Hi Readers: My apologies for the constant changing of stories. After all, the last thing I want to do is continuously restart a story. But unfortunately, that's precisely what I'm doing again. However, I think I got an idea that'll work. An idea I already wrote in the past. Hope you guys enjoy it and let me know what you think of the story. Here we go with this new journey we're going to start now.

Chapter 1

Birthing Center, Gaffney Chicago Medical Center – August 29, 2020
In through the nose, out through the mouth. Those were the breathing techniques which her birthing coach taught her while she was in Puerto Rico: how to breathe in stressful situations like the one she currently finds herself in. Though, can anybody ever be prepared for what Gabriela Casey was currently going through? After all, she was dealing with something that no woman should ever have to deal with: the knowledge that this could very well be her last day on earth due to the fact that she has an aneurysm on her right iliac artery. In fact, it was why this never should've happened (according to her husband Matt). If he had it his way, then she would never be pregnant. Though, she was pregnant and ready to give birth at any time now. Just one problem: she was the only one here to take care of the baby, regardless of what happens. Though, the doctors are trying to make her change that…by calling her husband.

The biggest one pushing for that to happen? Matt's friend (from when he was with Hallie), Dr. Natalie Manning. "So, you and the ginger still haven't tied the knot." Sighing, Natalie looked at Gabby as that was the last thing she wanted to talk about right now; especially when she's trying to tell her that she needs to call Matt. She needs to tell him that she's here, just in case something happens; after all, she's well aware of exactly what's going on. That's something she needed to know from the start. "No, me and Will haven't gotten married. Now, stop changing the subject. Are you positive that you don't want anybody here with you Gabby? I mean, I don't want to say it…" Gabby sighed when Natalie said that, well aware of just what the doctor was trying to say: does she really want her baby to be alone if something happened to her? "I already have a note written in my bag, just to let you know." Natalie agreed.

After all, that was something Gabby already told her. "Gabby, you already told me that. However, you need to let me know something else. I don't want to say this, but do you want to have Matt here just in case something happens? And not that I want to bring my friendship with him into this, but you sure that you want to steal this experience away from him? An experience he's always wanted to have?" Gabby sighed as Natalie said that, though she was more than ready to stick to her guns. "Matt doesn't need to know unless I give birth successfully and survive." And let's just say that Matthew Casey was not a fan of that statement, something he decided to tell his wife the moment he heard that statement. "Excuse me? But what did you just say?" Looking in front of her when she heard that, Gabby got nervous as she saw her husband standing there. "Glad to see that you've been keeping safe during the pandemic."

Gabby said, referring to the mask that he was wearing on his face this morning. "Oh, always. I'm a…" Matt then realized what his wife was trying to do: change the subject so that they weren't talking about the fact that she's pregnant and ready to give birth to their child. "Hey! Don't change the subject." Gabby took a breath when Matt said that, well aware that she couldn't change the subject right now. Not when they need to be there for each other. But first, Matt needs to speak to her alone, which is why he went to look at Natalie. "Natalie, can you do us a favor?" Turning to look at Matt, Natalie smiled. "Can you get Dr. Letts to join us here? She was Gabby's doctor when we learned about the aneurysm." Turning her head to look at Gabby, Natalie took a breath. "I need Gabby's consent due to the fact that I am her doctor. I need to ask her for permission to bring another doctor on." Matt then looked at his wife.

After all, he wasn't exactly the happiest with her at the moment; yet, he was also scared. So, he took a breath and just looked at his wife as he walked up to her. After which, he went to grab her hand. "Hey, can we talk in a minute? I want to talk to you Gabby. I want to be with you right now. But, you need to get the professionals so that you can have the best chance to survive this." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that she needs to have Dr. Letts on her team if she wants to survive this. "Natalie, can you ask Dr. Letts to join us? Ask her to join my team so that she can help me?" Natalie agreed with Gabby, as she can do that. "And can you give me and Matt some time?" Natalie agreed with Gabby, as she most certainly can give them some time; time that they need due to the fact that they need to talk and just figure things out. And that's precisely what they're going to do now that they're alone.

