Hi, so here is the sequel to Perhaps Love! I am so excited to get this out and finish Season 5-7.

So...the usual. This will not be episode specific, certain episodes will be skipped. Dialogue will not be the same. If that's something you look for in a story then please don't start because you won't get it here.

Also in my West Wing Universe Sam doesn't leave and Ainsley joins full time. Will is in the story...so far...Mandy is not and never will be. Andy had Toby's babies via embryo's not by sex. Also Jake is bisexual.

Pairings are CJ/Toby (eventually) Josh/Donna, Sam/Ainsley, Jed/Abby.

Disclaimer-Nothing but Jacob is mine.

It is advised that you read Perhaps Love before you read this.

And this is 28 chapters long.

And there will always be swearing in this story. If this offends you then please don't read.

Also I do not do Private Messaging anymore, any questions stick them in a review and I will get back to you next chapter note.

And look...I don't like Amy. I don't like her. Nothing against the actress but as a feminist, pro choice woman (and damn proud of it) she was so annoying. In Season 5 I skip her scenes because she doesn't get it. No disrespect to anyone who likes her but she was wrong for Josh and wrong for the show. Sorry, not sorry. That's just my opinion, you are of course completely entitled to yours.

Trigger Warnings for Forced Outing.

Future Perfect

Chapter 3-Trouble The Water

Leo (not for the first time) wonders why he took this job. And then he finds the kid in the corner of his office hiding.

Not for the first time Leo wondered why he had taken this job, the stress was almost unbearable, the people stupid and that was before you got to the hours. Leo was not sure when he had slept more than a couple of hours over the course of the week and you could forget about a social life—not that he had one before that mind you but he and Jenny would occasionally be the guest of some bigshot. He had learnt that while he couldn't drink he could eat his weight in those little cream cheese potato puff things.

But seriously this was why Abby was onto something when she suggested his heart wouldn't keep up with the rest of the job! He had left the communications bullpen in hysterics. Jed was dealing with Amy…and woe betide her when she was done with him in the mood he was in, Ginger, Donna, Margaret, Carol and Bonnie had all formed a protective link between CJ's office and Amy which could only mean one thing and that was nothing good. Josh, Sam and Charlie had dragged Toby into his office as one and then Josh had slammed the door and because someone had to run the country he had to go back to his office.

He sighed sitting down and then.

"Don't tell anyone I am here"

He did not jump into the air because Leo was a professional and he was also a war veteran. If his hand slipped to where his sidearm would have been forty years ago then that was between him and the desk. And Margaret because Margaret was freaky like that and she knew things about him that he didn't even know about himself.

There was a pause where he looked. Jake was sat on the floor hiding behind his desk near the door knees pressed up against his chest and his head resting on them.

He closed his eyes and then opened them again praying for strength.

"What are you doing?"

"I don't know…seemed like a good idea…and I can't hide in the Oval Office"

"No there is something about the guards outside the door—" Leo sighed and shut the door that led to Margaret's desk. The other door was shut and then he yanked out the chair next to the table and sat down staring at the kid.

"You okay?"

Jake opened his eyes and stared at him.

"That supposed to be a trick question?"

There was a pause as Leo stared at him. He was reminded suddenly of when Mallory had come back from the gym once when she was sixteen crying and barricading herself in the bathroom. Jenny had been out and Leo had been all for calling the FBI before Mallory had told him that she'd had her period in the middle of her yoga class and she was out of…stuff…that had been a memorable evening with Leo finding tampons and then making them ice cream because what else was he supposed to do? Mallory had hugged him and called him the Best Dad Ever and it had been one of those moments where the daily, hourly struggle that was sobriety had felt all worth it.

It was the same now. He had no idea what he was doing only that he was supposed to say something. He'd had no son, he'd had no experience with this, okay so sexuality had been rife while he had been in the services but he didn't know if that had been because they were about to die at any moment or if that was soldiers being soldiers. For all of Fox's news assurances that it didn't happen Leo knew that it did. And now with the legislation attached…he still didn't understand half of it.

He was too old for this shit.

"Kid…you know there's no shame in being gay don't you?"

"I'm not…not gay…Leo…I'm…I'm pretty sure I'm bisexual"

Leo had a binder on this somewhere he was sure of it.

"You like…both men and woman?"

Jake nodded. "I didn't…I didn't think of Harrison that way until it was right there in front of me…and I don't know…I don't know but it feels good when I'm with him…it's easier than when I was with Anna…I mean I know that I loved Anna too but…it fells more…real when I'm with Harrison. It's just easier"

Leo nodded. He thought he could understand that a little.

"Well…there's nothing wrong with that either" he said nodding. "So there's that"

Jake looked at him and then.

"Amy just told everyone in the bull pen that I was off sucking my boyfriends cock in the middle of a national crisis and you don't think there's anything wrong with that!"

Leo sighed…what the hell was it with the kids these days and the desire to put everything in a context that allowed him to see things that he couldn't wash away with alcohol.

"Was that what you were doing?"

"No"

"I don't want to know what you were doing" Leo said sternly "I don't want to know what you were doing with the kid on the White House property but…but there is nothing wrong with being with a man…or boy or…Harrison. Your not disgusting, you're not wrong, your character and your person and your being is still the same that it has always been. You are still a valued member of this administration. And your parents will love you no matter what"

Leo looked back at his paperwork and allowed the kid time to dry his face and then…

"I feel dirty. Like…like I lost something today"

"That's called choice kid, I felt the same when I realised I would have to talk about my sobriety, about Gibson"

"You didn't seem the way I feel"

"Years of practice" he said truthfully. Then he sighed. "No that's not it…I just…I knew that it was going to come out at some point I was just mad that I lost the right to choose when, and that's fine if you feel that way, you were outed Jake without your consent to people that you know and that is why the President is no doubt seeing Amy escorted out the building"

"He's firing her?"

