Healing

The next day Kara started testing Lena's new device and as soon as she did it became obvious that it helped a lot with the seizures and the chronic pain on her back.

Her seizures became more sparse, having gone from almost daily to almost a weekly occurrence only, which made Kara's mood change exponentially, and Lena's by consequence.

The mood in the Danvers-Luthor household was significantly better with Krypto cheering Kara and helping her when the seizures did hit. The device Lena invented was not a cure all, but Kara's life had regained normalcy it had been lacking for a few months since the seizures started.

With life being back on track Lena and Kara proceeded with the IVF treatment, looking to have Lena get pregnant and have their first child together.

Eight weeks after starting on the device Kara's seizures had gone down to one every 15 days and getting better. They both decided it was a good time for Lena to be fertilized.

Having done all the tests and gone through the hormonal treatment Lena was ready and today was the day. The couple was in the waiting room at the Clinic waiting for their doctor to call.

"Miss Lena and Kara Danvers-Luthor please come in." The doctor's assistant called them in.

Inside the procedure room was Doctor Rhea Fields and her assistant.

"Good morning Lena and Kara, today is the day we will put the fertilized egg inside Lena, its' a simple procedure if you please Lena change into the gown we have in there for you , we will be waiting here for you." Doctor Rhea motioned to the stall on the side of the room where she could change.

"If you want help I can go with you love." Kara said as she and Lena entered the room.

"It's okay love, I will just be out in a minute." Lena bent down and kissed her wife before going to change.

Kara waited patiently while Lena changed and after a few minutes everything was done and they were off with a few recommendations to help make sure it would work.

They got home and were greeted by a smiling Krypto.

"Hey boy, we are home. Yes you are a good boy." Kara said as Krypto jumped on her chair.

"I will lie down for a while okay love? If you need me just wake me up alright?" Lena said as she walked in the direction of their bedroom.

"Sure love, I will join you in a second, just going to put some food for Krypto." Kara said as she opened the cabinet that held it.

Kara was now the one to dote on her wife, having been the one to be doted for so long she would take very good care of her now hopefully pregnant wife.

It was their only chance, as only one of her frozen eggs had been viable. They found the perfect donor and everything had gone well with the whole process and she was feeling so much better, not only her seizures had gone down the pain she usually felt on her back was much less acute and more manageable.

The tide seemed to have turned and good things were happening. Soon they would have their family grow. Kara was already getting things ready to make her wife a good and healthy lunch, she would do anything for her now.

Two hours later Lena and Kara were having lunch Kara had prepared and talking about things that needed to be done.

"Do you think we should get a big house Lee? I know what you said before but now we have Krypton and hopefully a new member to our family, we may need a bigger space." Kara said as she ate her pasta carbonara, one of Lena's favorite.

"Maybe Kar, it is a thing we can think about if this works. But it would be a big undertaking unless we can find the perfect accessible home for you that is already made." Lena knew she would have to address this, but since Kara was in a better place now it was a conversation worth having.

"Yes, I know that Lee, I love our home and how you fitted it to us, not just for me. I know it's a big apartment and all I just always envisioned having a family and living in a big house."

"I can do the searching and if we find something worth looking at would you be willing?" Kara asked with her most puppy dog eyes, that Lena would never say no to.

"Love not that face, you know I can't say no to you…alright you can look. But we both have to like it okay?" Lena said as she reached for Kara to kiss her.

"Mnnm of course love." Kara said as Lena kissed her lifting her off the chair a bit.

That led to other kisses and hands squeezing buts and things they hadn't shared in a while.

Lena had been there for a week already, Kara was in induced coma in the ICU, she was too unstable to be moved witch Lena really wanted to do, to take her wife to the best hospital money could buy. She wanted her wife to have all the chance she needed, Kara now needed all the help she could get and it killed Lena she couldn't give her, so as soon as she could she would transfer Kara to National City hospital to receive the best care possible.

Until then Lena spent all her days by Kara's bedside, Sam was taking care of the company and Elisa was making arrangements for Alex's funeral, she didn't know if she would attend, she didn't want to leave Kara's side for any moment and risk her waking up alone.

The doctors told her they had taken Kara out of the induced coma the night before so any moment now she could wake up.

Lena knew it would a shock to her, Kara's right arm was in a cast and legs were paralyzed, her head was doing better now, the bandage now gone. But it was still a lot for someone to take in.

The swelling had gone down a little and Kara's face was more like herself, what they weren't certain was if the incomplete injury would make Kara's arms paralyzed as well or if she would be able to move them. In all considered that could be worked on according to the doctors.

Kara would have a hard time, but for Lena at that moment the most important thing was that Kara would wake up well, that she was alive, everything else they could work on later.

Lena was reading an e-mail on her phone when she heard a moan, she looked up to find Kara looking at her with wild eyes.

