"Sorry you can't meet all my pals, some like to live spread out here."
Gareb has taken Salem to an alleyway with a fire in a trashcan. Some of the other homeless are also there, including the Hobo Doctor: Jill. Once there, he started giving introductions to the few that were there.
"But anyway, there is Joey, he's someone who loves his boxes."
The first guy Gareb introduced was a homeless man who was completely living in and surrounded by cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes. His name was Joey
"You seem like someone who needs a box, here you go."
Joey decided to show some kindness to the newcomer by the only way he knew how, which was by giving her one of the boxes he lived in.
"O-Oh? Thank you?..."
Salem didn't really know how to properly react when she was given a box by the random homeless man
"You already met Jill, but this is her brother, Jack."
The next person that Gareb had introduced was another homeless man, though he also seemed to be some kind of storyteller of sorts, his name was Jack
"Did you know that back in my day, I fought in war because we didn't have enough muffins in America?"
Jack has already started saying something ridiculous, which made some of the other homeless roll their eyes and groan at what he might say next
"... What's America?"
Though much to the surprise of everyone, it was Salem who said something unusual, as if she had said something weird even for the storyteller.
"Charlie, someone who keeps our spirit up high during hard times."
But Gareb decided to move on and revealed the next person within the group, another homeless guy. He seemed to struggle not to laugh. His name was Charlie
"Hey, I heard that someone said you sounded like a Owl."
Charlie spoke to a snow-white woman, laughing intermittently between fits, who tilted her head as she didn't understand what he was even saying.
"Who?"
However a moment too late, Salem understood the joke trap she had fallen into, making her blush softly in embarrassment as the jokester started laughing loudly at the joke he'd made.
"Ashley, she is the kindest person you'll probably ever meet here."
The next person Gareb introduced this time was actually a homeless woman, who seemed normal in comparison to others, though the snow-white lady noticed that Ashley was muttering something.
"Um, did you say something?"
Salem couldn't hear what the muttering woman was saying, and wanted to make sure that she wasn't or was talking about her.
"I am just praying to our Lord and Savior for happiness and good health for you."
Ashley looks up to the snow-white woman with a kind smile, though what she said made her tense up slightly and look away, as if uncomfortable in what she said.
"And lastly, there is Kitty, she's new just like you, also a little shy, so please be gentle with her."
The person Gareb just introduced seems to be the youngest person here in this alleyway, possibly in her late teens or early 20s, which surprises the snow-white woman, making her a little sad to see this homeless lady named Kitty
"H-Hello…"
Kitty shyly looked down and avoided eye contact while softly speaking to the snow-white woman, who was just staring at her. This made the homeless girl feel uncomfortable.
"This is no place for a pregnant woman to be at, Kitty."
However, before the homeless girl could say anything about it, Salem suddenly said something that completely shocked her.
"H-How did you know?"
Though when Kitty basically confirmed what the snow-white woman had just said, the entire group suddenly looked at her with equal parts shock and surprise
"Wait, you're actually pregnant Kitty?"
Gareb couldn't believe it; he was left speechless in a sea of silence at this new piece of information.
"W-Well, um-"
Kitty felt even more uncomfortable and shy when all the attention was suddenly pointed and aimed at her, trying to hide her face behind her beanie and hair
"As a Doctor, I need to see if you're healthy, come here."
Though once the info of the young homeless girl was pregnant, everyone started taking action to treat her well and be kind, like Jill offering her medical services to her
"I'll save a box for you and the baby."
Joey tried to share some more of his boxes, while also keeping a small one ready in case the baby is born.
"You need this more than I do."
Jack pulled out a loaf of bread that he had been saving in his coat and gave it to the pregnant woman
"Would a joke make the baby happy?"
Charlie tried to offer some of his funny comedy, in hopes to make her feel more relaxed and hopefully make the baby laugh.
"I pray to God for the safety and health of your journey of pregnancy and soon to be delivered."
And finally, Ashley began praying to God again, in hopes that the homeless girl would have a safe pregnancy and a healthy birth.
"R-Really I'm fine, please don't worry about me-"
Though Kitty was trying her best to stop the group from being so nice to her and giving her everything in hopes of making her happy, the snow-white woman just couldn't help but watch them all with a surprised and amazed expression.
'They… They actually cared for one another…'
Seeing people, even though they were already homeless and had very little in their lives, being so kind and giving to one another, Salem couldn't help but smile at this, as she then held out her hand and suddenly summoned a few balls of colorful light in her palm, which immediately caught everyone's attention
"I hope… I hope we can get along well together…"
Was all Salem could say, as she gently tossed the magic light into the air above everyone, where it popped like a harmless firework, not only that, but when the particles of colorful light fell upon them, they all couldn't help but suddenly feel so much lighter and even healthier, as if she had all given them a miracle of some kind.
"Even without your light show, we would've always welcomed you, right guys?"
But despite that, Gareb had already welcomed the magic lady, as if it were already decided before she showed off such a light show, a feeling shared throughout the group, which definitely made the snow-white woman feel accepted and smiled softly in response
"Thank you, I promise not to be a bother to you all…"
And with that, once Salem was fully accepted and welcomed into the homeless community, she joined them around the trashcan fire, as she then began to speak with them to get to know each other better, as well as occasionally showing everyone more magical light shows, much to the amazement of the group. Everyone seemed happy at this moment, and no one seemed to have any problems with the magic lady… Well, despite everyone already agreeing to have her stay with them, a certain someone couldn't help but feel differently in the situation.
"Hey, are you sure it's a good idea to keep her here?..."
And that someone was none other than Bobbie, a homeless man filled with suspicion and distrust, especially of the newcomer who had entered their group.
"Come on Bobbie, don't be like that."
Gareb tried to calm his friend and reassured him that everything was going to be fine
"I'm just saying, something smells fishy about her…"
Though Bobbie wasn't easily convinced, as he continued to glare at the magic lady while talking with his fellow homeless people.
"Well, I will admit that her having rainbow balls float around was spooky, but I trust that she's a good person."
Gareb, even though he understood and somewhat shared his friends' feelings, still believed in giving people chances, a chance to earn their trust and acceptance, and that what he was doing with the snow-white woman who had entered their lives was right.
"Besides, she hasn't done anything wrong yet, please just give her a chance."
Gareb tried to convince his friend to feel the same, but he just huffed in response as he took a drink from his bottle
"Hmph, fine, but as soon as she does something dangerous, I want her out, got that?"
With nothing more to say, Bobbie just shook his friend's hand, even though he promised to give the magic lady a chance, it still sounded like he was still doubting
"He really needs to cut back on the drinking…"
Gareb could only sigh; he shook his head and walked back to the group. However, an unknown old man was hiding in the shadows, glaring at Salem. He wasn't planning to do anything to her; he was just watching, carefully watching, as if expecting something to happen at any moment now.
"Hm…"
I hope you don't mind me being creative with Salem magic, I just don't want it to be a simple laser attack spell like in the show.
(Do you think Grimms would make good Hellspawns?)
