Chapter One: Wrong Turn
Giles had left.
Sunnydale had been exposed.
Outside of Sunnydale, there was a demon bar. A vampire had told a group of demons about what had happened in Sunnydale the night before. It had found a robot instead of The Slayer. A demon horde took off on their motorcycles and headed straight for Sunnydale.
The town was wide open. The town was vulnerable.
A few hours went by and it was nightfall. The Scooby gang gathered around Buffy Summers' grave at exactly midnight. They each had their own black candles and lit them accordingly. The gang formed a circle. Willow started the spell. She had the Urn of Osiris right in front of her. Willow spoke to Osiris.
"Osiris, here lies the warrior of the people. Let her cross over." Willow demanded.
The spell started and ripped open Willow's arms. Xander was in shock and went to help her, but Tara stopped him. They had to keep the circle intact. Anya heard the sound of motorcycles.
The horde had arrived in Sunnydale.
The demons started to terrorize the citizens of Sunnydale.
"Osiris, let her cross over!" Willow chanted.
Willow started to choke. A snake came out of her mouth. Fear engulfed the Scooby gang and they huddled together.
"It's a test." Tara insisted. "It's a test."
Meanwhile, the Buffybot found the demon horde in the city. The demons were rampaging and destroying the town. Glass shattered. Screams echoed. The Buffybot went up to the demons and said,
"That doesn't belong to you." The Buffybot paused. "Put it back."
"Slayer," Razor said. "I've been hearing interesting things about you."
"Yes," The Buffybot said. "I am interesting. These are your friends?"
"They're my boys, yeah." Razor said.
"Now tell them to go back on their loud bicycles and tell them to go back to wherever they came from." The Buffybot ordered.
"Or what?" Razor asked. "You'll electrocute us?" He punched her. "Hold her!"
The demons grabbed the Buffybot. Razor slashed her across the chest and there were electronics instead of blood.
"You're nothing but a toy." Razor said. "A pretty toy. Wanna play?"
The Buffybot kicked him and said, "I would, but you've injured me. I have to return to Willow."
She kicked and fought some of the demons. The Buffybot escaped and ran straight towards the gang. The demon horde went after the Buffybot and chased her.
At the grave, red and pink lights flowed through Willow. The gang had remained close, terrified. The Buffybot located Willow and the demon horde was right behind her. Motorcycles circled around them and eventually broke the Urn of Osiris.
"No!" Willow shouted and fainted.
The spell snapped and stopped. The spell sent Buffy Summers into the body of a Potential Slayer instead of her own body. Buffy opened her eyes and found herself in unusual surroundings. There was darkness all around her. She was no longer in Heaven. She was somewhere else. She was somewhere else on earth.
"Ella?" an unknown voice called out.
Buffy blinked and jumped. She was sitting down on a chair. She looked around her and noticed that she was outside. There was a firepit in front of her that burned brightly. Where the hell was she? Buffy wondered. This wasn't home. A female walked towards her. The woman was tall, curvy, and had long red hair. She smiled and sat down next to Buffy in another chair.
"Fire feels good doesn't it?" She asked.
Who the hell was she? Buffy wondered. "Uh, sure." Buffy said.
She put her hands out towards the fire. She felt warm…She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but she felt the warmth of the fire. When she was in Heaven, everything felt different. The air there was warm, but a different kind of warm. Nothing had form. There was this brilliant orange light all around her. There was no night and day. Buffy got up off the chair and went towards the house.
"Ella?" the female called out to her. "Are you okay?"
Buffy whirled around and nodded. "I just need to see something." She lied.
She opened the back door and went inside the house. She entered the kitchen, much like her old home, but it wasn't her home. This place was different. Everything was so odd and unfamiliar. Buffy fumbled through the house, room by room. She was weak. Then, she found a bathroom on the first floor. She opened the door and walked inside. Buffy closed the door behind her and noticed there was a lock.
Buffy quickly locked the door and turned on the light. There was a mirror above the modern sink. Buffy blinked and stared at her reflection. It was not her. She was in the body of another girl. Another girl with long red hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. Buffy shook her head.
"No!" She yelled.
Buffy was in shock. Why was she back? She wondered. Why was she in another girl's body? There was a knock at the door. Buffy held the doorknob in her hands. She was scared. This wasn't her real body. This wasn't her real home. What was she going to do? Buffy's thoughts ran wild with fear.
"Ella?" The female from before called through the door. "Are you okay in there?"
"Uh, yes," Buffy lied. "Everything is fine. I just need a few minutes alone!"
"Okay sweetheart, come back outside when you're ready." The female said and left.
Buffy wondered if that was the girl's mother. She wondered where she was. She needed answers and fast. Buffy breathed in and out. Then she realized that she needed a newspaper. It would tell her the date and the town that she was currently in. Buffy unlocked the door and turned off the light. She found the living room and luckily, there was a newspaper. It had not been thrown out yet. Buffy grabbed it and sat down on the couch. Her eyes scanned the newspaper for any mention of the town and the date.
She found the date: October 2nd, 2001. Buffy's eyes widened in fear. She was gone for that long?! Then she scanned the newspaper for the state that she was in. She was in Salem, Oregon. Buffy shook her head and put the newspaper down. She walked back outside and sat back down in her chair next to the female. The female smiled and put her hands closer to the fire. She stretched and yawned.
"Are you almost ready for bed?" She asked.
