Saiyan Anti-Hero
~Mount Justice August 8th~
The sun was shining and the sand on the beach was hot, as the hidden doors to Mount Justice opened up, allowing for all the Young Sidekicks, to run out and get ready for a day of sun, surf, and sand.
"Please remind me why I am here, and not training for the Cell Games?" Kali asked, wearing a bikini, with a transparent leaf skirt, revealing the Goddess markings went along her back splintering off at the neck, rather then just down her arms.
"Batman and Black Canary's orders. Your arm might have been regenerated thanks to the Senzu Bean, but it had still been torn off by Ivo's android during your battle." Superboy said. "So, while we're not on missions, for a couple more days, you'll be relaxing with us."
"Fine."
"What's with you Kali? You've been kinda moody the last few days." Robin said.
"It's, nothing." Kali grumped. "I'm just wanting to get as strong as I can for the Cell Games. Each hour I'm not training, is another level of strength that could have been used to defeat Cell."
"Let's get your mind off what's troubling you, and hit the beach." Megan smiled, turning them to the waterfront.
"First, a moment of silence, for our absent comrade." Robin said.
"Poor Wally."
"He ain't getting any sympathy from me." Kali said, taking the beach ball from Superboy and running to the waterfront.
"Hey, get back here with that." Superboy laughed, chasing after her. "You sure got over your funk, real quick."
~Central City High~
"Welcome class, to the first day, of sophomore year." Wally's teacher said.
Wally groaned as he slumped in his seat, still feeling a bit of sting from the gorilla attack he suffered from, by Dr. Briefs.
'Oh, why do I gotta be here, when I could be out, enjoying the beach with the two hot babes on the team.' Wally questioned.
~Mount Justice Beach~
"Cannon Ball." Kali shouted, as she slammed into the water.
"Oh that was a good one. But watch this." Superboy smiled, jumping high into the air, before he came rushing down, and created a bigger splash then Kali.
"Easy there Sups. We don't want you using your powers in public." Robin said.
"Sorry boy wonder. Couldn't help it." Superboy said, his head breaching the water before Kali shoved it back under.
~Central City High~
Wally leaned down towards the water fountain to get a drink, but he ended up getting sprayed in the face by the fountain instead. Looking down at himself, he groaned in annoyance as he saw the fountain made it look like he'd wet himself.
~Mount Justice Beach~
The sweet smell of juicy hot dogs, cooking on the grill, wafted through the air as the team were all enjoying the food Kali was cooking up.
"Alright, who's up for more?" Kali questioned.
"I am." Robin smiled.
"I could definitely got for more of your cooking Kali." Superboy said.
"I would like another." Aqualad said.
"Oh, me too, I want another hot dog." Megan smiled.
~Central City High~
Wally just looked at his tray as the school slop was dumped on it. No plate or anything, just the slop the school called, chillie.
~Mount Justice Beach~
Aqualad threw a volley ball into the air, serving it as he had Robin on his team, while Superboy and Megan formed their own team, and Kali sat bored on the sidelines as referee. Megan hit the ball back to Aqualad's side, and Robin hit it, spiking the ball to the ground.
"Point to Megan and Superboy." She said.
"What? Oh come on, I totally had that in." Robin said.
"Nope sorry. It was out of bounds." Kali said.
~Central City High~
Wally groaned after he got hit in the face with a dodge ball and was sent to the ground, as his face was throbbing where he'd been hit. He got up and glared back at the other team, before he brought his arms and right leg up, to shield himself as he was hit with a barrage of dodge balls. When he turned back after he was sure the barrage had ended, his face went white as one more ball came flying straight at him, and hit Wally, in the family jewels.
~Mount Justice Beach~
"Oh ha-ha, very funny Kali." Superboy said.
Superboy laid in the sand, covered by it as Kali made a sculpture, and wolf whistled as she gave Superboy a mermaids body with starfish covering the chest.
"I think it suits you." Kali laughed.
~Central City High~
The final bell rang for the day, and the doors burst open with Wally running out, before he cheered to high heaven, as if he'd just gotten released from jail.
~Mount Justice: Sunset~
"Recognized, Kid Flash, B03." The synthetic voice to the Zeta Tube A.I said, as Wally came to Mount Justice with a whole bunch of swimming and beach supplies.