"Ahgnn what, Lena? Why everything hurts…." Kara's speech was slurred, she still had her neck and back in the contraption to relieve the pressure, so she couldn't move her neck, the only thing she could move in theory was her left arm, which they still didn't know if it was paralyzed or not.

"Hey love, I am here, shhh don't try to move. You were in a car accident and you are in the hospital now. Calm down, I am here." Lena was reassuring Kara, trying to calm her down, tenderly caressing her face.

Kara's eyes were full of tears, Lena didn't know if they were from pain or something else.

"I can't move…what's happening ?Lee…" Kara slurred speech was mixed with jumbled thoughts and moans of pain, so Lena pressed the button for the nurse to help.

"It will be okay love, I'm here and I won't go anywhere, just try to relax." Lena continued to caress Kara, trying to calm her down while the nurses entered the room.

"She just woke up, I think she is in pain, please help her." Lena was panicking, Kara was trying to move her neck which was strapped to the device and that could damage her spine even more.

"It's okay we will sedate her." The head nurse said as they administered the medicine to Kara, which made her immediately go to sleep again.

As Kara's eyes closed Lena could see all the despair in them, maybe Kara didn't know exactly what had happened but she knew something was very wrong with her.

One day later the doctor had already talked with Lena, Kara was getting better and her having woken up was a good sign that she could be transferred, she also no longer needed to ne the contraption, having the pressure released so Lena arranged for the transfer.

They had just arrived at the best hospital Lena could find, she knew now would start a hard process for Kara. The new doctors told her the same as the others, they would have to wait and see, but Kara would need the support of her family to deal with everything now. The media was also trying to get interviews and find out about Kara's accident but Lena made sure nothing got out.

Their friends and family all visited Kara, Lena even attended Alex's funeral now that Kara was in National City and Eliza was taking turns with Lena at the hospital.

Kara has woken up three more times since the first time but didn't spend more than a few minutes awake in each of them.

The doctor explained this happened because her body needed to heal, and all her energy was targeted at that. All those times were much like the first one, Kara was confused and scared, but in each of them Lena made sure to make her feel safe.

After a week in the new hospital Kara woke up in her new room, her neck wasn't immobilized anymore , she could now move it, so Lena thought maybe that helped with her not being as scared as before and waking up more alert.

"Lee? Are you there? What Is happening?" Kara woke up as she looked around, it was a different place, all the walls were green and she felt so much pain in her back, her hands tingled, her right arm felt like a truck was sitting on it, her head screamed at her for how much pain she was in, her whole body felt dormant. She tried to move but only her neck would respond to her.

"Hey love, I am here, I didn't leave your side. Calm down, I will explain to you okay?" Lena said as she got up and went to Kara's side.

She noticed Kara was looking around, her face contorted in pain, she hadn't moved her hand yet, only tilted her neck a bit.

That worried Lena a bit but she wouldn't say that now, she needed to comfort Kara, they would make it through this.

Kara only nodded a bit, a tear escaping her left eye.

"Are you in pain love? I will ask them to give you something." Lena couldn't handle seeing Kara in pain, in any sort of way.

"No please, just tell me… I want to be awake." Kara seemed to understand that she needed to know what happened and pain meds would make her sleep again.

Lena held Kara's left hand in hers, and the blonde looked at it a little puzzled. " I will explain, just please don't panic, it's not good for you."

A sob escaped Kara's throat, she realized now what she was seeing, Lena was holding her hand and she couldn't hold hers back.

She tried moving her legs and nothing happened, her right arm seemed to be in a cast so that made more sense, but the rest of her, she could only feel pain and it was hard to discern what was what.

"It's okay Kara. You will be fine, you were in a car accident after you left Central City after the tournament, you were taken to the hospital there, but now you are in National City hospital, I had you moved here, it's been two weeks now. You suffered a few injuries, you broke your right arm, hit your head real hard, and broke your back." As Lena described what happened tears streamed down Kara's face more fiercely, until sobs were the only thing Lena could hear.

Lena was just thankful Kara hadn't asked yet about Alex, but she knew it wouldn't take long.

"I can't move… am I … paralyzed?" Kara asked between sobs.

Lena realized she too was sobbing now. She couldn't answer that, it was hard to say the words, she could only nod, and soon as she did Kara seemed to freeze.

"It may not be permanent Kar. They said if you work on it you can regain some movements, and I will help you with everything, I will be there for you love, always, I won't leave your side. Please don't despair, you could have died Kar, but you are here alive." Lena was lost, she didn't know how to fix this for Kara.

Kara couldn't process this, everything seemed like a dream, a really bad one.

"I can't … I don't want this…why?" Kara couldn't remember this accident, nothing Lena as saying was making any sense to her.

Why was this happening? Why is it so hard to move her hand… her legs.. she can't feel them anymore…so it hit Kara, it's not a dream. It's a nightmare.
