Chapter 27

The calm before the storm.

The end of the year has come fast. Terminale students prepare for their final exams. The teachers correct the training exercises with all their might. Mike had been kicked out of high school for the rest of the year and continued homeschooling. Even though I knew from the status window that he had really wanted to kill me, he had been drinking and his parents blamed it all on alcohol. The school had been held responsible for not supervising the punch and it was Mike's word against mine. So I decided not to file a complaint, but rather to file a handrail, in case he tried something against me.

Edward is preparing our summer trip to Asia, the lucky guy is officially of age. I had to ask my parents for permission to leave the territory. My mother was ecstatic and told me to bring her lots of photos of Mount Fuji. Charlie didn't make a problem either. He just asked Edward to remember his promise. A promise that Edward never wanted to confess to me, even under the torture of a blowjob that was both slow and "painfully pleasurable" in the words of my stubborn companion. That said, since I didn't admit to him that I had seen through his eyes during his conversation with my father, I considered us even.

Alice and I were working out our plan to get Edward back on track as soon as he broke down in September. When I had the opportunity to be alone with her, I had told her about the accident on my birthday and about Edward's decision to leave me. I went so far as to describe to him the pitiful state he would be in after six months. She gasped when she knew he would starve to death. She hadn't seen anything, of course, but since her visions were only based on people's decisions, it wasn't surprising. Edward hadn't decided to leave me like an overprotective idiot yet. Alice, however, trusted my visions and I told her about my new skill.

She would look at a map at a set time pointing out her location with Jasper, as well as Carlisle and Esme. We would thus circumvent the problem of the promise, which Edward will extract from her, not to contact me. The problem lay in Jasper. He would never leave Alice's side and therefore had to be taken into his confidence, but convincing him of it was not easy.

I already knew that Rosalie and Emmett were planning to go to Africa like in the book. The fact that I already knew when they only announced it two days after my warning to Alice, also convinced Jasper of the reality of my prediction. Edward was right, he really liked me, but he didn't want to get involved in our affairs with Edward. His opinion changed when I told him he would go so far as to have the Volturi kill him.

Alice and I have agreed on a hiding place where she will bury a cell phone with a prepaid card in case Edward decides to steal from me, in addition to my memories, the phone Alice gave a few months ago, some cash and an emergency email address. She had also left me belongings of each family member in a box under her bed so that I could use my prescience and see through their eyes, if needed. She had also insisted on leaving me a credit card which I had hidden deep in my drawer of panties, the only part of the closet that Edward intentionally bypassed. One would have thought that after all his hours discovering sexuality together, he would have relaxed a little from that point of view, but no… It was both cute and infuriating. But OK !

Our trip went very well. I took advantage with delight of these moments of calm and serenity before the back-to-school storm. I also made sure to make a copy of the photos of the two of us and email them to me. Well, yes… He may be an overprotective idiot, but I'm still going to miss him damn well. I want to keep his picture to curse him in case of depression. I even send my mom a picture of us at prom. I had also scheduled a visit to my mother while Edward was away.

When we return to Forks at the end of August, Edward drives me a few hundred yards from the villa carrying me. I still like the speed of his running as much and we have gotten used to going out in the forest. Fun fact, he really made me experience the sensation of jumping off a cliff, obviously, curled up tightly in his arms in complete safety. The combination of adrenaline and the thrill of danger has become almost addictive. I am seriously considering taking up extreme sports to compensate during my forced withdrawal.

This time however, our forest trip ends quickly in front of a small cabin that I had never seen. Edward motions me forward to look. The hut is both simple and adorable. It is made of stained wood, and only the decorative elements are painted. Flowerbeds are placed on either side of the doorway, and a small doorbell is glued to the side. I squint to read the names on the tag and read Bella and Edward Cullen. I jerk my head around and find him a step behind me, all smiles. He takes my hand and says:

"I couldn't put your real name in case someone stumbles across that cabin." But I'm talking to you, Éowyn. The day you landed in my monochromatic life, you recolored it with the colors of the rainbow… and with fluorescent neons… and glitter too…"

I chuckle.

"I had a lot of convictions and very little expectation for the future. Everything I imagined was nothing compared to what you showed me through your eyes. I don't know how long we'll be able to spend together, but as you've already told me, all I have to do is make you mine, because I can't imagine my future without you. »

He puts his hand in his pocket, drops to one knee, and I tremble in anticipation as he opens the box and I see his mother's ring.