Buffy nodded. "I'm exhausted."
"It's getting late. I understand." The female said.
Buffy still wasn't sure who she was talking to. Was this her mother? She wondered. She needed to get out of here. Her next thought was that she needed to go see Angel. She wanted to see someone who had done this before. Died and then came back. The female stood up and said,
"Let's go to bed sweetheart."
"Okay, sounds good." Buffy said.
Buffy pretended to be the person that she was put into. All she knew was that her name was Ella. Buffy helped the unknown female put out the fire and gathered blankets. She helped the female put blankets into the living room. Buffy guessed where things belonged. She was really faking it. Then she and the lady walked upstairs. Buffy guessed which room was hers. There were only three bedrooms and one of them looked like an office. The lady turned to her and said,
"Good night Ella."
"Good night."
Buffy turned on the light and closed the door behind her. She sighed heavily. She was safe. There was a computer in the other room. She needed to look up the closest bus stops. Buffy opened her door a crack and saw that the lady's light was turned off. She tiptoed into the office room and sat at the pink computer. She guessed it was hers. Buffy pressed the power button and waited for it to power on. She hoped that it wasn't password protected. There was a profile that popped up and it said:
Ella Wright
Buffy clicked on the name and thanked the Powers that Be that it wasn't password protected. She pulled up Google and typed in "bus stops near me". She found a couple and found one that went from Portland, Oregon to L.A, California with three transfers. Now all she needed was a credit card. Buffy tiptoed back into her new bedroom. Buffy went straight to the closet. When she opened it, she found that all the outfits were color coded and there were more than five purses and an immense amount of shoes. Buffy rolled her eyes and whispered,
"Who are you?"
She searched all the purses and finally found a wallet. Awesome! She thought because there was money and a credit card in there. She put the items in her pockets and tiptoed back to the office room. Buffy bought the bus tickets and found bus stops that would take her to Portland. She was leaving tonight. There was no way that she was going to stay another minute in this weird situation. Buffy turned off the computer and tiptoed back into her bedroom. She found a duffle bag and packed some clothes.
Buffy was surprised that she hadn't woken the lady up yet. Good, she thought. That was good. She turned off the lights and walked out the front door. Thank God that lady was a heavy sleeper. There was no way she could have accomplished all this if the lady wasn't one. Buffy walked to the first bus stop and it took her to a nearby neighborhood. Then she went straight to Portland. Once she was in Portland, the next bus took her to L.A.
The trip was long and a couple of people tried to talk to her, but Buffy ignored them. She was on a mission and focused. She got to the first transfer and time went by quickly. Then Buffy transferred again and this one was a little longer than the last trip. Finally, Buffy was on her last transfer. She was going to see Angel.
Buffy winced at the thought of him. How could she face him like this? She had no idea how to explain any of this. Buffy sighed heavily as she arrived at L.A. She got off the bus and to her surprise, she saw a familiar face. She was sure it was him. Dark hair, glasses, well dressed, and British. He looked beat up and broken though. There were bandages around his neck. Buffy was sure it was him. Buffy hadn't seen him since high school. Buffy walked up to him and asked,
"Wesley?"
Wesley whirled around at the sound of his name. It came from a woman's voice. When he turned around, there was a total stranger in front of him. He pushed his glasses further up his nose and cleared his throat. It was still sore from the attack.
"I'm sorry, but do I know you?" Wesley asked.
Buffy shook her head. Right, of course he wouldn't recognize her in this body. How was she going to explain this? She wondered. Then she thought of it. She walked up to him and said,
"No, but I've seen pictures." Buffy lied. "You're Wesley Wyndam-Pryce right?"
Wesley nodded. "Yes, but I'm sorry-pictures? What pictures?"
"It's hard to explain, but I know you. You used to be a Watcher." Buffy said.
"That's correct." Wesley said, but he was still confused as to who this woman was. "How do you know all of this?"
"I'm a Potential. I'm new to L.A." Buffy lied again. "I'm sorry, were you leaving?"
Yes, of course he was leaving. Wesley was leaving L.A. He had lost friends. He had lost his family. He had lost everything. Wesley wanted to hop on the next bus and leave, but something told him to stay. Something told him that he was needed. Wesley gathered his things and said,
"Yes, I was heading out, but I-uh," he stammered. "Do you want to go for a walk?"
"Sure." Buffy said.
"Follow me." Wesley said.
The whole walk was strange. He was walking with a total stranger. Wesley was rather quiet. Buffy wondered what had happened to him. They walked to his apartment and he opened the door. Buffy stepped inside first and looked around. Almost every surface had a tea cup on it. There were papers and opened books scattered everywhere. Wesley hadn't planned on any company.
"Excuse the mess." Wesley said and closed the door behind him. He set his stuff down and walked over to the kitchen.
"That's okay." Buffy said and walked over to the couch. She sat down.
"Would you like some tea?" Wesley offered.
"No thank you." Buffy said.
Wesley made tea anyway. He set out tea and crackers on the coffee table. Then he sat across from Buffy and said, "So you've seen pictures of me." He paused. "From where?"
"My Watcher." Buffy lied. "But he's no longer with us."
"I'm sorry." Wesley said and sipped his tea. "Demon?"
Buffy nodded and Wesley set his tea cup down. "I have had a bad couple of days." He paused and adjusted his glasses. "Now who are you, really?"
