Chief O'Brien, Lieutenant Commander Dax and Doctor Bashir are in the docking bay where the puddle jumper is being held. O'Brien scans the area with his tricorder to check if it's safe to enter. The scans say that's it safe and went in and approached the Puddle Jumper. Jadzia went in first scanning her way, she was getting no reading why the ship is offline but the zero point energy is coming from the cockpit.
"Whoever created the Alternate Reality Drive is a genius," Jadzia smiles as she stares at the puddle jumper with her jaw dropping to the floor like a kid in a candy store. "Scientists here would never think outside the box."
"That's because Federation scientist don't have to think outside the box," Bashir says, shaking his head. "We're not the ones who get to play with toys like this." He glances at O'Brien, who gives him a knowing look. "So, how do we get this thing back online?"
Meanwhile, Jadzia continues to study the cockpit controls, her fingers itching to try out the new technology. "It's amazingly simple," she says, running her hands over the familiar-looking flight controls. "I think I can get it started."
Miles O'Brien walks up the ramp of the puddle jumper, scanning with his tricorder to get a reading but got nothing on the tricorder readout. "Not picking up anything on my tricorder." He says as soon as he enters the ship; the ship itself comes to life. As Miles sat down on the pilot's seat, he swivels the chair to face the command console of the shuttle. Touch Screen panels begin to light up, displaying the shuttle instruments, guidance system and tactical system.
"What did you touch?" Jadzia asks.
"I didn't do anything." O'Brien replies. "My tricorder is reading zero point energy, and I can't get a fix on its location."
Sif shimmers on top of the cockpit console; which did not startle the three officers and looks at Miles O'Brien. "Chief, to operate this ship you must have an ancient gene."
"What gene?" Jadzia asks.
"The Ancient Technology Activation gene or ATA gene for short."
"You're saying that I have the gene to operate ships similar to this." O'Brien thought for a moment. "How cool is that?"
"Why?" Doctor Bashir asks, clearly surprised. "I've never heard of such a thing."
"It's a genetic key The ATA gene is always on, instructing various cells in the body to produce a series of proteins and enzymes. These interact with the skin, nervous system, and brain, enabling gene carriers to operate Ancient technology by thought alone." Sif explains. "And you Chief rank the highest."
"How can I prove that I have this gene?" Doctor Bashir asks, clearly intrigued.
"According to ship's sensors, you are not a carrier of the gene." SIf said as she glanced at Bashir. "Your readings are negative across the board."
That confuses Jadzia for a moment. "How is that possible?"
Bashir on the other hand scans his best friend with a medical scanner. "Huh."
"Huh what Julian?"
"The medical tricorder isn't reading anything." Bashir says, frowning.
Sif big holographic eyes looks at Bashir and uploaded the data from the medical tricorder. "Of course Dr. Bashir, Chief O'Brien ATA gene is fused to his DNA, your medical scanner is primitive." She says with a hint of condescension.
"Hey, it's not my fault we don't have access to that kind of technology." Bashir replies, defensively.
On the backseat side of the co-pilot side compartment, a 12 x 12 receptacle begins to synthesize a handheld device that Bashir took interest in. It is a handheld medical scanner that is half the size of a human hand and has a translucent screen that glows with a soft blue light.
"What's this?" Bashir asks, looking at the device curiously and grabs it from the receptacle. He turns it over in his hands, examining it carefully.
"It's a handheld medical scanner." Sif said. "It's a lot more advanced than the one you have."
"And that is your version of a replicator?" O'Brien asks, He glances at the medical scanner in Bashir's hand,
"I haven't been notified of any replicators in the vicinity." Sif turns her head towards Bashir with a worried look.
O'Brien pulls up a dossier of a replicator on the holographic heads-up display of a spider-like metal creature and human form. "Oh, he means a device that can synthesize food and inanimate objects from scratch."
"Oh, the Tau'ri Federation calls it Fabricator or synthesizer, not to confuse with a dead enemy." Sif clarifies with a hint of humor in her voice. "I can show you how to use it."
O'Brien scrolls through technical specs of the puddle jumper on the holographic HUD and comes up with a blinking alert that needs immediate attention. He pressed the alert, the HUD flickers to another system program called STORED BEAM MEMORY BUFFER, and it was blinking 4 individual life signs. As O'Brien taps on the button, an array of beams materializes armored individuals. Three were armored head to toe.