"Will you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?"

Yes I tell him immediately with a big smile. »

He slips the ring on my ring finger, kisses it and gets up. I hug her then and kiss her passionately. I'm always on my little cloud when I come home. I think back to the hours that followed his marriage proposal.

We rocked the bed with an epic petting session. There are in fact only two rooms in the cabin, a living room whose sofa converts into a bed with a kitchen area and a bathroom with a dry toilet and a sink supplied by a water bottle. Edward remembered that I had known how to appreciate the rustic comfort of his childhood home. The fireplace sat proudly in front of the door and I totally imagined myself spending hours in winter reading books while warming myself at its hearth.

I could hardly believe that he was going to tear everything to pieces in a few weeks. I had the feeling that I was still going to screw up in the process. In the meantime, I laughed a lot when I noticed that chains had been incorporated into a wall. I raised an eyebrow and Edward's embarrassed smile told me that he hadn't forgotten anything about our little conversation in his room and that he was seriously considering chaining each other up during our antics. Finally, maybe I shouldn't have refused Emmett's whipping, he might have appreciated… It's funny, I would have seen him more in the skin of the dominant, rather than that of the submissive, but hey , everyone has their own tastes after all. I'm open to all the options he wants to explore, since I'm sure he won't hurt me.

A few weeks later, I put this certainty in the closet and the disappointment went out to do the samba on the grave of our future together...

The year had started well. I had obtained an almost tailor-made schedule thanks to Jasper and his skills as a hacker. He had also been quite impressed with my coding skills and we had spent long hours discussing the technology of the future. He was almost as eager as I was for smartphones and 5G to become more democratic.

Mike was required not to come more than 5m from me and was not in any of my classes unlike Alice and Jessica who shared them all. Unfortunately, Edward spoke Spanish and not French, but we could meet every day at the lunch break.

Jessica and Alice had a strange relationship between complicity and rivalry. I sometimes had my buttocks resting between two chairs wanting to give reason to both. However, they had found common ground on the issue of shopping. I usually ended up in tow behind them, shuffling from store to store, following them, watching them chatter away about the latest fashions at a pace as frantic as the sound of their high heels on the mall tiles. Each session left me exhausted and Edward was happy to cuddle me when I got back.

Another big change, Charlie was now aware of my visions. He took the news much more calmly than I would have originally imagined. When I made the remark to him, he then listed all the inconsistencies he had noticed in my attitude. I was actually impressed, he probably would have guessed without my admission. He narrowed his eyes, slightly offended, when I exclaimed with too much surprise for his taste, that he was still a good cop!

Charlie had also reacted well when I announced my engagement. He just told me he knew it was coming soon, when I told him about my visions. He clearly remembered our conversation about marriage at eighteen. That didn't stop him from placing a stake carved by himself on the living room table when Edward came to ask for my hand. That's what the latter confessed to me, when I said that I was wrong to worry about his reaction.

I had also visited the pack. Rachel and Paul were officially together and she had decided to work from home in order to stay by his side while he finished his studies. The two couples lived in Sam and Emily's house while waiting for the younger couple to have their home. The only lingering problem at the Push was the prolonged absence of Jacob, who still hadn't reappeared. Sam had however told me that he was still alive and well and that he was gradually approaching the Push. His mind was not yet open to discussion. He was content to follow his animal instinct.

I knew something about it, because I saw him regularly in my dreams, hunting, cleaning himself, running aimlessly in the forest. Shortly before my birthday, I saw him swimming near another wolf, carrying a human with long brown hair. I was frustrated by how little detail I got in my visions, unlike Alice who always had a multitude of clues. However, I was getting better and better at my gifts and I had managed to successfully see through Alice's eyes while concentrating without needing an object of her own.

On the night of September 12 to 13, I had trouble getting to sleep. Our plan to Alice and I was ready. I had written a letter to Jasper explaining that the accident was inevitable and that I didn't blame him. I had also written a letter to Alice telling her where to find information about her family, since James had not had the opportunity to give her any. I had left a dream catcher for Esme, in a box to which I had attached a little thank you note for her kindness, I also wrote to her that I did not blame them and that it was only a goodbye . I wrote on the box not to open it until September sixteenth, when I knew they would be gone. I had verified by eliciting a vision that Esme would open it then.