"The Wall-man is here." He said confidently as he began running in. "Now let's get this party star…"
Wally was unable to finish his statement as he tripped over his beach umbrella and painfully skid along the ground. When he looked up, he saw everyone was in their hero costumes, along with a newcomer standing in front of Green Arrow.
"Wall-man huh?" Artemis questioned. "I love the uniform. What exactly are your powers?"
"Being annoying and perverted as hell." Kali smiled.
"Uh, who's this?" Wally questioned.
"Artemis, your new teammate." The archer said.
"Kid Flash, never heard of you." Wally said.
"She's my new protege." Green Arrow said.
"What happened to your old one?" Kid Flash questioned.
"Recognized, Speedy B06." The Zeta Tube A.I said, as Green Arrow's former protege came in.
"Well for starters, he doesn't go by Speedy anymore." Roy said. "Call me Red Arrow."
"Wow, so original. How long did it take you to come up with that one?" Kali questioned with a sarcastic tone in her voice.
"Roy, you look…"
"Replaceable." Red Arrow said, interrupting what Green Arrow was saying.
"It's not like that, you told me you were going solo." Green Arrow said.
"So why waste time finding a sub? Can she even use that bow?"
"She saved my life with it almost a week ago Red. So she has my respect." Kali stated getting on the defensive. "You want to ask my team to help you, then you best act like you deserve it."
"Who is this?"
"Remember the guy in the orange and blue Gi you met before storming out of the Hall of Justice?" Green Arrow asked. "Well, this is his daughter. An' she's the leader of the team you're requesting help you on this job."
"Thankfully, we're getting paid extra for hazard pay on this job." Kali smiled.
"Wait, you get paid to be part of the team?" Wally asked.
"We all do genius." Robin said.
"Kali I can stand up for myself, as appreciated it is the captain is sticking up for her troops." Artemis said.
"Who are you?" Wally questioned.
"She's my niece/I'm his niece." Green Arrow and Artemis said in unison.
"Another niece?" Robin chuckled.
"But not your replacement." Aqualad said. "We've always wanted you on the team, and we have no quota on archers."
"An' if we did…"
"Which we don't." Kali said interrupting Wally.
"But if we did, you know who we'd pick." Wally finished. "Team Captain's words be damned."
"Whatever Baywatch, I'm here to stay." Artemis said, with attitude.
"She's here to stay." Kali smiled. "You came to us for a reason. Tell us why we should help."
"I came to you, for a reason called Dr. Serling Roquette." Red stated.
"Nanorobotics genius and claytronics expert at Royal University in Star City." Robin said, bringing up all relevant information he had on her. "Vanished two weeks ago."
"Abducted two weeks ago." Red stated. "By the League of Shadows."
"I've heard of them. Weren't they who taught Batman how to fight like a ninja?" Kali asked.
"Hold up, you want us to rescue her from the League of Shadows?" Robin questioned.
"Hardcore." Wally said, fist bumping with Robin.
"I already rescued her."
"Then what do you want from us, if not a rescue mission?"
"The Shadows had already coerced her into creating a weapon." Red explained, bringing up the weapon's designs. "Doc calls it, the Fog. Comprised of billions of microscopic nanites. Nanotech infiltrators, capable of disintegrating anything in their path. Concrete, steel, flesh, bone. But its true purpose isn't mere destruction, it's theft. The infiltrators eat and store raw data from any computer system, and deliver the stolen intel to the Shadows."
"Providing them access to weapons, strategic defense, cutting edge science and tech." Kali said, seeing what Red Arrow was getting at.
"Perfect for extortion, manipulation, Power Broking. Yeah, sounds like the Shadows." Artemis said.
"Like you know anything, about the Shadows." Wally said.
"She knows more about them then you pea-brain." Kali said, smacking Wally upside the head.
"The hell was that for?" Wally questioned.
"I'm only gonna say this once so listen up. Either you get onboard with Artemis joining the team, or you pack up your things, and leave." Kali stated.
"That's not your call to make." Wally said.
"Actually, as team captain, it is her call to make." Batman stated.
"Again, you side with her, again? I thought you'd be smarter then that Batman. Fine, you know what. I give up. I'll play nice until it's proven, you're nothing but an incompetent leader." Wally stated.
