AREA 1
BACKYARD OF BEGINNINGS
It all started when I woke up. I had this strange feeling, like there was something off, but I ignored it and sat up in my bed.
Oh, that's what felt wrong; this wasn't my room! I got out of bed in a hurry, when I noticed something else. This wasn't even my body! Before, I was a bit on the shorter side, but now I felt more like I was 5 feet tall. I seemed to have gained a bit of muscle though, but that wasn't very much of an achievement, seeing as I barely worked out before. Though all these comparisons seemed like nothing when compared to my most glaring change… I was Asian now!
After spending a few minutes taking in all my changes, I finally started looking around my room to see if I could spot any clues as to where I was. It didn't take long for me to spot it, a poster depicting a team of superheroes. And then I remembered. I remembered my name here (Michio Nishi, if you were wondering), I remembered my parents, and I even remembered how to read and write Japanese, a language that I'd only really gotten exposure to through watching various anime.
But the most important things I remembered was that the year was 2011, It was currently the beginning of February, and the town I lived in was called Brockton Bay. If that didn't do it for me, this life's memories included those of people with superpowers, called 'capes', as well as the existence of giant monsters called 'endbringers'. I even remembered how some girl at my school had to be evacuated because somebody stuffed her in a locker a few week back.
So that was it, I was in Worm, inserted into the body of some random nobody in a world where I could die at any time, and to make it worse, I didn't even remember the source text all that well. Oh, sure, I could remember the basic timeline, and I had a pretty good grasp on most of the dates, but I'd read so much fanfiction after reading the original that I couldn't be sure what I remembered was fanon or not. I couldn't even be sure that things would go according to how they're supposed to go! What if I walk by tattletale, and her power told her I knew the future? Of course, I wasn't even sure that was how it worked, but my point still stands nonetheless.
So of course, I had to actually make use of my knowledge. (But my knowledge isn't even that good)
And even then, I was just one person, I couldn't fly, or shoot lasers, or even control bugs, I was all alone. (no allies, no power, I'm completely useless)
I doubt I could convince anyone who I really was, and even if I could, I couldn't make sure they wouldn't take advantage of me. (I can only trust myself, but I can't do anything alone)
And… and what? How would I make sure I wouldn't just die on the street on the way to school tomorrow? (I have no protection)
Oh, I get it now. I'm not meant to be able to do anything, am I? (There's only one me, after all)
I'm just here to die a horrible death, while the rest of the story goes as planned, aren't I? (But I don't want to die)
I think… I think I'm just going to sit here, while all the weight of what's essentially guaranteed to happen kicks in.
Oh… there's sleep, coming to claim me. Goodbye, cruel reality, and hello to the land of dreams.
-DANDORI-
I woke up, for the second time that day, feeling off. Not like how it felt when I first woke up, but more like I had this urge. This need to make something, to get my hands dirty, to get up off my butt. And so I did, I went out into our house's backyard, in some sort of trance, and I got to work. I dug up my mother's precious onion garden, and I spent the next few hours working on something, though I didn't know what yet. When I was done, I was left with a rather familiar creation, looking like something you'd see out of some sort of game… oh. I knew why it was familiar, it was an Onion from Pikmin! It seemed to be a mix of red, yellow, and blue, which make sense, as those are the three main Pikmin colors.
I frantically looked around, trying to see if I could find something to feed it, when I spotted a small rabbit. I crept up behind it, and caught it, carrying it over to my Onion. The Onion, standing at around 6 feet off the ground, with the top at nearly 9 feet, quickly took the rabbit from my hands using some sort of tractor beam. The rabbit entered the Onion, and not even a second later, a single red Pikmin seed came out of the top, landing in the ground and soon sprouting a single leaf out the top. I began to reach for the Pikmin, when I realized… I didn't have any way of controlling these Pikmin.
I frantically ran back inside the house, looking for anything to use, when I saw an old jumpsuit. Grabbing it, as well as anything else my instincts told me to grab, I hurried back outside and got to work.
When I was done, I was left with something that looked nothing at all like what was used to make it. It should have looked like a jumpsuit with some various junk stuck on it. But instead, it looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. I quickly put it on, and I immediately knew how to use it. I walked back over to the Onion, and I plucked the Pikmin from the ground. It looked around a little at first, but after it saw me, it just stood there, seemingly waiting for instructions. Of course, I did what felt right, and I threw it at a nearby squirrel. It was shockingly fast, and after a few seconds, it brought back the squirrel's body. It set it underneath the onion, and soon another Pikmin seed popped out. This time it was blue, and it yet again dug into the soil, sprouting a single leaf. Before I went to pick it, I noticed the red one trying to chase after another squirrel. I quickly used my suit's whistle, and called him back to me.
Pulling the blue one out of the ground proved to be just as easy, and so now I had two Pikmin. I quickly sent them after one more small rodent, and pretty soon I had one Pikmin of each type.
So, now that all the excitement has left my veins, I took a moment to actually think about what had actually happened. I was now a cape, which solved my main issue of not being able to do anything. I was also a tinker, which was extra good, seeing as how they can just keep on making better tech. I even knew what my specialization was! I had the ability to make things from Pikmin, though if I could improve on it would yet to be seen. If I could, my first task would probably be to find a way to get rid of my Pikmin's weakness to water, seeing as to how in just a few months Leviathan would attack, and someone who's weak to water is going to be more than useless there.
There was also the matter of if I should join the Wards. On the one hand, I would have access to so many more resources than before, but on the other, I would have to deal with being restricted with what I could create. Though then again, there wasn't anything stopping me from just keeping a secret stash of my creations. And I did also remember what usually happened to independent tinkers, so it was probably best to join some kind of team. Yeah, I've made up my mind, I'm gonna join the Wards!
"Michio?"
Oh right, my parents were supposed to be back soon. Now how to explain this to them…
So that was the first chapter of my very first fanfiction! I hope everyone likes it! Chapters will probably be updated irregularly. Next time, Michio will be going in for power testing!
Though, with that in mind, I could really use some advice on how to write a power testing scene. Also, I don't know what his threat level should be, so I could use some help with that too. If it helps, his power lets him make all wildlife and tech from the Pikmin series of games. He also has a minor thinker power, which mainly improves his ability to plan strategically and think ahead. Basically, it helps keep him from having any Dandori Issues.
I also could use some advice on a cape name. I'm thinking something like 'Captain Dandori' or 'PikMan', but let me know if you can think of anything better!
Feel free to tell me about any errors that need fixing, and I'll see you all next chapter!
