Chapter 1

It was a dark and cold night, the rain was falling hard from the sky, a young girl of fourteen was watching as the raindrops fell with some force on one of the windows of the train she had taken, her gaze was lost in the darkness that could be seen behind the window, she had her elbow resting on the edge of the window and her fist holding her cheek.

Her hair was light blonde and long to her waist, her eyes were brown, and she was wearing black trousers and a black shirt that showed a bit of cleavage.

Meanwhile, inside the train, some people slept in their seats, others read magazines or listened to music on their players, and from time to time a stewardess would walk around with a trolley of food and drinks.

Ding, dong, ding. *Attention, all Mahora-bound passengers, the train will be arriving at its destination in a few hours.

"I wonder..." the young girl thought without taking her eyes off the window, closed her eyes and sighed, then took a letter from one of her pockets and stared at it. "I won't stay long..."

The next day, the sun broke through the morning sky in a school city where the streets were wet and waterlogged from the previous night's rain.

Ding, dong, ding. *Attention passengers, we have arrived at Mahora, thank you for travelling with us," came the announcement over the loudspeaker.

Hearing the announcement, the people on the train began to leave through the doors.

"It's here," the young girl said, getting up from her seat, walking to one of the doors of the train and out into the station, taking a piece of paper from her trouser pocket with a small map drawn on it.

"Now I have to find this person, if I remember correctly, he was in this school..." the young woman thought as she left the station and walked into the city.

/Grace of Destiny/

"Negi!" shouted a young woman. "If that pervert takes my underwear again, I'll ban him from here and he'll have to find an inn!" the young girl shouted, putting her underwear in one of the drawers of a table with an angry expression on her face.

"Huh?!" shouted a ten-year-old boy known as Negi. "Kamo-kun! Don't do that again!" he demanded, looking at a stoat sitting on a small table in the middle of the room.

"I'm sorry Aniki, it won't happen again," Kamo apologised.

"That's what you said the other time," the young woman remembered, looking at Kamo out of the corner of her eye.

"Asuna, Negi, breakfast is ready," said another young girl coming out of the small kitchen of the dormitory, carrying a tray with breakfast and putting it on the table.

"Thank you, Konoka." Asuna and Negi said at the same time, looked at the breakfast, sat down on the floor in front of the small table and started to eat.

"Did you manage to finish your homework yesterday, Asuna?" Negi asked, looking at her.

"Huh? Yes," Asuna replied.

"We have teacher Nitta's exam today, don't we?" Konoka asked looking at Asuna.

"Don't remind me Konoka..." Asuna sighed as she spread the jam on the toast, a shadow covering her eyes.

"According to the map, it's this way," muttered the young woman who had arrived in Mahora, as she walked down a dirt road with huge green bamboo canes sticking out of the wooden fence on either side. "This school city is huge," the young girl said to herself, shaking her head from side to side at the bamboo canes. As she looked ahead, she saw two people approaching, they were walking in the opposite direction to her, one had waist length green hair and what looked like two robot antennae coming out of her head, her eyes were the same colour as her hair, the other looked like a girl of about ten years old, her hair was very light blonde and knee length, her skin was pale and her eyes were sapphire blue, both were wearing uniforms from some school.

"They must be students," the young girl thought, and as she passed the blonde girl, their eyes met for a few seconds before they went their separate ways, a gentle breeze blowing through their hair at the same time.

/Grace of Destiny/

"This must be it," the young woman said, looking at the school now in front of her as she entered the building and walked up some stairs. "His office is on the first floor... This is it," the young girl thought as she looked at a sign that said 'Headmaster's Office' on the top of the door, the young girl knocked on the door with her fist and entered.

"Hello, can I help you with something?" an old man asked from his desk, he had a very long white beard just like his ears, and a small ponytail at the back of his head, he was staring at the young woman.

The girl also stared at him for a few seconds.

"Are you the headmaster?" the girl asked, looking at him.

"Yes." the older man nodded. "And you are? You're not from this school, are you?"

"No, I'm not, I was told to give you this letter," the young woman replied, taking the letter out of her pocket and walking over to the old man, holding it out to him.

"Huh?" the old man blinked and took the letter. "Let's see..." he mumbled as he opened the letter, then began to read it in silence, putting it down on the table after a few minutes and looking at the young woman.

"I think it would be nice if you read it too, ho, ho, ho," the old man smiled slightly, stroking his beard, the young woman looked at the old man curiously, took the letter and began to read it in silence.

'Dear friend Konoemon,

I hope you are well; I know this is very sudden, but could you let the girl you just received this letter from stay in Mahora and attend classes for a while? I know it must seem strange to you, but I know why I say it. The next time I see you, I'll treat you to anything you want, and we'll have a game of Go.

Your good friend, Tom.

PS: I know you'll read this letter if Konoemon lets you, so don't even think about refusing, do you understand, Leona? ; D '

"He deceived me..." the young woman whispered, a shadow covering her eyes as she clutched the letter in her hands. "So, it was important, I came all this way for it, I feel like an idiot, and he gives me this grin at the end of the letter."

"Well, your name is Leona, isn't it?" Konoemon asked looking at her. "My name is Konoemon, you see, Tom is a good friend of mine, I wouldn't mind letting you stay here, we have room."

"I appreciate that, but I won't stay just because he says so," Leona said looking at the letter.

"Ho, ho, ho, that was a quick answer, I won't force you, but it wouldn't be so bad if you stayed for a while," Konoemon commented, stroking his beard.

"Tch, what's he thinking, he should know by now..." Leona muttered, narrowing her eyes and looking elsewhere.

"I know Tom well and I don't think he brought you here for nothing," Konoemon smiled.

"That's okay." Leona sighed. "I'll stay for a while, but it won't take long."

"Well then, I'll get everything ready," Konoemon nodded, then there was a knock at the door and someone came in.

"Good morning, Headmaster," a man smiled and greeted him.

"Takamichi," Konoemon said as he looked at him. "Good to see you, this girl will be a student from today, her name is Leona, could you tell teacher Negi that he will receive her in his class today?"

"A new student?" Takamichi asked looking at Leona. "Sure, I'll go and inform him," he smiled slightly and then left the office.

"About the uniform and the books, don't worry, we'll give you the uniform today and the books tomorrow," Konoemon explained. "Do you have any questions?"

"Yes, I guess you have to pay for all this stuff, and why am I starting today?"

"Ah, don't worry, you don't have to pay for it, Tom will pay me back, ho, ho, ho," Konoemon smiled. "And you start today, because that's how you get to know the class."

"That's fine."

"I welcome you to Mahora."

"I guess it's okay to be here for a while... isn't it?" Leona thought.
