A/N: Time of writing, 11:50 PM of my timezone. Well that's concerning. So guys? Been awhile. Besides by busy life the other cause of my schedule problems is that I tried crossposting this fic at Wattpad and AO3, it was a hassle to get the formatting right.
Now to the reviews!:
Guest: huh, that's good but I don't know jackshit about Tsukihime.
Quathis: It runs in the family.
EnkiduKingu: Sakura, huh. Well I might need to think about that more, that needs a lot of workarounds. But I'll put it on the shelf, just in case I need it, thanks.
Toa Solaric: You are right, that's why he was angry about Tohsaka. About Muramasa… Decisions, decisions.
Star Dragon: He can't go back, and he doesn't want to go back.
JLJLJLJLJL: Yeah… I'll have to do some brainstorming about the extended relatives.
Arturia LeFay: Lmao
Bucio: Well, they ARE OCs, I hope that's alright. You were right about him not returning to Chaldea though.
Rin and her father sat on one of the tables on the restaurant, it was dusk now. The employees and the costumers had gone home earlier, EMIYA asked the Irisviel to set up a bounded field for them, so the father and daughter duo could have a talk by themselves.
They had been talking for a while now.
"Well- that's it. Their master sent them to find me and take me back to Chaldea… which I am going to refuse to of course. I'm the original and the one they know is a servant." Emiya relayed to his daughter. Some may call him overprotective but getting involved in anything Chaldea means involving his daughter as well.
"Dad…" Rin faced her father in sadness, if what Tohsaka-san said about him were true, then he is rejecting his very nature. It's not like she agrees with him leaving either. Protecting the world might sound like an honor to anyone, but she hated even the mention of it because of her father, she always saw the sadness behind the smiles- but just to reject the offer to save more lives. "…Are you sure about this?"
"Yeah, I'm done… I have no obligation to do it." He spoke wearing his usual stoic expression. "Besides, knowing Chaldea, they have better people for the job. Now, let me introduce them to you." EMIYA told his daughter.
"Yeah, I guess." Rin answered, albeit with subtle reluctance.
The bounded field went down a few moments later, the Caster-Assassin pair entered the dining room after EMIYA permitted them too.
"You done?" Assassin asked, lighting up a cigarette.
"Uhuh, now… This old man here." He pointed at Kiritsugu. "Is Kiritsugu Emiya, an alternate version of your grandfather, Class: Assassin."
Rin nodded along. Barely registering anything, the thought of multiverse theory being real is really mind boggling for her, well- there's Tohsaka but that's a bit different. "What should I-?"
Kirutsugu shook his head. "No, no- there's no need, call me Assassin or Kiritsugu. I'm not your real grandfather anyway." He said, trying to stop the girl.
"I'll… just call you Grandpa then, for convenience." Said girl answered, with the tanned skin and white hair, despite not having the same face everyone would mistake this man and her father as related.
Kiritsugu didn't answer and just nodded, before going outside and leaning into a tree, looking at the cars passing by.
Irisviel looked at his turned back, a smidge of disappointment in her face. She turned her gaze to the young lady in front of the archer. "So~ Rin-chan~? My name is Irisviel von Einzbern! You might be too old for my desired granbabies but you can call me Grandma! And- Oh! My class is Caster, so that means Kiri is weak against me." She cheerfully relayed the information, much to the annoyance of Rin's father.
"Also, Shirou-kun~ would you please go to your father dear." She told the archer.
The man understood what she meant, she wants to be alone with Rin. The man sighed and walked away to follow the assassin.
Meanwhile- "Einz…bern?" Rin thought about the name, it was the same family as what Tohsaka said to her, one of the founders of the Holy Grail War… that woman, has the same name as Illyasviel, master of Berserker from the conflict that her father had participated in his younger years, her father's beloved sister.
"By your reaction, I already know what you are thinking. No, I did not actually give birth to the girl named Illyasviel, the other versions of me did as well as marrying Kiri over there." She nudged her head to the man outside the restaurant. "Well, when I arrived at Chaldea, I found these people yearning for a family, even if they don't know it." She smiles brightly. "As the vessel of the grail, it is my duty to fulfill those wishes, false as the results may be."
Rin noticed the solemnity in her smile, she doesn't really know much about her father's convoluted family history. Only that it involves magic and lots of murder as the bare minimum that her father told her.
I can only teach you about the Grail War and some select things, everything else would be taught by Emiya-kun. It's not my place to reveal everything.
She recalled the words of her (Self-proclaimed) teacher. Rin Tohsaka was a weird person, added by the fact that her father actually named her after the woman. So she waited for EMIYA to tell her, he really just revealed to her the bare minimum, which fortunately includes his very nature.
"So… that's why you treat dad like your son?" Those are the only words that she could muster.
Iri nods. "Yep, grumpy as he is, I actually care about him a lot. When I saw what he has built over the years, I was happy, he was… more relaxed than ever, even his servant version in Chaldea was even more on edge than him… Kiri, he cares too, they were comrades."
"Counter Guardians right?" Rin chimed.
"Yeah, knowing that Shirou retired made him a little happy. Even though he thinks himself unworthy of it."
Rin looked down in sadness, of course even her grandfather doesn't have a happy life. No one in this family seems to have anything uncomplicated. 'I'm declaring it, I'm the most normal of the bunch.' She told herself.
