Chapter 9
Tony pulled her hood up over her head more as the rain poured around them as they rode their ponies through the forest through the mud. She wouldn't admit out loud that she was miserable and cold. She knew that they were probably miserable and cold as well. She just hoped at some point that the rain would let up at some point. But she knew that it would be a pipe dream for them to get out of the rain and somewhere nice and warm.
She knew that someone was bound to speak up about this wet weather. She just wasn't sure who was going to speak up about being cold and wet. After all, they have traveled through different weathers to get to this point. Sunny to rainy weather and it wasn't about to change at any time. She knew that and she was pretty sure that they would know that things weren't going to change for them anytime soon. Perhaps soon they would have a nice warm bed to sleep in.
"Here, Mr. Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?" Dori questioned complaining about the weather. He was hoping that Gandalf would be able to do something about the weather.
"It is raining, Master Dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done. If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard." Gandalf said exasperated with the fact that someone would think that he would have something to do with the weather when there was nothing that he would be able to control.
"Are there any?" Bilbo asked curiously looking over at Gandalf with a curious gaze. He wondered about the other wizards out there if there were any more.
"What?"
"Other wizards?"
"There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman, the White. Then there are the two Blue Wizards; you know, I've quite forgotten their names." Gandalf said in thought as they rode on.
Tony looked over with a curious gaze. She was rather excited to learn about the wizards that he knew. But the one that sent a shiver down her spine was hearing Saruman the White. She knew the story about him and how he would become corrupted but she couldn't tell Gandalf that. It wasn't her place to reveal anything to them.
"And who is the fifth?" Bilbo asked tilting his head to the side.
"Well, that would be Radagast, the Brown."
"Is he a great Wizard or is he...more like you?"
Gandalf looked at Bilbo rather offended with the question that Bilbo had posed to him. "I think he's a very great wizard, in his way. He's a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals to others. He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands to the East, and a good thing too, for always Evil will look to find a foothold in this world."
"He alerts the others if a foothold is given?" Tony questioned softly looking over.
Gandalf pursed his lips in thought. "A long time ago when Evil got its foot hold in… he did. I am sure that he'll do the same this time around."
Tony smiled a small smile feeling a bit more at ease knowing that it would be helpful if Radagast would alert when darkness and evil got their foothold in on the world. She just hoped that it wouldn't be anytime soon with her here. She supposed that her being here would change things at least that was what she hoped.
She took a breath thinking of what would be to come on their journey to the Lonely Mountain. Her heart ached at the thought of losing the people of the company when the quest would end. But she hoped that perhaps her being here would change things. Perhaps she would be able to protect those who would die? She didn't know how she would be able to do it but she certainly was going to try her best to save the line of Durin.
She just hoped that Thorin wouldn't leave her behind anywhere. So far he had accepted her in the company and accepted her as not being a burden or distraction even though Fili felt that way. It made her heart hurt that Fili didn't trust her just yet. But she supposed that he would see her only as a distraction and nothing more. She was going to prove herself to him that she wasn't going to be a distraction to anyone in the company. She just didn't know how she would prove herself.
She looked up at the sky and noticed that the rain was slowing down. It meant that they would be able to dry off soon and hopefully would be able to warm by a fire soon to get warmth and not be as miserable.
