Eddie had a lot on his mind.
But today, his mind kept floating back to the super powered girl.
She'd visited him in the hospital once, with a small smile and some Eggos.
"Yo Eddie!" Robin came in twirling keys around her finger. "Ready to go?"
Eddie smirked. "Steve's letting you drive?"
"Robin!" Steve called. "Do you have my keys?"
Steve bounded up the stairs of Eddie's newly renovated trailer. When he saw the keys in Robin's hand, he ran his hand down his face and sighed.
"Robin, when I said that you were getting better during lessons, you were driving in an abandoned parking lot with no one around." Steve explained. "Not in the street. With people."
Robin huffed.
Eddie snorted.
Steve ripped his keys from Robin's hand.
"Ready to go, man?" Steve turned towards Eddie.
Eddie nodded. "Just let me grab my jacket."
They all climbed into the car with Steve behind the wheel.
"So, who's going to be there again?" Eddie asked.
"Uh all the kids and Johnathan and Nancy." Robin told him.
"All the kids." Eddie muttered. "Does that mean the super girl will be there?"
"El? Yeah, she'll be there." Steve replied, glancing at him through the rearview mirror. "Why?"
"Guess I just wanted to find out more about her." Eddie said.
"Well, from what I can tell, she's really sweet. She's just been through a lot of crap." Robin responded.
"Yeah, from what Dustin and the others have told me, El is nice and can be funny but you do not want to cross her. She is very protective of her friends." Steve stated.
Eddie nodded but realized that he had another question.
"You're not close with her?" he asked.
Steve and Robin stole a glance at each other.
"Not really, no." Robin said.
"Yeah, I mean, we never really got to know her. With her having to go back to hiding after November 1984 and then her moving after the Battle of Starcourt we just never had the time to get to each other. We always say hi when she comes into the store and when we see her." Steve told him.
Eddie nodded.
They soon pulled up to the Wheelers house, where they were greeted by Nancy.
"Come on in guys." Nancy said.
The Party were meeting up, not to play DND, but to just hang out.
The three older teens greeted everyone, then flopped onto some of the many comfortable places in the basement.
All of them talked for a while, laughing and eating a bunch of junk food. They were all acting like normal teenagers.
It was nice.
Soon, the kids got bored of talking and wanted to play a game. They decided on a version of Operation, where there were two boards and two teams.
El grimaced when they decided, and then quietly told everyone she was going upstairs to grab some more snacks.
"Does she look upset to you?" Steve asked Eddie and Robin.
Robin got a glance of El's face before she went upstairs. "Yeah, yeah she does."
Without a word, the three of them got up to go upstairs and check on El. Nobody noticed, all too focused on Dustin and Erica battling off.
In the kitchen, they saw El looking at the snacks with an upset stare.
"El?" Steve asked.
El jumped and sent a bag of pretzels flying into Steve's chest. Steve let it fall to his feet.
El turned with a small stream of blood falling from her nose and a sheepish look.
"Sorry." she whispered.
Steve shrugged and told her, "It's fine, I've had worse thrown at me."
"So, whatcha doing, El?" Robin asked, picking up the pretzels and putting them back onto the table.
"Grabbing more snacks." El told them.
Eddie nodded and walked over to the table. Everyone always brought a lot of snacks from their houses and there always was too much food in the end, but eh. Whatever.
Eddie realized what he was looking for would be in the freezer, so he walked over and opened it.
"Want some Eggos, El?" Eddie asked.
El lit up and she nodded. Robin and Steve asked for some as well.
Eddie set to work making the Eggos as Steve and Robin cleared off part of the table and sat down. El hesitated but ended up sitting down.
"So, what's the cabin looking like?" Robin asked, anxious not to make it awkward.
"Pretty nice. Hopper's letting me redecorate my room and Max has been helping with it. So, it's been fun." El answered.
Robin and Steve nodded.
"Have you ever played Operation, El?" Steve asked.
El nodded, eyes lighting up when she saw Eddie coming over with the Eggos.
"I've always sucked at that game." Robin sighed, taking a bite of her Eggo.
"I have no doubt in that." Steve joked.
"Yeah, that's freaking hard. To have a steady enough of hand to do that stuff." Eddie shuddered. "Yeah, not for me."
"I hate the sounds it makes." El told them with a frown.
"Is that why you didn't want to play?" Robin plain out stated, earning a kick under the table.
El shrugged. "Kind of. It's just not my favorite game. Though it is fun to see Dustin get so upset over it."
As if on cue, there was a shout downstairs. "Oh, come on! She cheated!"
Everyone chuckled.
"Yeah, that's always fun to do." Eddie said. "But what's the other reason you don't want to play?"
"I wanted," El started. "I wanted to learn a new game. But it always takes half the night for me to learn, and I didn't want to do that to everyone."
"What game did you want to learn?" Steve asked.
"Uhm," El said, trying to recall what it was called out. "I think it was Sorry?"
The three older teens smiled at the familiar name.
"You know El, I'm pretty good at explaining things, do you want to try to learn it? We can teach you." Eddie suggested.
Steve and Robin nodded in agreement.
"Really?" El asked. "Okay! That'll be fun!"
Steve and Robin smiled at each other, both glad that they got this chance to get to know the younger girl.
"I'll go grab the game; we can probably play in the living room." Eddie told them, getting up.
All of them gathered around the coffee table, with El and Robin on the couch and Eddie and Steve on the floor.
"Okay, here's how we play El." Eddie started.
The four of them played well into the night.