"Roquette's working on a Virus that'll render the Fog, Inert." Red stated, getting them back on track.
"But if the Shadows know she can do that…"
"They'll target her. Right now she's off the grid. I stashed her at the local high school's computer lab."
"You left her alone?" Green Arrow questioned.
"She's safe enough for now."
"Then let's you and I keep her that way."
"You and I? Don't you wanna take your new protégé?" Red Arrow questioned.
"Hey, you brought this to the team slick." Kali said, getting in Red's face. "It's our mission, which means it's hers now too."
"Then my job's done." Red stated heading for the Zeta Tube.
"Recognized, Speedy…"
"That's Red Arrow, B-6, update." Red stated before he was Zeta'd away.
"He's gonna be a real joy to work with in the future." Kali sighed.
~Later: Happy Harbor High~
"Miss Martian, link us up." Kali telepathically called to Megan. "We don't want the shadows intercepting our coms."
The Martian girl was on the roof of the school, keeping watch over the school grounds as Kali was with Dr. Roquette, and all other members of the team were patrolling different sectors of the school grounds.
"Everyone online?" Megan questioned, as she linked all their minds together.
"Oh, this is weird." Artemis said.
"As well as distracting." Roquette added. "Codding a distributive algorithm virus on a kiddie computer with less ram then a wristwatch, is hard enough to do without the distracting voices of hormonal teens echoing in my head."
"Lady, do you always complain when someone tries to help you?" Kid questioned.
"Pot, Kettle. Have you met?" Artemis asked.
"Hey, hey. I do not need attitude, from the newbie who drove Red Arrow off the team." Kid Flash said.
"That is so not on me." Artemis stated firmly.
"Kid, shut your mouth. Miss Martian, take Dr. Roquette off the link she needs to concentrate." Kali said. "Disconnect me too. I need to concentrate as well. Contact me if you find anything that might be trouble. An' everyone be sure to check in every five minutes." She sighed, before the link was disconnected.
"Ugh, finally I got that annoying teen talk out of my head." Roquette said. "I get why I had to be disconnected from the link, but why you?"
"I can't concentrate on the Ki around the premises if I have to listen to their arguing." Kali sighed, leaning against the computer desk.
"So, another question. Why are you the only one who's actually guarding me, while the others are out patrolling the building?" Roquette questioned.
"Because I'm the only one who can actually sense Ki, and to my knowledge, the League of Shadows don't know how to control their Ki, which means they don't know how to hide it." Kali stated.
"So that means, you'll be able to stop an attack, before it can happen." Roquette said.
"Pretty much, yeah." Kali said.
"So what made you want to be a superhero in the first place?" Roquette questioned.
"It's… more of a family business then anything." Kali sighed. "But to be honest, I feel like it's the right thing to do, and it's the calling I was meant to follow."
"You don't strike me as the type of girl who likes fighting."
"Trust me, there's more to me then meets the eye. But right now, I'm nervous."
"If you're nervous about this job, then we're in trouble."
"No, this job is a piece of cake. But what I'm nervous about, is what's to come when New Years hits." Kali stated.
"The Cell Games?"
"Yep. I'm the Saiyan, Cell said was mandatory to come and fight him at, during the Cell Games." Kali sighed. "Problem is, I'm not even sure my dad is strong enough to beat him, and he's beaten Superman in a one on one battle several times. The Big Blue has only beaten my dad, like once or twice."
"That does sound troubling. But it's not like you have any control over it. Life's just a big bowl of mysteries we don't have any control over. There's no divine scheme, or grand design to follow. If the world is fated to return to nothing, then that's what will happen." Roquette said.
"Oh great, another atheist. As if Kid Flash wasn't bad enough." Kali groaned. "You know you're literally talking to someone, who's fought a deity, right? I can attest to them existing."
"It was just an opponent claiming to be a God, with highly advanced weaponry."
"Kami give me the strength to endure this." Kali groaned. "The Virus won't be of much use without the weapon, can you track it?"
"My utility Fog is not a weapon, it's science. Brilliant science."
"Egocentric much?" Kali questioned. "If it's being used to steal military secrets, and destroy government facilities, it's a weapon. Just answer the damned questioned."
"Of course I can track it. But I'd have to go online." Roquette said. "Might as well rent a billboard with this address and 'assassinate me' on it, written in neon."
