So, I began properly watching Doctor Who now and to be blunt, just the pilot already gave me a rather disdainful impression of Rose Tyler and I'm aware there are some people obsessed with her to the point of fanaticism and attacking and harassing anyone who have something against her with irrational hatred and unwelcome language and I've encountered more than enough of my share of likes of these, so to them: I don't care. Simple solution for you. Don't like, then don't read, click 'CLOSE' or 'BACK' button and don't waste anyone's time with your whining. I certainly am not going to give a damn.

Takes place at the end of 1x05 'World War Three'

Apologies if the characters are OOC, since I'm just getting into the fandom and this is my first Doctor Who fic.

Rose was about to enter the TARDIS with Nine, when Jackie spoke up. "Rose. Wait."

Rose turned to Jackie as she noticed her worried look. "Yes, Mum?"

"You were gone for a year last time you went into that thing." Jackie said.

"Mum, I know, but it wasn't really that long." Rose said.

"Not that long?" Mickey repeated incredulously. "Do you have any idea how worried we were? It was enough for me, when those living garbage cans replaced us. And I had to wonder if you were being chased by Yettis or whatever."

"It's a time machine. I could go travelling around suns and planets and ten seconds would have passed." Rose pointed out, gesturing around.

"Or maybe a year again. Or ten. You say you'd be back in a moment, but you didn't come back in a moment the last time." Jackie countered.

"You tell us nothing will happen, but after what just happened with those pig people, it just shows anything might happen anytime. For all we know, that… booth…" Mickey gestured at TARDIS. "Could fly into the sun and roast."

"Ah, it could almost happen." Nine quipped but the looks Mickey and Jackie shot him made him wisely shut up.

"Look, sweetheart. We're not trying to discourage you. But you can't take things like this for granted." Jackie said, holding Rose by her shoulders.

Rose nodded after a moment, seeing their point. "You're right. I'll be careful."

She hugged Mickey and Jackie before entering TARDIS with Nine.

I'll be plain, I don't see the appeal in Rose at all and I'm judging only from what I've seen so far halfway through Series 1 with 9th Doctor and from what I've heard about her character from others. The show seems to revolve around her, though to be blunt, I don't see her contributing much to the show and helping the Doctor at all, asides from being a damsel in distress, even though she has some uses here and there, I acknowledge, but she mistreats Mickey and Jackie and takes them for granted and has these puppy eyes for Nine and the forced attraction the show keeps trying to prop up keeps getting on my nerves, though I've already heard she becomes worse and worse as the show progresses, but I'll reserve my full judgment for later, until I'm sure the alleged issues with her are valid, I'm not saying they're not, but I haven't seen enough to reach accurate criticism of her character yet.
