Chapter 24: A Flurry Coming Part 1

It was a cold winter day in Canterlot City, and Twilight was out with her brother Shining Armor and her sister-in-law Cadance. The couple was expecting a baby that would be coming soon, and they had let Twilight come baby shopping with them.

Twilight had just picked out a small onesie, and held it up to Cadance large round belly.

"Thanks again for letting me come shopping with you guys." she told her.

"It's no problem, Twilight. We appreciate the help." Cadance replied, putting her hands on her belly.

Shining Armor then came over with armload of boxes.

"Okay, I got bottles, diapers, a car seat, and a high chair." he informed.

"Shining Armor, are you sure you can carry all that?" Twilight asked.

"Don't worry. I got it. Anything else we need?"

"(Giggles), I think that's enough for today." Cadance told him.

They paid for all the items, got in the car and left.

At school, Twilight and her friends were talking in one of their classes.

"So Twilight, any idea when Shining Armor and Cadance are gonna have their baby?" asked Rainbow Dash.

"It's gonna be soon. My mom's hosting a baby shower for them at our house on Saturday. You girls are welcome to come." Twilight invited.

"That sounds nice." said Fluttershy.

"A party? I'm there!" Pinkie squealed.

"I'll come on 'round." Applejack piped up.

"And so will I." Rarity agreed.

Twilight smiled, the shower was already going to be fun, and having her friends there would make it better. When the teacher came in, they stopped talking and went back to work.

On Saturday, Twilight's house was ready for the shower. The living room was filled with pink and blue balloons, streamers, a banner that read "congratulations", and pictures of storks. Twilight was helping her mom, put out food for the guests.

"Okay, we got pigs in a blanket, fruit cups, and we've got a cake." Twilight Velvet said.

"Hey, can I have one of those pigs in a blanket?" asked Spike, as he jumped around.

"Spike..." Twilight told him.

"Come on, Twilight. I'm hungry." he begged.

Twilight sighed, rolled her eyes, and threw him a pig in a blanket.

"Thanks."

And Spike happily ate it. Night Light, who was coming in from the front yard smiled.

"Well I've got the sign put up, and look who's here."

Behind him were, Shining Armor and Cadance.

"Hey, Mom, Dad, Twily, Spike."

"The place looks great. Thanks for throwing this for us." Cadance added.

A while later, the rest of the guests arrived which included Twilight's friends, Principals Celestia and Luna, and some of Cadance and Shining Armor's co-workers.

The baby shower turned out to be a success. Everyone was having a good time, talking, eating the food, and congratulating the couple. Then it was time for presents. The couple received practical gifts like baby toys and diapers.

Other gifts included, baby shoes, clothes, gift cards, and Twilight Velvet and Night Light gave them a crib.

"Thank you everyone. The gifts are wonderful." Cadance told everyone.

"We know the baby will love them." Shining Armor added.

"Hey, look it's snowing." Pinkie informed.

They all looked outside, and saw snow was falling from the sky.

"It's so pretty." observed Cadance.

"I wonder how much snow we'll get this winter." thought Principal Celestia.

"I'm sure it'll be fine." Vice Principal Luna assured.

After the shower was over, the family waved off their guests.

That night, Night Light and Twilight Velvet were watching the news.

"And the forecast call for more snow, and we're looking at a possible blizzard forming." the weather man announced.

"A blizzard?" asked Night Light.

"A blizzard?" came another voice.

The couple looked over, and saw Twilight in her pajamas.

"Twilight, what are you still doing up?" wondered Twilight Velvet.

"I was just getting a drink of water. I wonder if it'll affect school?"

After they all went to sleep, the snow continued to fall. And the next morning, they woke up to a blanket of snow on the ground.

As the days went by, snow kept coming and coming down. Twilight and her friends were having fun playing in it. They had snowball fights, made snowmen, and made snow forts. School even had to be closed a couple of times.

Then eventually the blizzard came. The temperature dropped really low, the wind blew hard, and snow, hail, and rain fell from the sky. The power got knocked out for a couple days, but luckily the citizens were prepared.

They bought food, candles, batteries, logs, and extra blankets. They stayed warm, played games, and waited out the storm. Eventually the power came back, and everyone was overjoyed.

One day, Shining Armor received a call from one of his friends, Spearhead, who lived outside the city. A tree had fallen down in his driveway, and he needed help getting it out of the way. So Shining Armor offered to help out, and Cadance, Twilight, and Spike decided to tag along.

After driving out of town, they arrived at Spearhead's house. Spearhead offered them hot chocolate, and while Twilight and Cadance had some, Shining Armor helped him with the tree while Spike watched.

"Thanks again for helping me out with this, Shining Armor." said Spearhead, as they removed the tree.

"No problem, Spearhead. Always happy to help." Shining Armor replied.

After safety moving the tree out of the driveway, they had a little more hot chocolate and conversation, and then got ready to leave.

"Thanks again." Spearhead called.

"No problem Spearhead. I'll call you later." Shining Armor called back, as he helped Cadance into the car.

Once everyone was buckled up, they were off.

"It was fun running around in the fresh snow." Spike said.

"Yeah, thanks for bringing us along." told Twilight.

"It's fine Twilight." Shining Armor replied.

Things were going smoothly, until the car started to sputter, and then came to a stop.

"What happened?" wondered Cadance.

"Don't worry, this won't take long." Shining Armor assured.

He got out of the car, and popped the hood.

"Hmm, it looks like the engine blew a gasket. We're gonna have to call a tow truck." he informed.

They all pulled out their phones, but there was no signal.

"Oh no, we must be too far out to pick anything up." Twilight.

"This isn't good." replied Spike.

"Don't worry, guys we're gonna be okay." Shining Armor told them.

Suddenly, Cadance felt something in her belly, and clutched it.

"Uh, guys, I think we have another problem." she piped up.