And even better, Gabby decided to let her husband yell at her if he needed to. "Go ahead, yell at me. I know you want to." Matt sighed when Gabby said that, as that was the last thing he wanted to do. He didn't want to be mad at her, he was just scared. And that's precisely what he decided to tell his wife as he walked up to her bed. "Here, can I sit down with you? I want to talk for a minute as I hold you in my arms." Gabby agreed with Matt, as that's precisely what she wants him to do anyways; she wants him to hold her due to the fact that she was scared at the moment. And Matt could see that, as he walked up to his wife and just took a breath as he opened the covers to get on the hospital bed with her. After which, he sat down and just took a breath while wrapping his arm around her and holding her close to him; meanwhile, Gabby reached for Matt's hand and grabbed it as she intertwined their fingers.

Stroking her hand with his thumb, Matt smiled at the woman he loves. "Are you mad at me?" Matt sighed as he looked at his wife. "No, just disappointed. Gabby, you're pregnant and you didn't even tell me." Gabby agreed with Matt. "A doctor here had to call me to tell me that you were here, as I'm your medical proxy. I think it was Dr. Letts, but I'm not exactly sure due to the fact that I just rushed here after taking time off after hearing Gabby's here, pregnant, giving birth." Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what she hopes to do: give birth to their child. "And that's what I hope I can do Matt. I want to give birth." Placing his hand on her stomach, Matt smiled at the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world. After which, he took a breath and sighed. Pressing his lips to her forehead, Matt looked down into his wife's eyes. "Gabby, I love you. You know that, right?" Gabby agreed with her husband.

How could she not know that he loves her? That's an obvious question. "Baby, of course, I know that you love me." Matt agreed with his wife and just took a breath as he went to take off his mask, which he was wearing to protect her from COVID-19. "Can I take off your mask?" Gabby agreed, letting him take off her mask. That way, she could kiss him. And that's precisely what Matt did as he bent down and kissed her nice and slowly. "God, I love you and I am so glad to have you home." Gabby agreed with her husband as he told her that, taking a breath as she looked down at her stomach. "Even if it's due to the fact that I need to give birth." Leaning his forehead against hers, Matt sighed. "Gabby, I'm just scared. You should've called me babe. You should've been the one to tell me, rather than the doctor here. I mean, how do you not do that to your own husband? This isn't just your child Gabby." Gabby agreed with Matt.

After all, this is just as much his baby as it is hers. "And had you told me, I would've either come to see you; or, I would've insisted you come home. Especially with COVID. I mean, what were you thinking Gabby? I know you wanted to hide this from me, but you should've come home when COVID hit. I told you that then, and I know now that this is the entire reason why you didn't want to come home. But babe, think of the alternative. You could've had COVID and had even more problems." Gabby looked down when Matt said that, well aware that was the case. "I know." Taking a breath, Matt looked at the woman he loves as he took a breath and tried to relax. "But we're past that now." Gabby was surprised when she heard Matt tell her that. "We are?" Matt agreed, as they most certainly are. "We can be, due to the fact that we're having a baby with each other. Gabby, we're having a kid." Gabby smiled.

After all, that was the truth. She and Matt are having a baby boy. "Andrew Matthew Casey." Looking down at his wife, Matt was shocked. "Hold on a second, are we having a boy?" Gabby smiled, as she agreed with her husband. "Yes, yes we are having a boy. It's why I didn't tell you. I knew that you would want him but would also want me to end the pregnancy because it was a risk. But babe, I'm here. We're both here. I've made it through the entire pregnancy and I'm ready to give birth. I'm here with you, at least for a little while longer." Matt shook his head, as he didn't want to hear that. "I don't want to hear you say that, as I refuse to believe that you aren't going to be here for good. I know what I said in the past, but I'm just…" Going to grab Matt's hand, Gabby intertwined their fingers as she already knew that he was talking to her out of fear. "Scared out of your mind that you're going to lose us?"

