Now not having any other excuses or ways to delay Aunt Greta's beckones, Jack followed Candance out of the room they had occupied to talk privately and went in search of the matriarchal women of the family.

He found her setting the last of the food on the banquet table and said: "You were looking for me Aunt Greta?"

Greta turned and, seeing Jack, nodded. "I thought you would have come in after the sheep incident earlier but apparently you thought it was better to stay outside instead of helping."

Jack got defensive at the accusation. Being as polite as possible he told her: "I am the Guardian of Fun, it's my job to help kids have joy and fun. I was being helpful in that way by keeping the kids entertained out back instead of underfoot. I by no means want to come off as someone who doesn't want to be of help with preparations, Aunt Greta, but I also will not slack on the Job that has been entrusted to me."

Everyone was silent, even the kitchen clattering had stopped.

Aunt Greta stared at Jack for a bit, her expression not giving anything away. Then she surprised everyone by nodding. "Well said. It's good to see you taking your Job to heart. I will ask next time to receive your assistants instead of assuming, thank you for telling me the reason!"

Jack smiled. "Thank you for understanding. Now, how can I help in here?"

Aunt Greta thanked him, much more chatty now and open, at least to Jack, as the two got the last of the food, and dishes set out for everyone to help themselves. As they worked together Jack noticed for the first time that her eyes seemed to change color depending on how and which direction you were looking at them. And when he went down on the floor to retrieve a second bag of napkins that were stored under the table he accidentally noticed that there was a strange submarine tattoo on her ankle.

He filed both away as the family said grace and began their meal. Sitting down next to Aunt Greta and Uncle Kiy Jack casually started asking about the two of them. They, to his knowledge, had yet to share stories with the family and he was curious about them. Uncle Kiy laughed as Jack's comment about the tattoo made Greta hiccup in her drink.

"You saw that, did you? Well let me tell you, that is only the tip of the iceberg when it came to the things Greta was into when I first met her."

"Kiy!" Aunt Greta whispered.

"Oh, come now. It's not like this family hasn't heard whopper tales from other members. I think Jack is right and it's high time you shared."

Greta took a bite of her turkey leg so forcefully that it was clear she was trying to hide something.

"Fine then I will tell it!

Uncle Kiy got up and moved away from Aunt Greta before she could try and stop him. "Attention everyone, I think this year I'm going to start the official sharing time. I know Jack has already treated the young ones to a few stories so I hope he doesn't mind if I take the spotlight for a while.

Jack gave Uncle Kiy an encouraging smile and had to giggle as Aunt Greta made a move to try and take Kiy's arm, only for the man to start walking around.

(1) She was unusually unusual!

Aunt Greta started to look frantic as she tried to follow her husband and make him stop without much success.

"I had lived here in Burgess for my entire life and things had never been too out of the ordinary in my opinion, at least not until one summer when a new family moved in close to my house. They didn't seem all that exciting so I didn't take much notice at first but then she showed up on my lawn examining my grass one day." When he'd mentioned a 'she' Uncle Kiy had pointed straight at Aunt Greta.

"She introduced herself as Amy, said: 'call me Caroline for short. I just moved in 3 doors down so I wouldn't be the girl next door.' She wasn't warning any shoes and her bare toes were playing with the blades of grass as she exclaimed: 'Hey man did you know somebody left your grass in the yard all night?'"

"Ok that's enough!" Greta tried to stop Kiy from saying any more only for the family to chorus: "Don't stop, what else?! Tell us more!"

"She's unusually unusual, absolutely unpredictable. She's so different and that's what's wonderful." Here, as he spoke in the present tense, he smiled lovingly at Greta and she stopped her frantic attempts to silence him. "She's unusually unusual and that's beautiful to me!"

"Her tattoo is a trident submarine, and she says it symbolizes awesome power hidden deep within our dreams. And once she told me 'we used to be brothers in some past life.'"

Greta was blushing but she didn't look distressed, just a bit embarrassed at her past self being revealed after all the years of hiding it.

"She hides it because some people think she's strange, a different cup of tea, but she just dose it for me!"

Uncle Kiy walked over to Aunt Greta and gave her a hug. Then the two shared a quick kiss.

Seeing that she had calmed down and may be open to questions, many inquiries were made.

"Why do you act so stick around us if you have such a fun side?"

"What is it like to have such unique thoughts?"

"Do you still think that way, or did you change over time?"

"When did you start to hide your unusual personality, and why?"

"Can you show us some of the other you more?"

"Would you change anything in your past if you could?"

"Can you tell us more about your younger days?"

Greta shied and held up her hand. "You sure stated something, you know that?" She commented to her husband.

Kiy only smiled and kissed her again.