Three are in black armor, dials and LED light blinking on the LCD control. On the shoulder patch that reads TAV NATHAN JAMES and a A symbol and a decal that reads TAU'RI FEDERATION in small letters under the ship's name. Their individual names are Sheppard, Green and Chen and they are unconscious.
The other individual is wearing tan spacesuits with a blue stripe covering the shoulder. The helmet is not tinted, Bashir can easily identify and have the same symbol on the shoulder patch that reads TAU'RI FEDERATION COMMAND in bold capital letters and a small font RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT under it.
The green lights on the LCD controls turn red, alerting Bashir, O'Brien and Dax that three Tau'ri soldiers and a scientist are unconscious and in need of medical attention. Dax rushes to check their vitals while O'Brien and Bashir work on waking them up.
"Miles, Dax." Bashir said as he took the helmet off Sheppard. "Help me take the helmet off the other two."
As soon as Bashir took the helmet off of Sheppard, Bashir didn't need a medical tricorder to get a condition on the person he was helping. There's some sort of burn on the right temple and bleeding from the ear and nostril. "Bashir to Ops."
"Go ahead Doctor."
"I need an emergency site to site transport to sick bay."
"Is everything alright Doctor? Is Chief O'Brien and Dax okay?" It was the voice of Captain Sisko.
"Yes sir, I can't explain it sir." Bashir said as he tried to put his head around it.
"There are four more new life signs in the shuttle bay."
Sif see's what is happening and immediately beam Sheppard, Mckay Frank and Chen and Doctor Bashir to sickbay instead of waiting for Bashir to explain to his superiors.
"What just happened?" O'Brien asked the hologram.
"They were beam to sickbay." Sif answers.
Minutes before Nathan James exits hyperspace and into the fury of battle against the Dominion, Admiral Micheal Slattery and Fleet Admiral Tom Chandler walk out of the transporter chamber and into a busy Combat Information Center that's not far from the bridge of the Nathan James. Data telemetry shows the whereabouts of the Tauri Federation Navy and military in the galaxy and ongoing battles with the Dominion. Chandler is handed a report from Captain Kara Green, the current Captain of the Nathan James; that all Dominion in the sector in question is clear of Dominion activity. Three months of planning to get his puddle jumper tactical shuttle 12 and three of his best men and a scientist to get to the other side of the universe to change the outcome of a war that he intends to win with or without this Federation in the other reality.
As they approach the holographic plotter, there is a grimace on Slattery's face as he pulls out a brown cylindrical object from his left breast pocket and puts it in his mouth and lit it at the tail end. "Time for a celebration."
"How can you stand those synthetic cigars?" Fleet Admiral Chandler asks, not knowing that Slattery gets his cigars from Cuba and not synthesized from the synthesizer.
"Because it's not." Slattery held the cigars between his teeth as he said and took another cigar out and gave it to his friend and boss. "I don't like the taste of synthetic cigars, they have this aftertaste unlike the authentic ones." As he lit up the cigar for Chandler and inhale it, seconds later the exhale the smoke
It is the moment of clarity; his mind is clear from all the troubles that ails him. The moment of relaxation is over when opens his eyes. He thought he spent an eternity in euphoric bliss, but it was only a couple seconds.
"For a moment there I thought I lost you." Slattery said as he slightly punches the Fleet Admiral on the bicep.
"Oh man, I got to get more of this stuff." Chandler took the cigar out of his mouth and examine it. "After the war of course."
Micheal Slattery, a former Chicago police detective, wanted something new in his life, not the mundane 9 to 5 job or promotion in the police department. He wants adventure, excitement and travel to other worlds but not in a combat role; he had enough combating crime in Chicago. Most of his detective work is solving murders, gang violence, Tau'ri Federation credit laundering. Criminals just find ways to cheat the system even though people can synthesize what they want for Federation credits, but Chicago is still the same as always. He went to several recruiting centers in Chicago, wanting a career adventure and excitement. He got his chance by enlisting in the Tau'ri Alliance Navy, at the age 30, the recruiter saw he have potential, a Chicago Police detective captain who wanted a career change. He became the oldest recruit in Tau'ri Federation Navy.
Now at the ripe old age of 42; he has been in space battles, ferrying marines to the front lines and rescue SG teams stuck behind enemy lines. During the battle of the void between galaxies against the Wraith Resurgence of 2371, his ship was the last ship to survive a surprise attack. With its hyperdrive engines Irreparable destroyed and subspace communications system damaged, it took years to fly back to Tauri Alliance space, making first contacts with other races and hiding from the Wraith in the Pegasus galaxy along the way with only sublight engines.