"That's not gonna happen." Kali stated firmly.
Looking to Kali, and seeing the firm look in her eyes, Roquette accessed the internet.
"Tracking the Fog now."
Once located, Kali reached out to her team.
"Miss Martian. Dr. Roquette has located the Weapon. Reconfigure the Bioship so Superboy and Robin can pursue." Kali instructed as Miss Martian reinstated the mental link with her.
"Kali, are you sure you want me to go? What if…"
"I'll be fine bro. My arm isn't gonna get ripped off again." Kali said. "An' Artemis, stop thinking lewd thoughts about Superboy. You are not allowed to do that on missions."
"Right, sorry boss." Artemis replied.
"Ready." Megan said.
"Alright you two, go and be careful. We don't know the full extent to what the Fog, or the Shadows can do." Kali said, before she spotted the Bioship from the window, and if took off. "Megan, Artemis. Make our visitor think she's being superior to us, and let her in. I can handle her."
"The Assassin is here? Why not just tell us where they are and we'll kick their ass." Kid Flash questioned.
"Kid, there is a plan in motion here, that you'd know if you hadn't spent the whole trip here in the Bioship complaining about Artemis joining the team instead of Red Arrow." Kali said. "Aqualad, bring him up to speed on the plan."
As the night continued, Kali focused on sensing the Ki of anyone approaching the perimeter with the team checking in every few minutes, while Roquette was busy working on the Virus, and worrying over whether or not the kids assigned to protecting her, were cut out for the job of keeping her assassin away. Sensing the assassin's Ki was close, Kali put the rest of the plan into action.
"I'll be a minute." Kali said, getting up and walking to the door.
"Where are you going?" Roquette questioned.
"Nature's calling. Don't worry, Miss Martian and Artemis will guard you while I'm out." Kali explained, exiting the computer lab.
Heading down the hall, where she sensed the assassins Ki, Kali followed it. When heading down one hall, she'd turn around when the assassin turned around, when heading into a room, she'd turn around and leave the room with the assassin. It was obvious at that point, that she was using the ventilation systems to hide from her.
"You can come out now. I know you're in the vents." Kali stated.
There was a moment of silence, before the vent shaft above her opened, and Kali swung her arms up, using her Ki controlled blades to lock a pair of sai and push the assassin back and away from her.
"So there you are." Kali said, looking the assassin up and down.
Standing in front of her, was a young woman with a slender, but fit build with thick black hair through the mask she saw a pair of gray eyes, as well as olive-colored skin due to her.
Her outfit consists of a dark green colored kimono, and appears as though it has shreds and rips along it. Whether these rips are an intentional design or just wear and tear from her time as an assassin, seemed unknown to Kali. The kimono is tied around her waist, where its length reaches just above her knees. She also wore a pair of black knee-high boots. The aforementioned mask is a white mask, resembling a cat's head with red stripes and a wide grin.
"Hmm… Smiling cat mask, with a stripe design. Your name must be Cheshire, just like the cat from Alice in Wonderland." Kali smiled.
"You're pretty clever. How'd you know to follow me?" Cheshire questioned.
"Wasn't all that hard. You've got zero control over your Ki, and I was able to track it." Kali said, three of her blades spinning over her hand like a large shurikan. "You won't find Dr. Roquette here. The moment I sensed your Ki, you fell right into my trap."
"Is that so? Oh how I'd love to hear that." Cheshire laughed.
"Quite simple actually, I knew that having Roquette would lure an assassin from the Shadows here, and once she had the coordinates, Robin and Superboy left, with an EMP device in tow that could destroy the cores of all the nanites in the Fog. An' once you thought our heaviest hitter was gone, you'd make your move. Once you were close enough to the room, I initiated the next phase of the plan by leaving, with two of my teammates, take Dr. Roquette out the window, and to a safe place where she could finish the Virus without any worry of being found by the Shadows again."
"Pretty clever. But you were wrong about one thing. Your heaviest hitter, the Kryptonian boy is gone, so that bluff won't work." Cheshire said.
"Oh, now that's where you're wrong Cheshire." Kali smiled, putting her blades back on her hips. "The team doesn't just have a Kryptonian on board. It also has a Saiyan. Me!"
