Chapter 2

"I have informed teacher Negi that you will be studying in his class, if you have any questions, you can ask him or me," Takamichi commented looking at her as they walked down one of the corridors of the school. Leona nodded.

"What's the class like?"

"You'll find out soon enough," Takamichi smiled slightly.

/Grace of Destiny/

"So, any questions?" Negi asked, looking at the class from his desk.

"NO!" the class shouted.

"Okay." Negi said then looked at the clock on the wall. "He'll be here soon." he thought and looked at the class again. "Well, Takamichi told me that a new student is coming today, she'll be here soon, I hope-"

"Someone new?!" Fuka interrupted.

"If it's a student, it must be a girl!" Fumika exclaimed.

"Obviously." Chisame thought.

"As I was saying..." Negi said, trying to explain.

"I wonder what she's like." Kazumi said with a hand on her chin.

"I hope she is a normal student; I beg you, normal, normal, normal, normal, normal." Chisame whispered as she clenched her fists on the table.

"Don't worry Chisame! I'm sure she'll be just like us!" Yuna smiled happily and gave a thumbs up.

"That's what worries me!" Chisame exclaimed, looking at her seriously.

"Silence! Let Professor Negi speak!" Ayaka shouted, pounding her fist on the table.

The class fell silent.

"Sorry Negi, go on." Kazumi asked.

"Ah, what I meant was that I hope we all get along."

"Of course, Negi!" Haruna smiled broadly.

"A new student, huh?" Asuna said, crossing her arms under her chest.

"Are you curious Asuna?" Konoka asked, smiling at her.

"Huh? Well..."

"Is something wrong, mistress?" Chachamaru asked, looking at Evangeline.

"They're coming," Evangeline said with her arms crossed under her chest, looking at the classroom door with one eye open and the other closed.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and they entered the classroom.

"Good morning, Negi." Takamichi greeted.

"Professor Takamichi!" Asuna called.

"Good morning, Takamichi." Negi greeted with a small smile.

"As I told you, I'm here with the new student," Takamichi said and raised his hand towards Leona. "Well, I'll leave you two to get to know each other, I have some things to do, I hope it goes well." he smiled.

"That's fine," Negi said as he watched him leave the classroom. "Hum, I guess Takamichi must have told you that I will be your teacher, my name is Negi Springfield." he smiled as he looked at Leona. "I will be your tutor and also your English teacher, and these will be your classmates." Negi explained looking at the class, Leona turned and looked at them, she looked at them for a few seconds until she realised something.

"These people... I've seen them before." Leona thought.

"Mistress, she seems to be watching us," Chachamaru said in a calm voice.

"It must be because we've seen her before, it looks like she's staying in this class." Evangeline said, crossing her arms under her chest and looking at Leona. "That look, it seems empty." she thought as she met her gaze.

"Would you mind introducing yourself?" Negi asked, smiling at her.

"Ah, sure, my name is Leona, but people who know me usually call me 'Lio' for some reason, plus I'm single."

"Why did she say single!" Chisame thought, making several ticks with her eyebrow and staring at her.

"So that means you're not dating anyone! Ha! Ha! Ha!" Kazumi laughed. "Don't worry, most of us here aren't either."

"That's not the point!" Chisame thought.

"How old are you?" Yuna asked.

"14."

"How tall are you?" Makie asked.

"151 cm."

"Where are you from?" Haruna asked.

"Uh... I'm from a place quite far away, it's been a while since I left... And I vaguely remember it," Leona replied, looking up at the sky through one of the classroom windows as if thinking about something.

"What do you want..."

"Excuse me, we have to get on with the lesson..." Negi interrupted, looking at the class.

"You heard Professor Negi, no more questions!" Ayaka shouted.

"Huh?! But I wanted to..." Makie said, Ayaka giving her a withering look. "Nothing, I didn't say anything..."

"Well, Leona, you can sit down..." Negi said as he looked for a seat.

"The seat next to Evangeline is empty." Fumika smiled, raising her hand, some of the class becoming tense as soon as she said it.

"Uh... Yes, you can sit there, Leona." Negi said in a nervous tone of voice.

"Will she sit next to me?" Evangeline, asked looking seriously at Negi.

"There are no seats left..."

"Tsk." Evangeline grunted in annoyance. "That's fine."

"Thanks... Well, sit over there, Leona." Negi smiled, Leona nodded and sat down next to Evangeline. "We can continue." Then the school bell rang, ending the lesson. "Ah... apparently the lesson is over..." Negi said, patting him on the head from behind.

"Yay! We get gym with you Negi, don't we?" Makie asked, getting up from her seat.

"Yes, your gym teacher had something to do and told me to cover for him," Negi replied, looking at her. "I'll wait for you in the schoolyard." Then he went to the door and left the classroom.

"My dear teacher Negi will try to teach us one more subject so that we can continue our education as students-"

"Iinchou, we've got it, calm down."

"Professor Negi as a coach..."

*Ayaka's Imagination*

The sunset could be seen illuminating the sports field as Ayaka ran across it.

"I can't do it anymore..."

"Come on Iinchou, I know you can do it!"

Negi could be seen at the side of the finish line.

"Professor..."

At that moment, Ayaka could be seen running towards the finish line, as she passed it, she dropped to the ground from exhaustion, then looked up to see Negi.

"Professor..."

"Iinchou, I knew you would make it; I've always believed in you."

"Professor Negi, it was all thanks to you for helping me."

"Iinchou..."

Ayaka's face could be seen approaching Negi's.

*End of Ayaka's Imagination*.

"But what is this? This film you made for yourself will never be released!" Asuna shouted, pointing at her with her index finger.

"Excuse me, Asuna?"

"Do you want me to repeat it?"