If Leo knew Jed as well as he did he was doing more than firing her but he didn't think the kid needed to know that.

"Oh I'd say so" he said putting down his papers. "You're a member of this family of crackpots and woman Jake. And the President will always protect his family"

Jake opened his mouth and then.

"You think Mom and Dad will mind?"

"Nah" Leo said confidently. He wasn't confident of much when he came into this building each and every morning but he was confident of this much.

"Nah, and nobody else will be either. Hell Margaret will probably bake you a cake. And if your worried about press or Congress don't. Taking pot shots at other people's children feels different after Zoe. Even Halfley has a son and two daughters…my guess is that he wont bother with you"

"That doesn't make me feel better"

"It should" Leo said with a finality in his tone he usually reserved for Josh when he went too far off the reservation.

"Leo…is there something wrong—"

"Kid if you finish that sentence with me then I will beat you senseless. Love is love…and there is nothing wrong with loving who you love. The world is a bit better for it, and one day you will look back on this and you will be happy"

There was a braveness to the edge of his speech that he knew would help even if he didn't believe it himself. The truth was that it was hard in this world to be true to yourself, Leo knew that, admitting that he was an alcoholic had been hard but for all that he was judged for being one he knew that the world would judge Jake harsher and it wasn't fair. The kid was just loving who he loved…and so what? More love in this world was not a bad thing, to be honest they needed more of it to counteract the bad.

"Thanks Leo" Jake said finally rubbing a hand down his face.

"Your welcome kid"

"Can I stay here for a while?"

He looked so miserable and so woebegone that Leo felt sorry for him.

"I can pull up my drawbridge for an hour but then you have to go and see your parents."

"That means walking through the bullpen"

"Kid" Leo said finally. "The bullpen is fine"

Just to be on the safe side he thought eyeing the door where Margaret usually lurked behind…he was going to get her to check.

And then he was going to tell her that he was going to his weekly poker game. God knows he needed one.

The door where Leo came in opened. Jed cracked open an eye. He had snapped at Charlie not to have anyone disturb him for the next hour unless Russia were invading something and Charlie had nodded his face grave. He had slammed the door so much so he was sure he had damaged something and stolen a whole pack of cigarettes off Jones outside who had muttered.

"You tell her Sir" under his breathe as he had inhaled greedily like a drug addict getting his first hit.

"Sorry?"

"I got a boy about Jake's age" Jones said conversationally. "I'd like to think someone would do that for him."

"How long are you here tonight?" he'd asked because Abby had always stressed that normal conversation brought down one's heartrate.

"Till one, I took a cover for Mitchell"

"Why?"

"Cause it's his and his husband's fifth wedding anniversary" Jones had said with a wry smile.

That was it he'd thought patting the other man on the arm. He was getting the wives and the partners of the Secret Service agents in the room and getting them drunk.

As a thank you.

Leo stared at him and then.

"I'd pour you a scotch but I don't drink"

"You smoke?"

"Nope, gateway drug for me"

Damn Jed had forgotten.

"I wanted to tell you that I am going to my card game tonight"

"Oh"

"I told Josh to hold the fort so there is a very good chance that we will be at war when I come out but I just…I needed to tell someone I was going to a card game tonight"

Jed put down his cigarette.

"Do you feel the need to…you know?"

"Drink no. I just…the kid is in my office thinking that everyone outside must hate him and I don't…it's triggered me a little. I think of Mallory and if someone had done that to her and I think I want to scratch Amy's eyeballs out—I take it you fired her"

"Oh yeah"

"What are you gonna tell Abby?"

"Assuming she calls to ask me I will tell her what happened…if you think Abby's response to that would have been any different than mine…"

"Please I think Abby would have taken off her shoes and beaten Amy around the head with them until she had blood gushing from her ears"

Jed smiled around his scotch glass.

"You know you could take a week and go up and see her"

"She doesn't want to see me, and I don't blame her. I wouldn't want to see me. She…I don't know how this looks like for us going forwards, post Zoe…I've asked her to do a lot for me since I took office and her one caveat was that I didn't involve the kids and now…"

"Nobody could have seen this coming"

Jed nodded. It was a weak argument but it had been all that he had been telling himself over the course of the last couple of months.

"How's Jake?"

"Scared…I think he's worried about your reaction"

"What that he's gay?"

"Bisexual and yeah…and also…he wanted me to assure it was a make out session and it was after Zoe had been found and—"

"Oh Leo please…you think I don't know half of the staff use this place as a knocking shop? I know that baby of Sam's was conceived on Toby's couch, I know that Josh is one step away from throwing Donna down on his desk and going to town. I've thought about bending Abby—"

"JED!"

He chuckled. Leo sat down on the couch and then…

"Things will get better" he said confidently. Well…to anyone else it sounded confident…to Jed who had known Leo a long time he could hear the unsureness of it all bleeding through.

"I know" he said even though he didn't know.

"How long did you give the kid?"

"An hour"

"Aha…think we can have an hour too?"

Leo looked at him and then.

"I think we've earnt it"

Yeah Jed though swigging down the rest of the glass violently before standing up to pour himself another one.

Yeah he thought they had damn well earnt it too.

And there you go, hope you enjoy, I will try and update as soon as.