Cheshire's eyes widened, when Kali disappeared and was instantly in front of her again. Moving as fast as she could, Cheshire maneuvered to the side, barely evading a swing from Kali's fist. Bringing up her leg to kick the Saiyan girl, Cheshire's strike was stopped when Kali grabbed her leg, and kneed the Shadow in the lower back.
"Robin to Kali." Robin said, as Cheshire fell to the ground. "We're over Philadelphia, and we've located the Shadow's next target. Star Labs. But we're too late."
"Not to worry, you'll get them next time. I've got the assassin pinned, and Roquette is safe." Kali said.
"How'd the Assassin get in?" Kid Flash questioned. "Artemis this is…"
"Kid. One more word, and you can say goodbye to your position on the team. I get you're angry Red didn't want to join, and you want someone to blame, but that doesn't mean you get to blame the newbie." Kali stated firmly as she tied up Cheshire. "I've got the Assassin secured. It's time for some interrogations. Robin, Superboy, stay on standby for coordinates."
~Later~
"Okay, let's see… we can't take the mask off, you've booby-trapped it so we couldn't. But that doesn't mean we can't do things the hard way." Kali said.
"Go ahead, torture me all you want. I ain't gonna spill any of the Shadows secrets." Cheshire growled, glaring at Kali.
"Oh I know. Which is why I'm just gonna take them." Kali stated, putting her hand on Cheshire's head. "Try not to squirm too much. I'm still new to this technique."
Coursing her Ki through Cheshire's mind, Kali closed her eyes, and looked through the Assassins memories, before she opened them again, what she found being a bit shocking to her.
"Miss Martian, Artemis, Kid, Cheshire isn't working alone. She has two accomplices searching for Roquette." Kali contacted Megan telepathically.
"Do you know if they have a beat on her?" Kid questioned.
"They don't. But one of them, is Spider. An' from his file, he's not someone you wanna mess with." Kali said. "Aqualad, how's Roquette coming with the Virus?"
"It's done. Uploading now." Aqualad said.
"Robin, Superboy. The Shadow's next target is the Wayne Tech Enterprise Branch in Philadelphia. Get there, and use the EMP before uploading the Virus when it's completed." Kali ordered.
Turning off her com, and cutting the mental link, Kali turned back to Cheshire before she removed the mask, revealing Cheshire's real face.
"Had me going there with that bluff of yours, Jade." Kali said. "Let's talk."
"So, that little mind reading trick of yours actually works huh? Guess I shouldn't be surprised. You are one of the weapons Cadmus created for the Light." Jade said.
"I am no one's weapon." Kali stated. "The only reason I'm not torturing you right now, is because of one simple fact. You're Artemis's sister. I was already aware of who her parents were, but to find out that she has an older sister, well I'm a bit surprised. But from your memories, I could see how and why you left. I mean, Sports Master being your dad, and Huntress being your mom. That's gotta be a bad family dynamic. But I can see how Artemis became so skill full with a bow."
"So you already know about her past."
"That's right, which means you won't be able to blackmail her with that." Kali stated, using one of Jade's sai to cut the ropes binding her.
"You're letting me go?" Jade questioned.
"Can't exactly have you running around, killing all your fellow convicts in jail. Plus, I know for a fact, the Head of the Shadows, doesn't take too kindly to one of his best, failing him." Kali smirked. "I'll be keeping your mask and sai, the rest you can take back."
"I'm still hunting Roquette down you know."
"Oh I know, but you don't have a reason to anymore." Kali smiled. "I got confirmation from Aqualad that the Virus has been completed, and uploaded."
"I do not like being played." Jade stated.
"Too bad, you got played twice tonight. But a word of advice." Kali said. "There's a good chance the world will end on New Years in four months. So spend what little time you can with your family, and make the time count, even if you have to mend broken fences."
Jade could tell from the tone in Kali's voice, that she wasn't joking, or playing a trick, she was being genuinely honest with the Assassin. Jumping away from her captured seat, Jade left the school and vanished into the shadows.
"Robin to Kali. Robin to Kali. Mission accomplished. EMP was discharged, and Virus uploaded to the Fog's core." Robin said, as Kali turned her coms back on.
"Great Robin. But Cheshire got away. Had a hidden blade in her sleeve I was unable to find." Kali said, before turning off her coms again. "This is gonna hurt." She sighed, before punching herself hard in the face.