"Oh come on, what is wrong with me!? I just bought down the mood!" Irisviel suddenly berated herself. "Now, to make amends, why don't we go out, eh? We passed through a mall nearby!"
"Uhh, Cast- Grandma? It's already dark outside." The young woman said.
Irisviel turned her head to the glass window of Copenhagen. The street lamps were on, the street was still busy as cars pass by. "Awww, that sucks." Her shoulders drooped. "Oh well, maybe we could do it tomorrow after your school, you up for it?"
Rin cupped her chin and thought of her schedule tomorrow. She can't hang out with Mimi cuz' she going with her third boyfriend this month. Yeah, she's not gonna elaborate on that… her nerdy friend Kusa plans to hole up in the internet café as she was told. So yeah, she's free tomorrow. "Well, I guess."
"Yay! Now let's just tell your father, they're probably done by now."
Rin chuckles and nods. This might be a little fun, she thought.
(A Few Minutes Ago, EMIYA and Assassin's Perspective)
EMIYA stepped out of the restaurant and stood beside his fellow guardian. The latter waving cigarette at him. "You want some?" He offered.
"No, I don't smoke."
Kiritsugu chuckles. "For someone with no sense of self-preservation you sure are very concerned about your health." The assassin proceeded to put the cigarette back to his pocket.
"I try my best." EMIYA replied.
"So, how's Caster back there?" Kiri asked with a neutral tone.
"She's talking to Rin, probably something I don't wanna deal with." The archer shrugs his shoulders, making a sarcastic expression.
"Hm, but you'll deal with it anyway, won't you?"
"Heh, it's not like I have a choice." EMIYA chuckles.
Kiritsugu decided to sit at a nearby bench when the tree that he leaned in became less comfortable. He invited his former comrade to sit. To which the archer complied so.
"You dote so much on her, I could tell how much you love her." The assassin lit up another cigarette, he stared at the passing cars and the light of the streetlamps.
EMIYA notices the sudden silence, it was awkward to say the least. Well, he was having a conversation with one of Chaldea's least talkative servants, it was bound to be awkward. "Well, she is my only remaining family in this world after all."
The man beside him raised a brow. "You know you could go back, right? Illyasviel misses her onii-chan very much, the kid had me worried for awhile."
EMIYA shook his head with a smile. "She's from that world of magical girls, she can take care of herself."
"You say that but you're actually worried sick." Kiri rebutted.
EMIYA's brow twitched in irritation, who does this guy think he is? "You know, for someone claiming to be not my father, you seem to know me very well."
"I try my best." The assassin shrugged the same way EMIYA did a few moments ago.
"Heh."
Silence came about again, the few seconds of awkward twitching and nudging really made the two uncomfortable.
EMIYA adjusted his sitting position as he started speaking. "You know… You should try-!"
Brrriiiing*
The bell of the front door suddenly chimed as it was opened quickly. Out of it was Irisviel smiling. "Shirou~ Kiri~ Rin-chan and I made arrangements for a shopping trip at the mall tomorrow. Make sure to drive for us~"
The tanned pair chuckled at the woman's antics. "Yes, Ma'am/Ok." They answered simultaneously.
(A Day Later)
Orange lights cover the sky, signaling that it was afternoon. Classes has ended for the day. Rin was waiting with her friend Mimi outside the school gate.
"Mimi, are you sure Kazuchi-san would come?" Rin asked her friend.
The gyaru shrugged. "If he doesn't, it's his loss." She spoke nonchalantly about her current boyfriend.
"You're quite the piece of work, are you?" The black-haired girl quipped.
"That's my charm~" Mimi said with a peace sign.
Moments later, a car stopped by in front of the two. The car windows lowered themselves as the visage of Shirou Emiya became clearer. "Oi Rin, let's go-"
He was interrupted by a white figure that covered his lite of sight. "Heya, Rin-chan~! C'mon let's go!" It was Irisviel popping out of the backseat.
"GRANDMA!?" Rin shouted suddenly out of shock.
"Yep, it's me! Granny Iri~ Bestest grandma of all!" She yelled in excitement.
Mimi just stared at the chaos that was happening. "Emi-chan? Isn't she too young to be your grandmother?" The poor girl asks, terribly confused.
Rin notices her friend's woes. "Ah- sorry! This is my paternal grandmother from Germany, Irisviel!" She turned to the caster. "Grandma, this is Mimi, my friend." She told the homunculus, Mimi waved a shy hello from behind Rin. "As for why she's like that? Don't worry about it, it's a long story."
"Oya? You're a friend of Rin's? Thank you for hanging out with her, you look so cute!" Irisviel spoke to Mimi with smile.
Mimi blushed like a tomato about to explode, due to her lifestyle she doesn't get flustered too easily, but Irisviel's sheer beauty broke her wall.
"Oh yeah, Mimi, I gotta go. Kazuchi-san's probably gonna be here soon!" Rin hurried inside the car and waved goodbye.
Mimi did the same. As soon as they left, the gyaru thought to herself. "Paternal Grandmother? Are they perhaps- vampires?" She thought, noting EMIYA and Irisviel's youthful appearance. Good lord she's gonna be jealous if Rin's the same.
