Paw Patrol
From two feet to four paws
Chapter 2 Awakening and first contact
3rd POV
As the Paw Patrol got back to the Lookout and parked their cars, Ryder had a very thoughtful look on his face. Chase had an idea what it was about and decide to talk to his friend.
Chase: "Ryder? Are-are you okay?"
Ryder looked down at Chase and smiled a little sad, before bending down to pet his friends head. "I'm okay Chase. I'm just worried about that pup… I have never seen someone reacting like that… Why did he choose to… to jump? Why didn't he let me help?"
Chase also looked troubled by the pup's choice. "I-I don't know… at least, not for sure. I have to talk with him first…"
In that moment, Rocky came running towards Ryder and Chase. He had something in his mechanical arms from his backpack. "Guys! Guys! Look at that!" he yipped excitingly.
Ryder: "What is it, Rocky? What do you have there?"
Chase: "Isn't that the vest from the mysterious pup? Why do you have that?"
Rocky came to a halt and looked at the ground a bit guilty. "I wanted to help the pup by repairing and cleaning his vest. I thought it will maybe help him feeling better."
Ryder and Chase chuckled. "It's okay, Rocky. I think that was a nice thing to do." Said Ryder. "Is that what you wanted to show us?" Chase asked.
Rocky perked up and his tail was wagging. "Well, no. I wanted to show you this!" With the last word, he pulled a string on the vest and suddenly, two wings sprung from the vest! "Wow!" came from Ryder, Chase and the other pups who have gathered there. "That is SO cool! I was really surprised as I saw this!" explained Rocky.
Ryder: "Hmm… there is really more to this pup as we thought. It seems he also had a plan to escape as he jumped."
Chase: "We really need to talk to this pup once he wakes up. *Yawn* But that will be tomorrow."
Ryder: "You are right, Chase. Let's all get a goodnights sleep. And Rocky? Clean the vest tomorrow. You also need your sleep."
Rocky yawned and nodded, returning to his doghouse like the other pups and quickly fell asleep…
The next morning, the mysterious pup slowly stirred awake.
? POV
"Where am I?" I thought to myself as I began to return to the waking world. As I opened my eyes, I saw a cage door in front of me and plastic walls to the sides. There seems to be also a water and food bowl placed in this box. "Right… I remember know… Damn it. How could I think it was a good idea to jump from that damn cliff?" I looked around the box and over my body and I sighed in sadness as I saw my pup form. "And still not a dream…" I said out loud and noticed I was a bit more clean and also bandaged up. But it looks like they took my vest from me. I had to get that back.
I tested to stand up and was happy to notice, I could actually stand on my bandaged leg. I walked carefully over to the water bowl and drank a bit. It really has been some time since I had such clean water. I looked at the bowl with the dog food and scrunched my face in disgust. But my stomach growls and I relent to my needs. I took a few bites, just to stop my hunger feeling, but before I knew it, the bowl was empty.
"Huh… seems I was hungrier as I thought…" I said to myself and got a look at the door. The lock was a simple key lock. I looked around for something I could use for lock picking and found a paper hung on the cage door with a paper clip. "That will do." I said and quickly grabbed the clip with my mouth and got it in a proper form, which was not easy.
After being satisfied with my work, I took the clip in my mouth and moved the lock with my paw in position to get it open. It only took a few minutes, and I heard a satisfied click and the door opened. I quickly got out and looked more around my surroundings. "Looks like I'm in some kind of clinic." I thought to myself and walked around to find the exit and my vest. I couldn't find my vest and the door were more securely locked, which I couldn't get open that easily. I luckily found a window that was open and climbed up a bookshelf to reach it.
It was luckily still pretty early in the morning, so no one was watching me escape. I got from the bookshelf on the desk with the window and opened it a little more before jumping out. My bad leg hurt like hell as I landed on it, but I bit through the pain for now.
I shook my head and started walking towards, what I learned from my time here, is the HQ of the Paw Patrol. I was pretty sure they had my vest, since I couldn't find it in the clinic. And if it's not there, I can at least check that off my list of possible places.
"Well, I hope they didn't took my stuff from my vest. I could really use some music right now…" I thought to myself and hummed a tune in my head.
"Some days , you're the only thing I know.
Only thing that's burning when the nights grow cold…"
With that playing in my head and humming the tune, I made my way towards the Lookout.