"Got a pallet full in the cargo bay stash somewhere nobody knows about."
Chandler grins and takes another drag of his cigar. "I have to ask where you procure them."
"Admiral, we have the precise location from the puddle jumper." Commander Ganderson, a black female executive officer who was in line to be Captain and command her own ship, but she is happy where she is.
During the battle of the void between galaxies with the Wraith Resurgence of 2371; The Tauri Alliance Naval Command detected an unusual beacon that emanated from a planetary system that's on the edge of the spiral in the Pegasus Galaxy. The fleet is dispatched to investigate the beacon, there is nothing there but an asteroid field. What's lying in wait is something that they will never prepare for.
Kara Green onboard the Nathan James as a CIC officer detected a couple hundred small energy signatures coming from the Asteroid belt, although they were faint, She persists that something is not right, she continues to scan and monitor any energy fluctuations. Her commander trusted her instinct when others didn't. She matches the energy signature of Wraith Darts and Wraith Cruisers hiding in the asteroid fields, masking themselves until they are ready to attack. She immediately reported to Commander Slattery, bypassing Ganderson altogether which put a mark on her record.
Commander Slattery trusted her gut instinct, he knew something was up. The Fleet is aimlessly wandering around the asteroid belt like a lost sheep. Subspace communications and hyperspace engines are downside to the radiation emitting from the belt and he is unable to reach the other ships and the only communication is through radio, which is a hassle itself as it slowly reaches the other ships until it's too late. He ordered Nathan James and the others to egress the asteroid belt.
Federation Naval Command saw the exemplary work of the crew of the Nathan James that managed to limp back home. The Admiralty board and President Amanda Clark promoted Captain Thomas William 'Tom' Chandler to the rank of Admiral, Commander Slattery to Rear Admiral and gave command to a 300-year-old Rapid Reactionary Taskforce. The motto of the fleet is the same motto from Nathan James "TIP OF THE SPEAR". They go where they are needed most. With that, the command crew are ordered to Ganymede. the Tauri Federation main shipyard called Valhalla.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the universe, Sisko slowly strolls in the promenade hallway, heading his way towards sickbay when Odo caught up to him along with his Bajoran deputies.
"Odo, my security team has it handled."
"Captain, if they are a threat to this station, it's my job assess the threat they might pose." Odo says
As they enter sickbay, Sisko and Odo are greeted by Dr. Bashir. "Captain, Odo."
The doctor nods to them as he finishes examining a patient with his new medical tricorder when Sisko stood by the one of them.
"What is that thing doctor?" Sisko ask Bashir what he is holding.
"It's a... medical scanner." The doctor paused, frowning slightly. "Or at least, that's what Sif called it when she gave it to me. It's designed to scan a person's vitals and detect any abnormalities. It's quite advanced, actually." Bashir smiled, showing off the scanner. "I'
"Can you wake them up?" Sisko ask as he read the name of one of the people and the rank. "Wake this Commander David Sheppard up."
Dr. Bashir nodded, "Yes sir." He attached the medical scanner to the human's temple and adjusted a few settings. After a few moments, the man's eyelids fluttered open. "Commander Sheppard, you're awake. How do you feel?"
The man looked around, confused at first. "Where... am I?" He saw Sisko and Odo standing nearby.
"You're aboard Deep Space Nine," Sisko replied.
"DS9?" Commander Sheppard repeated, sitting up. He looked around, "From the show?" He looks at Benjamin Sisko and he looks the same as in the show that he watched with his father.
"Yes, that's right." Sisko smiled. "How did you and your crew end up here?"
"We were battling the Dominion on our side of the universe, Captain Sisko," Commander Sheppard began, still somewhat groggy from the meds. "Me and my team stored ourselves in the buffer from dangerous level of radiation that the pulsar is emitting while our artificial intelligence pilot the jumper through the rift while the fleet closed the rift preventing the dominion going through."
"What is your mission here?" Sisko asked, genuinely curious.
"Captain," Commander Sheppard replied, "Our orders is to establish a base of operation on this side of the universe using our Alternate Dimension Drive and construct a stargate for the rest of the fleet to fight the Dominion here and apprehend this criminal Ba'al."
Sisko nodded, "Well, we can certainly help you with that, but we're going to need to know more about your fleet and their capabilities. I'd like to invite you and your officers to join me in my office for a meeting."