When Gabby mentioned that he was speaking to her in a way that showed just how scared he was to lose her, Matt took a breath as that's precisely how he felt: he was scared that he was going to lose both her and their child, which is why he pressed his lips to her forehead while holding her close. "That's exactly how I feel Gabby. I've felt that way since the moment I heard you were pregnant. But now is not the time to think this way, as I need to think positively that everything will be okay. I want you to survive this babe. And if I have it my way, you are going to survive as you're a strong one." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, glad that he was (seemingly) coming around to the idea of her having the baby. "Are you ready to let me give birth to our child?" Matt smiled as he pressed his lips to her forehead. "Of course, I want to have our son with you. I love the name by the way. It's perfect."

Gabby smiled. "I knew you'd like it because we're naming him after Andy." Matt agreed with Gabby, smiling as he leaned in and kissed his wife softly. "Just make sure that Antonio doesn't call him Andres. He's named after Andy and that's his name: Andrew." Gabby smiled, as she likes the sound of that. "Seems like you're coming around to the idea of us having a baby?" Matt smiled. "Not that I have a choice, but I like the idea of us having a baby. I just pray to god that you survive. Heaven knows that I can only lose one member of my family this year." Gabby was confused. "Hold on, what?" Matt sighed. "My uncle Jake died of COVID two weeks ago." Gabby sighed. "Why didn't you tell me? I would've come to the funeral." Matt laughed. "When you were in Puerto Rico?" Gabby bit her lip. "Hold on a second, how long have you been in Chicago?" Gabby looked at Matt. "End of June?"

Matt was shocked when he heard Gabby tell him that. She's been in town for two months, and this is the first he's hearing of her being in town. "You've been in town for two months, pregnant with our child…and this is the first I'm hearing that you're here. Oh, that's a topic that we need to talk about. Gabby, you're pregnant with our child. You have an aneurysm. You could've died either of it or COVID. You should've stayed with me, then you could've gotten things ready for the baby…" Taking a breath, Matt didn't want to finish the sentence he was about to say…so, Gabby did it for him. "In case I die." Taking a breath, Matt looked at the woman he loves. "Listen Gabby. I love you and I want you to just take it easy and relax. I need to call Boden and give him an update. Let him know that I'm going on paternity leave." Gabby agreed with her husband. "Can I get a kiss first?" Smiling, Matt placed his hand on her stomach.

After which, he leaned over her and kissed the woman of his dreams softly. "I love you Gabby, forever. And I want you to remember that. We may not have been in this from the start, but we are now. And we're going to make sure that we have a nice life with each other forever. How does that sound? A life with me, you, and Andy." Gabby smiled, as she likes the sound of that. "I love that idea. Now, go call Boden and get yourself some time off. I want my man to be with me." Matt agreed with Gabby as he kissed her softly. After which, he got up and smiled as he grabbed his phone. "Actually, can you call him in here? I want to say hi to Boden at least one last time." Matt sighed. "Can we just agree that you're going to survive? I don't know if I can hear anything other than that." Gabby agreed with her husband, as she can do that for him: speak to him in a way that shows she's going to survive.

After all, that's what she feels is going to happen: she's going to survive so that she can have a nice life with her husband and their son. But first, they have to talk to Chief Boden. "Sit back down, put the phone on speaker and take it easy. I want to speak to him and just relax with you. Maybe we can even get him to get Severide to bring you some sweats so that you can relax in something more comfortable." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he likes that idea. "I love that idea. Now, let's call Boden so you can say hi…and we can tell him our news, which will allow him to start the paperwork for me to get on paternity leave." Gabby agreed, as that's precisely what she wants: Matt to be on paternity leave, while he holds their family close to him for the rest of his life. "Maybe even more than paternity leave considering the situation out there?" Matt agreed. "One step at a time." Gabby smiled, ready to talk to Chief Boden.
