Summery: A routine trip off-world has long-lasting effects for SG-1. Meanwhile, Jack has terrestrial trouble too, when his half-sister is recruited to the SGC and his worlds threaten to collide and all his secrets are in danger of being exposed.
Disclaimer: I do not own "Stargate SG-1" the series. I believe it is owned by MGM. No copyright infringement is intended. No disrespect is intended. I am merely intrigued by the possibilities.
A Matter of Degrees

"I think twelve hours may have been too long. In the future, I recommend a MALP take at least forty-eight hours of environmental readings so we can be sure conditions will remain viable for the whole of the team's mission," Janet Fraiser felt bad that she hadn't adequately predicted how hard the conditions would be for SG-1.
"I agree. Don't blame yourself, Doctor, working here at the SGC we are always learning more from hindsight than I would prefer – but there just isn't a manual for this type of work. And don't forget, they could have come back early – in fact, when we debrief – I'll be asking why they didn't," General Hammond replied quietly, his tone fitting in well in the still and dimmed infirmary that was once again holding SG-1. Even Teal'C lay stretched out on a bed so Janet and her team could monitor his temperature and other symptoms as his symbiote worked to heal him even after several hours of kelno'reem.
"Yes, General," Janet replied by reflex as they stood shoulder to shoulder, keeping watch on their friends and comrades.
The colonel, Sam, and Daniel were all in worse shape than Teal'C. Dehydrated and suffering from heatstroke, the abrupt temperature change between the planet and the gate room had seen all four team members collapse – and Sam and Daniel lose consciousness. Colonel O'Neill hadn't passed out, but he struggled to remain coherent enough to answer Janet's questions as they were transported through the concrete corridors of the SGC on speeding gurneys.
Now, over eighteen hours since they'd gated home and the three human team members were all still asleep – Colonel O'Neill was the only one to have been awake off and on. He'd asked after his team – been reassured by both Janet, and Teal'C, himself, that the Jaffa would be well. Janet had tried to insist Sam and Daniel and he would be fine too, but every time he woke to find that the other two still hadn't, he worried that they'd 'permanently cooked their massive brains this time'. At that thought, Janet instinctually checked the monitors hooked up to her patients to reassure herself yet again that they would eventually recover.
Author's Note: I warned in my author's note on the first chapter that many of the chapters in this story are quite short. I found when I was editing the story that I liked the pace it gave, but since improving my pacing is one of my goal areas, I'd be interested in what anybody else thinks as we go along. I won't be posting tomorrow, since it'll be Sunday for me, but I'll be back with chapter four on Monday. Thanks for reading! ~ Vi