Back at the Lookout
As the sun rose over the horizon, the pups started to wake up as well. As each of them got out of their doghouses and stretched their bodies, Rocky grabbed the vest from last night and started working on it, hoping to get it ready for later, when they got to Katie's to check on the pup.
"I hope this will make him feel better." He said and started making sure the pockets were empty, before he started cleaning it. He found what looked like a walkman with headphones. He placed them aside in a basket and continued looking. The next thing he found was a little, black box, which he placed in the same basket. The last thing he found, was a photo. "Huh. I wonder who these are. Maybe his family?"
As Rocky placed the last item in the basket, he started patching the vest up, which was a bit torn in a few places. It actually looked a bit too big for the pup to wear. Maybe that belonged to his owner? Or did he found it? The questions just started piled up with no answers so far. As Rocky was working, he heard Ryder call for Breakfast.
Ryder: "Pups! Breakfast is ready!"
Pups: "Yay!"
And all the pups gathered at the front of the Lookout and to their respective bowls. As they started digging in, Ryder explained the plans for this morning.
Ryder: "Alright, pups. Once you are finished, I will call Katie and see if the pup is awake and fit enough for some visitors and questions."
Pups: "Alright, Ryder!"
Ryder: "*Giggles* Enjoy your breakfast. I get my own ready." said Ryder and got back inside. Rocky was surprisingly the second pup, close behind Rubble, to finish his food.
Rocky: "I have to go back to finish the vest before we go visiting the pup. See you later!" said Rocky and quickly left for his doghouse to continue his work.
The other pups finished their food as well and got to play for a bit. No one noticing, the bandaged pup behind the tree overhearing their conversation.
?: "Hmm… seems like I have to get to this 'Rocky' for my stuff." I said to myself and thought about a plan to get my stuff back. I saw the other dogs still eating, which means, 'Rocky' would be alone in his doghouse.
"Well, no time like the present." I said to myself and quickly made my way towards the green dog house I saw him enter. The door was open and I poked my head inside. The first thing I saw, was a lot of junk and other stuff lying around. The second thing I saw Rocky with his back to the door and holding something purple in his forepaws. This is my vest! I just hope he didn't damage it accidently, but it looked like, he was really careful with it.
?: "Ahem! Excuse me?" I said while clearing my throat to get his attention. With a startled yelp, he turned around and looked surprised to see me standing in his dog house. "I believe that vest belongs to me.
Rocky was first perplexed, still shocked from suddenly finding me standing behind him, and just tilted his head a bit. I mirrored his movement and did the same. Then, his eyes got a bit wider as he seems to realize who I am and he started to smile and his tail was also wagging.
Rocky: "Oh! It's you! You are the pup from Yesterday! Did Katie bring you here?"
?: "Something like that. I'm here because you apparently have something that belongs to me. I would like it back." I said with no malice, but with authority.
Rocky was still smiling and happily handed me my vest. I quickly put it on, with only a little struggle, and felt already immensely better.
Rocky: "Before I forget, I had to take some items out of the vest, to not damage them when I cleaned it. They are right here." He said and showed me a basket with the few items that belong to me. I put my stuff quickly back in their places. I hold the photo in my paw and looked at it… Two adult humans, two younger girls and a little boy smiling at the camera…
I smiled a bit, but felt some moisture collecting in my eyes. I quickly put it away and instead equipped the walkman to the front of my vest and the headphones around my neck.
?: "Thank you. I really appreciate you cleaning and fixing my vest for me. I better go now." I nodded at him and turned around. But he quickly got around me and blocked my path.
Rocky: "Hey, wait! I think the others want to talk to you as well! Ryder and Chase were really upset yesterday and want to know more about you." He explained with a happy attitude.
I got a bit nervous as he mentioned the others wanted to talk to me. I couldn't let that happen.
?: "Ehm… you see… I…" but before I could come up with anything, Rocky's dog-tag started beeping and glowing. I was startled a bit and jumped a bit back. "Wh-what is that?" I asked, a bit panicking.
Rocky looked at his dog-tag and then to me. "Hey! It's okay. That is just the signal for us members from the Paw Patrol to come to the lookout. That means Ryder needs us!" He exclaimed happily and turned around to run to the Lookout. Before he was out, he turned to me and said: "You can just wait here, until we get back. That shouldn't take too long." And with that, he was gone.
I looked out and saw him running into the Lookout tower with the other pups, who luckily didn't notice me.
I had a good idea what that call might be about and decided to get out of here. I run towards the town to get from there back into the woods. It was too risky to stay here.