"Come on, calm down, Negi is waiting for us." Misora said, looking at them.

"She's right, I can't waste my time with a monkey like you." Ayaka sighed and shook her head.

"Excuse me?!"

"Here we go..." Chisame sighed.

/Grace of Destiny/

The lesson began with a leisurely lap around the track, all dressed in gym clothes. However, normality was interrupted when some students started chasing Negi, causing him to flee from the track. In the confusion, Asuna and Ayaka started an argument that ended in a competition to see who could run the fastest. Unexpectedly, Ayaka stumbled, causing Asuna to crash into her, starting a chain reaction that ended with several students on the ground. After surviving these mishaps, the class decided to change activities and started playing baseball.

"So, your name is Leona, right?" Kazumi asked, looking at Leona who was sitting on the floor with the rest of the class. "My name is Kazumi, I'm responsible for the news in this school, would you mind answering a few questions for me?"

"As you wish."

"Some questions you have already answered... Is there anything you don't like?"

"What don't I like? Doctors and needles."

"Oh, do they scare you?"

"Something like that..."

"That was quick and honest." Makie thought.

"Well, have they told you who you'll be staying with while you're here?"

"Huh? No, do I have to stay with anyone?"

"Yes."

"They didn't tell me that... Damn."

"Ah, what are you wearing? Have you been injured?" Kazumi asked with a curious expression, looking at Leona's right arm. "I've never seen it on your uniform before."

"What, you mean this?" asked Leona showing him her arm, she had a black bandage covering her hand and part of her arm, also in her arm she had what looked like a chain with a small cross wrapped around her wrist, Kazumi nodded. "It's a bandage."

"Black in colour?"

"Well, let's just say it's special."

"Special?" Kazumi asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Let's just say it's my undoing," Leona muttered with a serious look on her face.

"How?" Kazumi asked, staring at Leona. Leona sighed.

"Just kidding, it's just an injury."

"Leona, it's your turn to hit." Negi said looking at her.

"Huh? Okay." Leona said, getting up from the floor, taking the bat Ako had given her and standing at the batting spot.

"Come on, Zazie! Win for your team! Make sure the efforts of all your teammates who have been left behind are not in vain!" Haruna shouted, looking at Zazie as she prepared to throw the ball.

"Haruna, it's just a friendly game, not a championship final," Yue said, looking at her sideways.

"Leona hit the ball hard! Don't be intimidated! Concentrate on the bat, concentrate Leona, concentrate!" Yuna shouted, looking at her.

Zazie prepared to throw the ball to Leona.

"Whenever you want."

Zazie threw the ball to Leona, but it went by so fast that Leona missed it.

"First strike!" Satomi shouted.

"Focus Leona! Concentrate! Come on, you have two tries left!" Yuna yelled as Shinna, Misa and Madoka cheered for the teams.

"Go Team!"

"Go Zazie! Go Leona!"

"Go Mahora!"

"I think they're taking this too seriously." Negi smiled nervously and looked at them with a drop behind his head.

Zazie prepared to throw again.

"Maybe now."

Zazie threw again, Leona tried to hit it but missed again.

"Strike two!" Satomi shouted.

"My lunch! My lunch is at stake!" Yuna shouted, putting her hands on her head.

"Yes! Just one more strike to get your lunch Yuna!" Haruna grinned and raised her fist.

"That's why they were like that..." Yue said looking at them.

"Leona! For God's sake! Hit the ball! Think of something, anything, my lunch is in your hands!"

"She seems a bit desperate..." Leona muttered, looking at Yuna with a drop behind her head. "Well, here we go."

Zazie prepared to throw again.

"Ready?" Satomi asked.

"This time..."

"Steady?"

"I won't miss."

"Go!"

Zazie threw the ball and Leona managed to hit it, but she hit the ball with such force that it shot out into one of the school windows, breaking it.

The class fell silent.

"..."

Then Professor Nitta's face appeared from the hole in the window.

"May I ask who was the person who broke the window and punctured part of the wall?!" Nitta shouted with an angry expression. "You! You are the one who jumped over the school gate this morning even though the school was locked!"

The class looked at Leona and she looked away.

"When school is out, you'll be cleaning the classroom!" Nitta shouted from the window as Haruna held back her laughter.

"Haruna, don't laugh in front of teacher Nitta," Yue whispered, looking at her.

"What a great start I've had," Leona sighed ironically.

/Grace of Destiny/

When the lesson was over, Leona had to tidy up the classroom.

"Well, this is it... why do I have to do this..." Leona sighed and sat back down at her desk.

"You." came a voice.

"Huh?" said Leona, turning to see Evangeline leaning against the door. "It's you..."

"The old man is calling you."

"Who? What old man? I don't remember any old man."

"I mean the headmaster."

"Ah, the headmaster, why does he want to see me?"

"Ask him, come with me."

"Huh? Are you coming with me?"

"He told me to come with you," Evangeline replied as she left the classroom, Leona following her.

/Grace of Destiny/

"It's here, I'm going home."

"Ah! Wait!" Leona cried as Evangeline turned and looked at her.

"What do you want?"

"No, just to thank you for coming with me."

"Never mind, save the thanks," Evangeline said as she walked down the hall.

"Let's see what he wants," Leona said as she knocked on the door and entered to see Takamichi standing next to the headmaster.

"Hi Leona, I guess Eva told you I wanted to see you, how was your day? Professor Nitta told me that you made a hole in the wall playing baseball."

"Uh... yeah, well," Leona said with a nervous tone.

"Don't worry, these things happen, anyway, what I wanted to tell you is that we found a place for you to stay," Konoemon commented, stroking his beard.

"Someone told me that today, will I be sharing a room?"

"Yes." Konoemon nodded and looked at her. "And we've already decided."
