The ride to Hopper's house was eerily quiet.
"What now?" April finally asked.
Hopper sighed. "Now, we wait."
The truck pulled up to a meadow in the middle of the woods.
"Are we camping?" April asked, sarcasm dripping from her words.
"Just come on." Hopper grumbled.
April followed Hopper into the woods.
What was happening?
They stopped about 15 minutes in, walking up to a cabin.
"What is this?"
"Your new home." Hopper told her.
The two of them cleared up the old cabin, making it a comfortable safe house.
It got even more interesting two months in, when Hopper brought back the super powered girl that apparently got her sucked into this.
They told her the whole story, and why they thought it had to due with her traveling backwards in time.
April didn't blame Eleven, she actually liked the girl.
It took a while, but El warmed up to April eventually, since they both were stuck in the cabin.
They became close, like sisters.
The year was fun, hanging out in the cabin, with April learning how to live in the 80s and El learning how to, well live.
But, come November, things changed.
El found out she had family.
She convinced April to go with her to visit her mom and aunt after her horrible fight with Hopper.
April hated seeing El's mom in the state she was. It was terrible hearing her story.
Then, El remembered Eight, or Kali, and figured out she was in Chicago.
"El! You can't go to Chicago!" April yelled across the walk way.
"I'm not going to Chicago. We're going to Chicago." El stated.
"We can't do that!" April hissed, even though it just the two of them in the woods.
El stopped and face April. "Listen April. You don't have to do this, but I'm going to. You can join me or go back."
April hesitated.
"Oh, fine." April started walking. "When's the next bus leaving?"
El smiled.
They made it to Chicago.
Thank goodness.
April had been clinging to the arm seat the entire time.
She'd never really traveled out of Indiana, except that one time they had to go to Iowa for her great aunt's funeral.
The two of them walked through the busy streets, bumping into people, El mumbling 'mouth breather' every few times.
They finally reached the dingy warehouse and met Kali.
April didn't like Kali.
She was glad El met her, but she was a bad influence.
El had talked about her friends she'd met last year and April really liked them. She'd never met them, but they reminded her of her own friends.
Kali had been trying to convince El not to go back. April thought she should definitely go back.
But no, El had to go with the gang and find the guy that did something to the two sisters a while back.
April stayed back, not wanting to join the hooligans.
But then, El was running into the warehouse, shouting at April that they had to go.
So, April followed Emo El to the bus station.
They were going home.
April's life was just getting stranger.
The two arrived at the Byers house, just in time to stop some demo dogs.
They walked in, April recognizing some of the faces from El's description and Hopper looked relieved to see them.
So did Mike, April noticed.
Ah, so did Mike.
Cute.
April noticed who she thought to be Lucas and Dustin but she didn't see Will.
Though she saw a red head.
She looked familiar.
Huh.
April couldn't think anymore of it, the Party was making a plan.
The group interrogated Will, finding many stranger things.
They had to close the gate, a task given to El.
April thought she would be left behind, but Hopper claimed he thought she had something to do with the gaping gate.
So, here April was, riding to a lab with a gate to another dimension in it.
Could things get stranger?
When they got there, she was handed a blow torch, told to aim and fire it at any creature coming at her.
They traveled through the long halls, finally finding the gate.
Soon, April was hanging on a sketchy elevator, where El was floating in the air closing the gate.
El collapsed, where Hopper scooped her up.
"Let's go."
The three of them arrived at the Byers.
Hopper carried El into the house, where Mike was asking half a hundred questions on what happened.
Again, cute.
With El gone, April didn't have much to do except stand there.
"Hey." one of the kids, Dustin, she believed, approached her.
She gave a small smile. "Hi."
"So, first time with all of this?" he asked.
"Sort of." April answered.
Lucas came over at that point.
"Hi, I'm Lucas." he greeted.
"April."
"Guys, Steve still doesn't- oh hi." the redhead came out of the living room.
April nodded in greeting. "Who's Steve?" she asked.
Max motioned for April to follow her into the living room.
April entered and gasped.
Their was a guy, maybe between 18 and 20, laying on the couch blood covering his face.
"That doesn't look so hot." April grimaced.
"He got beat up by Max's brother." Dustin told her, then proceeded to get elbowed by the redhead.
"Wait, brother? Max?" April asked. "What's your last name?"
"Mayfield." Max answered hesitantly.
"And yours?" April turned to Lucas.
"Sinclair. Why?"
Holy crap.
These were her parents.
Her age.
Fighting monsters.
This was getting really stranger.
