trying to get a little bit closer to the woman but for some reason the bubble moved with her and the woman as well.

"Yeah, i just need a second... thank you" said tge officer while taking a deep breath.

"This wasn't what i expected to happen, but i think i can get us out of here, but it's gotta be quick, i can only do this for another minute or so!" said Kat while looking at the officer.

"Do it!" said the woman.

"I'll fly to you but i might push you with my quirk, try to grab on to me and i'll do the same!"Said Kat, giving a quick explanation of her plan.

The officer gave a quick nod and prepared herself.

Kat then moved forward, pushing the water and the woman for a second before she extended her hand towards the officer, who very quickly reacted to the motion and tried to reach out too.

She got a hold on her hand and used all of her strenght to keep moving forward until they made it out of the water.

As soon as they made it out she kept moving forward to make enough distance between them and the villain until a few seconds later her power ran out, the officer, the now reformed Dusty and her found themselves crashing into the ground at high speeds, let's just say she's probably gonna have a bruise on her side for a few days.

As soon as they made it out some other officers pulled them back and she heard the heroes move, apparently in the 90 seconds or so that they spent in the water another hero had arrived, one with an ice quirk and he was making quick work of the villain.

"Thank you, you saved my life" those words put a stop to her thoughs, turning around she saw the officer, trying to get back on her feet, some of officers around them placing towels around both of them and Dusty, but she wasn't paying attention to that.

'you saved my life' kept repeating itself on her head, sure the villain had heard her because she tried to keep her safe in the first place, but what would have happened if she wasn't there, would the villain have attacked the officer, would the heroes have been able to save her or would she have drowned?

the more she kept thinking of this the more an idea formed on her mind.

maybe, just maybe i know what to do next.

"What were you thinking? doing something so reckless, now of all times!" said Ms Nakamura in an angry voice.

turns out she didn't get in trouble for being late, she did however get in trouble for using her quirk in public... again.

"I was just trying to help! i panicked and used my quirk in the water, but the officer told me to pull her out!" she defended herself, the heroes and officers that watched over them after the event were very annoyed at her intervention, and although they calmed a little after the police officer she got out of the water told them that she told her to get them out of there they still gave her angry and annoyed looks.

That seemed to be the wrong thing to tell her boss because her eyes suddenly look even more angry.

"Oh so that makes it all okay? the police are already helping us with this whole thing, but if you keep getting in this kind of trouble they might stop helping us in finding your family! you could even end up in jail!"

"I'm sure i need to become an actual vigilante for that to happen" She responded in a quiet voice, unfortunately not quiet enough since based on Ms Nakamura's expression she had heard everything.

"Look, it won't happen again! that villain attacked us and i panicked, i wasn't the one that went looking for trouble here and... i want to be a hero!"

"What now?"

"I wasn't sure before, i mean the chance to find out who i was is great and all but i... wasn't sure i wanted to be a hero just for that but, now i've saved two lives, i know i shouldn't have done that, on both cases, but helping others, saving people! i want to do that!" she said while looking at her boss in the eyes with the most determined look she could muster.

And for a moment whatever anger Ms Nakamura had suddenly vanished for a second, but it was quickly replaced by a frustrated and tired look.

"Are you sure of this, there are other ways, i only suggested it as an option".

"I'm sure".

"... we'll meet on weekends at my house, you're still behind on your education, and we'll need to find a place for you to train your quirk, if you're going to do this, you'll have to be one of the best"

"Wait! you're going to help me?"

That's what i just said, now get out of my office and get to work, you are behind schedule as it is!" said her boss while giving her a look that said she had no patience for nonsense right now.

"yes ma'am!" she said quickly making her way out, not willing to annoy her any further.

"Behave Dusty! i'll see you in a few hours bye!!!!" she said as she closed the door behind her.

"...Huh, what do i do with that girl..." She's glad she's safe, obviously, but if she keeps getting into trouble that might not be the case for much longer, and now the hero thing.

She had no doubt that if Alua wanted to be a hero then she would become one, nothing would stop her and that's what worried her.

without a guardian or a family to show her what she could and couldn't do then that 'nothing will stop her' would either land her in far more trouble than she could deal with or if she became a hero then she might end in an early grave, an option that she didn't particularly like.

if helping her train and study for the heroics department was the only way she could help that kid to be safe, at least in some extent then so be it.

"Meow" said the cat Dusty while watching her from the corner of her office, he had watched the whole interaction without moving a muscle until now that he was giving her a look, one that at least to her looked like he was telling her 'i know what you're doing'

"...shut up, i need to work" she said as she watched the cat pull his mouse toy and start to play with it.

Oh this are going to be some long days.

Kat has always had the heart of a hero, she just needed a push to realize it

Hey, i was gone for like...a month, sorry about that, i've been busy, unfortunately i bring bad news, i've got a project that i've got to deliver in about a month, while i'll try to finish the next chapter before that i don't think i'll be able to finish it until i'm done with the project.

i thought you people deserved at least a warning if i vanish for a while.