~Mount Justice~
"Ow-ow-ow." Kali hissed as Superboy put ice on her bruised and swollen cheek.
"Oh quit your whining and suck it up, you're a Saiyan aren't ya? Have some pride for crying out loud." Superboy questioned.
"No fare, using my own race's pride against me." Kali said, her words kinda slurred from her swollen cheek, while she sat on the couch in their living space.
"It still boggles me how Cheshire was able to get the upper hand on you." Aqualad said.
"It was when I was using my dad's mind reading technique. I was too focused on using it to realize what she was doing until it was too late." Kali stated.
"Saiyans can read minds too?" Megan questioned, bringing Kali a can of soda.
"Sort of. It's more of a Ki controlling technique so advanced, I've barely gotten the basics of it down, and I've been practicing it since I first went to Capsule Corp back in July." Kali explained.
"See, she is an incompetent leader." Kid Flash said. "I told you, but did you listen? No."
"No she's not Kid. What happened to her, happens to the best of us." Artemis stated.
"I don't wanna hear another word from you, little miss archer." Kid Flash stated. "You don't even deserve to be on this team. Red Arrow does."
"Kid that's enough." Superboy stated.
"No, I've had it, and I think it's time, we had a change of leadership around here. All in favor of making me the new Team Leader, raise your hand." Kid Flash declared, raising his right hand.
There was a moment of silence, before Kid realized, no one else was gonna raise their hands.
"You can't be serious." Kid stated.
"Kid, she made a mistake. We all make those." Robin said.
"She's unfit and unqualified to be our team leader. She's nothing but a genetically grown weapon, developed by Cadmus."
"KID."
Kid Flash winced at hearing that angered voice and turned to see a very not so happy Flash, marching up to him. Behind him were Goku, Batman, Red Tornado, Black Canary, and Green Arrow, all of them looking just as unhappy with Kid Flash.
"You seriously think that's what makes her unfit to be your leader?" Flash questioned.
"I know it does." Kid stated.
"If that's how you feel, then how's this?" Kali questioned, getting to her feet, holding the ice pack. "Until further notice, you're suspended from the team."
"You can't do that to me." Wally stated.
"She can, and she has." Flash stated.
"Kid, I think it's time you met someone, you really don't wanna make angry. Even I'm scared of her when she gets angry." Goku said.
"Hang on Dad… don't you think taking him to see her, is a bit much?" Kali questioned.
"Kid has this coming." Flash said, putting an inhibitor collar around Wally's neck. "So you don't run from your punishment."
"Wait, what about…"
Before Kid Flash could finish his question, Goku grabbed his shoulder, and they disappeared with Instant Transmission.
"I'll be sure to let his parents know where he is, and why he's there." Flash said.
"Who was Goku talking about?" Artemis questioned.
"My mom." Kali gulped.
~Earth Omega~
"You little brat. You get back here this instant and face judgement for what you've done." Chichi shouted, running after Kid Flash.
"How the hell is she keeping up with me?" He questioned.
Goku just stood there, snickering at the scene with Goten by his side, looking at the inhibitor collar his dad had removed from the boy clad in red and yellow.
"Dad, what does this do?" Goten questioned.
"It turns a meta humans powers off." Goku stated. "I figured I should at least give Kid a fighting chance against your mother. She's been wanting to teach Kid Flash a lesson for a while now. An' after what he said about your sister, I doubt I'm gonna be able to bring him back to his Earth in one piece."
"What exactly did he say about Kali?" Goten questioned.
Goku crouched down and whispered into Goten's ear what Kid had said about Kali, and when he was done, the youngest son of Goku turned into a Super Saiyan and flew straight at Kid.
"I'm gonna make you eat those words." Goten shouted, chasing Kid Flash, side by side with Chichi.
"This should be fun to watch." Goku laughed, grabbing some popcorn and sitting in the air, his legs crisscrossed as he watched the scene unfold.
"I'M SORRY." Kid cried out comically.
~A/N~
I hope you guys enjoyed this. An' I wanna give a big shout out to Kiran Punnoose, for suggesting the idea about Chichi and Wally.
You can find his idea in the reviews of Chapter11.
Let's just hope Wally doesn't meet Gohan, Videl, Bulma, Piccolo, Trunks, or Vegeta next.
Or worse, Ox King.
