Chapter 23: Parents' Night
One day at school, the girls were hanging out in the hallway, before class.
"So any ideas what movie we're gonna see?" asked Twilight.
"What about a romantic comedy?" Rarity piped up.
"Forget that, let's see an action movie." Rainbow Dash suggested.
Rarity glared at Rainbow Dash. Sometimes it was hard to believe that the two were friends. They didn't have much in common, Rarity liked fancy, delicate, and classy things while Rainbow Dash liked sports, getting down and dirty, and being rough.
"Well I say we see a good western." Applejack intervened.
"Or maybe a comedy." Pinkie said.
Just then, the bell rang and they all went to their classes.
Classes went on normally, and then an announcement came on over the speakers.
"Attention students." said Principal Celestia.
"This is a reminder that the school will be having it's bi-annual parents' night."
Hearing that made the students start chattered. Some were annoyed, others were terrified, and some didn't look phased at all.
"Oh great." grumbled Rainbow Dash.
In Rarity's classroom, she had just heard the news.
"Oh dear." she groaned.
"I can't wait to show my parents the library." said Twilight.
"I'm sure the teachers will tell my parents what a great student I am." Pinkie hoped.
"This is gonna be a nightmare." groaned Rainbow Dash.
"Why?" asked Fluttershy.
"When my parents come they'll know that I sometimes fall asleep in class. Not to mention they'll probably embarrass me by acting like them."
"I'm facing the same dilemma." Rarity confessed.
The other girls looked at her confused. What would Rarity have to worry about?
"While most of my grades are fine, my parents are just so...country-like. No offense, Applejack."
"Non taken. And ya'll are making a big deal out of nothing." Applejack replied.
"That's easy for you to say, Applejack." Rainbow Dash told her.
"Your grandma works here."
"That's true." replied Fluttershy.
"I guess so. But still, we're good girls and it's just one night."
"Applejack's right. It's just one night." Twilight agreed.
The others also agreed, and went on with their day.
When the day of the parent teacher night came, most of the students were a little on edge. Others tried to kiss up to their teachers, or try to be on the absolute best behavior. Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash and Rarity were still worried about that night.
"Maybe I'll get lucky and my one of my parents will come down with something and they'll have to miss the night." Rarity hoped.
"Well if that happens be sure to have one of them sneeze on my parents." Rainbow Dash told.
Rarity giggled, and they walked on.
That night, all the parents arrived. Twilight happily took her parents to Mr. Cranky Doodle's class, and let them meet him.
"Twilight's a good student. Behaves well in class, and does well with her schoolwork." Mr. Cranky Doodle told them.
"That's wonderful to hear." said Night Light.
"We're very proud of her." Twilight Velvet added.
In Miss Matilda's class, Pinkie brought her parents to meet her.
"Mom and Dad, meet Miss Matilda." Pinkie introduced.
"It's nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Pie. It's a pleasure to have Pinkie in my class." Miss Matilda told.
"That is very good to hear." said Igneous Rock Pie.
"Her cooking skills are very good. Glad to know she's putting them to good use." Cloudy Quartz added.
Things were going fine with Applejack and Granny Smith, since Granny worked there, she pretty much knew everything about Applejack's classes, teachers, and school performance.
"Good job, Applajack. I knew your teachers would have nothing but good things to say about you." Granny Smith said.
"Aw shucks, thanks, Granny." Applejack replied.
"Now, I have to meet with Apple Bloom and Big Mac's teachers. I'll catch up with you later."
"Okay, Granny."
And she left. Applejack turned around, and saw Fluttershy coming out of a classroom with her parents.
"We're very proud of you, Fluttershy." said Mr. Shy.
"We knew that your teachers would have nothing but good things to say about you." Mrs. Shy added.
"Thanks, Mom and Dad." Fluttershy replied.
"Now we have to go meet with Zephyr's teachers. Hopefully his report will be better this time." hoped Mr. Shy.
And they walked off.
"Hey, Fluttershy. How's your night goin'?"
"Hi, Applejack. So far it's fine. My parents are impressed."
"So was Granny Smith. I wonder how the others are doin?"
With Rainbow Dash, she was standing in a classroom, while her parents talked to her teachers.
"Ah that's our girl." said Bow Hotfoot proudly, putting his arm around her.
"She's always been so bright, probably the brightest ever." Windy Whistles added, ruffling her daughter's hair.
Rainbow blushed in embarrassment. She didn't like it when her parents overly doted her like that.
"Excuse me, I have to use the restroom." Rainbow said, and she quickly hurried out of the classroom.
In the girls' room, Rainbow let out a long sigh.
"I hope this night will be over soon."
Just then, the door opened and another girl came in. She was wearing sunglasses and a big hat.
"Oh, hello Rainbow."
"Uh, do I know you?"
The girl took off her hat and sunglasses to reveal Rarity.
"It's me."
"Oh, hey, Rarity. Why are wearing that stuff at night or indoors?"
"I'm using a disguise so no one will connect me to my parents."
"That bad, huh?"
"You would not believe."
After a minute the two left the restroom, and went to find their parents.
Later on, Rarity was with her parents who were meeting Principals Celestia and Luna.
"Hello, I take it you're Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents." Principal Celestia told him.
"You bet we are. Hondo Flanks and Cookie Crumbles at your service." Hondo Flanks introduced, taking her hand and shaking it.
"Oh no." Rarity whispered to herself.
"Your girls are a pleasure to have." Luna informed.
"Why thank you, they get their charms from my side of the family." Cookie Crumbles bragged.
As her parents acted like themselves, Rarity decided to slip away. After taking a few steps, she heard a commotion. She looked, and saw Rainbow Dash looked humiliated, Bow Hotfoot clutching his back, and Windy Whistles was comforting him.
Rainbow also stepped away.
"What happened to your father, Rainbow?" Rarity asked.
"We were meeting with my soccer coach, and Dad tried to demonstrate one of his old signature moves and ended up hurting himself." Rainbow Dash explained.
"Wow."
"Yeah, embarrassing."
"That's nothing, my parents are giving the whole history of our family tree to the principals."
The two then looked at each other, then burst out laughing. While the two were different, they could agree on one thing that they had in common. Both got embarrassed by their families.
That's chapter 23
